Their first self titled cd was one of my favorites, so I just had to own this one. I would have to say it's just as good as the first... with a little more of a 90's sound to it... but these guys were made for 80's rock. If you'd like to sample it, you can find their music on Napster. I recomend you check it out.

'king of the dogs',...helloooo? can it get any better than this?? nooo great band, two classic rock/metal cds... i love 'em to death. tomcat@dolfijn.nl

From: HG Date: February 16, 2002 at 20:00
It's as good as their first one, but not quite as raunchy. They NEVER caved in to the grunge movement.

From: Randy Date: February 22, 2002 at 22:39
This band really knows how to leave you wanting more! For nearly 10 years I've been waiting for a follow-up.I'm glad to see they,at least, still have a following.Seen 'em @ Calamity Janes in Las Vegas,NV in 1990. Someone must have farted at the show 'cause they never came back.By far,the BEST band EVER!!!!!!!!

From: Paulo Fernandes Date: March 10, 2002 at 13:28
Not nearly as good as the first cd, which is a shame really :\

From: William Sisco Date: April 5, 2002 at 14:11
This band is awesome. Open to the public is one of the best albums of 93. Too the band doesn't exist anymore.

From: Rick Rock Date: July 21, 2002 at 20:38
Yet again, yet again! A Triumph of artistic flair. The term hair metal does this band no justice. Artistic expression is at its highest long live the spread eagle, spread wide and gaping with sleaze.

From: koogles Date: December 4, 2002 at 20:54
Lacks the kick-ass attitude of the debut. Sounds too complacent, lifeless, BORING!

From: Rycheage Date: March 23, 2003 at 21:58
Hard rockin' kick ass hard rock. Too bad they are kaput. They should come back. "Devil's Road" rocks!! Get it.

From: The Fizzy One Date: April 27, 2003 at 5:19
Better drum sound, slower songs, somewhat, and Ray West deviates more from the Joe LeSte-meets-David Wayne screech he used a bit too much on the first album to show off more what good pipes he has. Problem? The songs aren't as aggressive as the debut, and I generally would choose agression over diversity. Debut gets an 8, this one a 7.

From: Fizz Date: April 27, 2003 at 5:20
Oops. I forgot: the Fizz Picks: "Revolution Maker," and "Fade Away."

From: Desslar Date: May 1, 2003 at 15:28
Track 9 is kind of cool, otherwise it's a bit boring and generic.

From: BORDER RAT Date: December 10, 2003 at 9:32
I HOPE THAT THESE CDS BY SPREADEAGLE WILL SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY.HOW ABOUT A BEST OF CD JUST LIKE THE EXCELLENT SKIN N BONES RELEASE ON METAL MAYHEM!

From: Altay Date: January 15, 2004 at 18:39
spread eagle is the most underrated band of it's genre in my opinion. i'm desperately lookin' for a live video-concert of 'em.any chance to find?

From: SleeZe Date: February 10, 2004 at 3:28
Kings of the dogs, just raw and nasty!yeah!

From: rass Date: March 20, 2004 at 14:37
grabs axl by his skinny little neck and kicks ass without being egotistically insane.

From: Geoff Date: September 19, 2004 at 20:58
Unfortunately this pales in comparison to the debut, but 'Devil's road' is a killer opener and a shame it doesn't continue on the more aggressive, upbeat path. It's not all bad, and 'Preacher man' and 'This is my world' are both decent hard rockers. The ballads have moments, but as complete tracks don't make it. Really a decent album and not much better. Huge shame.

From: punkiz/obesivo Date: October 22, 2004 at 14:34
es una puta mierda de disco,el primero es la hostia, pero este suena a grunge pestoso, o alternativo, no merece la pena comprarlo

From: Rocker76 Date: January 7, 2005 at 6:37
It is obvious to me that Spread Eagle delivered all they had on the debut. This follow-up doesn't come close to the raw intensity and power of S/T. "Devil's Road" and "King of the Dogs" were okay for me, but overall I wasn't nearly as impressed as I had hoped. But considering the alternatives in '93, I'll listen to it and be thankful.

From: Swriter Date: April 3, 2005 at 0:35
ok, my take on this band, 2 albums and 2 different sounding albums, both good, the first album very heavy and great stuff, this one has more melodic and catchy songs and should of broke the band big time!!! Devil's Road is a killer and how the sorta ballad Shine was not a huge hit, is beyond me, this is still next to me at all times, a great one for sure!!!

From: Jimmy D Date: August 26, 2005 at 18:53
You need this CD...if only for the groove they lay down on the verses of "King Of The Dogs". All of the other awesome songs on this disc are just an added bonus. This is great, sleazy, well executed, hair metal with a little bit of a harder edge. Check out their debut, too. Awesome!

From: rallen399 Date: February 24, 2007 at 5:08
This is their best cd by far,the 1st one was great as well but this cd doesn't have one bad song on it,a rare accomplishment. The guitar player DiBartolo is unbelievably talented, the rhythm section is tight and the vocals are better on this cd it shows his range better than the cat screams of the earlier cd,not that the 1st cd wasn't good I think this one just expanded on their talents. One of the best bands to never make huge. They should have been the next Guns And Roses without the attitude.

From: juan carlos Date: October 19, 2007 at 21:46

From: metalmastermusic Date: June 17, 2008 at 13:05
This a good album from start to finish !! I had the first album and found it to be a bit raw for my tastes but this album just kicks a**. Some guitar slinging fun found on this album and the vocals are much better than the freshman release. This a must by album for the hard rock collector. 91/100

From: Wardy Date: June 9, 2011 at 23:10
One of the most unfortunate breakups of the 90's, these guys truly deserved that third release and label support, criminal they couldn't survive during the grunge period as they toed both the 80's and 90's scenes with ease... Anyway I rate this one better than the debut, for a handful of through the roof classics that made the self titled we may not reach those heights songwise here but instead we get a complete album. Every song wins, dabbles in metal in King Of The Dogs & Devil's Road) but better delves into their own class of gutter rock laced with early Aerosmith (borderline funk) and what to my ears put the Illusions of that Guns era... and a couple quality ballads complete this one, personal fave the tragically beautiful Faith... perfect! Taken for what it was OpenToThePublic was layered with honesty, thought provoking lyrics (moving away from some of the trash talk of the debut), street cred and talent of the highest order very much worth your coin & time. Quality Rating 9.5

From: edwithmj Date: January 22, 2012 at 17:52
Almost as good as the first, this release has a slightly more funk feel to it than the debut but doesn't suffer at all from it. Shine is my favourite song here.

From: dany69 Date: October 16, 2018 at 18:26
grunge Movement ???? C'mon please,,,the sound was just different , Warrant do this with Ultraphobic and ? This is one of the best with Dog Eat Dog,,,, i love this album,,,

From: Wardy Date: November 1, 2018 at 6:53
Dany69... Don't normally respond but couldn't help but note only a couple of reviews mention the word grunge (myself included) but none appear to suggest Open To The Public IS grunge again, my own review included, but can only assume your comment was due to my 2011 review. Perhaps I didn't word it well but NO, I was NOT suggesting Spread Eagle went grunge they certainly did NOT! I simply suggested they could have and should have survived the grunge period by toeing both the 80's and 90's (HEAVY) periods. I'll take the blame for a poorly written review but would hate to have been misunderstood regarding one of my most favouritist records

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: November 1, 2018 at 13:04
I'm not seeing it either. I can only attribute it to the quite obvious language barrier. Either he didn't understand what you were saying, or we're missing what he was trying to say. Regardless, the only thing grungy about Open To The Public is the use of drop-tuning, which had yet to be explored very much in sleaze-metal, but was a favorite tool for Alice In Chains and especially Soundgarden.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: November 1, 2018 at 17:18
I'll also add that "Revolution Maker" is my favorite Spread Eagle song, from either album.

From: dany69 Date: November 1, 2018 at 18:36
Wardy Thanks i understand your point of view Bro,,!!! )

From: Wardy Date: November 2, 2018 at 22:10
Awesome thanks dany, and excellent call Doghouse great song and a personal fave also \m/ Spread Eagle back in the studio for a 2019 album, DiBartolo replaced by the very capable Ziv Shalev however, but here's hoping they can create something faithful to these first SE albums \m/
