|I used to have this album and let a friend borrow it, it never came back to me! I have been looking for this and it's very hard to find. GREAT ALBUM ALL AROUND! PS: The singer also has another abum with a band called CONTRABAND along with Bobby Blotser on drums, Tracy Guns and Michael Shenker on guitars and the basist from Vixen.

|This is truly a great album. Every song is a classic hard rock song. Plus, the singer, Richard Black, has an album coming out next year with Jake E Lee of Ozzy and Badlands fame called Bourgeous Pigs.

|Not between my favorites, but a good album. Some songs really rocks. I often played "Shake for me" when I had a program on a local radio. That was long ago.
||Date: May 9, 2002 at 10:45|
|This cd should have gotten more recognition, but got buried under Poison, Motley, G-N-R, and other bands of the same time period. Getting harder to find these days. Good grab for any 80's rock fan
||Date: May 10, 2002 at 13:53|
|This is just an ok album from a band that isn't special. The best song is the cover of Fleetwood Mac's The Chain. If you really want a copy I have one on cassette and I will have no problem making it into MP3's and share it with you. It's not like the band will lose any money from it. Just the bastards that dropped for Nirvana clones!!!! Oh I want their cover of Bang A Gong!!!!

|I have this album but i dont' like it. i think that's not the same hard rock style i used to hear....it´s almost a sleaze band with very bad songs.... if anyone is looking for that... talk to me firstname.lastname@example.org
||Date: July 25, 2002 at 5:50|
|It's ironic that these guys were supposed to be THE band coming out of LA in the late eighties and G-N-R was just another band with flyers everywhere. I don't know what happened but solid effort here. Anyone who spent too much time in strip clubs can appreciate "Shake For Me". A killer version of "The Chain". Should have done more.
||Date: July 30, 2002 at 13:23|
|Anyone who likes Richard's vocals ought to try out a band called No Sweat s/t. The group is more aor than hard rock but they are fun to listen to. They're not too expensive either.

|You can also check out Richard Black in Contraband. The album came out in 1991 and they had a video for the song "All The Way To Memghis." Also in the band are, Bobby Blotzer (Ratt), Tracii Guns (LA Guns), Share Pedersen (Vixen), and Michael Schenker (MSG). I don't know?........... Maybe that album is here on H. Harmonies?

|Classy,quite pomp,groovy,California type of hard rock band!Neat melodic doubled guitar work!razor edged vocals and solid striking drums.Good raunch`n roll songs melted with up- tempo melodies.Charming atmosphere works as a chemesty all toghether with the entire other elements in perfect harmony!This album sounds like G`n Roses met MSG.Paris Calling is a great opener and remarkable pomp-rock anthem!85 out of 10!!

|Gotta agree... this is a great album! I remember the band getting a fair amount of hype around the time of this release. They were supposed to be one of THE bands on the rise, but they never followed through. Too bad... I would have loved to hear another album from these guys. Contraband was OK, but not as good as this.
||Date: December 23, 2002 at 23:02|
|nothing original here.they did the same thing every other band was doing at the time.but they did it well.if you like the cheesey style of 80's rock,you'll like these guys,if you want something with originality....pass this one by.

|If you dig Shark Island, don't forget to check out 'Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure' soundtrack. There is some good shit on there, really. Shark Island has two tracks on that soundtrack that can be found nowhere else--"Dangerous" and "Father Time". Both tunes are pretty good. Check it out.

||Date: April 24, 2003 at 23:36|
|Very cool and catchy melodies are written all over this. Shake for Me has a chorus that will stick in you head, Bad for each other is a great ballad. Underated band which were never as popular as they should have been. Jay from Australia.

|I had the priveledge of winning this recently on Ebay. This cd JAMS! Richard Black has a killer vocal range.Paris Calling,Shake for Me, and Spellbound ROCK! I also have their very rare "Listen to this Axle" 3 cd set.The first two cds are demos from '92 and the 3rd cd is an extended version of "Live at the Whisky Bastille". This band was very good and should have been famous! I also liked Richard in Contraband. Rock on!

|I heard this band first time in Metal Hammers collection album, Hammer Rocks(1990). There is previously unreleased live version of Somebody´s Falling. I later bought this album and there´s very catchy tunes on it, like Paris Calling, Shake For Me, Spellbound and Get Some Strange. Good vocalist. Never heard their debut, but it´s shame that they never released album after this...

|One of the best albums of 89 considering it their first major release from one of THE BEST BANDS out of LA period. Seen them all & heard them all can't even compare those lucky under talented pussy bands bands like ratt/poison/warrant/bullet boys to these guys. Shark Island got screwed, if they were given a comercial chance like those other hacks they would still be rocking today. Metal T you are an idoit or you must be a pipe smoking poison fan considering your comments.

Man, I couldn't believe how good this album is!!!!!I can't believe that I had never even heard of these guys!!! It ROCKS from from front to back!!!! Get your copy as you won't be dissapointed!!!!!

|Great live band...better than studio record. They opened for La Guns on the cocked & loaded tour. It seemed everyone was really waiting for Guns. They didn't sound good at all. I told the band that afterwards they sounded a hell lot better. La Guns didn't impress me at all live. The record sounded different than most records of the time. Production and mixing I assume..the drums were more out front from what I gather. Good record not great for me.

|Quality album, now re-issued on a great value double-CD with the "Live at the Whiskey" album and some soundtrack tunes. Despite the fact that the CDs have been pressed on the wrong discs and the bonus tracks are all in the wrong order (and are pretty average IMO) the re-mastering job is excellent. Great commercial hard rock. 8.5/10.

|TIM I have bought reeditions and song 6 on the album (not live one) has an error in 1 channel. It sounds bad for 2-3 seconds, and at the end of the song it also has a strange short click. If someone of you have an original copy say to me if it's only in my original please. Thanks http://www.cityofdreamsweb.tk
||Date: January 9, 2005 at 4:02|
|Back in the 80's, these guys were THE backyard party band in my area (Arcadia/Pasadena, CA.) after Van Halen hit it big. Of course they were called The Sharks back then. I am a little disappointed with this cd after growing up listening to The Shark's "Altar Ego" LP. Altar Ego was more raw, not produced as well, but captured the band's energy better than this does. Seek out a song called "My City" off the Point Break soundtrack. It rocks!
||Date: January 19, 2005 at 18:20|
|Considered an AOR classic? I don't get it. Most people really like this but it just seems all over the place with little substance.

|Hey ace66- I wouldn't rely on anyone else's opinion of this release. It really is a matter of individual taste with this one. What Shark Island lacked in image and flash they more than made up for in hooks, depth, and feeling. Think of an energetic marriage between Baton Rouge and Dokken. It still gets plenty of plays from me.
||Date: February 16, 2005 at 9:02|
|Thanks for your comment Mr Taylor.I hope the production is good.
||Date: February 16, 2005 at 15:34|
|Hi ace!!!! well, maybe this is one of those grow on u albums, the first time did not do much, I will listen again and keep in touch, not that it is bad, it is not, very good musicianship, just the songs did not hit me, I will listen again a few more times !!!

|I revisited this one in earnest over the weekend. Not your typical crunch and flasher from LA. The instrument production is very clean, almost mechanical in places. Reminds me of Neverland or Rockhead. The good stuff here comes from Richard Black's emotive growl, like Stephen Pearcy meets Jim Morrison. The mid-tempo stuff is a bit lacking, but the rockers hit the mark. "Passion to Ashes" is my favorite. Unique.
||Date: March 7, 2005 at 10:38|
|I just got this one recently, this cd Rocks!! I had heard of them(Mostly from Contraband) but never heard any of their songs. Its a shame these guys didnt do better than they did!!
||Date: March 13, 2005 at 8:04|
|Finally got it.....this is ok for my collections.After several spins it is similar to Babylon A.D's but with much less kick.But the badass attitudes are there.
||Date: March 21, 2005 at 10:58|
|I thought Shark Island did a great job doing their own thing, at a time when so many bands were competing for the recognition. 'Paris Calling' and 'Somebody's Falling' are great hard rock tunes, and 'Why Should I Believe' is an unbelievable power ballad, one of my favorite tunes from '89. Could have done w/o the Fleetwood Mac cover, but even it's not bad considering. All in all, a great 80s metal album and certainly worthy of a listen for any fan of that decade's metal contributions.
||Date: March 21, 2005 at 12:38|
|I havent listened to this album in ages, but it is great...cant believe some think it isnt so good. Paris Calling is such a good tune! This isnt as instant as some albums granted but the vocals are killer and the musicianship is as solid as you will find. Give it more time and you will believe.........
||Date: March 26, 2005 at 14:33|
|I have the jap version with the extra track(make a move)fantastic music great singer and jack ponti songs what more could you ask for!
||Date: April 18, 2005 at 15:30|
|I know everyone has their opinion, and here's mine...this album is horrible. The only good thing about it is Richard's voice, and the ballad 'Bad For Each Other'. The rest is just horrible. I've had the CD since it came out, and NEVER listen to it. Maybe it's just me, but none of the songs sound good. Just a bunch of thrown together crap. IMHO spend your money on another CD. This one just disappoints on every level. Rating: 1/10

|Metal T's comments here are laughable! 'Lightweight pop act aka Bon Jovi'??! yeah right...if the end of Pashion to Ashes is lightweight Im a monkey's uncle. And as for comparing this class hard rock act with the music by numbers of the boring and very irritable Ratt...well? Ive it all now. Pick this up - great hard rock album. Fantastic vocals. Cool songs.

|They were never played that much in America eitheer, Charpenay. They weere one of those bands who weere big in the club scene in Los Angeles (a lot of people who were there claim Axl Rose "borrowed" his stage moves ffrom Richard Black, circa '84). They got signed and put out this album after most everybody else, which really lessened its impact, and they ended up being "just another Sunset Strip band." "Paris Calling" got a bit of MTV airplay, but not much.
|From: Doghouse Reilly
||Date: May 28, 2014 at 21:34|
|The Axl Rose thing comes from Stephen Davis's book, Watch You Bleed, and as full of small mistakes as it is, the quote is from GnR's early manager Vicky Hamilton. As for Law Of The Order, it was one of those deals where, when the album failed to catch on, their Hollywood fans blamed it on the production not really representing how the band actually sounded. I guess guys like you (in France), and me (just a kid growing up on the East Coast at the time), we're never really gonna know.

|SHARK ISLAND s debut was an excellent hair metal release that had everything in the right measure !top class from start to finish ,with 3 big songs and the rest being pretty good,it will rock you for sure ,as it did with me when i bought the vinyl back in the day!unfortunately it didnt sell much ,but for us die hard fans this one is a cult release that stands the test of time
