Kick ass guitar playing. Awesome solos. Scott travis is an excellent drummer. He knows what double bass is.

All-Star line-up! From the band that was grossly overlooked by the mainstream metal media. Their rendition of Judas Priest's "Heart of a Lion" is well worth the price of this gem alone! Pick it up, you will not be disappointed! I agree with Steve, Scott Travis KNOWS double bass, that's what earned him the gigs with Fight & Judas Priest! 9.5 on the Rictor Scale, no joke.

All praise to this album!!! Buy this and hear some of the best musicians play together in one band. With Paul Gilbert's excellent tunes, I think that this album is as strong as Pyromania and Cocked and Loaded.

I was a beginner wanna be guitarist at the age of 16 in '86 when I bought this extreme "noise" as my Reo Speedoverboy-fan friends called it. I was forever "ruined" this was total devastation, I couln't believe what I was hearing it was mesmerizing and I was hooked to the point where I could see the notes floating and swirling around me, that made me practice hard, but alas we can't all be Paul Gilbert, I honor thee and thank Mr. Gilbert for opening my ears to what a real guitarist is capable of.

Damn I forgot how much this SMOKES! Incredible stuff if you're into incredibly good virtuoso metal kinda stuff. Their version of Moonage Daydream kicks. I love every damn song on this disc!

The vocals are rough as nuts but this is good solid hard rock / metal. 'Heart of a lion' and 'Living the hard way' are cool hard rockers, but bring out the tissues because my fave is the ballad, 'Sunlit nights'. Awesome metal ballad. Good solid melodic metal CD.

Paul Gilbert used to live in Las Vegas!!! Say him around occasionlly!! Really down to earth guy considering He is a GOD!!!! OverSeas, and in JAPAN. Instrumentaly, you cant ask for a better line-up ,Bruce Bouillet is fairly equally as Phenominal as Gilbert but is always in the shadow of Paul, and usually dosent get the credit he deserves!! My only complaint w/ Racerx is the singer is Horrible!!!! Take away the Vocals, and you have musical perfection!! also, Scott Travis is this centuries Nealprt.

I have been a fan of this band since they came about. Loved them then... love them still now. Am cranking out this album again as i type. Amazing shit. Will always remain one of the true classics of the days gone by and STILL sounds ace today. I'd like to see the new generation compete with this. No chance.

The poor man's Priest? This band's playing ability is undeniable as talent wise it ran circles around many bands that where signed on major labels at the time. Major fame eluded them with limited radio/MTV commercial appeal. PRE - Racer X Jeff Martin fronted a band by the name of Surgical Steel in Phoenix,AZ which put out more of a hook friendly melodic metal, but that band was never signed to any label to my knowledge. The band had 2 songs "Surrender" "Give me back my Heart" on a movie soundtrack for the cult classic 'Thunder Alley'. The soundtrack was never officially released when the movie came out in 1985. There is a Rob Halford connection with both bands on and off the stage. Don't ask, Don't tell. For clips of songs and live performance videos of Surgical Steel check out this link. http://www.myspace.com/surgicalsteelaz

As Blue Charvel wrote back in 2004..this album smokes!!! ...another show of talent and technique by Paul Gilbert and the rest of the musicians doing a great job too!!!...2 tracks that i like a lot are the very melodic ones "Hammer Away" & "Living The Hard Way" but also these ones "Sacrifice" which is a great song,"Scarified" a blasting instrumental track & "Motor Man" that rocks...another one to get if u don't have it...91/100

Wonderful technical speed metal here. My favourites have to be the instrumental Scarified, the headbanging Hammer Away with its catchy vocals and Motor Man but really, this is an album I can listen to again and again and never get bored. It's a shame the band had to go on hiatus after this because of a lack of interest and support from labels as this is Paul Gilbert and Bruce Bouillet in their element.
