no comments yet?? This is a classic within the rock genre. long live the crue. tomcat@dolfijn.nl

From: Dave Date: May 7, 2001 at 15:25
Motley Crue is the greatest band ever, especially from its time. This is one great CD. Everyone should love it. 'Bastard' is the best, and 'Ten Seconds to Love' created some mass hysteria up in the New England and Mid-Atlantic states....Everyone should get a copy of it....

From: wicked lester Date: June 30, 2001 at 15:39
hey this is the best cd out of the whole 80's hard rock scene. the guitars are loud ,the vocals rule and well the drums speak for themselves. long live the crue

From: TIM Date: July 6, 2001 at 20:31
One of the best albums of the 80's for certain. The Crue were also one of the greatest bands. Hopefully they will get back to this type of music.

From: T-BONE Date: September 12, 2001 at 17:52
Great Raw sounding album. No over-production here. Just straight forward rock. This was my first Heavy Metal cassette as a youngster, and what an impact it made. I still listen to it today. A must have for any collection.

From: Luis Date: September 27, 2001 at 13:11
This album rocks as hard as jello. I don't understand what's the big deal.

From: mindy Date: January 17, 2002 at 12:12
I wasnt even born when this album was released and all I can say is my mom and dad should have got busy a few years earlier! This is the best hard rock cd I ever heard! All my friends listen to groups like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park but I think the Crue are 100x better!I will always be a Crue fan just wish I could have been around when these albums first came out!

From: Harlan Date: February 5, 2002 at 11:31
I've been reading the Crue biography, 'The Dirt' and pulled out this CD to listen to. The production wasn't that great, but this was definitely the Crue at their best. Good to see kids like Mindy aren't completely sold on the modern group of rockers, but boy do I feel old now!

From: Sleazey Shit Date: February 17, 2002 at 11:17

What I love is it SOUNDS like they don't give a crap what you think. Kiss meets the New York Dolls meets the Pistols meets Sweet. For this genre of music just perfect in every way!!

All i have to say is Ten Seconds To Love. That song is so awesome. These guys are animals, they live life in the fast lane , theey play intense music, the way it should be. loud intense, animalistic, and in your face, when you listen to the crue before going to a strip club ya feel like an animal and you end up feelin like you can take over the world. every song kicks ass. I am partying this weekend and i will definatly have the crue cranked. ROCK ON

One of the best heavy metal albums of all time. I wonder what would have happened if they didnt go in a more pop metal direction after this?

Craziness, intense Guitar work, killer bass action, pounding drums, and a screaming frontman. And a fuckin awesome attitude. Crank this album friends and kick some ass!!!!!!!

From: purrfect-kat Date: October 23, 2002 at 12:37
I have listened to Avril Lavigne and Shakira . . . (I like them both) . . I also like Motley Crue and this was the cd that started it all for the band, but I personally like their Theatre of Pain and Dr.Feelgood cds better.

From: SleazyMusic Date: December 4, 2002 at 6:31
well, I like Shakira too....not her music...just the way she looks, the way she moves.....uh, what a scene, man!

From: rob Date: December 29, 2002 at 17:49
not only the best CRUE album but also the best 80's hard rock album. 10 out of 10.

From: Great Dane Date: December 29, 2002 at 23:05
True. Avril and Shakire are both great. So WAS Motley Crue. This is a masterpiece.

From: samolice Date: February 19, 2003 at 19:42
in 1983 (1984 for the French release!) i was young very young. I bought this album and it was a schock!!!! Motley crue was so different from others bands (they are still). 20 years passed by and this album is always a killer one. Only great songs and an incredible energy! Long live the CRUE!

From: Dusty Date: March 4, 2003 at 10:40
This album just kicks fucking ass! It's great from the first song till the last!

From: rising power Date: March 24, 2003 at 3:02
This album totally kicks ass. This so heavy. Yet melodic and groovy One of the best HEAVY METAL albums of all time and the next was going to be even better

From: billboardbandit Date: April 16, 2003 at 15:31
I, like many, rank this album as one of the greatest ever... 'Shout' defined the standard for the Big Hair 80's and served as THE rock anthem for many (myself included) living the 'he who dies with the most toys WINS' attitude. All grown up, I still wear with pride the tattoo of Mighty Mouse on my arm (why? because Tommy Lee did, of course!) and still crack 'Ten Seconds To Love' when I want to capture memories of my sonic youth. Long Live the Crue!

From: Jason Date: April 20, 2003 at 19:02
Many good tracks on this one. Too many to name but lets just say there isn't a bad track on this one. My cassette still plays after all these years. This is a good one to crank up...LOUD!!!!!!!!!

From: BYRDMAN69 Date: May 15, 2003 at 14:58
THIS STARTED IT ALL FOR ME. AS MY OLDER SIBLINGS WERE RAISED ON LED ZEPPELIN,AND AEROSMITH.....I LATCHED ON TO THIS ALBUM ON VINYL, AND NEVER LET GO. I WORE OUT THE NEEDLE ON MY RECORD PLAYER WITH THIS ONE.{THAN GOD FOR C.D.S}....EVERY SONG IS GOOD,AND THIS ALBUM DEFINED MY LIFE AS A TEENAGER. I STILL LOVE IT TO THIS DAY. IM SO GLAD TO HAD THE CHANCE TO SEE THE CRUE LIVE BACK IN 1990, MAN WHAT A SHOW. I THINK ALL THEIR MUSIC IS PRETTY GOOD,BUT THIS ONE IS BY FAR THE BEST! ROCK ON!

From: Date: June 25, 2003 at 5:16
Let's see...The production here isn't as good as we wanted,am i right?Songs are very good, and Too young too fall in love the best of the album...Vince Neil sounds like Johnson of ACDC and that is very pleasant to the ear..Hell,this is a classic and a hidden gem in the history of rock...The best of Crue in a release that it sounds good, even today..8.5/10

From: Scandinavia Date: June 25, 2003 at 5:42
Somebody probably wants to kill me now but what about 'Dr. Feelgood'? How can an honest Motley fan rate this higher than the perfect 'Dr. Feelgood' album? Maybe because it's a classic? Can't really see where you're all going with your praises...The production stinks! Sure it's old stuff but their debut even had better production in my opinion...This sounds like a Motorhead production! Don't get me wrong I love Crue but I also think they've done much better than this...

From: Motley Date: July 18, 2003 at 16:50
Scandinavia-sure you wanna go to wacken festival with me after those lines?!?!?!?!?!?:O)

From: Date: October 1, 2003 at 12:12

Nobody kicked more ass in 83-84 than the Crue.Sadly, only a year later the drugs really took over and the downward spiral began.A great air-drumming album that still sounds fresh today.

EASILY their best effort. Anyone that thinks 'Dr. Feelgood' was better is fuggin high off their azz!! Not even in the same league as this record. This one is in a league with Pyromania...Appetite for Destruction...Heaven and Hell. A true classic and the Crue's best recording ever. a TEN.

From: Date: February 22, 2004 at 4:06
The best tune on Shout At the Devil is 'Looks That Kill'. There's a couple of really crappy songs and a few average ones. The Crue were not nearly as good as KISS or the other great metal bands of the early 80's. They had only a handful of good tunes but they did have plenty of wimpy, tasteless shlock music. This is a band that I'd consider as very mediocre! They're not as bad as Poison but they're not in the league of OZZY, KISS, AC/DC, SABBATH, Zeppelin. Nikki Sixx is a talentless musician. The

From: gener8tr Date: March 9, 2004 at 19:50
Ahh yes, 1983... Def Leppard Pyromania and Motley Crue Shout At The Devil... Two albums that changed the face of rock in the early 80's! While Pyromania helped put NWOBHM on the map, Shout At The Devil kick started the entire glam-metal movement. I remember seeing these guys at he U.S. Festival and they blew me away.

From: jack Date: March 23, 2004 at 3:27
to gener8tr, you forget to add 'metal health' by quiet riot

From: poison_fan Date: March 23, 2004 at 3:51
i heard this album rock but is it heavier than judas priest' screaming for vengeance album or riot's metal health album?

From: Rockhead Date: March 23, 2004 at 5:46
Poison_Fan This Cd is NOT on a par with JP's Screamin or Indeed the Poppy rock of QR. It is heavy in a sleazy style. RedHot is probably the Heaviest opinion. It dosn't shred-but played loud enough it will shake your foundations and it is certainlt 10000 times heavier than Poison.

From: relivinthe80's Date: March 23, 2004 at 12:55
This CD started it all for me, I was 13 when this CD came out and I've been hooked to this kind of music ever since! Excellent CD!

From: JACK Date: March 25, 2004 at 6:15
THIS ALBUM MAY NOT BE MY FAVOURITE MOTLEY CRUE ALBUM BUT I THINK MOTLEY CRUE IS PROBABLY THE BEST METAL BAND EVER ON PAR WITH EVEN SOME OF THE GREATSET METAL BAND IN HISTORY LIKE BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, DEEP PURPLE, JUDAS PRIEST, KISS, AEROSMITH, GUN'N'ROSES(MY PERSONAL FAVOURITE), LED ZEPPELIN, SCORPION, AC/DC, POISON, WHITENAKE, ALICE COOPER, METALLICA AND DEF LEPPARD. YEAH, THEY RE CERTAINLY BETTER THAN THOSE CRAP NU-METAL BAND LIKE KORN, LIMP BIZKIT AND LINKIN PARK

From: TOCALLO Date: March 25, 2004 at 17:50
PARA MI EL MEJOR DISCO DE MOTLEY CRUE,SIN DEJAR ATRAS DISCOS COMO TOO FAST FOR LOVE Y THEATRE OF PAIN QUE SON MUY BUENOS, DE AHI EN MAS SOLO DESTACARIA LAS BALADAS WITHOUT YOU Y YOU'RE ALL I NEED.

From: poison_fan Date: March 26, 2004 at 2:10
to Rockhead,i rate this album heavier than the screaming for vengeance and metal health album after listening to them three.Wow!!!!

From: poison_fan Date: March 26, 2004 at 2:12
its even heavier than any of the judas priest and iron maiden's album yeah!!bring on slayer!!!!

From: korn=trash Date: March 26, 2004 at 2:43
WOW!!This is the best metal album EVER...alongside 'slippery when wet' by bon jovi, 'ram it down' by judas priest, 'appetite for destruction' by gun'n'roses, 'final countdown' by europe, 'skid row' by skid row and all the other motley crue album. MOTLEY CRUE RULE!!!

From: Rockhead Date: March 26, 2004 at 5:21
Dear Poison_fan Stick on (Screaming for vengeance the title track obviously) at any number above 7 on your stereo. Do the same with ANY track on Theatre-How can Theatre be HEAVIER of indeed Louder than this? Try it with Hellion/Electric Eye, You've Got another thing coming, Devils Child and so on. In terms of tone, bass and sheer brutality-HEAVIER-NO. Theatre IS a great album however.

From: Rockhead Date: March 26, 2004 at 5:25
Sorry Poison_Fan Temporary insanity on my Part-I was talking about theatre, but hey Same litmus test with this one. Red Hot is by far the fastest heaviest and this STILL dosnt compare

From: steve Date: March 26, 2004 at 10:15

From: jack Date: May 5, 2004 at 5:50

From: Big Papa K Date: June 27, 2004 at 20:43
They shift into more of a metal sound on this one and come up with some of their strongest tunes in 'Looks That Kill' and 'Shout At The Devil'. A couple filler tracks ('Danger' and 'Bastard') lower the socre a bit. 8/10

From: jack Date: August 16, 2004 at 5:44
Big Papa K,metal sound you got it right! This is in my opinion is even heavier than judas priest's turbo.

From: Geoff Date: August 16, 2004 at 20:18
A classic, that is about as simple and accurate as you can put it. 'Looks that kill' and 'Too young to fall in love' are two of my faves, but of course I cannot deny my obvious love for the title track. Awesome CD!

From: jack Date: September 8, 2004 at 5:58
I think what makes this album different from the 'so-called' heavy metal album of dr,feeldgood is this album is pure heavy metal. Unlike dr.feelgood, almost all the songs in this album(with the exception of the instrumental GBTCOTB)are pretty heavy. Dr.feelgood have real heavy tracks like the groovy title track(dr.feelgood),slice of the pie and kickstart my heart but songs like don't go away mad,she goes dow and the ballad without you and time for change are weak and ruined it all.

From: manos Date: September 24, 2004 at 15:08
I would agree with all of you. This album is pure fuckin metal!Priest's 'Screaming for vengeance' of the same year sounds like Julio Inglesias comparing to Motleys thunderous riffs. Even Mr Dave Mustaine borrowed ,later on, some licks from 'looks that kill' to write his own 'hangar 18'. Personally I like a lot the production as the guitars are crunchier than the debut and the bass guitar is louder and more percussive. Destined to be played at maximum volume to get optimum level of satisfaction

next to dIO, JPriest, BSabbath, y and T, Def Leppard, this is in the top 5 heavy metal releases of the 80's a killer, classic didk, shame they never made this type of masterpiece, all songs classic, no filler, a must

shout at the devil is vintage metal. every song on this cd is bad ass! From 'shout at the devil' to 'danger' and the bonus tracks kick ass as well. The music still sounds as fresh and raw as it did back in 1983! A must have for any true metal fan!

From: chris strut Date: May 23, 2005 at 3:16

From: meradona Date: May 23, 2005 at 9:06

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: May 23, 2005 at 20:54

From: chris strut Date: May 28, 2005 at 9:17

From: chris strut Date: May 28, 2005 at 9:19

From: meradona Date: May 28, 2005 at 10:18

From: meradona Date: May 28, 2005 at 10:23

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: May 28, 2005 at 11:31

From: chris strut Date: May 30, 2005 at 3:57

From: chris strut Date: May 30, 2005 at 4:04

From: chris strut Date: May 30, 2005 at 11:21

From: chris strut Date: May 30, 2005 at 11:25

Whoever says Shout At The Devil or Motley Crue is the greatest stuff ever, he is a fucking musical ignorant! Shout At The Devil and most of the other Crue's albums are nothing but poor pieces of unmelodical and unharmonical shit the are based on a few chords that repeat all the time. When talking about 1983 albums, you may not have heard Journey's Frontiers album, that is the real hard-rock enjoyment rich at both melody and harmony and can't be compared to such shit as Shout at the devil is!

From: player68 Date: July 30, 2005 at 13:13
Really killing record...great riffs, great songs and great guitar work by Mick.Probably one of the best glam albums ever.

From: Guardian Date: August 1, 2005 at 17:34
Or Pyromania (1983) from Def Leppard with its wonderfully various and dark songs (which you can't find any similarity in) is MUCH more better than the Shout at the devil stuff!

From: ninjapeter Date: August 24, 2005 at 1:24
Hello Gaurdian, Though I agree with you that Def Leppard and Journey are great bands, but so is Motley crue. You can't compare these bands because they are different species from each other. It seems to me that you are the one that is musically ignorant, because you obviously don't understand the music of the crue. What would your musical training be to make such a judgement, do you even play an instrument? I play guitar and a little drums and let me tell you it doesn't take a lot of notes to ge

From: ninjapeter Date: August 24, 2005 at 1:27
get a feeling, thought or message accross to people. You need to start listening to music with your heart and not with your head. Just like love you feel it, you can't explain it. Please give the crue another chance, and maybe you will feel something you haven't before. Personally I think that Motley Crue are a great band and this album to be their best one. I rate this album 9/10.

From: Guardian Date: August 26, 2005 at 8:34
Hehe, a desperate voice has spoken! You're another one of the typical guitar twangers who hardly understands musical theory, that's why the statement: You need to start listening to music with your heart and not with your head. Yes, I listen to it with both my head and heart, but I compare the real musical quality and as I can see SATD hasn't been given much of it! But sure those having no such knowledge of musical theory may like it, I don't care. Cheers!

From: ninjapeter Date: August 26, 2005 at 11:33
O.K., the virtuoso Guardian has spoken. It sounds like you're the desperate one for taking offense to my comment. I try to give you advice and you get rude, wow. I do understand musical theory but we are not talking classical music here. I also write poetry and one of my poems was published. That's a lot more than you could say. Since you are the expert, what is your training? Anyway, you are just one out of many who like this band, so bye bye!

From: Guardian Date: August 27, 2005 at 2:52
Sorry Ninjapeter, that's offensive, I admit. Sorry for that but I'm already fed up of those recent 'artists' making rock music, that's shit compared to the 80's rock and SATD reminded me of such music. Then there's nothing left for me to say than SATD is still better than this shit but simply not that various and colourful as other albums from the 80s are. But I see that's Motley's concern to create the SATD having great riffs and lyrics and not rich melody, harmony & structure. That's it, bye!

From: ninjapeter Date: August 28, 2005 at 14:03
Hey Gaurdian, I'm sorry too. I just love this band and got a little upset at your comment. I can understand your hate of the music of today, I hate it too. I am very much into the great 80's rock myself. To me SATD is totally 80's rock and being released in 1983, I don't know how it could remind you of todays rock crap. Please accept my appology.

From: Guardian Date: August 29, 2005 at 7:24
No problem, Ninjapeter. You know, 80's were magical, when you hear a tune not only rock one you must admit it's something very different from the crap of today! And I think they really were since I'm 23 and that's not much enough to praise the 80's only cause of spending youth in them but worshipping their real qualities!:-) But that's probably not your case, since you're probably older, aren't you?

From: ninjapeter Date: August 30, 2005 at 0:29
Guardian, I couldn't agree more that the 80's were magical. I have over 2000 rock cds from the 80's and they are all great. In the 80's the musicians actually knew how to play an instrument not the repeating three chord wizards of today. Also 80's bands that had their own sound that you could tell them apart, unlike bands now. It's good to hear some people of your age can still identify good music like the ones you mentioned because good music is timeless. Yes I am a few years older than you.

From: Guardian Date: August 30, 2005 at 7:58
Exactly, you're my person! Poor melody, harmony, structure and the terrible overall sound (so dry, no reverbation or atmosphere in it)! Could you understand how it's possible today pop/rock musicians compose such crap? Are they that deaf? Haven't they heard of 80's music at all? I'd be very pleased to remake their poor 'musical' brains! I know, it's all a matter of comparison, you can't tell if some music is good or not, if you can't compare it to some other! And there's just better music than

From: Guardian Date: August 30, 2005 at 8:07
the today crap, isnt there? I wouldn't mind if there wasn't any music than the one of today and they compose the same crap, BUT there are further more (FORTUNATELY) pieces of music and 80's are without any doubt better, aren't they? So can't they understand all this?? Do you have an ICQ account? I think we have a lot to talk over! Mine is: 231253851. Bye!

From: ninjapeter Date: August 31, 2005 at 0:27
Very very true Gaurdian. I think they are deaf too. We also forgot to mention that todays bands can't even sing. They all sound like they are drugged out, which they probably are. At least in the 80's they could hit the high and low notes. I need to have music in my life but if I had to listen to the bands now I wouldn't enjoy it. I also think we have a lot to discuss but I don't have an ICQ account. I do have yahoo messenger though, do you?

There are a couple of fillers on this one, but it all works out pretty well. Because when you have five of the greatest, most influential songs on one album, and to release them at a time when there was nothing but crap on the market, you know that you've given birth to one of the gratest Heavy Metal albums of all time, maybe even THE ALBUM! 10/10

From: jrscan77 Date: December 12, 2005 at 9:39

Nothing short of brilliant. Almost as good as the first one. The boys had quakers and crell running through they're vains! I would still give it a 10/10. Every song is brilliant. The debut I like the best because how can a record that the band said was more or less a demo turn out to be such a good sounding classic. Motley were and still are the real deal!

TOTAL KILLER ALBUM! A COMPLETE CLASSIC AND A MUST-HAVE FOR ANY METAL FAN. LIKE IT OR NOT IT WAS MÖTLEY WHOM STARTED ALL WITH THIS ALBUM! ANYTHING ACHIEVED BY G'N'R, POISON, THE CRÜE DID IT FIRST!!! LOOKS THAT KILL, SHOUT.., BASTARD, RED HOT, ALL GREAT TRACKS, BUT TOO YOUNG TOO FALL IN LOVE MY FAVE! 10/10 LONG LIVE THE CRÜE from ARGENTINA (AND FROM NOW ON SPAIN!) THE MARTIN

After the classic debut we had this glammed up and pilled up satan worshipping cacophony with its horrible production and even worse Beatles cover(helter skelter), luckily it also contains some classic CRUE with the title track and looks that kill stealing the show. Without doubt a benchmark release for glam metal(this was 1983) but sounding a bit shabby around the edges today. 8/10

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: September 17, 2007 at 22:16

Oh baby, Shout at the Devil's a great album! Musical improvement very clear from 1st album. Still not the Crue's best IMO, but a SUPERB starting point for any new fan. Check it out... 1/2. In The Beginning/Shout At The Devil- 10/10. Talk about starting off with a bang! Great tune, simply wonderful! Seemingly satanic, but it's actually ANTI-SATAN! 3. Looks That Kill- 10/10. Follows title track up real nicely. Cool vid too, you guys know the one! Great guitar work! 4. Bastard- 7/10. Slight drop, but still very listenable with a lovable intro! 5. GBTCOTB- 10/10. Abbreviating, sorry. Basically instrumental track, but I love it A LOT. Very random though lol. 6. Helter Skelter (Beatles cover)- 10/10. Love it! Great cover! Then again, not a huge Beatles guy. 7. Red Hot- 9/10. Fast track! Gotta love it! Might take you a couple listens though. It took me 3. 8. Too Young To Fall In Love- 10/10. Not the best on the CD, but still a great rocker which everyone should hear before they die.

From: PC Rocker Date: June 27, 2008 at 11:21
CONTINUED 9. Knock 'Em Dead Kid- 8/10. Cool track! Don't let the 8 fool you, many might give it a 10, but it just seemed like it was missing something. Maybe a bigger Nikki presence! Actually, yeah, I think that is it. 10. Ten Seconds To Love- 9/10. The dirty track of the album! Every Crue fan, or to-be fan will love this one. It captures everything that Motley Crue is about! 11. Danger- 9.5/10. There is a lot of passion in this song. Couldn't bring myself to giving it a 10 for some reason, but very good concluder. I like this song a lot. Not listed at top, but on the remastered CD, there are demoes of SATD, LTK, and TYTFIL. SATD Demo- 8/10. Not bad, 1st person lyrics instead also. LTK Demo- 10/10. Don't know why they added it, basically just a TAD bit less polished then non-demo. TYTFIL- 9/10. Vince's voice sounds tired. Bonus tracks= I Will Survive (11/10, truly spectacular), Hotter Than Hell (9/10 Later Louder Than Hell). Shout At The Devil album= 9/10. Future work= better!

second step for the crue i guess a very clever one.they combined their raw and aggressive hard heavy music and attitude with amore metal sound, especially at the lyrics.tom werman did an excellent job in productioncause this is as polished as it should retaining its power and energy.this is better than the debut in every section and it gave the opportunity to the crue to create something big(theatre of pain)

Yeah guys, this one is nowadays a classic but if you are objective the album has some weak points(like the production 4 example) and some songs are just ok(even though it also has some of Motley's best songs in the shape of "Shout At The Devil","Looks That Kill" & "Too Young To Fall In Love")..."Bastard","Red Hot" & "Knock'em Dead Kid"(are the "ok" tracks)...an album that will put a smile in your face because it ain't a bad one but it won't make you extremely go jumping out of the bed either(if it weren't for those 3 major songs i'd tell you something...)...still it deserves a more than a honorable rate...88/100

From: edwithmj Date: November 3, 2011 at 18:10
I agree with Rick. The good songs on this are really good and the rest is filler. Looks That Kill is my favourite then Too Young To Fall In Love and Knock Em Dead Kid come closely behind.

https://destroyerofharmony.com/2014/12/10/tom-werman/ Tom Werman helped Crüe a whole lot. The perfect 80s BIG seller producer, and Shout sounds good even today, not overproduced like Feelgood - it's killer too of course, a hungry band feeling the breakthru 'round the corner. No real filler on this one, ultra-classic. A 22-year-old Vince who really ruled the strip and magazine covers for a few years. Nasal cocky screeching killer vocals. This is the Vince to be remembered. Flirting with pentagrams did not hurt attention either. Ten seconds to love describes Crüe touring in 80s quite well

Their sophomore album is a success! My favorite is "Looks that kill" and just "Shout at the devil" since everything within metal is the word Devil! \m/ hellyeah I can be a badass any time with this album since I guess I listen to it on YT when I was 18 or 17 hmmmm....kinda can't remember but hey there you go the best Motley Crue album!
