Pretty much a continuation from the first excellent Icon disc, although taking both overall, this one probably edges the debut as it is a little more uptempo, slightly more varied. THE big highlight here is without doubt Opener 'The Die Is Cast',a simply stunning opener that reverts back to the classic Asia sound of the 80's, Huge Keys on this one & definately one of the AOR tracks of the year by far. The rest is all of high quality making Icon II one of the highlights of the year. Excellent

Loosely based on Julius Caesar's historical"Crossing The Rubicon" in 49BC ,Geoff Downes & John Wetton paint a tapestry of rich musical stylings combining with lyrics reflecting their own personal"rubicons"they have crossed recently."The Die Is Cast"is a great opener,a keyboard heaven!"Whirlpool","Reflections","Rubicon" are brilliant songs."To Catch A Thief" finds John sharing vocals with the stunning Anneke van Giersbergen.A very fine album-some more uptempo songs would make this a masterpiece.

In a word: Brilliant! The best Wetton has sounded in a dogs age and the most Asia sounding set of tunes he has appeared on since Battle Lines. One of the best releases of 2006, with two of the best opening tracks I have ever heard on an album. All Asia fans need this album, pronto! 8.5/10.

I agree!!!

yes, itīs true: the first 2 songs are perfect + brilliant melodic rock tracks in 80īs ASIA style. But then the whole thing calms down way too much. So all in all you canīt say that this is more uptempo than the first icon release. More stuff like track 1+2 would have made this a masterpiece. So it canīt be compared with ASIA. But for sure nice laidback AOR with Johns great voice. 8,5/10

This one has the better beginner (pomp which reminds me on finish 'classic metal rock' bands) -- the first ICON release has the better ender. So if these two albums were put together with my other favourite song here in "To catch a thif" (sensitive and slow with female voice which reminds me on the ballads on "Lord of the dance CDs). Another 'better' song is "Shannon" which reminds me on BOB GELDOF due to it's irish traditional roots. I gave it 6.9

Everything has been said already on top. Simply stunning !

Got my hopes up after the excellent opening two tracks but then it became a bit hit & miss. Tracks 5,6,8 & 10 are mediocre at best while "Whirlpool" has a good verse but is let down by a lame chorus. The rest are OK if not spectacular.
