Good stuff on this one! Nice southern-style rock with great melody. 'On The Line' was the single from this release, and a very catchy, dynamite song.

They kinda got lumped in with the hair bands, but Tangier were good bluesy rock. Check out 'Ripcord', the opening track!

Love this album, Afriend of mine had it and gave me a copy,know one has heard of them in scotland uk. then i got on line and wanted more, shame only 2 albums. Never heard any of 'stranded'

If you're a fan of Bad Comapny, Tesla, Whitesnake, Great White or any other blues-based rock you'll pull a Homer Simpson-like drool over this album. The vocalist is PERFECT for this type of music here. Has a HUHGE '89' vibe to it and by that I'm not saying it sounds dated I'm saying it's a good time-capsule album for that year in rock. I remember these guys being played a TON, ecspecially 'On The Line' , on the radio at the time and there was quite a bit of hype on these guys. Cd's worth it.

forget the hair band vibe, this is Blues based hard rock at it's best with one of the most underrated vocalists ever, should of been a major band but somehow was lost in the music of the late 80's, wonderful music

Picked this up for a buck and while i don't feel ripped off, i don't really think i got much of a bargain either. Reminds me of 'Holy Water' era Bad Company and Whitesnake. Two bands i never cared for much either. Everything seems well played just very tired sounding.

Boring third-rate Bad Company blues rock with some hair metal influence. 'On The Line' was a good single, but the rest puts me to sleep. 2/10

This is a boring CD with the exception of one standout track - On The Line - which in my opinion is their best song out of the two CD's they released.

Great blues based hard rock. This was an excellent record, too bad they changed singers and sound for their 2nd one.

LISTEN UP!!!!!! One of the best!!!! southern rock?? not!!!! This is a great hard rock with a blues touch with no doubt the best vocalist!!!!! Watching the band live in the 80's each week at a local club was a blast. To me, Bill Matson is the best vocalist and why he never made it is a big ?????? He is in the same league with Paul Rodgers, Lou Gramm, and David Coverdale. Each and every song is a gem. Find this one!!!!

pulled this one out again, how the singer is not huge is beyond me, just the best, u must hear this one. Production could be better but the vocals are amazing!!!

Hey!!! that's nice everybody! since everybody hear knows the band but me, why don't you score me a copy of the S\T album that came out in 1985, just copy it onto a tape or cd for me, and send it on it's merry little way, we will talk about payment the day this happens!!(Ha-Ha-Ha) that's the same day that Bon Jovi or Def Leppard release another GOOD album, NEVER!!!! but if you are up to the challenge, ive been searching since 1988 for a copy, and I will pay for a copy as so.

I couldn't find anything wrong with this per se, in fact I've grown to like it a lot more than when it came out. My only complaint is it's a bit generic and not all that memorable. I pop it on when I'm in the mood for something basic and not challenging. Good background music IMHO when I'm working on the 'puter and the like. Mine is unfortunately on vinyl but it's held up pretty well. Leykis, if you really want a cassette of it, contact me on the message board and I'll try and dig it up for ya.

gotta comment on this one again, I played in the same club with Tangier, BFox and Cinderella for years, Bill, the singer was in a few bands before Tangier and is the best vocalist I ever heard that did not make it, what a great rock voice, shame he was not huge, this is a good album. Tangier did have a debut album called Tangier on Wolfe records and was a bit lighter then this one and less bluesy, unfortunately, it was on a small label and never recorded to cd, may be able tofind it on album som

the debut is not listed cause it was only released on a very limited number, did anyone find this yet, it is self-titled and has the band photo on front. I have the vinyl and really, really great stuff, very aor/rock oriented, Look what you done, Get away, Paradise, some great songs recorded at Wolf records/The Galaxy in New Jersey!!! not sure if I ever saw the cd, if so, I guess it is a copy???

also, the debut featured 5 members and when Four Winds was released, the band replaced 3 members and only kept Doug and Bill, the vocalist and guitarist, so the debut is a much different sounding, pretty much straight aor with a rock edge, fantastic, seek at all costs!!!

Man I loved this one. I'm going to have to dig it out and give another spin. There were a few fillers but tracks like 'Ripcord', 'On the Line', 'Four Winds' and 'Southbound Train' make this bluesy rock band worth it. Plus, it's easy to find this one for a buck or two.

Definitely much better than the second release. There are way more boring stuff out there than this album so if you can find it cheap..it's worth it.

Edgier than his first album and somehow (and here's the debate) better than it!...in my personal case i just love both...their debut sounded more European and this Four Winds sounds more American (that is what i perceived...am i wrong?)..Mr Mattson is just fantastic here (much more agressive)and the music is kinda Whitesnake..."Ripcord","Mississippi"(great chorus and by the way is there something more american than this state???),"On The Line"(the "hit" of the album and a killer song 4 sure),"Four Winds","Southbound Train","Bad Girl" % "Good Lovin'"...quite a round album that easily could be more digestible than their self-titled(but as i said,i like both)as being this more commercial and that's undoubtebly is a help i'll give this a 90/100 (2 points more than their first album)....waiting to buy Stranded then....

I reckon as listeners this one was more about timing than anything, sure FourWinds rode the coat tails of LongColdWinter (and rightly so too considering most bands did in some way or other, grunge acts were as guilty as any band found here too), but looking back Tangier's FourWinds was actually one of the better followups to that Cinderella classic! Ripcord is a huge opener, announcing Tangier's intention straight outta the gates with a borderline metal piece that is hard to beat. The title track is Tangier at their best, that kinda brooding ballad the likes of ComingHome finding a home on many a car stereo back in the day... SouthboundTrain was a cracker as was InTime with its groove & swagger, Mississippi with its wonderful chord progressions is a winner & OnTheLine is another highlight. Mattson was a magnificent vocalist only heard throughout a few years shame too as he was a true talent. These guys deserved far more, Gordon wrote and recorded a true great worthy of yer time 8.5

Tangier played bluesy hard rock, and played it very professionally, but without much flash or fireworks. The singer has a strong, deeper voice (he's not a metal shrieker by any stretch), and the musicianship is undeniable. But the whole affair just has a very safe, vanilla approach. It sounds like what you'd expect from guys named Bill and Doug--it sounds aimed at an older audience than, say, Skid Row. It's telling that "On The Line" went to #7 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart in the summer of '89 while only receiving light MTV play: MTV was for teenagers and young adults, and AOR radio was for people in their 30's and 40's. In a way, they're like Little Caesar minus the histrionic singer and the biker image. This isn't music to guzzle whiskey, grab titties and drive fast to. It's more of a soundtrack to sipping light beer after cutting the grass on Saturday afternoon. Nothing WRONG with it, but it's very bland.

For the record, and just to maybe illustrate my point in a different way, the week of August 12, 1989, the week "On The Line" peaked on the Mainstream Rock charts, it shared the top ten with Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Call, Bad English, Tom Petty, Don Henley, Warrant, Winger, The Who and Trevor Rabin.

excellent hard u s realise ,with a subtle touch of blues and southern rock.i love this record cause it s very easy and nice to listen,in the vein of jagged edge (with a small difference of kind of hard rock)for example.great singer,super songs and great production even if i think that the sound is a little weak.congratulations to doghouse reilly for his brilliant,clear (for a french guy like me)and very complete comment.i m agree with him, this cd is a pleasure to listen.unfortunatelly ,no bonus track on the japan import.

very good release for TANGIER that made some impact with "on the line" but not as expected with the ATCO behind them supporting that release!the main reason that they re not spectacular in what their doing and they didnt have the intention of writing down big hits!the musicianship is fine,the vibe is very strong and it def delights all the serious hard rock fans
