I rememeber dancin and crying of happiness and I get a big happy smile on my face when I hear it.Of course Ive all the new re-released cd's and all kinds of bootlegs(video/cd/vinyl) many tv concerts. The bigggest collection of all-the ultimate godz of metal MOTLEY FUCKIN CRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

|This album is much different than the previous 'Shout at the Devil'!! Shout was straight forward, all-out metal!! Theatre is a basic hard rock album with a hint of blues!! It's a good album, but if you expected Shout at the Devil 2, you were really disappointed!! Smokin' in the Boys Room & Home Sweet Home were awesome!!! This was a good album, but very weak compared to Shout & the others!!!!

|For the crue this is an average album. If this were any other band 'Theatre' would be very good .
||Date: February 5, 2002 at 14:17|
|I thought this album was ok but not great. I might have liked this cd more if I heard it before the awesome SHOUT AT THE DEVIL,DR.FEELGOOD, or GIRLS,GIRLS,GIRLS. Overall the songs are good but nothing special (HOME SWEET HOME being the exception). It seems to me they were capable of a lot more. 7.5 out of 10.

|Girls, limos and machine guns Motley are' The Sleaze Factor'!The Gutter Rock Starz. What could you say about this band that has not already been said?I dedicate 'Home Sweet Home' to my long lost friend 'Pete',(R.I.P.!)and I dedicate my rating of '10' to The Sleaze Patrol,you know how you are.

|I THINK THAT THIS ONE COULD HAD BEEN BETTER
||Date: April 23, 2002 at 10:31|
|Seriously and I love Motley but the only Crue album to me that doesn't stand the test of time. Sounded like they didn't give a shit about it and fortunately for them in 85' could get away with that. I just hope this isn't some young rockers intro to the Crue in 2002. I'll still take this over 'Generation Swine' any day though.
||Date: May 6, 2002 at 9:37|
|Theatre of pain definitely opened the Rock Heaven's Doors for the Motleys... It's more hard rock than Shout at the Devil...but it's the weakest record by Motley Crue, I think... Smokin' and Home sweet home are awasome and Use it or lose it is good too but the other songs... The band seems to be too fucked up to record a kickass album.... but I fuckin' love the lyrics....dirty, sleazy words from the dirtiest voice of glam rock: Vince Neil I gave it 7
||Date: June 26, 2002 at 8:57|
|This album Is decent. My fave on the album is 'Keep your eye on the Money' 'Louder than Hell' is good to. I like this album but I feel like they were too fucked up to record this album. Its a great album but not their best.

|This is without doubt the best Motley Crue album. Its's continued the ultra-heavy sound of it's precursor but is more varied and coherent. It's got a fast cut-throat song(use it or...),headbang-friendly songs (Keep your eye...,Tonight,Fight for your rights)slow groovy songs(S.O.S,Louder than hell)and a resting point between all the heavy violence(Home sweet home). My least favourite is Smokin in the boys room. That was a cover of Brownsville Station and they are total crap.
||Date: March 24, 2003 at 5:25|
|Actually, I thought Brownsville Station's version was a lot better. This is mediocre Crue at best. Except for 'Home Sweet Home', the songs had no lasting effect on me. GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS was a vast improvement over this.

|For those of us weaned on Circus, Hit Parader & Kerrang back in the Eighties....we were promised prior to the release of 'TOP' that it would be 'harder, faster, nastier' than anything they'd done to date. Judging by the fact they were following two jugular-slashing albums, the wait was almost too much. Image the disappointment when TOP arrived. C'mon, Home Sweet Home?...a ballad? The Crue sold out to the Commercial World with this one and never got their 'edge' back.

|Yeah we all should have had a clue when they went from leather to lace in the pinups but what the hell--it had a pentagram on the cover so it must rock...right?? Still its another one of those albums from back in the day you would always hear playing in the background of parties while you drank that warm schlitz your friend's older brother's girlfriend's mom bought for you. Memories...
||Date: May 15, 2003 at 15:10|
|WELL THIS WAS MOTLEY CRUE BECOMING OFICIALLY COMMERCIAL. MTV WAS THE PLACE TO BE,AND SPANDEX WAS HIP. THIS DISC TOOK A MAJOR TURN,AND THE RESULT WAS AN AVERAGE ROCK RECORD,WITH TWO COMMERCIAL HITS,ONE A COVER SONG,AND THE OTHER A BALLAD. THATS NOT TO SAY I DISLIKE THE SONGS, IT WAS JUST A BIG DEPARTURE FROM 'SHOUT', AND 'TO FAST FOR LOVE,WHICH I WAS HOOKED ON FROM DAY ONE. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THE BETTER CRUE DISCS, BUT ITS NOT TOTAL CRAP EITHER.
||Date: August 21, 2003 at 14:05|
|Why isn´t Smoking in the Boys Room mentioned in the track listing???
||Date: August 22, 2003 at 9:33|
|A fucking great cd (like all Mötley's 80s cds)
||Date: October 1, 2003 at 12:25|
|To be honest, I didn't like this album. My favorites on this one are SMOKIN' IN THE BOYS ROOM, HOME SWEET HOME, and LOUDER THAN HELL. The other songs are o.k., but not better than the songs I mentioned. They did 2 great albums before this one. But what happened on this one? Lack of inspiration? A really bad producer? Weren't they drunk enough (hahah)? Vince's tragic memory of that night that his buddy from HANOI ROCKS died in the car accident? Why wasn't this album that great?
||Date: October 1, 2003 at 12:54|
|i always loved the artwork of this lp..some songs are pretty bad but the crue always got away with fillers on their 80's albums..my favorite song is:'running wild in the night' which didn't make it on this album, and 'city boy blues'.. long live the crue

|I'm unpacking a bunch of boxes that I've had packed away and I am going through all my old cassettes that I haven't seen in years. I just pulled Theatre Of Pain, and remembered why this is their best album. Some really killer songs on this one!
||Date: December 6, 2003 at 13:53|
|The best album ever by far, this was my first album ever i bougth while living in puerto rico and it blew me away long live MOTLEY.
||Date: December 6, 2003 at 14:09|
|I think it's the weakest album by Motley's. Home and Smoking are great songs but the rest is....not horrible but very average...and production is weakest too....

|M-one, you were here in Puerto Rico? I am from Puerto Rico! What a surprise! Nice to know, my pal!

|In 1983-84, the Crue were my favorite band. SHOUT AT THE DEVIL was my favorite album ever and I thought they were the coolest, heaviest, most evil thing EVER. (Hey, I was 12..) I waited for the new album, THEATRE OF PAIN, sure it would be a metal masterpiece, and was stunned to buy it and see them wearing women's clothes and singing radio crap like 'Home Sweet Home.' Needless to say, I wrote'em off right then and there. They taught me about bands 'selling out' at a very early age.

|Best Crue album ever!!!!!!!
||Date: February 22, 2004 at 4:18|
|THe Crue were really laughable.The songs are bubblegum,wimpy fodder written for the pre-pubescent female. Their lyrics are some of the worst in Rock music. Live Wire and Dr. Feel good are 2 of the very few good tunes that these littlegeeks have. It's no wonder a band like POISON can get famous with music fans like you Crue-heads. Now I know there is a sucker born every minute. They all like Motley Crue...Ha Ha!

|Hi Jack-This Cd is the most commercial (featuring home sweet home, Smoking etc)but it is my 2nd favourite after the Leathur version of the debut. It rocks in places (Smokin,Raise, use it) it has some downright sleazy riffs (city boy) and the drums are awesome (sounding like cannons). Certainly the most varied of the early releases and one that grows in stature over time. In my opinion a winner!!

||Date: March 25, 2004 at 6:28|
|To nu_metal=crap,yeah,i agree with you about how nu-metal sucks but rubbish grunge and alternative bands like alice in chain, stone temple, pearl jam and especially nirvana sucks even more. GLAM METAL,THRASH METAL, SPEED METAL AND SLEAZE METAL RULE......
||Date: March 25, 2004 at 7:44|
|Girls Girls Girls is heavier Theatre of Pain is better (IMHO) Theatre is more glam Both about equal on ballads Glam is poison, Sleaze is GnR-theatre is Glam Theatre pisses all over ANYTHING Poison have done STOP ASKING QUESTIONS AND BUY IT-YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!!
||Date: March 25, 2004 at 12:13|
|Very similiar to what Rockhead said. I have all the Motley Crue CD's and I like them all for different reasons. Keep Your Eye, Louder, Raise Your Hands and Save Our Souls are my personal favorites. Save Our Souls is slow, heavy and very moody. Home Sweet Home is the ballad. Smokin In The Boys Room SHOULD be track 2 on this cd, but someone forgot to add it. I'll have that corrected. Just Buy It !!!
||Date: March 26, 2004 at 1:42|
|To Rockhead and T-Bone, Sorry to ask so many 'foolish' question but thanks for giving me the info on the theatre of pain album. promise i'll buy it!
||Date: March 26, 2004 at 2:18|
|wow,this album rock, especially louder than hell. TO ME, THIS ALBUM ROCKS EVEN HARDER THAN ANY OF THE JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN AND EVEN SLAYER'S ALBUM. DON'T GET ME WRONG, THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION AND I HAVE HEARD NEARLY EVERY ONE OF THEM PRIEST, MAIDEN AND SLAYER'ALBUM AND THEY DON'T ROCK AS GOOD AS THE MOTLEY.
||Date: March 26, 2004 at 2:22|
|.....except maybe gun'n'roses(my personal favourite band of all time) and megadeth(one of my least favourite metal band along with metallica and all the nu-metal and all the other crap grunge and alternative band).
||Date: March 26, 2004 at 2:28|
|to jack, are you kidding? motley crue and gun'n'roses rock louder than judas priest, iron maiden and slayer? NOT EVEN metallica and megadeth can compare of them three in terms of music brutalness and heaviness and add to the fact that metalica and megadeth is heavier than both them motley crue and gun'n'roses.
||Date: March 26, 2004 at 2:37|
| jack, this is some of my heaviness rating for some band; slayer:10/10, iron maiden:9/10, judas priest:8/10, metallica and megadeth:7/10, gun'n'roses and skid row:6/10, motley crue, scorpion and whitesnake:5/10, poison, cinderella and ratt:4/10, bon jovi and def leppard:3/10, europe and winger:2/10, beatles and rolling stones:1/10. britney spears, nirvana, korn:0/10
||Date: March 26, 2004 at 5:29|
|Jack-No worries!!!!! If it was a borderline decision then hey it would be risky-this is NOT a risky purchase. Best wishes
||Date: March 29, 2004 at 7:07|
|TO ME,THE BEST METAL ALBUM IN THE MID 80'S AFTER'SLIPPERY WHEN WET'BY BON JOVI,'THE FINAL COUNDOWN'BY EUROPE,'NIGHT SONGS'BY CINDERELLA,'LOOK WHAT THE CAT DRAGGED IN'BY POISON,'HYSTERIA'BY DEF LEPPARD, 'LIVE UNDEAD'BY MY PERSONAL FAVOURITE BAND,SLAYER AND 'APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION'BY GUN'N'ROSES. BUT,IN LOUDER THAN HELL,THIS ALBUM HAVE ONE OF THE BEST SONGS I'VE HEARD:VOCAL AND GUITAR RIFFS ARE INCREDIBLE. THE BALLAD HOME SWEET HOME IS ON PAR WITH BLACK MAGIC IN THE 'LIVE UNDEAD'ALBUM OF SLAYER
||Date: March 29, 2004 at 7:17|
|I FORGET TO ADD THAT HOME SWEET HOME IS THE BEST BALLAD I'VE HEARD-IN FACT THE ONLY BALLAD I LIKE AND MIND YOU ,I'M NOT INTO THE BALLAD STUFF. THE FACT THAT I LIKE THE BALLAD JUST SHOWS HOW GOOD THE MOTLEYS CAN ROCK AS COOL AS SLAYER AND PRODUCE GOOD BALLAD TOO UNLIKE POISON. THE REASON WHY I CHOOSE 'LOOK WHAT THE CAT DRAGGED IN' ALBUM OVER THIS 'THEATRE OF PAIN' ALBUM IS BEACUSE OF GREAT SONGS LIKE TALK DIRTY TO ME, LOOK WHAT.. AND CRY TOUGH.
||Date: March 29, 2004 at 7:22|
|BUT POISON CAN NEVER ROCK AS GOOD AS THE MOTLEYS. AS MUCH AS IT HURT ME ,NO ONE CAN,NOT EVEN SLAYER . BUT IF YOU WANT TO SEE WHO ROCK LOUDER OR HEAVIER,SLAYER IS THE KING AND THE MOTLEY DON'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO IT. BUT THOUGH ,THEM MOTLEY ARE A BETTER ROCKER THAN SLAYER OVERALL.

|I saw MOTLEY CRUE on their tour for this release & they were the WORST HEADLINER I HAVE EVER SEEN! Japanese band LOUDNESS opened & they blew MOTLEY off the stage! Vince was so drunk he stumbled over or just didn't bother singing half the lyrics, Nikki must have thought it was a fashion show instead of a rock concert because he changed his clothes after every other song, & Mick was stiff as a statue! Tommys playing & hydraulic drum kit were the only saving grace of this 'concert'. HORRID LIVE ACT
||Date: April 23, 2004 at 4:30|
|I think this album is rawer than the girls,girls,girls album through most people say the opposite. Nevertheless, this album is not really up to the standard of RATT'S INVASION OF YOUR PRIVACY(a really awesome album) and DOKKEN'S UNDER LOCK AND KEY, which are practically two of the best rock/metal album in 1985. GUEss the incident of the car crash really affect Vince! only fight for your right is a really good song. GIRLS*3 HAS MORE GOOD SONGS(ALMOST ALL).
||Date: April 23, 2004 at 4:42|
|BUT ANYWAY, I THINK MOTLEY CRUE ARE A REALLY GREAT BAND, POSSIBLY THE FINEST ROCK/METAL BAND OF THE 80'S ALONG WITH RATT, DOKKEN AND CINDERELLA.(P.S SLAYER IS THE BEST DEATH METAL BAND..DOESN'T REALLY MATTER CAUSE THIS IS NOT THE DEATH METAL SECTION). MOTLEY CRUE ALONG WITH THE THREE I MENTION ABOVE HAVE REALLY GREAT SINGER:THE BEST BEING TOM KEIFER(A RASPY VOICE DUPLICATE OF DAN MCCAFERTY OF NAZARETH BUT ONLY BETTER),THEN VINCE NEIL, THEN DON DOKKEN AND STEPHEN PEARCY.SEBASTIAN BACH IS THE KING
||Date: April 23, 2004 at 4:51|
|MOTLEY CRUE, SLAYER, RATT, DOKKEN, CINDERELLA ROCK THE BEST! SKID ROW, POISON, BON JOVI, GUN'N'ROSES AND VAN HALEN ROCK THE 'NEXT' BEST! NIRVANA, KORN, LIMP BIZKIT, LINKIN PARK AND SLIPKNOT ROCK THE WORST! WAIT A MINUTE...WHAT AM I SAYING? THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO ROCK!!
||Date: April 23, 2004 at 5:02|
|Jack, Slayer, Poison whatever-How are Vince Neil and Stephen Pearcy great SINGERS? Are you talking about attitude or actual ability. If ability is your guage-you need your ears checking. Saying that though both are vocal gods compared to gutteral whine of Tom Araya-he sounds like he is shitting a water melon.

|Hey SLAYER_FAN I thought you said Dokken did NOT 'rock as much' as Crue, Ratt and Cinderella to the point where you lost respect for Don and the boys... what up with that?
||Date: May 3, 2004 at 6:55|
|whos Tom Araya? Actually i'm slayer fan. Actually, i consider both stephen pearcy and vince neil a great sceamer with emotion and attitude just like sebastian bach. Well, to Blue Charvel, Dokken did rock almost as good as the motleys and cinderella but that was when i was refering them in the 80's period, before they 'turn' alternative in the mid 90's(just look at the dysfunctional album, its nobetter tha nirvana's).
||Date: May 3, 2004 at 7:03|
|i understand that it was the era of crap genre like grunge and alternative but look at the only true rock/metal band that i really respect and love,cinderella: their still climbing album is released in that era. Sorry to all Dokken fan out there, the '80's hard rock/metal dokken' is almost in the same mould as true great like cinderella, motley crue and whitesnake but the '90's alternative dokken' just crap(with all due respect). Anyway, the TOP album is great especially the last song.rating:8/1

|Absolutely dreadful! Dire, dire,dire. Where are the songs? This was literally thrown together by a bunch of lazy, arrogant, no-brain idiots. After making two great records they spoil it by making this piece of shite. I have just finished playing this after many years and i am honestly lost for words! I don't think i have heard a worse c.d of the heavy rock/metal variety in my life. Nonsense!!!
||Date: May 12, 2004 at 21:39|
|not thier best. Even they admit to that, but if you really listen to it there are some great songs. I personaly like louder than hell, keep your eye on the money,we need a lover, and of course home sweet home. I'm an absolute motley freak even tattooed Alister Fiend on my arm. Still the best band to come out of that generation.
|From: Big Papa K
||Date: June 27, 2004 at 20:44|
|Worst album of their career. As Nikki Sixx has said, he can't remember much from this era because of all the drug abuse. And it shows in the brain dead songwriting. The cover song is good and 'Home Sweet Home' is a classic power ballad, but the rest is lower level hard rock. 3/10
|From: motley dude
||Date: September 14, 2004 at 3:55|
|yeah this isnt their best album, but there are still some good songs on it, i think motley was the first to be totally glam, poison is just a rip off, motley crue changed glam rock since 81 and they still kick ass so ROCK ON!
||Date: September 18, 2004 at 23:47|
|I have no problems at all with this album. Though there is not a single song off here I'd put on a Motley 'Best of' CD, I can also happily play the album from start to finish. Sure, it ain't spectacular or grand, but it's good hard rock. Consistently decent.
||Date: September 21, 2004 at 22:03|
|Not their strongest outing, but not too bad either. Other than 'Smoking In The Boys Room' and 'Home Sweet Home' this is pretty much hair metal by the book. Cheesy lyrics and pretty non-inspired playing for Crue. Not the first CD I would get, but decent enough to round out your Crue collection.
||Date: September 24, 2004 at 15:25|
| I agree moreless with Rychearge's point. Actually I think that this is a good record and not an unispired one. Smokin in the Boys Room may be a hit single out of this record but it is my least favorite one...It is ordinary and boring as hell...But still, there are some really great tunes such as 'Louder than Hell' with an outsanding riff, or 'Keep your Eye on the Money' with a catchy sing- along hook .OK it is not their best effort but still it is good! And really underated!

||Date: December 2, 2004 at 22:56|
|This one seemed to slow down abit and pace itself. I don't think this one was bad in the least bit. I just didn't care for cover tunes unless they were something slow (you're so vain) done by insane monsters (Hanoi Rocks). But Smokin' in the boy's room was already mastered. good album though.
||Date: March 28, 2005 at 16:39|

In time I accepted this release, but as the years have gone by, I realize that my first impression was correct.....A Piece of SHIT!!!! Should not be included in any collection. Starting the album off with City Boy Blues and Smokin. How GAY can a band be?

|i cried tears of joy when i 1st heard theatre of pain. every track on it is amazing.some losers cant handle it when a band flips it up a little. i welcome it. motley crue already released shout at the devil. why would a true fan of a band want them to try and write another copy of a cd they already wrote. sounds like helter skelter!

|absolutly great album. one of the best albums the Crue ever made. 9/10

|Along with 'Generation Swine' this is probably the worst effort the boyz have ever done. The music i actually brilliant in a way, that if it was released by another band, it would robably go as a masterpiece. But this one is released by the mighty Motley Crue, and then it is clear to hear, that these guys were WASTED! They don't even remember recording this album or touring that year! The image and looks is a hole other thing, damn Vince looked like a pussy! Totally bubble-gum transy-look, that

|In my humble opinion this is the most overrated Motley Crue album. It feels to be me like a bastard son among other brilliant releases of Motley Crue which happens to be one of my favourite bands. Their compositions are still great, not as great as they usually do, but yes, great, however what makes me dislike this album is it's the recording quality. Production here sucks.

|People always seemed mixed on this one. Even Vince says he doesnt like it. I think its a great album. I think this is the last great albun they made. Both Girls and Dr. Feelgood for me always includes too many fillers. I can still listen to this all the way through. Not as sonic as the the fist two-still a classic. 9/10

|poproxx2007~ You think this album is better than Dr. Feelgood? Are you on the Meth? This album is not even in the same stratosphere as Feelgood. While I like this album and think there are some good tunes, this is the filler album you speak about. Maybe Girls has the same but don't put Feelgood in this category.

|This record is underrated,they actually rock out on this one guys.I say it even possibly their best as Shout At The Devil is way too short for A CD.

|Listen, those of you scared to buy this because of previous comments, I am a HUGE Crue fan, so take my word for it: This album is VERY worth buying, although there are a couple filler-like tracks. 1. City Boy Blues- 10/10. Absolutely superb song. Like usual, Crue started off with a bang! Awesome lyrics! 2. Smokin' In The Boys Room (Brownsville Station cover)- 10/10. REALLY like this version. The Crue did a great job with it! 3. Louder Than Hell- 10/10. Vince flashes great range in this song. Finalized version of "Hotter Than Hell" from SATD, this is one damn good tune! 4. Keep Your Eye On The Money- 10/10. Yet another great track (After Home Sweet Home, though, things get pretty avg). This is a VERY enjoyable song and actually has a very good back story to it. BUY THE ALBUM IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT IT! 5. Home Sweet Home- 10/10. According to Mick, who hated this album, this song saved the album. I disagree with this, but it is the Crue's first ballad that really took off. Cont

|CONTINUED: 6. Tonight (We Need A Lover)- 9/10. I liked it, but I can see how many wouldn't and call it a filler. I wouldn't personally, I really like it, and true Crue fans will too! 7. Use It Or Lose It- 8/10. Another filler according to some, and I agree it is one of the weaker tracks, but it's still in the same league as other bands' GOOD songs. Aggressive guitar by Mick. 8. Save Our Souls- 9/10. Very powerful song, and a unique one too. 9. Raise Your Hands To Rock- 10/10. Probably most controversial track. You either love it or hate it. I obviously love it. I read a review on a different site of someone saying Vince sounds bitchy. I disagree. This is Crue's attempt to put a different sounding song on this album, and it WILL make you feel happy. Guarantee! 10. Fight For Your Rights- 8/10. Uncharacteristic Crue here. On the previous two, the last song was a blow-away. This one was still good though. All demoes are good, strong 10s. Theatre of Pain= 9/10. I know, same as SATD

|A very good release by the Crue who start showing to the other bands who's gonna be the L.A. rock b'roll king. Special mention to one of the gratest power ballads ''Home Sweet Home''. Well done Crue!

|great album ,one of my favourite crue albums...i dont understand why people say that its not like shout at the devil...you cant really expect someone to release a same album (exept if you are iron maiden).great songs with a nice bluesy touch..the most mature album up untill the saints of los angeles....
||Date: September 27, 2010 at 17:34|
|Hey Sleezerocker: Up the Irons! Although I have to agree, Theatre of Pain is a great album. But all Maiden albums sound the same???? I don't think that Piece of Mind sounds like Killers. Or that the new one sounds like Powerslave.
||Date: February 3, 2011 at 19:10|
|more mainstream metal release than previous two albums and with better production.only few memorable songs here.again too much filler. my faves: smokin' in the boys room, keep your eye on the money, home sweet home and tonight.
||Date: February 19, 2012 at 10:14|
|TOP was a let down after the major break thru album SATD! Why? Because where all songs on Shout are strong, here only side A of the LP, first five songs, are strong. But thanks to landslide hit ballad Home sweet home & at the time really cool cover song Smokin' in the boys room, it was still a big success (despite the really weak last five songs). City boy blues I think is a good opener and the song that I read somewhere was supposed to be the 3rd single, Keep your eye on the money, is another great track. Both songs could have been edited in the end though, shortened. Keep your eye would have been a cool single/video track. Louder than hell, the SATD demo song, was a bit changed & made into another excellent tune, often played live. So yes, A side is killer, B side is filler, no doubt. The choruses of side B's songs are so lame, embarrassing to listen to, I can't listen to them actually. Production is ok, a little muddy and not as good as on SATD, that's for sure. Great vocals again!

|My second least favorite Crue album after MC94. OK maybe it's better than DR Feelgood but....no, none of these songs get me going like Kickstart My Heart. 2nd to the bottom.

|Ok, Mötley Crüe took the path to the comercial side with this one. It's a strange thing; imagine songs like Tonigh(We need a lover) or Use it or loose with a production similar to the songs on Shout at the devil or their first release, they would be great. IMO the songs have to much "make up" for what they really are. It's the classic problem: You love it or you hate it. Personally, well, sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't.

|This is a simple album to me and IMHO the classic softy "Home Sweet Home" is the best cut in here...tracks 2(also a "classic" but being this one a cover),4,6 & 7 are in my book...83/100

|For me this is one of three 80s albums that back in the day were always considered a disappointment (the others being 7800 Fahrenheit and Love is for suckers), but years later they have gained a lot more respect. The big problem for this one back in the day was that this was where Motley really started to do their new sound on each album thing (Too fast and Devil were very similar sonically), so to those that liked the raw sleaze of earlier albums, it was a complete commercial sellout. And then the next album, Girls, really kicked the band into high gear. Years later though you can really appreciate what they did on this one. Its still not what I would call a true classic, but there are some classic songs on this for certain.

|For me, the first six Crue albums are alll goood, in their own different ways. Theatre of Pain isn't their heaviest album, and the production doesn't help. And it might not have as many indelible songs as Shout At The Devil ... but iit's still a good disc, and has a lot of deep highlights, like "City Boy Blues," "Louder Than Hell," "Keep Your Eye On The Money' and 'Tonight (We Need A Lover)." "Home Sweet Home" is the band's best ballad. Hard to believe it was such a huge hit on MTV, to the point where they had to make a rule about how long a particular song could remain the official "most requested video," and yet it didn't crack the Billboard Top 40 until it was re-released in '91.

|Just going by the albums that were released that year, 1985 seems like a bit of an off-year, with a lot of bands not quite able to match the quality of their releases from '83 or '84. A lot of mediocre albums from '85, and some that were downright disastrous (Twisted Sister, Y&T). '88, kind of the same way, where the biggest hard-rock hits (GnR, Def Lep, Aerosmith) were carry-overs from '87 releases.

|In 1985 Sleaze Rock was finding its stride with Motley Crue coming off successful releases and taking the Sunset Strip by storm. Talk to any of the up-and-coming bands at the time and they were trying to emulate the Crue. Then Motley Crue released Theatre Of Pain and things changed again. Now we had the birth of the "ballad" as far as a tool to attract more hot women to your shows to have sex with, and to get precious airplay on radio or MTV (in that order). Home Sweet Home really kicked off this ploy and soon every act would follow, if they could. Motley were as sleazy as you could get and were well known, infamous even for their antics. Sure some "polish" if you could call it that, came into their sound, but so what! This is still Sleaze Rock and was the best 1985 had to offer. Also checkout the Brownsville Station cover song and Save Our Souls. Rated Blood Type B+

|Resuming my little thought exercise, I gotta go this one for '85, too, for pretty much the same reasons Auslander mentioned. My 2015 comments sum it up as well. But the other thing about 1985 was that it was the height of the Satanic Panic and the PMRC and the year of the infamous Senate hearings, and as a result, MTV really backed away from metal for a while. It wasn't until '86 and Bon Jovi, Poison and Cinderella became really popular that things started to come around again, so '85 was a bit of a lull. Plus, many releases by big-name bands didn't come out until late in the year. So this pick came down to Crue or Ratt for me.

|Just completely average. I believe in this one they kinda lose a little bit of their style like for example "Smokin in the boys room" has a harmonica playing which somehow does not quite fit to the music and simple key piano playing but eh...this album is plainly average.
||Date: August 5, 2021 at 8:47|
|I mean simple key piano playing on "Home Sweet Home"
