cool to see this added!!!!! I saw MBolton open for Bob Segar around 83-84 sometime, he did most of this album and some old Blackjack tunes, not sure who was in the band live at that time. This is a good one, hand in hand with the second album, although that one beats this for me by a hair. Fools Game, Same Thing, Carrie, Can't hold on, some good tunes, but on a whole, not as strong as the second masterpiece, very good though!!!

This one for me is virtually on par with 'Everybody's Crazy'& was my first introduction to Sir Michael all those years ago. Some brill tunes on here 'Fools Game' 'She Did The Same Thing' 'Hometown Hero' 'Can't Hold On' the list goes on with only the ballad 'I Almost Believed' being the average track. A Monster Line up of musos aswell -Aldo Nova, some of the Touch boys (of whom Mark Mangold wrote some of the material) half of Balance, Mark Clarke, Scott Zito. In one word heaven.

Decent AOR stuff, but not really great ! I'm not a big fan of the man's voice, I'm afraid ! Not one of my fave AOR releases, neither is 'Everybody's Crazy'. Solid, but not classic.

How anyone can talk about this outside the classic genre is beyond me. Put the first three tracks on this album against any other in the 80s, and I guarentee that this record will come across at least as strong if not better than any other LP. 'Fools Game', 'She Did The Same Thing' and 'Hometown Hero' are simply amazing tracks! Michael has a great voice...its too bad that the rock buying public didnt pay enough attention to give him a hit. Utterly Essential.

From: TomStavely Date: May 26, 2006 at 5:22
Agree this is utterly essential WHY is this album not talked about more its one of the hidden gems of Aor it really doesnt get better than this one of the best AOR 80's albums Mike's voice is simply outstanding, Yeah as people above said hometown hero She did the Same thing Carrie Those songs are unbeatable such a shame mike gave it all up, Really if you like AOR or 80's rock and proberly both YOU MUST BUY THIS ALBUM IT IS CLASSIC THERE IS NO ARGUMENT 10/10

From: Nick C Date: May 26, 2006 at 18:22
Can't believe I haven't commented on this. I have to agree with Tom completely this is a classic and dare I say it I prefer this to Everybody's Crazy....only just, I think it rocks a little harder and that's why I prefer it. Pity a few more albums down the line he turned his hand to MOR, the angels must've wept when Soul Provider came out lol.

From: TomStavely Date: May 29, 2006 at 6:28
Yes this is better than Everybodys Crazy but that album has Save our Love and Cant turn it off on which are 2 awesum Aor masterpeices Mike was so great back then. Also the Blackjack albums are very good but this album is Mike's best and should be in the top 10 all time greatest AOR albums. 11/10

From: aorteto Date: October 22, 2006 at 15:55
I had no idea about this one, I'm in shock because it's great AOR music like DRIVE,SHE SAID, ALDO NOVA, ect. A lot of choruses and harmonies and wonderful songs.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: April 29, 2007 at 11:49
Mark Mangold (Drive She Said) was involved here so it has to be freakin' good!!!.

From: Figge Date: August 10, 2007 at 5:53
I prefer "Everybody's Crazy" over this one, but only just. It's a very fine line. Both essential releases and among the absolute best AOR albums ever. I bought "Crazy" first and simply loved it, that might be the reason why I prefer that one as this one is a slightly rougher and more rocking affair and should appeal more to me. The man's got a fantastic voice, no doubt.

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: October 8, 2007 at 21:52
Excelente disco

I don't care what anyone says, this is the start of a fantastic trio of albums. Sure, he probably kept the mullet for about five years too many, but he hammered out some great tracks in the Eighties (for others as well) and he has a great voice. The best, though, was yet to come.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: October 17, 2010 at 19:08
Yeah DanDare, you are spot on man!!!..this is the start of the incredible albums (all of them, including the chessy ones)that "the voice" have recorded(Michael Bolton is one of my all time favorite singer/artist )...as i wrote back in 2007 Mark Mangold is involved here,so it helped to enrich the qualilty of the album a lot..."Fool's Game" is far the best track but then another great tracks such as "She Did The Same Thing" & "Back In My Armas Again" makes the album a very pleasant one surely...90/100

From: pompster80 Date: July 13, 2012 at 11:27
Sensational solo-debut from Michael Bolton. A real AOR/Melodic Rock gem - no wonder when you have a glimpse at the personnel involved. It's a pity he got caught by the softener later on losing the edge in his music. "Hometown Hero" is my favourite track among the brilliant 9 highlights.

From: pibe Date: June 2, 2013 at 5:44
buen disco de aor, tiene temazos como,SHE DID THE SAME THING Y FOOLS GAME-7/10

From: hair metal again Date: May 27, 2018 at 4:18
fantastic debut for MICHAEL BOLTON after the BLACKJACK ones and what you get is bombastic radio friendly hard rock music with great songs and big choruses!many great musos involved and of course Michael s voice stealing the show!essential one that captures that early 80 s thing

From: 123charpenay Date: June 7, 2018 at 13:30
i ve discover this cd only now.shame on me.thanx to hair metal for his comment ,he have given me the desire to find this cd.receive it today from england.i m not disapointed .this cd smell good the start of the eighties with influence of van stephenson and aldo nova."fools game" and "carrie" are some hits ,two killer songs.the rest is very very great except track 9 (the ballad).very average.the sound is perfect the production absoluty excellent.ok this record is not at the same exceptionnal level of"every body s crazy"(a real masterpiece).maybe the best record of the start of the eighties with the bon jovi s debut album.

From: 123charpenay Date: June 8, 2018 at 8:32
i can add that the riff of track 7 "back in my arms again" is the same than "the bitch is back" from elton john.

From: tomdwa Date: May 2, 2020 at 14:05
Well, what a fantastic album this is...! Just look at the list of who was involved, and you know what you're gonna get. And add to that the fact that Bolton has the pipes of a half god, and you get masterpieces as the great opener Fools game, or She did the same thing, or the ultra catchy Carrie. A must have!

From: Thomas/Coastline Date: March 4, 2021 at 21:00
Michael Bolton did two R&B influenced albums in the 70's using his birth surname, Bolotin. After that he became the singer of American Radio-Rock band Blackjack, who put out two nice records: Blackjack - S/T, (1979) and Worlds Apart, (1980). By 1983 it was time for this great and in the history of the genre, cherished recording. It's a milestone in melodic rock and features prominent musicians and session players like Aldo Nova, Bob and Bruce Kulick, Chuck Burgi, Doug Katsaros and Mark Mangold. This masterpiece contains several all time AOR favourites such as "Fools Game", "She Did The Same Thing", Can't Hold On, Can't Let Go" and "Carrie". Bolton's 1985 album "Everybody's Crazy" is rated even higher by many but I'm one of those who like the 1983 effort a tiny bit more, so I give this essential classic 10/10 points.
