Quiet Riot was my favorite band when I was a kid, so it represents to me something very special. This album is full of energy and its songs are just cool. 'Cum on feel the noise' always will be the heavy metal song of the 20th century. This album is one of my favorites. I´m from South América.

From: Rob Date: October 10, 2001 at 11:14
This one one of the first metal bands (maybe the first) to have a top 10 hit.

From: dokken6008 Date: April 2, 2002 at 15:20
Let's settle it right here: Quiet Riot & the media can call them or themselves metal all they want and you can too, but what it all comes down to is all that QR is is a hard rock band. Yes, they may sound different, have their own sound, distinction--whatever! These guys are NOT metal. Not being a huge metal fan myself, I still know what real metal is and this IS NOT IT. QR has one album that is titled w/ the word 'metal' in it & the next thing you know Poison & Def Leppard are heavy metal too.

From: Desslar Date: April 8, 2002 at 1:28
I don't think anyone has ever called QR 'metal.' They are pop metal pure and simple. That said, they rock!!! The debut is easily the best, and has one great song after another, pausing only for the boring 'Breathless.' Bang your head!!

From: Reno Date: April 16, 2002 at 22:57
My first Cassette ever!! Very classic and full of memories. I went and found original Slade recordings of Cum On Feel The Noize and Mama Weer all Crazee Now. What a kick in the head!! The lead singer sounds like Kevin DuBrow, but the music is more rock-n-rolly. Speaking of Kevin....When will he ever get rid of that hidious thing on his head. Are we supposed to be fooled?

From: TIM Date: April 22, 2002 at 22:57
I agree with SHAG. Quiet Riot was one of the 1st to get the '80s wheel turning. I saw QR a few years ago and they still sound excellent. No offence, but I'll never be tired of Bang Your Head. Overall, I think their 2nd album was a bit better.

From: Kim Date: April 29, 2002 at 15:23
..............I JUST LOVE THIS GROUP.....

From: SleazyMusic Date: May 6, 2002 at 9:53
I JUST HATE THIS BAND ridicolous...I'm sorry if you love it....I watch 'em and start laughing..... no offense ihihhiihihih

From: Reno Date: May 6, 2002 at 10:14
I laugh at Quiet riot sometimes also SleazyMusic, but they still are the ones that brought Hard Rock/Metal/Hairband into the top 10 back in 83 by booting Michael Jackson. Give them a little credit

From: Reno Date: May 6, 2002 at 12:29
Also, you can't deny that this cd brings back some good memories for your youth. What kid didn't like Bang Your Head or Cum On Feel The Noize?

From: richierocker Date: May 23, 2002 at 17:07
With their eponomyous effort, Quiet Riot reached the height of their commercial apex, circa 1983 with and unbeliveable onslaught of guitar and bass lines to keep you groovin all night , great vocals by Kevin and in my opinion Frankir Banali was one of the top 80's drummers of all time.

From: jason Date: June 9, 2002 at 21:29
I wonder what it would be like to be in a band who will only be remembered for a great cover song? Cum on feel the noize.

From: tman Date: June 20, 2002 at 16:47
My first tape. Definately a classic. Probably one of the most influental albums for hardrock/metal. This one really paved a way for this style of music to be accepted in mainstream.

From: jason (FA - Q) Date: August 4, 2002 at 17:49
Unreal...... I go up north to a friends cabin this weekend for a quiet little get away and guess what happens..... Saturday night we went to Cross Lake MN and saw Quite Riot playing a show at a little hick bar! It's the 2nd time I have seen them and it was $12 bucks to get in. It was a good time but man, are they old. Nice belly, Kevin!

From: jason (FA - Q) Date: August 4, 2002 at 17:56
We walked into the joint and nobody was on the dance floor. So, I went up by the stage and started 'rockin' out.' The next thing you know eveybody filled the dance floor. You could have put all those hicks in that bar together and you still wouldn't get a full set of teeth! The band must have been asking each other, 'Where in the hell are we?'

From: Purrfect Kat Date: August 4, 2002 at 20:56
oh my god that was funny what you said about their teeth.....well I guess those tree huggers won't be needing a dentist anytime soon....lol

From: TIM Date: August 31, 2002 at 13:25
Does anyone know why Paul Shortino is back with these guys? He wasn't bad but Kevin sounds a whole lot better. The whole band sounded dull compared to the time I saw them 5 years ago. They stole the show. They should have headlined instead of Dokken. Don wasn't sharp and John Norum just wasn't my cup of tea.

From: Reno Date: September 1, 2002 at 18:43
What TIM? Paul Shortino is back with Quiet Riot? When the hell did this happen?

From: Reno Date: September 1, 2002 at 19:57
I just talked to Andrew McNeice of melodicrock.com and he told me that Paul Shortino only filled in for a few gigs for DuBrow. He's back now though.

From: TIM Date: September 2, 2002 at 0:26
Thank God he hasn't left. They didn't sound the same without him. Even Vince Neil sounded better minus the rest of the Crue.

From: MALLORCA´S ROCK Date: December 3, 2002 at 8:43

WHAT IS ALL THIS BICKERING? THIS IS METAL - THAT AINT METAL - WHAT IS METAL--I'LL TELL YOU WHAT METAL IS - ITS UP TO THE PERSON CALLING IT METAL. METAL IS NOT A FORM OF MUSIC- IT IS FEELING OR A MOOD. I COULD SEE A GREAT BOXING MATCH OR HOCKEY FIGHT WITH 2 GUYS PUMMELING EACH OTHER AND I WOULD SAY THAT IS METAL - OR A HOT NAKED CHICK WEARING NOTHIN BUT A SMILE AND SOME SEXY SHOES - THAT IS DEFINITELY METAL!!! AND FOR THE RECORD QUIET RIOT IS METAL- AND THAT IS A FACT CAUSE I SAY SO.

From: VY Date: January 23, 2003 at 1:12
cool boys play cool music

From: Rycheage Date: February 1, 2003 at 23:42
One of the best hard rock efforts from the 80's. 'Metal Health' and 'Cum On Feel The Noize' are the obvious standouts but 'Breathless' and 'Slick Black Cadillac' rock. 'Love's A Bitch' is an awesome tune also. If you love 80's hard rock, you should have this.

From: greenmanelishi Date: February 15, 2003 at 16:15
THIS RECORD IS PART FROM MY LIFE AND MY HEART. I GREW WITH THIS ONE AND I'M A QUIET RIOT SINCE I WAS A CHILD. A MUST HAVE FOR EVERYBODY WHO WANTS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT'S ENERGY AND PARTY ATTITUDE IN MUSIC. QUALITY OVER ALL AND GREAT 80'S FEELING. METAL HEALH A VERY HEAVY METAL SONG IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES. ALSO SLICK BLACK CADILLAC ONE OF THE BEST SONGS I'VE EVER HEARD OF AMERICAN ROCK MUSIC. QUIET RIOT WILL ALWAYS BE ONE OF THE SACRED BANDS OF MY LIFE. LONG LIVE TO THE IRON MASQUE!! LONG LIVE QR!!

'I don't go around crying that I write BETTER reviews, but at least I review an album instead of trying to correct someone else's review' Hey SHAG, all you´ve done on this topic is correcting other people´s opinions!! Are you too stupid to see that?? Oh well, you´re not probably even here anymore.

Just one hell of a jaw dropping solo on 'Cum On Feel The Noise'!!!!!

From: byrdman69 Date: October 23, 2003 at 12:00
Wow! To be fourteen years old again............This album was really cool for the time it came out. A big commercial success, and loads of radio airplay. No, its not the greatest rock album of the time, but it held its own with those loud, pounding rock anthems and whailing guitars. While I would have to admit,it did not stand the test of time,it is in fact, good for the occasional trip down memory lane.

From: byrdman69 Date: October 23, 2003 at 12:10
............and by the way I would have to classify their style as 80's hair metal,or hard rock. Heavy Metal to me back then would have been Iron Maiden, Judas Priest,or Black Sabbath!!!

From: 80s fan Date: December 2, 2003 at 10:57
First heavy metal band to have a #1 album (1983). That's history.

From: Mika Date: December 21, 2003 at 6:05
Quiet Riot definitely started something AND they had a sound of their own. The production was good, as well. One of the best hair bands ever

From: Great Dane Date: December 21, 2003 at 9:31
Huh....did they ever have a hit of their own.?

From: C. Pterodactilu Date: February 3, 2004 at 20:45
All I can say is...Excellent. Every song in this album simply kicks the shit out of your ass, except Thundebird. The Cumonfeelthenoise video(and I saw it back in 83) made me buy the record. I know they never had a single hit of their own (mamma weer all crazee now, Cumon feelthenoise...) but they took those songs another level. Long Live the Riot

From: drummerfish Date: February 22, 2004 at 6:55
we all know this cd is one of the best cd's of all time.1st metal album to hit #1,and well, the rest is history.sorry for kevin bad mouthing everyone.i've been fortunate to be aquainted w/ frankie since 95.he's is exactly what i expectedne of the most down to earth & coolest guys ever.glad to know one of my drumming influences isn't a stuck up prick.too bad kevin started doing drugs again which lead to the recent breakup-again.they just released a cd/dvd and were in the black.

QUIET RIOT....una de las mejores bandas de heavy de los 80's.I'm from Peru ,and Q.R. still rockin'...CUM ON FEEL THE NOIZE,GIRLS AND BOYS!!!....ONE HOT BAND,ONE COOL BAND,JUST A KRAZY GUYS.

From: jack Date: May 28, 2004 at 2:27
This album reminds me of wasp's fk like a beast album, except this is much better. This album is pure heavy metal, not melodic metal in my opinion.Cum on feel the noize is probably the greatest metal anthem of all time and metal health is almost just as good. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the best metal album of all time.No comparison! No competition!Rating:10/10

From: Rockhead Date: May 28, 2004 at 4:33
I tried to listen to this CD a few days ago-and couldn't. This has not aged well. The production sounds dated and the songs simplistic in the extreme. The best track is a cover version (and IMO not as good) and the playing-well Carlos cavazo is hardly G.I.T. 'Loves A Bitch', 'Run For Cover' and 'Breathless' still sound ok, but the rest-uh uh. BTW Did WASP release an album called F**k like a beast? Is this the best Metal Album of all time-not even close.

From: jack Date: May 28, 2004 at 4:45
To.Rockhead,Fk like a beast is wasp's first album.this is the album that made wasp the most 'evil' and 'sick' band to ever grace the earth.poison got the girls, motley got the sales but wasp got the name tag! Rockhead, you should try this album, its extremely good! And about metal health being the best metal album of all time,i might be wrong but thats my opinion anyway!peace..

From: Rockhead Date: May 28, 2004 at 5:37
W.A.S.P's 1st album was called W.A.S.P and originally didn't even include Animal on the tracklisting. Animal was independantly released by MFN as a 12' single as Capitol would not release either the single or the album if the track was included. Animal was only later added to the remastered version along with Show No Mercy (original B Side) and Paint It Black (B Side of School Daze). Having followed W.A.S.P since their beginnings and having seen them many times I DO know this album.DO you?

From: jack Date: May 28, 2004 at 6:18
Wow,Rockhead you are just as a wasp fanatic as i am and you know more about wasp than i do!Thanks for the info above though!

From: Rockhead Date: May 28, 2004 at 6:24
No I am not a fanatic-but i do own the albums so sharing the correct information does help.

From: Rockhead Date: May 28, 2004 at 9:30
Good times indeed Blue. These types of album are as much about memories and the time as much as the actual music. I loved this when it came out. But unfortunately no more!! I am more bemused over the growth of hair Dubrow wears these days. He was almost bald when this album came out (LOL) Rug of the year along with Mark Reale

From: Big Papa K Date: June 27, 2004 at 23:37
So this is the album that helped make metal big. Too bad it had to be them instead of more deserving acts. Outside of the Slade cover and the title track, their is just a lot of average hair metal. Important for historical purpose more than quality. 5/10

From: love metal Date: July 21, 2004 at 20:00
This may have been my first metal album and yes i will call them metal. I remember playing air guitar and screaming along with this one. Haven't listen to in a long time, but have listened to the newer ones and i think they stayed pretty much the same. Love 'breathless' and 'love's a bitch'.

Dokken 6008, I agree wholeheartedly. The term Heavy metal was being tossed around by people like Sammy Hagar, and record stores tried to categorize and ended up screwing it up. This band was in your face but definitely hard rock. Rudy complemented these guys nicely. They could crank at any party, any time. Great piece of work.

Ahh yes, part of the glorious Class of 1983 which included Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Dokken, Journey, Dio, Schenker, Van Halen and many others. My sophomore year of High School, and what a year it was!

original 80's rock album that started it all. more metal sounding that pretty much anything else they ever did. how come at the begining of the 80's the top bands ratt, dokken, w.a.s.p., quiet riot, motley crue, van halen, ozzy osbourne, def leppard, twisted sister all sounded more in the metal genre and by the mid 80's they all had moved towards hair metal? go figure that most of the bands i just named were done before the 90's started except motley crue, def leppard and ozzy but they were lite

This is very good album.Theres my fav. song(my fav. more than 10 years)on it-"bang your head(metal health)"!!!Slades cover"cum on feel the noize"is another true gem."Slick black cadillac"is great fast rocker."lifes a bitch"has very depresive title-but its great."Lets get crazy"is another classic of that band-but played alive kicks ass better than studio version. This band knows how to act on stage. Quiet riot-awsome name for hard rock/heavy metal band.

Excelent album that gave the band the status of "MEGA STARS",i remenber when they toured the world supporting this album and they were supposed 2 perform in my country Venezuela but they didn't come until they released their Critical Condition album (that's another masterpiece!)but anyway, talkin' about the album songs such as "Metal Health","Slick Black Cadillac" the electrifying guitar solo of "Battle Axe" and of course their version of Slade's "Cum On Feel The Noize" makes this album a must have 2 every self respected rocker.90/100

Classic Hard Rock! my comment in spanish from 2002 was deleted but NP! One of my first Hard Rock Cassettes when i was a little Phoenix in the lates 80's! Now listening this Classic album in the CD remastered edition with the bonus "Danger Zone" a very good track & "Slick Black Cadillac (live)", "Cum on Feel the Noize" was a very good song to me but not "The Song", maybe the hit for the most of people, personally my Super favs always and forever will be Metal Health (My Second fav), Breathless (The Song! My Total Number 1) Run For Cover (OMG I Love the style here) and of course Let's Get Crazy what a times! a part of my life! Classic! 90/100.

Great album. My only complaint is of the closer Thunderbird which is a bit boring. Favourites are Breathless, Cum on Feel The Noize, Run For Cover and Metal Health. It has a raw edge to it, rather like Blizzard of Ozz and the singing is an acquired taste I think but it's still excellent once gotten into.

From: Auslander Date: May 5, 2021 at 4:15
I don't consider this the best release of 1983 in the world of hard rock (that is Pyromania by Def Leppard), but it is the most important. Quiet Riot managed to break the ceiling for 80s style hard rock, and basically everyone from the Strip followed behind them. The Slade cover, Slick Black Cadillac and especially Metal Health are the standout tracks. Unfortunately the d-head antics of DuBrow really tarnished their rightful place in the pantheon of the glory Years of hard rock (1982-1992), but their achievement on this album should not be overlooked. Grade A.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: May 6, 2021 at 14:04
Auslander: did you notice how little Def Leppard pops up in Nothin' But A Good Time? Phil Collen has a few quotes about other bands and guitar-playing in general, and various people mention Leppard in passing, and that's all. I know the guys don't like the association and maybe didn't want to participate, so perhaps the authors chose to minimize them because of that? It seems odd, since that band had two of the biggest-selling albums of the decade, not just for hard rock. This is probably the wrong place for this tangent, so I'll justify the post by adding that for me, Metal Health hasn't aged all that well. Part of it has to be Spencer Proffer's very dated production, but I think there's just something about their style of playing or songwriting that become obsolete pretty quickly. I got into hard rock in 1988, and it was extremely rare to hear even the two hits from this album, at least up until radio stations started having specialty shows that focused on "hair-metal" around 1997.

I did notice that. It was obvious because when they were talking sales figures (often) it would have made sense to talk about the Leps. But, Bon Jovi were also rarely discussed, other than when referenced by Skid Row. In the last pages of the book they mention about a dozen bands they interviewed whom they left out. I would be really interested in what they had to say. Maybe if the book sells well they will do a part 2? We can only hope!

Excellent album for QUIET RIOT back in 83 that became a classic of the scene mostly cause of the success of "metal health" and "cum on feel the noise" !Strong rhythm section,Kev s vocs quite rough and Tony s solid performance along with anthemic songs put Metal Health in the charts and set things for what was about to happen

If you think about the fact that the band (they said it in several interviews) reluctantly after pressure from the label recorded the Slade cover song, then... BANG, that cover is a HUGE hit and album sells millions. Just stunning. Not that it is a bad album, but production (esp drums) is muddy, quite horrible to be honest so agree with Doghouse R, sounds dated today. Title track is fine, and a few more, but also plenty fillers. If album had sold gold, that would still have been a success. But 6 M in USA alone, that's a lottery win! Rudy Sarzo in 2019: "I thought we might sell 50,000 albums, which was the watermark for a young band to make a new record." Next album seemed rushed, or they never were good writers to begin with, thus reviews of CC were very bad. In 1983, other popular albums in the US were Bark at the moon (3 M sold), Maiden's Piece of mind (1 M), Mötley (4 M), just for a little comparison. Songwriting does make a difference in the long run. Rudy left again Jan '85..

Gotta love the late Kevin DuBrow...he'd talk sh!t and slam away on the bigger bands without fear of retribution and unlike a lot of musicians these days rarely apologized for any of it.The current climate in the music industry is that most are a buncha pussies that never want to stand by what they say.The slightest bit of criticism and they crumble.'Metal Health' still sounds good cranked!

The first heavy metal album to go to #1 in the USA. This album is good and Quiet Riots best. I would say this album and about half of Condition Critical are real good but other then that Quiet Riots discography is not very good. With just a handful of songs outside of MH and CC being any good at all. The title track is one of my all time favorite metal songs ever and I still love it to today.
