Simply the best record i've heard in years.Jizzy's voice touched me with strenght and all songs are just great. It became fastly my favorite band and to me that band is the best exemple for Los Angeles 80 ' rock scene.Buy you won't make any regrets

Totally agree with Magwa... NO COMPROMISE ! In this album there's no Poison, D'Molls or Pretty Boy Floyd influences...It's only ROCK AND ROLL...the way it was meant to be.... Raw-Loud-StreetWise.... Songs like 'Mary Jane' or 'Why do you think...' weren't poppy like 'I want action'.... Oh, Love/Hate....the first two albums were WONDERFUL.... sleazymusic@yahoo.it

These guys had one thing that most other bands were sorely deficient in: ATTITUDE!! And I'm not talkin' about kickin'-over-a-chair-in-yer-video-and-callin'-it-attitude-like-Roxx Gang-style attitude, I mean ATTITUDE!!!! Every lyric and every note in every song conveys this attitude, and I love it! Just the right dose of punk rock in the glam metal mix made for something special indeed! This CD is one of the very few L.A. glam CDs that wasn't cheesy and could be taken seriously!!

Yeah I agree with people here absolutely. One of the few L.A. bands at the time where even people who didn't dig that scene loved this album. AC/DC meets the Stooges meets Motley. The crappy thing with these guys though was where do you go from this?? Put this cd on now in 2002 and tell me it doesn't sound just as new and fresh as it did back then!!

One of coolest songs on this album is "Rock Queen." How can you beat lyrics like "Let me touch your cookies-Let me eat your cookies." I think these boys are more sleaze than glam, and thats one reason I like 'em! Other notables on this CD are "Blackout", "Tumbleweed", "Why Do You Think.....", and "Hell,CA.,Pop.4" No opinions on how to save the childern or the world here, just fun sleaze-rock!

Although there are a few high points on the other albums, this one shines just for the balls out energy from the beginning of song 1 to the end of song 12. I always forget how good this disc is until I put it in my CD player and I get the urge to start running people off the road.

This is pure, unadulterated sleaze, and not the romanticized, suburban-kid-just-got-off-the-bus-in-L.A. kind of sleaze either. The lyrics to this are damn gritty at times, and that's a good thing. Skid has a nifty, funky flair to his basswork. But have you ever noticed that Jizzy comes closest to sounding like a girl as you're likely to hear? "I'd like to introduce you to my fifth, that's who I'm with!" VERY feminine inflection on a few of his vocals. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

I loved this album when it came out, and still do. It remains THE best album from that decade (yes, I include it in the 80's) that was ever released...perhaps one of the best EVER of this type of music...it just don't get any better!

The Guns may have introduced us to street life, but Love/Hate provide the interactive experience. I'm talking grittier than a crack whore handjob! This is what pop metal should have evolved into, not Jackyl. Every song just rips with urgency, energy, and questionable intentions. Closest to the Wildhearts in true give a phuck attitude. Sometimes something is too good. The public wanted Warrant and got Warrant. Undeniably brilliant, mean, and dangerous.

Another one of my favorites. I've been a Love/Hate fan ever since they played the halftime show on Roller Games. My friend's dad was watching with us and he said they made him tired just watching them. Jizzy did the vocals on the L.A.Guns "Shrinking Violet" CD. That one is high on my list also. check it out.

Nothing else to say about L/H except that they trully kill (especially the 2 first albums...the 3rd one too but less). All I want to say is that I almost divorced my wife after she let me go buy the fucking LA Guns cd "Shrinking Violet" 'cause it is really a big piece of shit...

All I have to say is: WHO IN THE FUCK DO YOU KNOW THAT HUNG THEMSELVES FROM THE "Y" IN THE FAMED HOLLYWOOD SIGN? I'll tell you who: JIZZY PEARL. He was a fucking maniac. You should read his book. It's thoroughly funny and entertaining as well. Blackout In The Red Room is second only to Priest's Living After Midnight as a party metal anthem. Other highlights include but are not limited to Rock Queen, Slutsy Tipsy and Why Do You Think They Call It Dope. It's party time, indeed.

Another under-rated classic, but anybody who's heard it knows how good this band was. One of the best shows I ever saw in my life was Love/Hate in a tiny dump in New Jersey that probably held 100 people, with no real stage, just a drum riser, and yet Love/Hate blew the roof off the joint like they were headlining the Garden. Jizzy should quit wasting his time in that Ratt cover band and patch things up with Skid to do more Love/Hate records...

I recently saw him live in Barcelona with Adler's Appetite, you know Steve Adler's band and he's still a great frontman and singer although I almost didn't hear him because all of us in the audience were singing GNR songs so loud Does anybody know if they released some live VHS or something?

The second greatest sleaze metal album of the era (after "Appetite For Destruction"). Tracks like "Blackout In The Red Room", "Fuel To Run" and "She's An Angel" are outstanding. An album that will gain more respect for itself an an overlooked classic in the future. 10/10

Love/Hate are the scary friends your mom wouldn't let in the house. With an attitude that says "I'm-gonna-screw-your-girlfriend-and-drink-your-last-Budweiser-and-you're-not-gonna-do-a-@#$%-thing-about-it", this car wreck of an album makes waste case metal not only dynamic but hummable. Try NOT to sing along with any of the first three cuts and you'll see what I mean. If you like your music dangerous and dirty yet memorable and hook-laden, then this CD is a must have. 10/10.

Awesome review, Jimbo. I agree with the majority of it, just not the 10/10 part. Whilst it's a great album I wouldn't give it anywhere near that high. I love the title track and 'Straight jacket' most, but this a killer hard rock CD!

Ya know, Geoff, the day I wrote that review I was really irritated about something and Love/Hate scratched the itch. Maybe 10/10 is a bit high on a normal day, but I can say with confidence that if you like GnR or Junkyard and bands of that ilk, this one will blow you away. Can we agree on a solid 9/10?

Ohmigod this is the ultimate! 30 odd minutes of ball breaking, house wrecking mad rock n roll. 'Fuel to Run', 'She's an Angel' and 'Straightjacket' are defining moments in rock n roll. I'd give this 11/10 if it was mathematically possible. They lost the plot after this debut though and the only other song worth checking out is 'Painkiller' (off Wasted in America) which is awesome.

From: Jimbo |

Lennie, the song from "Wasted in America" you're thinking of is called Tranquilizer, which is indeed a choice slab of over-medicated metal and one of my favorite tunes by the band.

Another overlooked classic sleaze hard rock classic. "blackout"is very short, but it kicks ass from the beginning till the end."rock queen"is my fav."Tumbleweed"has pretty nice groove."Why Do You Think They Call it Dope? "is very good and melodic. Another 2 that i recommend to you all are "slutsy tipsy" and "mary jane". Great stuff-should have been more famous.

Genius!!!!, inventing a sound and style all of their own with more attitude and balls than most of the LA hairbands put together this rocks from start to finish without a filler in sight..from the artwork and the kick ass opener `blackout in the redroom` this doesn't disappoint, the only puzzling thing is why didn't LOVE/HATE become huge? without doubt a classic release that should be mandatory for any metalhead or glamfiend 9/10

This isn't your typical Hollywood-metal album, for sure. Love/Hate brings some funky bass, different arrangements, and an offbeat sense of humor. Don't misunderstand me when I say it, but in some ways, this CD almost has an alternative feel to it, in that it takes your basic Sunset Strip formula and turns it on its ear, and I know more than one person who normally doesn't like what they snidely refer to as "hair metal," that likes this disc. My favorites are all the singles, but also the overlooked "Tumbleweed," "Slutsy Tipsy" and "Straitjacket."

This is what sleaze metal sounds like. I love it. Like Guns N' Roses without the polish and egos, meets Skid Row at their most pissed off. I especially love the "Why do You Think They Call it Dope" song. I remember seeing it on "Countdown" when it came out, but only looked up after the band title had already disappeared. Took me ages to find out who the band was, lucky the chorus never left my brain! I will NEVER part with this cd, it is an essential item for my collection.

I know I already picked Firehouse as the best party-rock album of 1990, and I'm going to try not to do honorable mentions, but Blackout In The Red Room is most deserving. Being honest, I listen to this disc way more than Firehouse these days, but it was completely under my radar when I was younger. My comments from 2009 still ring true. You can tell the guys listened to a pretty wide variety of music besides just the usual set of influences, as they don't really sound like any other Sunset Strip band. The lyrics follow suit—drenched in sex and alcohol, but with a really self-aware, cynical sense of humor that holds them a little apart from the scene. "Mommy takes the strings off your bass so you won't hang yourself," Jizzy sings about a troubled young girl, in one of the album's many bizarro lines. "Rock Queen" should be really offensive in 2021, but it's quite obviously tongue-in-cheek, unlike, say, Winger's "Seventeen." It's not surprising people didn't quite know what to do with Lov

All I can say is I wholeheartedly agree with Doghouse on this one. Blackout in the Red Room is the best sleaze rock of 1990. I remember seeing the film clip for "Why Do You Think They Call It Dope" once (they never played it again) and being obsessed straight afterwards to find the album. I still don't know if the song is pro or anti drugs. All I know is that this album seemed dangerous somehow when I was 14, like listening to it was transporting me to a place where girls were dirty and guys were sleazy and nothing was ok. Man I hate grunge now. This should have been the sound of the future. Best sleaze of 1990 and still holds up to this day. Grade A.

all praise from the above comments is justified and correct... This shit is real! Probably not the album to de-tangle the Metal, Glam, Punk, Alternative, Rock landscape of 1992, but put it all in the Kool-Aid and drink from the cup (or grab some garden hose and a Gatorade bottle and smoke it). Some 32 years later none of it's potency or urgency have diminished. The songs and performances continue to throw up the creativity, raw talent and authenticity of Love/Hate. The album is as much as it is about drugs as it isn't. Favorite tracks are??? the whole album... but if you need convincing Blackout in A Red Room, Rock Queen & Hell, CA, Pop. 4 are just as good a place to start as any.
