There are a lot of great, solid records released this year, especially in the pure hardrock and progressive/symphonic rock/metal genre. Not that much in the AOR/pomp rock genre, I'm afraid ! But this release beats 'em all and IMO by miles ! This is the progressive/symphonic/pomp stuff I adore ! What mr. Metal Church Vanderhoof offers here is simply STUNNING !!! You can hear Kansas, Styx, Roadmaster, Yes etc. on this disc. It's back to the seventies, when music was still music. Until now, with

From: AOR freaky Date: September 6, 2005 at 13:11
without a shadow of a doubt, ALBUM OF THE YEAR so far, and believe me, it will be hard to beat this one ! BRILLIANT !!!

If 70's Prog/Pomp is your thing and Kansas, Styx, Spock's Beard & Gentle Giant float the old boat, then this should be at the top of the shopping list. A great set of songs on this, especially the title track,'The Fringes' & 'Seasons'. The use of traditional Keys - Hammond, Mellotron and anologue synths aswell as a complete anologue recording give this that genuine 70's feel. Definately one of the best of it's type this year, although if Prog ain't your thing, then this will leave you pretty cold

From: swriter Date: September 6, 2005 at 15:50
hmmm, this one will be a split review for me, on one hand, I love the pomp/prog/ whatever u call this band 70's influence thing!!!!! The production is super, the vocals and keys(especially), and guitars are absolutley stunningly mixed. On the other side, for me, the songs do not go anywhere at times, just a tad bit not catchy enough for me, I play it like crazy, but misssing that certain something for me to be a 10.

From: AOR freaky Date: September 7, 2005 at 3:03
Swriter, I can understand your feelings, mate ! This is NOT AOR and not as catchy as the things you usually like. But if you're from the old school (Kansas, Styx, Yes etc.) like me, you'll find this PHENOMENAL ! This is the stuff I like MOST, even more than pure AOR ! CLASSIC STUFF IMO ! Long live the sixties and the seventies !

From: Wotty Date: September 8, 2005 at 15:19
I have not heard this in any way, shape or form so I can't comment on its status at all,but it's better than Journey !!!!! Irony eh !!!

From: AOR freaky Date: September 9, 2005 at 4:39
Wotty : why comment if you even didn't hear this PEARL ! Yes, it's better than Journey, but also better than anything else released this year ! BUT . . . , you have to have a taste for the seventies stuff I you really want to enjoy this ! But everyone who likes Styx, Kansas, Yes etc. should BUY this immediately ! You won't regret it. If you don't like pomp/progressive stuff at all, this will leave you cold. Jez said it right. This time I can agree with his view on this. Wotty : try it out

From: Wotty Date: September 9, 2005 at 6:33
Wotty : why comment if you even didn't hear this PEARL! Well Freaky,it was me being ironic. From comments and reviews I've READ it's not really my stuff, but unlike your goodself I won't go and buy an album if the genre is not really my taste,I've more respect for my money. Why did you buy Generations ???.A final and definitive answer would be interesting,or did you get it just to stir up trouble, well you wouldn't do that, would you???

From: AOR freaky Date: September 9, 2005 at 10:33
You're a free man, Wotty, but you're simply missing THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR so far, and by far ! Why I did buy Journey : well, I give it 6 out of 10, which is no bad rating if you know that I'll never give a record the full score ! It's an average record, but it's nice to have it in my collection. You should know that I'm a collector and I want to keep my AOR collection as complete as possible ! Clear ? ! You may find this stupid, but at least I know what I'm talking about, unlike many others !

From: TIM (2) Date: September 9, 2005 at 10:36
I will check this album out. If it's anywhere close to my album of 2005 so far (Allen/Lande - The Battle) then it ought to be pretty amazing stuff.

From: AOR freaky Date: September 9, 2005 at 10:43
TIM (2) : you can't compare this one to Allen/Lande : The Battle, which is real GREAT stuff, no mistake about that ! Let's say both are GREAT records, but not in the same genre. Best !

From: Wotty Date: September 9, 2005 at 11:19
Well,Well. It's now come down to Amateurs and Professionals has it ?? I'll be the first to admit that compared to others,my knowledge is sadly lacking. But I'm not afraid to ask.But to say the likes of Jez and Tim(2)are"AMATEURS"is rubbish, even by your standards. We all like the music and some know a hell of a lot more than others.Your knowledge for instance, seems to consist of not liking or disapproving of 99% of albums listed, with no mention of songs or band members. Why is that Mr.Professional ??

From: Jez Date: September 9, 2005 at 12:42
You can't compare this to the New Journey album either can you!!!

From: AOR freaky Date: September 10, 2005 at 5:02
Indeed ! Indeed ! But at the end of the year we all have to make a kind of ranking ! And then this one will blow the new Journey away. But you're right, they are not in the same genre at all !

From: AOR freaky Date: September 10, 2005 at 5:09
Wotty : you are an AMATEUR, not ! ? Glad you have the balls to admit it ! I'm THE professional !!!!! That's the way it is. In the world you have leaders and followers ! I'm A LEADER, the rest of you and your mates are plain and simple : followers. Only Koogles knows more than me. That's the truth ! And Rob, swriter, PAUL, AORjocke etc. are great too ! I have absolutely no problem to admit that, Wotty. But people like you, Jez, Erik etc. are only followers. Sad, but true. Anyway, best.

Sad, how very sad. What about the message board Freak Are u comin over or what.

From: SCANDI Date: September 10, 2005 at 13:53
It's definitely enough aorfreaky!! It's no more funny at all. Do that obvious provocations give you cheap thrills or whatever?? Don't you have better things to do or don't you have any self-confidence?? STOP wasting this space with your so-called arguments right now or I'm gonna ask Dan to kick you out.

From: Rockhead Date: September 10, 2005 at 15:03
I like a challenge. I will challenge Freaky's knowledge. if someone would be kind enough to compile a test I will go head to head with Freakster

From: AOR freaky Date: September 12, 2005 at 6:35
Hi SCANDI : thougt you were a lot 'smarter' too, mate ! What a STUPID and CHILDISH reaction. But, you can't expect more from 'pubers' like you, I guess. Please man, ask Dan to kick me out, if that gives you a kick. POOR, POOR SOUL !!!!!

From: velez Date: September 12, 2005 at 13:09

Freaky - You coming over to the message boards - Very Rude to ignore a question you know! Something I'm sure you teach your pubers at school.

From: AOR freaky Date: September 13, 2005 at 1:45
I'll try to make some time for it, Jez. You have a point, but I can't promise it !

From: T-Bone Date: September 13, 2005 at 6:00
22 Comments and Freaky's made 10 of them? We know you liked this one, but time to go find something else to comment on. I've heard 3-4 tunes from this and It's decent in my opinion, but nothing to go over the edge for. Good musicianship and production

From: Geoff Date: September 13, 2005 at 22:32
Like Rockhead, I would gladly go toe to toe with AOR Freaky in a 'test' of musical knowledge. I actually thought someone had used his ID as a joke to make those unbelievably stupid claims and posts above as I thought it not possible, even from someone as lost and strange as AOR Freaky. On the message board we speak of, I once started a thread questioning Freaky's music knowledge (which I think is extremely poor and one-tracked) and I stand by that today. Clueless, is how I'd describe him.

From: juan carlos Date: October 16, 2006 at 22:47
Vaya difícil album para comentar ehh.. Y es que esto es Progresivo/Pomp metal melódico y demás. Difícil porque no soy muy fan del Progre ni del Pomp pero para los amantes de estos estilos, éste album les debe caer muy bien. Me gustan las partes rifferas Maidenescas que realizan por ejemplo en "Find The Time" o "Speed of Time". La producción está muy buena. Los temas no son completos para mí, solo partes me gustan. Solo para amantes del Prog/Pomp. --/---.
