Certainly not Coverdale's best work, but worth looking into if you are a Whitesnake fan. Good AOR songwriting with 'Rock 'N Roll Women' as the stand-out. 'Help Me Through the Day' is a great ballad. The production is pre-'80's arena sound, but you can get a sense of what was to come from this 1979 release. Marsden and Moody's guitar work is decent, but not as hot and nasty as we've come to expect from Coverdale's other side-men such as Vai and Vandenberg.

This is one of the best album covers I have ever seen, if not the best I would buy this album just for the cover alone.

DUDE (RichieRocker)! What the hell are you talkin' about?! It's a picture of a chick doing it with a snake!!..................... Richie, you don't live on a farm, do you???????

From: RichieRocker Date: August 16, 2002 at 23:38
No Jason I dont live on a farm LOL. Actually I live in a very ritzy part of Massachussetts. I just thought the album cover was creative and cool thats all.

From: RichieRocker Date: August 16, 2002 at 23:45
DUDE (Jason)FAQ, Your a knowledgable guy when it comes too tunes, especially ACDC. But man I would rather read a good review from you than always reading a wise comment or something around those lines. I read everybodys new comments when posted and I see a lot of things that you write which are great and things I never knew before about certain bands. But bro, you throw your 2 cents in way too much! just keep the good reviews coming. This is just constructive critisism, dont take it personally!!

Just havin' a good time. No harm, right?

From: RichieRocker Date: August 17, 2002 at 11:59
No harm Bro! Keep rockin.

From: TIM Date: August 17, 2002 at 12:41
I like the cover too RichieRocker. The music sucks overall though. Does anyone know who he model is? I don't know if David knew Tawny at that point.

GREAT GREAT GREAT....GREAT

From: anderson Date: November 11, 2002 at 17:51
Really all albums before 90´s years are really hard rock and rithym´n´blues, where coverdale shows your power in vocals

From: darian Date: January 22, 2003 at 2:45
Gotta love the music and of course gotta love the album cover. I thought that Whitesnake was better in the 1970's-early 80's before they became totally big. Too bad that this album is very hard to find.

From: Gar Date: February 18, 2003 at 22:29
The only songs I rally liked on this were 'Long Way From Home' and the title track. The rest is listenable, but not all that great. The guy who did the cover art is the same guy who did the cover of Uriah Heep's FALLEN ANGEL album. Another great album cover.

From: lover of krel Date: May 27, 2003 at 3:57
the girl is not doing it with the snake because a snake doesn't have a penisLoL. The cover is pretty lame.

From: Gar Date: May 29, 2003 at 1:57
Yeah, but the snake is supposed to REPRESENT a giant penis. He's a 'trouser snake'!

From: Metal T Date: June 2, 2004 at 19:20
I absolutely love this cover!-----Does that mean im a pervert ?? Judging by the cover-art Coverdale' should've named this album 'Ride The Snake'. Sorry David but the music on this one is lousy .

From: Uusiolli Date: August 5, 2004 at 18:20
Something started to happen in a Whitesnake-camp. Suddenly they started to make better songs. They started to show their real talent. Not the best Whitesnake-record, but promising when it came.

From: Propane Date: December 1, 2004 at 21:07
This was an excellent showing. Walkling in the shadow of the blues has always been a powerful song, love hunter as well. These guys were an awesome line-up. No frills, just hard drivin' r&r. This is the essential disc to have.

From: Remastered Reason Date: January 19, 2006 at 0:45
A few promising tracks are 'Walking in the Shadow of the Blues' & 'Lovehunter'. The rest are an extension of the last album which shows a strong conviction in the boogie rock path they had chosen or a lack of creativity. Either way, Whitesnake still had some venom in their bite.

From: hair metal again Date: June 16, 2011 at 14:57
very good release by WHITESNAKE ,still in the bluesy side of hard rock and yet not polished enuff.i really liked it though cause there are many remarkable songs and the lyrics are once again sooooo hard rockin.highlights are "help me thro the day","walking in the shadow of the blues ' and " lovehunter".every release of the snake is essential
