March 18, 2020: Annual Donation Drive Postponed

With everything going on in the world right now, people have more important concerns and priorities to deal with, so I am postponing the annual Heavy Harmonies Donation Drive until later in 2020. Stay safe everyone! -Dan

If you see any errors or omissions in the CD information shown above, either in the musician credits or song listings (cover song credits, live tracks, etc.), please post them in the corrections section of the Heavy Harmonies forum/message board.

The music discographies on this site are works in progress. If you notice that a particular The Runaways CD release or compilation is missing from the list above, please submit that CD using the CD submission page. The ultimate goal is to make the discographies here at Heavy Harmonies as complete as possible. Even if it is an obscure greatest-hits or live compilation CD, we want to add it to the site. Please only submit official CD releases; no bootlegs or cassette-only or LP-only releases.

EPs and CD-singles from The Runaways are also welcome to be added, as long as they are at least 4 songs in length.

I remember that they were in trouble when they hit Japan first time.Cherie became very famous with her underwear, then other members were jelous and started saying we would do the same on stage.

Creem Magazine, April 1977: "These bitches suck." Some of us are (barely) old enough to remember that epic dismissal, and it's not any less potent today. Stoner Band revisionism would have us believe the Runaways were actually "ahead of their time" and other rationalizing horseshit that fans use to justify their devotion to this sloppy, sludgy affair. I was never impressed. But if I were forced (say, at gunpoint) to choose a favorite Runaways release, I'd pick this for its consistency. They amply straddle the line between Punk and Garage Rock with a touch of Suzi Quatro Glam boogie (although Suzi really could play), with a sonic quality similar to Starz' debut (but nowhere near the greatness of that band). The standout is probably "Rock N Roll" (more cowbell!), but there's also some pretty terrible shit here too ("Lovers," "Blackmail"). Just don't think you're going to be in for anything resembling accomplished musicianship and you'll probably feel better about the experience. 50 / 100
