A half assed effort from very talented musicians. This was the beginning of the end for Ratt. Everyone in the band was fighting and all the music was done seperately from the members and it shows. there is very little flow to this album. The songs that are good are tracks 2,6,9, and 10. Way Cool Jr is too commercial and the rest of the songs are just cheezy. I gave this a 6.0

I agree that this isn't the best Ratt album but what it did have was a sense of cool. This is what i mean when I complain about the likes of Rough Cutt and Dio. Ratt never wrote any crap about "Rocking hard" or "Black Widows". Stephen Pearcy couldn't sing for toffee but that didn't seem to matter.

I agree that the decline of Ratt starts with this album. Except "City To City" and "Way Cool Jr." the songs are boring. Don't expect too much from this one. If you find "Way Cool Jr" somewhere, even this may be enough...

'Reach For The Sky' and 'Detenator' are both awesome. Lyrically, they are just two of your average run-of-the-mill tongue-in-cheek late 80's/early 90's hard rock cds. Musically, they hit the spot. 'Dancing Undercover' was good, but it kind of lacks while I always found 'Reach For The Sky' to be mysteriously under-rated. Go out and buy all of RATT's cds with Crosby on them--even the E.P. You know, 'Out Of The Cellar', 'Invasion Of Your Privacy', 'Dancing Undercover', 'Reach For..', & 'Detenator'.

This is Ratt's only bad release from the glory days of metal. The only song worth listening to off of it is "I Want a Woman".

the cover is very cool..i always loved the cover. the song 'way cool junior' reminded me of Aerosmith. This isn't the best ratt album but it has it's magic moments (magic moments= warren and darren on guitar).the opening sounds in the song 'city to city' are also very unoriginal (many discs contain the exact sounds). I always compared this tune with 'wildside' from the crue, although 'wildside' is 10 times better ofcourse. I love this album,but it ain't my fave. rattnroll 4ever

Solo on "I want a woman" is the BEST i have ever heard, simply amazing.....I think it's a typical RATT album, some good songs some boring...

Boy do I love me some Damn RATT & ROLL!!! This album (like the rest of the band's catalog) is basically all Killer and NO Filler! Sleeper trax like "Chain Reaction", "No Surprise", "Bottom Line", "What's It Gonna Be", and "What I'm After" off the back half of this album are all great too, maybe even better than the "more famous" (well, as far as hits went) front side, which don't get me wrong is Great too! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, and this is probably my 3rd fav Ratt CD, which says a lot!!!

Loved this disc. I agree with The Ripper songs 8,9,10 are sweet tunes. I want a woman is arguably the best Ratt tune (Great tune to play cruising on a first date!!)Ratt and Roll Forever!!

Ratt certainly help add a certain toughness to the hair/glam/sleaze metal genre with this album. Unlike most glamor hair bands like bonjovi,poison or warrant,ratt's music is pure rocking sound. Ithink in term of heaviness,only WASP can compare to them from the hair/sleaze/melodic and pop metal genre.

What are you talking about ?? Ratt doesn't sound like WASP at all. Ratt were more like Poison or Dokken in term of heaviness. And the quality of Ratt is much better then WASP. WASP did it for the shock, Ratt actually tried to make music. The only thing i don't like about Ratt is that on the CDs, every song starts almost before the last one has stopped. Like they were afraid the songs wouldn't fit.

Dusty,you've got to be kidding? Take a listen to invasion of your privacy and out of the cellar,its much heavier than both look what the cat dragged in and underlock and key. Its almost as heavy as wasp's last command and inside the electric circus. I don't think ratt is better than wasp. MAybe they have more talented member in their team but wasp can deliver a kind of 'rocking' music that not many band can.

I agree with some of the others. By this time, Ratt had become lazy, able to turn out the good single, but unable to make a full album. "Way Cool Jr." is a nice change of pace and "I Want A Woman" is not too bad, but the rest is nothing special. 5/10

The sound may be a little bit heavier than Dokken or Poison, the feel of it is quite the same. Maybe it's because of Blackie Lawless' voice that it sounds a bit different to me, but anyway, that's how I feel about it. (and jack, you're right about WASP that they can deliver that rocking music, and I do like it from time to time, but for now, I prefer Ratt)

I Think that this Ratt cd is despised,because the others are better than this.In my opinion this cd is the worst Ratt cd,but it dont means that this cd is bad.Songs like Way cool Jr, and I want a woman,are great songs.If you like hard rock,you must love Ratt and If you Love Ratt you must love this album. 8,5/10

This was the first CD they tried to mix it up a bit, add a little variety. Unfortunately, this is the first CD I thought they had fillers on. I love 'I want a woman' - great commercial hard rock (Their obvious new direction) and although 'What I'm after' is lame, I do quite like it a lot. 'What's it gonna be' was my favourite Ratt song before 'Detonator', and overall it's a good CD, but the weakest of the albums so far, as an entire CD.

I liked this one as well, probably because I was out of the information loop at the time (May have been a good thing). Ratt were a no nonsense band of little compromise, and That's more than I can say of some bands at the time. Good album.

Ratt were a great band,but this was NOT a great album.Remember seeing the RFTS coverart and thinking-What the hell ?? Some greek statue holding his crotch and a big hand reaching for him ??? Anyway this was not definitive Ratt for me.(See the previous 4 records for that).This was "poppy-metal ratt" with no balls! Yet,all things considered and image aside they were still a metal act."City To City" however was a pretty nice tune ill give em that ...

Hey, being a HUGE Ratt ( I still got posters on my walls, tapes, LP, Cd )fan I got to recognize that this album is their worst ever, at least their worst of the 80's. I love the last 2 songs but "I Want To Love You Tonight" is the lamest song I've heard from them, laaaaazy It got no hooks, no punch, no Ratt no Roll!It's a shame they'd put out this at the time just in a time they needed a great album to revamp thier career, it was like a Kiss of Death for them, anyway "Detonator" is a return to t

At the time this album came out, i bought this for my friends older brother so he could laugh & throw it in his fireplace. But i still like it though it's not their best. Well, actually probably their worst from the 80's, though it does have a few cool tunes being "I Want A Woman" & "Way Cool Jr.".

Ratt got really sloppy and lazy just churning out songs to appease mainstream radio. "Way Cool Jr." and "I Want A Woman" are the hits here but neither would make it on to earlier albums. Lazy lazy lazy. And I believe this was the beginning of the end for Ratt as we knew them.

I agree with all the reviews here. This is definitely their worst album and the last one I got. The opener City to City is OK I suppose but it would never have made their earlier albums. I want a woman was the track that made me get this album as I thought the rest would be of this quality. Way Cool Jr sounds like an ego trip for DeMartini and has the cheesiest lyrics since Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet. The next two songs Don't Bite and I want To Love You are lyrically OK but the music just isn't there at all and I forget how they go as soon as the songs finish. The last four are average listenable rock with What's It Gonna Be being the highlight. It's interesting to note that except for Detonator, this is the first album where Robbin took a back seat in both song sriting and guitar playing and it shows. Warren just seems unable to write a good song.

probably the weakest album by this band. don't understand that it's bad. far from that, but I just wanna say that other albums they made from 83 to 91 were better. my faves here: I want a woman, way cool juniour, I wanna love you tonight, bottom line and chain reaction.

I agree with dokken6008 - underrated Ratt album. There are some fillers, but I find them on all other Ratt albums as well, but perhaps fewer on Cellar and Detonator. After in band battles hurting their tour, they needed another hit single after the killer "I want a woman" and classic Ratt groove song "Way cool jr" - they planned on releasing "What's it gonna be" as the third single and video, but unfortunately for some reason that never happened. That was a big mistake I think, cause that is one really good Ratt song with the right elements, and could have been a hit much needed (agreed Geoff, killer song). I think all Ratt 80s albums were great, and at least half of this album is excellent stuff as well, no doubt.

Quite so, I agree with last J. Wylder's sentence. The first six songs are above the rest. All in all the whole album is about classic L.A. heavy rock. It reminds me Motley Crue mainly, a little bit Twisted Sister or Slaughter (because of the vocals alike). A fine hors d'oeuvre before main "Detonator" dish. 80/100.

excellent release once again by the mighty RATT !the sound is polished and commercial,the musicianship astonishing as always and the songs really great!"i want a woman","way cool jr","bottom line" and "what it s gonna be" are fantastic songs and overall a great hair metal release!you cant go wrong with major bands of the genre!

I Want A Woman, Way Cool Jr., Chain Reaction, Bottom Line, and What I'm After rock. The rest is lame. This is RATT's weakest album but it's still better than much of the competition.
