brilliant glam sleeze that has a true rock n roll heart, alot of glam bands didn't measure up but this band and album are top quality. Must buy for any rock fan.

"House of Pain" can rival any cowboy ballad that Poison, Bon Jovi or Cinderella carried in their saddlebags, but, unfortunately, the sleaze gets a bit thick by the end of the album. "Where There's a Whip, There's a Way" is okay, but the overall standard of this CD is low.

I like their self proclaimed eponomyous effort in 1987 much better. There are some strong points in this album, like SLIP OF THE TONGUE, and WHERE THEIRS A WHIP, THERES A WAY. HOUSE OF PAIN. Im not a huge fan of the POISON IVY song but it still does rock. A sold album. But get the one before this.

House of Pain is one of the greatest ballads ever, but the rest of this album is an exercise in mediocrity. There are a couple of tolerable songs, but for the most part it's not terribly catchy and the vocals are annoying.

I thought this was much better than their debut. All the songs are memorable. Great writing all the way through. Their best album.

YEAH, SUPER ALBUM. Even as soon as the first song starts to play, a sudden improvement in their music is extremely felt when compared with the first. Their GREATEST album and one of my long-time favourites. There is some punk or some underground element here. Guitars sound better than the first. Nitrodoll, I see but although it's of a different type, believe me that "Whipped" also deserves some appraisal. Not bad but somewhat a different "out-of-the-way" effort which is not that disappointing.

More mature than the debut. More bluesy and dark, I love this cd...Taime's voice is perfectly trashy... This record shows how Faster Pussycat's not just another glam band with make up and boots and poor songs.... good, good, really good record...Buy or die

THe album is just about over after "Slip of the Tongue," except for the last two rather weird tracks. Not consistently good through and through. I like the sass of "Gonna Walk," (even if it's a first cousin to "Poison Ivy"), and the nifty harmonica in "House of Pain," but "Slip of the Tongue" is tops by far. There's also something intriguing about the country parody "Arizona Indian Doll."

i only liked this cd cause it was much more mature than the first one.alot heavier,yet solid."ain't no way" is the best groove on the record.anyone remember when and why the drummer got arrested during this time? fyi: as of a few months ago,brett is playing the club circut with l.a. guns.

THis album is much better and heavier than the first. Also more mature: whereas the first album talk a lot crap,this one concern more about 'other stuff'. House of pain sounds like a country+hard rock ballad but its very good,almost as good as don't know..(cinderella). Anyway,what is more significant is their originality. i would not say this album is very original but at least its not aeromith, cinderella,poison or gun'n'roses music type!

The album is a little more polished this time around and the songwriting becomes a little tiresome on the rockers. "House Of Pain" is an incredible ballad, worth the purchase of this album alone. 6/10

I agree also here. "House Of Pain" is worth the price of admission. The rest is a mish-mosh of sleaze glam that one cannot tell the difference from one track from another.

I actually think this is really quite a good disc. They stepped up musically and this is a much fuller, ballsier sounding album. And there are some damn cool songs here, not always to my direct liking, but pretty damn good either way. The opener is great, as is 'Poison ivy' and 'Ain't no way around it', but there's not really anything too bad on it. And surprise suprise, I agree that 'House of pain' is really as good as ballads get - just a sensational track.

Stellar record. Odd time signatures in the end of "Little Dove" show how much groove these guys had. A cut above the rest of the bands around that metal scene. They were pretty bitchin' live too. I met Taime Downes outside the Viper Room in La a few years ago. He was spinning records. I'd like to see more records like this from these guys. Not a DJ.

Wake When It's Over....I wish I had fallen asleep but unfortunately I listened to the whole disc. Let me tell you, I have to doubt the credibility of some the reviews above. This album is a total shit sandwich. The songs are just crap, its really as simple as that. The style is ok but the music sounds stripped back and really needs more guitars. Not that would save this album...there is nothing catchy here at all. Listen if you dare.

I've just read in "bang Your head" that this album was a big chart success. It's hard to argue with the facts but I'm going to anyway because this album is a total sh1t sandwich.

important release for hard rock music by FASTER PUSSYCAT.this is nearly perfect for me.john jansen in production delivers the sound and the band seems more professional but sleazy and "hairy" at the same time.excellent songwriting with hard rockin bombs like "slip of the tongue","where there s a whip there s a way", and the great attitude in "tatoo",a'little dove".there is also the big ballad "house of pain" which was a pleasure for me seeing it every hour in mtv.this is a top class band in its biggest moment and im just a lucky man who lived it in its time.long live the pussycat!

I was very excited to be getting this because the first album is still one of my favourites of the genre and better than Guns N' Roses in my opinion. Anyway I was disappointed with this. I've listened to this many times in an attempt to get into it and I still can't. Wake Me seems to last too long, and I can't even remember how the second track goes. Poison Ivy is my favourite but it's still nowhere near as good as anything from the first album. House of Pain is the most dreary ballad I've ever heard. The feeling is there but it sounds like they could've pulled it off a bit better. The rest of the album is forgettable with none of the memorable solos or riffs from the first album. Arizona Indian Doll is memorable because it has some strange keyboards though. Anyway, disappointed.

This is a fairly good disc, and a bit more "advanced" than the debut, but sometimes, the band's ideas outrun their talent. So we get some strange funky tunes like "Pulling Weeds" and some ass-dragging bluesy songs like "Cryin' Shame," the weirdly catchy country parody "Arizona Indian Doll," and the completely forgettable "Please Dear." They've always had their own identity, though, so that's something, and their warped sense of humor is still in place. But a lot of times, their music is held back by Taime's voice, which is pretty one-dimensional, and not very effective when the songs try to branch out. My favorites would be "Where There's A Whip," "House Of Pain" (very well-thought-out solo with something to say, and I always liked the addition of the harmonica), "Gonna Walk," and especially "Slip Of The Tongue," easily the best song here, and one that best sums up what the band is about.

In agreement with Doghouse Reilly...a bit more "advanced" than the debut..but somehow it kept the same line in some songs...best tracks 4 me were "Pulling Weeds" & "Slip Of The Tongue" but also there are some interesting songs such as the rocking "Ain't No Way Around It","Little Dove","Poison Ivy" & the very nice "House Of Pain"...for fans only...87/100

Not really a big difference to their first one, so -for me- it's a very good one. Still listening to it after all this years. If you are into sleazy rock you should have it.

Faster Pussycat certainly were not hurt by the fact that Taime Downe was a friend, business partner and one-time roommate of the guy who happened to host the biggest (only) metal showcase on music television. I know Riki Rachtman has claimed he had little or no control over what videos were played on Headbangers' Ball, but it's hard to imagine he didn't grease the wheels a little bit. (Along those same lines, why did "No Rain" by Blind Melon get so much airplay on the Ball, if not for the singer being Axl's buddy?) In any case, Faster Pussycat runs the L.A. Guns playbook by following up a fairly one-dimensional debut with a much more diverse (and much longer) sophomore release. I mean, it might just be two more songs, but in terms of time, it's like a full album side longer. Also like LAG, though the debut has its own ragtag, trashy charm, I find this album a more satisfying listen overall, especially when I'm not drinking.

There are songs about sluts, bonage, stalkers, drugs, dying young—and oh yeah, getting a vasectomy (at least that's what I think "Pulling Weeds" is about). Taime apparently had a tough time writing a ballad, and what he finally came up with is rather unusual for the time; an absentee father is not typical hair-band fare by any means, and yet "House Of Pain" doesn't come off all preachy and White Lion-like. And a harmonica makes anything better!
