A weak version of any mid-80's hard rock band out of Los Angeles. Nothing really memorable here boys & girls. Disposable. Like toilet tissue. .5 for sure.

A far underrated band again. Great Guitars and kool lyrics with that slight southern feel. These guys were the east coast version of Warrant/Poison and definately worth checking out. Also check out the newest version of Southgang known as the Marvelous 3. The ReadySexGo cd is an instant classic from the first track to the last. Both Southgang cd's are worth getting if you can find them.

Worth it for for the title track alone. I believe this was produced by Desmond Child though and unfortunately has that overtly commercial slickness to a lot of it. Still a good listen though.

I love this album. Great hard rockers and wonderful ballads. My favorites are Russian Roulette(great lyrics),Shoot me down and Aim for the heart. Desmond Child was an incredible hit maker. Great time when he ruled the scene. For me Southgang are better than Trixter.

A very good album, one of my favourites actually. For the ones who doesn't like this record, there are two alternatives: Either you havn't listened to it enough or you don't like 80's hard rock. Check out 'Tainted Angel' and 'Love ain't enough' on Yahoo Launch. By the way this album is a 9 out of 10 (at least).

Great album! Found it a week ago and have been playing it almost nonstop since. Aside from the song 'Love for Sale' (track 2 even??!! Which is easily the worst song on here...and not the Chevy Chase song from National Lampoons Vacation)the rest of this thing definitely does not disappoint. 'Georgia Lights', 'Tainted Angel', and 'Shoot Me Down' are my favs but everything else is great too. I agree with the others here that say 'If you see it, buy it'.

Southgang the east coast Poison or Warrant? Hell no. A melodic, hard rocking quartet that evolved into the power pop trio Marvelous 3 and eventually Butch as a solo artist. Neither Poison or Warrant musically evolved into bands with longevity. Warrant died in 1992 and Poison in 1993 -- though I dug 'Dog Eat Dog' and 'Native Tongue.' Butch Walker is an amazing talent on both guitar and as a songwriter. M3 rules. Those who find 'Tainted Angel' elementary - check out the mature 'Group Therapy.'

From: Reno |

Considering Jesse Hart once auditioned for Warrant, I can see the connection Canes. They are a party/rock band just like Poison and Warrant. The stuff Butch is doing now sounds nothing like Southgang so I don't know how you can say Southgang 'evolved'. After Southgang, Butch Mitch and Jayce had the band The Floyds and did an album called Creamy. They also sounded absolutely nothing like Southgang. Continued.......

Butch is a very talented musician and can cover many different styles and Genre's, but Southgang also died around 1992-3. Butch reinvented himself with The Floyds, Marvelous 3 and as a solo artist. I loved the Southgang cd's along with all his other work as well. I'd pretty much have to say that they were in the same boat as Poison and Warrant back in the day. That is by no means a slam. Thats good company.

Good band, but crap! Everybody in Hollywood played or wrote on and for this record!Who knows if the band was actually in the studio for this album? Too much money spent on production and not enough chops to be on the charts, I was on the 'Strip' at this time a huge fan of other such bands! These guys did not sell out clubs, how did they get so much money behind them? Crazy Stuff! Melvin C.

Whaddya mean you don't like SouthGang ? It's too bad Georgia bands don't seem to do well (outside of having short-lived local hits)anymore, because these guys had it goin' on. But then, they DID have two albums ! That's gotta stand for something. I heard them courtesy of a South-107/Q-102 DJ friend of mine (Randy) and was hooked. Overproduced ? Nah...I liked it.

Gotcha Chad! I'm also a Dokken fan. George Lynch was here in ATL recently, and I got to really talk with him like we were old friends. He even signed a promo picture and wrote a short message to my 14-year old who can't resist showing it off to his classmates. The Georgia Satellites were another good band. Looks as if we've traded the heavy rock groove for the 'sound' of Celine, Whitney, Gloria, etc. *BARFS* Love music ain't music without the groove!

Never Give in Hausman! Rock will continue as long as you search for music that you never heard from back in the day! I consider myself a big metalhead and I can't believe the music that I missed. It is crazy. This site is dedicated to finding that kind of music. I have found bands like Jesse Strange and Pink Cream 69 from this site. Dan has done a great job of keeping the Metal alive. I heard over $500,000 spent on this overly produced Bon Jovi, Kane Roberts, Desmond Child throw-aways! Too Much! Couldn't hold a candle to Tuff, Wild Boyz, Kik Tracee live! Good singer, but the rest is slush, the epitome of a day late and breaking the bank! These guys are most likely still paying the money back on this one! Harsh, but TRUE! Sorry, let's get real, where is the HEART on this kind of music? I think Sambora played the licks on this disc! Give me a BREAK!
|
From: TIM (2) |

Hey T-Bone/Blue Tequilla etc, this anything like Bon Jovi/Kane Roberts/Trixter etc? I usually love Desmond Child stuff so if this is quite melodic it might be my thing. Anything that hard rock fans say is too commercial sounding is usually right up my street!
|
From: AOR freaky |
Date: August 19, 2004 at 12:48 |
Hey TIM (2) : this is absolutely nothing like Bon Jovi or Kane Roberts ! Even not like Trixter. It's more modern (even for that time) and alternative the way Black Crowes did. It has more in common with The Black Crowes than with Bon Jovi. Don't know if this is gonna be something for you, mate ! It's certainly not my cup of tea, although I have to admit it's better than the crap Butch Walker releases these days !

From: Geoff |

How funny, I don't think you've ever heard this CD at all, AOR Freaky! Modern? Alternative? That's the most unbelievable thing I've ever heard in reference to a music disc. This is 100804c4c4ure 80's style commercial hard rock. At moments it sounds like Kane Roberts and Bon Jovi - 'Love ain't enough', 'Shoot me down', 'Russian Roulette' and 'Aim for the heart. All 4 are PERFECT songs, and the rest have slight southern influences, but is still big commercial rock. Alternative?! Wrong CD budddy...
|
From: AOR freaky |
Date: August 20, 2004 at 7:20 |
Hi Geoff, I've heard this CD mate, I even own it ! O.K. : alternative is not the right word. Let's say it's a mix of Britney Fox, with lots of Black Crowes influences. No Bon Jovi or Robert Tepper at all, mate ! And if this is the most unbelievable thing you've ever heard in reference to a music disc, then your knowless about music is poor, may friend ! This is so average, friend ! Pure eighties commercial hard rock. WRONG ! Too many rock'n roll and indeed southern influences, buddy !
|
From: Chad |
Date: August 20, 2004 at 22:26 |
This is certainly not an average release. It is not an Operation Mindcrime but it is over average. The hooks and great vocals (both lead and chorus) make this album great. You have to remember that 1991 was not in the 80's when the original metal was the shit. This kept the music alive. Ratt it was not but it was awesome nonetheless. I still crank this mother and suggest that others pick this one up too. It is highly recommended!!!
|
From: Geoff |
Date: August 21, 2004 at 23:02 |
I try to avoid replying, AOR FReaky, but I simply must. Believing that your statement is the most unbelievable thing I have heard in reference to a music disc does not mean my knowledge of music is not high, it just means I have never been around a musical commentator like you, who obviously knows so little and makes such strange comments. It has nothing to do with my knowledge of music at all and congratulations to you and your poor, strange mind for coming up with that conclusion.
|
From: AOR freaky |
Date: August 22, 2004 at 6:33 |
Hi Geoff, so I know very little about music ! Hmm. . ., if you think so ! If 38 years of listening and buying CD's, a collection of at least 12 to 15.000 CD's and elpees means nothing, well, O.K. then ! I think otherwise, my friend. Just the fact that you think that Butch Walker is better than Brett Walker, makes me smile ! Doesn't that say it all about you ! ? By the way : listen to the new Butch Walker 'Letters', the ideal concept for a night of good sleeping. Boring, soft and modern. Arch.
|
From: Federico-italy |
Date: August 22, 2004 at 16:53 |
This is a great cd of street class rock. In the vein of great bands like Warrant, Poison,Firehouse and Bon Jovi. Alternative doesn't live here. In my modest opinion this is one of the best cd where Desmond Child is involved. Everybody knows that Butch Walker or Marvelous three now sound different.
|
From: Geoff |
Date: August 22, 2004 at 23:16 |
Sorry AOR Freaky, I didn't realise you had so many CDs. Obviously you know all there is to know about music then, because you own so many!!! Because plane tickets are very expensive these days, please send a photo of your feet to me and I promise I will kiss the photo. Because my tastes are not similar to yours I know nothing about music? I never claimed I did know a lot, but if nothing else, at least I justify what comments I make. And I will certainly buy Butch's new one. My question is,
|
From: Geoff |
Date: August 22, 2004 at 23:18 |
... If you obviously hate Butch so much, why do you know what his new CD sounds like? Why listen to it? Why stain this site with your worthless opinions on an artist you will obviously never give a chance? At least know what you're talking about and have valid arguments before you do. Butch is a great musician, a brilliant song writer and does not deserve you shitty anti-anything-not-AOR comments.
|
From: AOR freaky |
Date: August 23, 2004 at 6:05 |
Geoff, I think you forget so easy ! You started with saying I knew nothing about music, not me mate. I only reacted ! And I don't hate Butch personally, I hate his kind of punky/modern music ! And yes, I listen in my record shop to as many CD's as possible, to know what's going on ! I've already heard a lot of his new CD ! Well, if you buy it, then you are even more stupid than I thought, friend. You will be surprised : it's soft, relaxed poppy stuff ! Well, if you want to spend money on CRAP .
|
From: Geoff |
Date: August 23, 2004 at 8:42 |
No,AOR Freaky,I did not forget at all.I am well aware of the fact that I said you know nothing about music and I will say it again if you'd like. What I said was that I do not claim to know everything about music myself. If you saying the same about me was merely a reaction to my comment then my point about your mental age is proved. You of all people should know that soft music does not mean bad, especially with Butch's lyrics & brilliant ear for melody behind it.I've heard tracks of it and love it
|
From: AOR freaky |
Date: August 23, 2004 at 15:30 |
If you like it, that's damn fine for you, Geoff ! To my ears it sounds like an insult for what I think real music should be. I even go that far to don't call that music, Geoff ! And no, Geoff, soft doesn't mean something has to be bad. After all, I lived in the sixties and it was mostly 'soft' pop I heard : Beatles, Beach Boys, Barry Ryan, Small Faces, Honeybus, Love Affair, Bee Gees, Casuals, The Boys, The Kinks, Marmalade, Hollies, The Move, Amen Corner, Tommy James and the Shondells etc.
|
From: AOR freaky |
Date: August 23, 2004 at 15:33 |
etc. I can go forever, the list is endless ! I all liked that and STILL do ! Why, because it was quality stuff, and that's just what mr. Butch Walker NEVER will offer, cause he has not the talent of the above mentioned acts ! Sorry, I know the truth hurts sometimes ! But that's life, I'm afraid ! The best !

This is some of the best '80's melodic southern hard rock' I've ever heard. Tainted Angel blew me away the first time I heard it, and Boys Nite Out, Georgia Lights, Love Ain't Enough, She's Danger City, and Aim For The Heart round out the great rockers on this superb release. Quality-wise, this album is a lot like Unruly Child's first album. Good songs throughout! The filler here would be above average tracks on many other albums. 9/10

i am not interested about this band.but i read all the comments and i think that maybe it is a mistake to have not this record in my collection.the mistake i made is to buy this cd!first the production is just decent it could be better.desmond child have co written all the songs.at this time he have lost his inspiration or he was very sick.the best songs are "shoot me down"(a hit) and the 2 ballads track 4 and 10(big bon jovi influence).but for the rest this band have absoluty no style.it is very weak ;track 1 they look like to a poor motley crue,on the others songs they look like to very poor wildside, aerosmith or danger danger with ridiculous southern influence.if you want listen class hard southern rock listen doc holliday ,blackfoot or the last molly hatchet and lynyrd skynyrd not this very weak band.!!!!!!

I don't like this CD. Very annoying and extremely cheesy voice and lyrics. I have heard a lot of hair metal CDs but this must be the cheesiest one, made only for commercial success and overproduced. Tainted Angel is the best song here but it sounds exactly like a Poisons' Unskinny Bop. I have to admit that in the beginning I liked it because the songs seemed to be very catchy but after few listens I couldn't stand it. Their second CD is way better - I can say even great.

Well, I like this cd! Aim For The Heart, Shoot Me Down, Love Ain't Enough, Tainted Angel, and Boys Nite Out are my picks. It is very hard to find cds, now or back then that you loved every song on them. You just have to listen to the ones you like, make compilations or whatever. So when I say "I like this band or cd,that may mean I only like 4-5 songs out 10 or so. What are you going to do, just enjoy what you can!

Good album. If anybody listen the ballad 'Love Ain't Enough' without seeing the cd cover, he/she will ask this question:- is it BON JOVI?
