| Back to Reality. Enigmatic title, isn't it? Does it refer to getting back to business after the death of their guitarist Tim Kelly, or does it refer to getting back to the musical styles of the '80s and what made them what they are? Whatever the meaning behind the CD title, good 'ole Slaughter is back, kickin' ass and takin' names. After the fairly lackluster previous 2 efforts (Fear No Evil and Revolution), Slaughter is pulling no punches this time out. The music just feels "alive" for a change. Jeff Blando more than holds his own, and absolutely shreds in several places, proving he's more than just a stand-in. Track By Track: - Killin' Time (3:58). Right out of the gate, the guys assault you with an mid-tempo rocker. Mark's vocals are back to vintage form (as opposed to the subdued vocals on Revolution). There is just the barest tinge of '90s instrumentation to this one.
- All Fired Up (4:32). This one is straight out of the 1980s! This is a balls-to-the-wall rocker, guaranteed to do what it's title suggests...
- Take Me Away (4:04). There's somthing Ozzy-ish about this track, it's bizarre. A decent rocker, albeit somewhat bland.
- Dangerous (3:48). A groove right from 1987. This one should go over extremely well live.
- Trailer Park Boogie (3:15). This one's got a bit too much '90s in it for my tastes. It rocks in a darker, heavier way.
- Love is Forever (6:00). The first "ballad" of the album, it actually gets into mid-tempo and ands up having more of an "anthem" feel than an outright lights-low, cigarette-lighter ballad. I think a minute or so could have easily been trimmed from it though.
- Bad Groove (3:32). First time I heard this, I thought I was hearing Guns 'n Roses. This could have easily been on Appetite for Destruction.
- On My Own (5:01). Extremely radio-friendly. Good sing-along chorus. Fairly low-key verses that build to good powerful chorus. One of the best tracks on the album.
- Silence of Ba (2:36). I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of instrumentals. They seem like so much "filler" at times. This one could have been omitted and no one would have missed it.
- Headin' for a Dream (4:56). I get a whole Led Zeppelin or Zebra vibe from this song, don't know why. It starts off fairly slow and low-key and pretty much stays that way for much of the song. A bit of a quasi-psychedelic thing happening until it breaks into a pretty rocking chorus towards the end of the song.
- Nothin' Left to Lose (3:42). The ole' "Woman done left me, think I'll drink myself into a coma" refrain that could have been used in a country song. A very bar-room rock feel to it.
- Untitled hidden track (2:21). Not sure exactly what this is. The guys just wanted to fool around and be silly...a "closing time" kinda thang.
Overall this is a solid album; nothing groundbreaking, but it's considerably better than the last 2 efforts. The multimedia content on the CD is worth looking at (mostly bio and discography information, but the 2 videos are fun). There are occasional tinges of '90s riffs, but nothing over the edge. If you're a fan of early Slaughter this won't disappoint, even if the album does trail off somewhat down the home stretch... Rating: 77/100

| this is one of their better albums by slaughter . i love their so determined to stay around i wish most bands would tuff it out like they have instead of throwing on the towel . rock on guys

| Even through the loss of long-time Slaughter six-stringer Tim Kelly, Slaughter is kicking more ass than ever. I was really surprised to hear the band writing and playing some actually very good material on 'Back To Reality'. Unfortunately the entire record is not completely consistent; there are at LEAST four tunes that I make sure to skip every time I pop it in my player. 'BTR' may be no 'Stick It To Ya', but there are enough goods to satisfy true Slaughter fans.

| Pretty good consistent album and Blando is just incredible. The thing with Slaughter is you know what you're going to get so to review these guys albums seems like a waste. Good solid melodic metal that will make anyone who digs this style of music happy.

| Awesome album a must have for Slaughter fans. Blando sounds great!He pulls harmonics on his guitar just like Zakk Wylde.

| I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff Bland (Blando) after he started with Slaughter. he's a very down to earth person and a very talented guitarist. I saw him do something that i've never seen before from a musician. There were 4 people in wheelchairs at the show, and people had gathered in front of them so they couldn't see. He came off the stage and moved a table and brought them in front of it so they could see the stage without people pushing them back. Now thats a great guy.

| Reno, all 4 guys are very cool people. They all were nice enough to sign my copy of BTR. The CD rocks, too! Their best since Fear No Evil. I always listen to the first 5 tracks, then after that I start skipping over songs. Great overall CD.

| COOOOL! it's so wonderful to see Slaughter as still rockin' great years after their eruption no matter how they were overshadowed by stupid grunge noise during that period. This album is a bit harder than their previous records. Another happy thing here is a great guitarist replacing Tim after his death. Jeff is really brilliant enough here. In this album the strong and pure sound of guitars and drums really affected me. Mark? He's incredible as always been. So this is "BACK TO REAL HARD-ROCK"!

| "Love is forever" is a truly beautiful song, one of the best ballads ever. "nothin' left to lose" is outstanding too! For me track 6 onwards are the best.

| There's some great songs on this one that crank really well. As with the last release, theres some filler content here also so be warned about that. fortunately, Jeff Blando shreds and theres some of slaughters best songs here aswell. All fired up, On my own, Take me away, all quality tunes. Theres some bonus materials also for PC users.... PS - how about some new material guys, its been 4 years

| I dont understand you guys, i think its the best SLAUGHTER album in yearssssssss!!! They went back to the late 80s with this album in my opinion.

| There are some outstanding tracks here. This is a very good harking back to the glory days of "Stick It To Ya" and "The Wild Life". "Killing Time", "All Fired Up" and "Dangerous" are all in-your-face rockers. "Love Is Forever" and "On My Own" are excellent power ballads. Slaughter has returned with a vengeance after a couple of lackluster releases.

| Good to see them continue after the sad passing of Tim Kelly (RIP), and they did really well here. This is a huge sounding album (The drums are massive!), and the songs are killer! 'All fired up' is a monster, 'Take Me Away' is a killer heavy Slaughter track, 'Love is Forever' is a beautiful ballad, 'On My Own' is a killer rocker - I love the vibe here, and 'Nothin' Left to Lose' is a fine track itself. A very, very good heavy rock CD. I like it a lot!

| I did not rate this cd high but it does have some good songs well the first six songs are great then I think the rest is just fillers. Slaughet just don't have the touch they used to have compared to there first couple of cd's.Even the The last Vinnie Vincent Invasion cd Was better then most of slaughter cd's.

| For me this isn't more than a decent disc.When the best tracks are the ballad I think it's not a good sign...Great Mark Slaughter on vox as always but I don't hear any killer tune or remarkable riff,just good but average stuff...."On my own"is my fave here also because it remind me to the great first Slaughter era....7,5/10!

| This should have been Slughters' 3rd or 4th studio album. It unfortunately was about 5 years too late & appeared after grunge & rap rock had already killed most hair metal groups. Still, it's almost on par as a whole as anything they did early in their career. Glad they kept the flame alive & surely, this album helped their cause.

| i think it's a good album not great their sound is a bit different now though still rocks not to sure about the zakk wylde style guitar playing i like that sound just don't think it's for slaughter

A  album but nothing to do with the band's classic ones..."Killing Time","All Fired Up","Dangerous","Trailer Park Boogie"(probably the best song IMHO)& "Love Is Forever"(nice)...first studio album recorded with Jeff Bland on guitars(remember Tim Kelly died in a car crash )...80/100

| We didn't know much back then about Jeff Blando. We know now how talented this guy is. With these guys, Vince Neil, solo, phenomenal.
