From: TIM (2) Date: October 20, 2005 at 4:12
This is truly a magnificent album. Everything from the great songwriting, to the massive vocal performances & killer musicianship, but especially the astonishing production job - is near perfect. It says melodic metal on the tin, but there is more than enough melody & catchy choruses on offer to attract fans of AOR & MHR too. A more melodic SAVATAGE is the best comparitor I can come up with, & it truly rivals all of their work. "Come Alive" particularly sums up this disc, a HUGE guitar riff...

From: TIM (2) Date: October 20, 2005 at 4:15
...& pounding drums introduce this epic song, with great melodic verses before an anthemic banner-waving chorus with cascading keys really sum up this awesome disc. Massively powerful sounding, but with more melody than your average AOR album. This is quite simply the best album of any genre this year-& possibly for many a year-& is utterly essential for everyone who visits this site. Only the first 2 tracks slightly lack the killer-edge of the other tunes, but otherwise this is awesome. 9.8/10.

TIM (2) comments are spot on. This is one hell of an album and one that surpasses all the build up and hype that has come it's way. Power & melody in equal measure, topped off with truly outstanding material and some of the best choruses I have heard in a long long time. Check out 'Come Alive','Truth Of Our Time', 'My Own Way', 'Where Have The Angels Gone'& 'Forgotten Ones' for proof. Album of the year - You betcha', nothing else so far has come close. Truly Outstanding

From: AOR freaky Date: October 20, 2005 at 13:25
Indeed, I have to agree with the above comments from TIM (2) and Jez. This is melodic hardrock at it's very best, with two outstanding singers ! Great songs and a decent production make this one a must ! And if there is a battle between Lande and Allen !!! Recommended to all rock fans !

From: vandervelde Date: October 23, 2005 at 7:37
This would be a great followup to second album from LAst Tribe( i think these songs were written by M.Karlsson intentionally for this project). Witch Dance is IMO very near to perfection album but The Battle is almost in every aspect...better. This is surely album of the year nothing can beat songs like Come Alive(in 5 best songs of 21century), Silent Rage or Where Have The Angels Gone...truly magnificent...heavy music with AOR melodies...great!!

From: hevi Date: October 24, 2005 at 7:13
I THINK THIS IS THE ALBUM OF THE CENTURY(SO FAR).MAGNIFICIENT SONGS AND GOOD PRODUCTION.I THINK THIS ALBUM WOULD BE EVEN BETTER IF MR ALLEN HAD STAYED AT HOME.MR ALLEN HAS A OK VOICE BUT SO WEAK COMPARE TO MR LANDE.ALL THE CREDITS TO M.KARLSSON,GREAT TUNES.THANK YOU BOYS.9.5/10

From: Geoff Date: October 26, 2005 at 19:32
No prizes for guessing that this is a great album. Whilst I'm not as excited as others and it isn't my fave of 2005, this is excellent and much more melodic than I was expecting. The massive riffs and those huge melodic choruses- what more do you want from music?! 'Wish for a miracle' is sensational and 'Where have all the angels gone' is my other fave, but every song here is a good cracking melodic hard rocker, once you get past the first 2 decent ones. Overall, great piece of melodic hard rock

From: swriter Date: October 30, 2005 at 1:01
thanks to all the comments, just got this one and is this great or what. This is fantastic melodic metal and my fav Jorn disk yet, the songwriting is fabulous and vocals just wonderful, with all that said, the guitar work is just the best, a must have metal release of the year!!!

This kicks ass! I've listened to it three times today having just got it, and each time I like it even more. Fantastic production, hooky choruses, plenty of guitar and melody galore. I haven't listened to it enough to pick favs, but so far "Come Alive" and "Where Have The Angels Gone" are standing out to me. Killer stuff, well worth the price and you can't say that about everything coming out these days....

From: swriter Date: November 4, 2005 at 17:34
absolutely stunning, played over 20 times since it came in, man, what a record, best hard rock/metal release of the year hands down, completely stunning!!!

From: Kip Date: November 19, 2005 at 19:17
Agree with Tim(2) about the album waiting until track 3 to take off, and when it does it soars. Wish For A Miracle is just awesome. One of my favorite songs of the year. Also almost as great to me is Truth of Our Time, it just grabs me frm the very beginning and holds me till the end. Where Have All The Angels Gone is the last great tune here for me. The rest is average melodic rock with a few minor highlights with Come Alive and Silent Rage. Very good album. Recommended. 8.1/10

From: Lennie Date: November 22, 2005 at 16:14
Simply put, this is the album of the year! And to be honest probably wont be surpassed for a good few years - stunning from beginning to end. I actually like 'Hunters Night' (bridge reminds me of Maidens 2 minutes to Midnight')....only weakish track (out of 12!) is 'Universe of Light', but that is still good! No-one refers to 'My Own Way' - stand out track with awesome soloing from MK! 9.9/10

From: Muddley Date: November 23, 2005 at 15:05
This is awesome. I hope fans of hard rock appreciate this album, and go out and buy the stuff, instead of downloading it. ITS PHENOMENAL.

From: grimwulf Date: November 23, 2005 at 20:09
Although there were tremendous releases out this year(still waiting for Place Vendore) this is my FIRST choice of listening pleasure at the moment. A one production, Massive vocals, kick ass hooks, what more would you expect from Russel Allen and a vocalist talent like Lande. Simply a grand listening pleasure for any ears!!!

From: grimwulf Date: November 24, 2005 at 2:09
I almost forgot.on a side not. One of the best album covers i've seen in a long time too

From: baroqq Date: November 24, 2005 at 12:28
It seems that whenever Mr. Lande put out an album with other artists or collaboration, it's always gonna be a great one. Maybe there's that magic touch and good chemistry. Anyway, this is an excellent released worth having. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

From: Harald Date: December 9, 2005 at 16:11
This is a killer album with the best song of the year "My Own Way".

From: ROBERT Date: February 11, 2006 at 11:41
De lo mejor q e oido en los ultimos Meses... Acojonante la voz del Jorn!! Recomendado, sin duda d los mejores discos del 2005!!

From: Figge Date: March 9, 2006 at 18:17
Another masterpiece featuring Jorn Lande! Fantastic songs with choruses out of this world and some of the best vocals I've ever heard on record. Huge bombastic and powerful sound.....Album of the year 2005 in my opinion.

From: sluss528 Date: March 10, 2006 at 23:09
2 words- over fucking rated! i listened to this thing about 10 times and i find it to be like a bad prog. cd. if i want prog. i would listen to dream theater. punted mine on ebay!

From: Lennie Date: March 13, 2006 at 8:46
How anyone can say this is prog is beyond me??! What you have here is an awesome very melodic metal album featuring outstanding musicianship and two vocalists at the top of their game. This is easily the album of 2005. Over-rated my arse, this is THE business. 9.9/10

From: sluss528 Date: March 25, 2006 at 19:12
like i said , heard it all before. nothing original at all and jorn is not a good singer. this thing drones big time.5/10 over fucking rated!

From: Gordy Date: March 29, 2006 at 6:50
It never ceases to amaze me how some melodic rock fans (sluss528) actually have absolutely no decent radar for what is truly great melodic rock/metal. If this CD doesnt meet the criteria for that, I dont know what does. This is a classic record that will be remembered in 10 years or more as such. Buy it and support melodic rock/metal.

From: juan carlos Date: April 13, 2006 at 17:57
Recomendado. 8.5/10

From: WILMERKINGKOBRA Date: April 23, 2006 at 20:41
BUEN ALBUM !!!!! PUNTAJE : 6 wilmerparedes33@hotmail.com EL AMO DEL HEAVY

From: Ale_Carro Date: June 5, 2006 at 9:43
Reach A Little Longer,Where Have The Angels Gone,Another Battle, son los puntos culminantes,amèn de esa joya que es Truth Of Our Time 10/10. Imprescindible.carro_martin2000@yahoo.com.ar

From: Muddley Date: October 26, 2006 at 18:00
Great cd. No doubt about it, but in my ears. Masterplan are far better. The production is almost the same, but Masterplan delivers better tracks. 9/10 for Allen & Lande and 10/10 for Masterplan, from Denmark.

From: BIG-TIME Date: May 23, 2007 at 9:31
I do like this, though I think it is more Modern Heavy Metal not (Nu Metal) and not melodic hard/metal/ rock. It has a touch of Zakk Wylde on the guitar's and a bit of Malmsteen on the solo's, the vocals are AWESOME so will defo get the next album. Stick this on in the car and blow your ears out on the way to work, what a start to the day hahahah!...KEEP ROCKIN ALL!!!

From: Janvit Date: August 21, 2007 at 6:29
Simply the best. Album of the year, no doubt about that. The new cd REVENGE is a bid dissapointment compared to THE BATTLE. But who can write 2 albums in a row, as good as THE BATTLE ?

From: DanDare Date: October 16, 2010 at 18:47
Great album. I lent this to a friend and he said he thought it sounded like Magnum, which is no bad thing, but I think he's referring to their earlier stuff. 'Where Have The Angels Gone' stands out for me, but it's all good melodic metal and well worth the investment.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: July 4, 2011 at 19:06
In agreement with all the positive comments above ...very solid release with 2 of the rock greatest singers in recent years!!!...the album is packed with powerful tracks that range from,as it says in the description,Melodic Hard Rock to Metal...best shots for me are "Silent Rage","Wish For A Miracle","Come Alive"(great!),"Truth Of Our Time","My Own Way"(great!),"Ask You Anyway"(this one is my own personal fave)& "Reach A Little Longer"(beautiful)...recommended album...93/100

From: rocksoul Date: December 31, 2011 at 12:43
Great album! I bought it 2 hours ago and I'm still enjoying. Music and voices at the top. Jorn IMO, is actually, the best european voice.

From: Kralli Date: April 12, 2012 at 18:48
Where Have The Angels Gone! Classic!

From: Eric3 Date: March 3, 2021 at 18:04
Mediocre. The guitar work is rock-solid and the vocals are, of course, amazing, but the lyrics bring things down considerably and only about half the songs are worth repeating. Get "The Showdown" instead.

From: BDrums1971 Date: January 22, 2022 at 1:53
I was listening to this the other day and noticed that, after the first track, the next FIVE tracks are all virtually the same tempo. And then track 10 is also that same tempo. To me, that is a no no. Having that many songs with the same tempo/feel in a row makes the first half of the cd feel very repetitive. I am not a big fan of that mid/fast tempo anyway (I like tempos where feel and groove are easier to achieve). The vocals are outstanding of course, and the musicianship is great, I just wish they could have added some songs with different tempo/feel to them to mix it up in the first half.
