OK, someone's gotta come out and say something about this record. I bought a Japanese import copy in Paris after searching everywhere for it in the UK with no luck. It's a truly brilliant piece of no-nonsense British rock with some amazing melodies and great guitar licks. If you can get your hands on a copy it's worth the effort.

From: WidoMakr Date: January 15, 2002 at 3:29
To all...like SlinkyJ said...what an album...If u r into hard hitting vocals...crushing drums and kick ass guitar work pick up either one of these albums somewhere!!!...Another band that its a shame never made it...great great work....

Again people....if a better band exists I would love to hear it...every damn thing about this banmd is a 10+...Kal Swan is an absolute GOD...his voice is second to none...less maybe Joe Lynn Turner and Perry from Journey...quote the WidoMakr....never more

From: Desslar Date: April 9, 2002 at 13:11
Actually, I thought it was pretty forgettable. Kal Swan's dull vocals don't help it any. Maybe with another singer....

From: WidoMakr Date: April 9, 2002 at 15:03
Desslar...How could u possibly say that Kal Swan has dull vocals...ANYBODY who says one thing negative about LION feels my wrath!...This is/was one of the greatest melodic hard rock bands ever....Kal was the icing on the cake...His vocals are are amazing...furthest thing from dull..maybe with another singer my ASS!!!...The original members were MAGIC!! u IDIOT...its people like u why we have the backstreet boys now......Quote the WidoMakr....never more

From: MelodicRocker Date: May 19, 2002 at 18:54
Yeah!! WidoMakr...i totally agree! Backstreet Boys is why we have this fucking shit music today! Long live pure 80's hard rock and melodic rock! It simply rules! more than anything else..and Lion is NOT an exception! Awesome 80's power metal! Say no more

From: andre Date: May 20, 2002 at 13:11
I must say that I preffer the second record, but this one have killer tunes like "No Surrender" and the awsome adaptation of "Transformers".I must say that Swan's voice is simply magnifique,so powerful, clean and emotive.Doug's guitar is brilliant,f***ing METALLL!!! At the same time the album have this hard rocking bluesy sound.Bass and Drums will simply blow your speakers. If you are an 80's entusiast, sell your mother to buy this record. If you are lucky enougth to find it.

From: Steve T Date: May 21, 2002 at 9:02
I agree it's an amazing album and Lion should have been huge but I also think that it's Doug that makes this album and not Kal. I have to say that his vocals are very one dimensional and he sings every song with every band he's in the same. From Tytan to Lion to Bad Moon Rising his voice never chnages and there is no variation. He has no soul like Coverdale. I see both sides......great album but the vocals do get tired after repeated plays.

From: Andre Date: May 21, 2002 at 10:07
Steve,Steve.I can see clearly that you are a Whitesnake,Coverdale entusiast. But we can't compare both singers. Both are so professional. But different.David ain't no brainchild writting his lyrics. Not like you and me,but somebody could say he is a second Robert Plant, like he said himself.Or that snake is a Deep Purple meets Zeppelin but heavier.Don't know about you ,Swan's voice souds great to me and full of passion JUST LIKE COVERDALE!Good things don't have to be changed!!Best regards Steve!

WidoMakr. Here's some bands in the same vain, Joshua (Intense Defense), Vice, Icon (s/t, Night of the Crime), Leatherwolf (s/t 87, Street Ready), Manzano, Pretty Maids (Jump the Gun/Lethal Heroes), Tindrum (Drums of War: female vocalist, one of the most rockin cds I've ever heard), Treat (I recommend any of their cds, but if you want it to sound the most like Lion, go with Organized Crime, track 11, you would swear that it was Lion. Look for the Lion Power Love cd sound quality A+. Metal 4 Life

I have this cd, it sucks, Power Love is it.

From: TIM Date: September 28, 2002 at 21:02
Do these guys have a self-titled album or is that a different band. I once had the cassette but didn't really care for it. The cover was red and white I think. I know it wasn't White Lion. I think it just had Lion is red letters or something.

From: Desslar Date: November 6, 2002 at 9:48
This album is so-so, but their version of The Transformers theme is great! Wonder how they got that gig.

From: TIM Date: November 6, 2002 at 11:09
This album didn't do much for me either Desslar.

From: Daniel Date: December 15, 2002 at 9:56
I'd paid a high price for this GREAT & AWESOME CD, and it's worth every single dime. Mine is a special Japanese edition with a bonus track Transformers. If you have any chance to come across their 2 albums, GRAB them!!! Too bad Mark Edwards met an accident in 1989 and was seriously injured which caused them to disband. Kal & Doug further pursue their career to form Bad Moon Rising. It's nice to see them not giving up, cos rock never die, never was and never will be... ROCK ON!!!

From: Andre Tekken Date: December 20, 2002 at 12:51
Interesting how this one being their first release souded most of time pretty much more bluesier than their second effort!Anyway this have some damm hard, power tunes!First,Never Surrender was such a strong riffing and hitting song that also became soundtrack, for Charlie Sheen`s"The Wraith".And of course one of the most interesting ones:The heavy riffing, stomping Transformers, wich was also featured as the same titled cartoon film. This one is simply amazing!

From: Andre Tekken Date: December 20, 2002 at 13:04
Powerlove was their first single, released on vynil pretty much independent. This one also features a funny red lion face on cover.Another tune that needs to be mentioned is the pomp/powerfull After the fire!Great hooks!Awsome "dropping from scales"guitar solo!!Super band this one!Better than average 80`s rock bands.Toghether they`ve found the chemestry between English classy, quality rock and the energy and groove of american musicians!Being Kal Swan Scottish!10 out of 10

From: Andre Tekken Date: December 20, 2002 at 13:17
Sad thing to accomplish is that the sort of alchemy this band had,is considered fossilizied to music business today!Due to cancer of music called grunge, that leaded to complete chaos:so called Hip-Hop!Exiting,heavy,melodic,magical guitars,Strong, perfect pitch banshee vocals, stumping drumms, carefull neat production....All I can say is that we went back to a Neanthertal status!!!!!!

From: WidoMakr Date: April 23, 2003 at 2:12
Worst Nightmare..NOT to worry...YES I am a HUGE RATT fan.(pre collage)..to hell with everyone who says they copied a sound from someone else...They are a band who could fill a Best of CD 2x over.(8191 and then some)...Has their ever been a better Jazzy rockin tune than Way Cool Junior?...the way music and videos were meant to be produced..great tune...amazing babes..I watch the credits of Point Break just for the RATT tune...Nobody Rides For Free....Quote the WidoMakr....never more

Hey guys...I F*&kin' love Lion! Always have, always will. Made my mom buy me the tape for Christmas way back when. Also have Opium for the Masses buy BMR. Also great! Andre Tekken you made a comment about strong banshee vocals which made me think of another kick ass band from that era with killer guitars and outstanding vocals - Banshee with Tommy Lee Flood. You can get their album on Metal Mayhem Music. Excellent site for all the out of print and hard to find stuff we all love so much.

Hey TIM, only 7 months later but is this the album you were referring to? http://covertarget.com/si.php?cat=1&id=13293 It appears to match your description, but it's definitely a different band.

From: TIM Date: April 30, 2003 at 20:08
It may be Blue Charvel. The cassette I had had white background and the word lion as well as the pic of the lion was solid red. I'm not for sure but it very well could be another band. Thanks.

Steve, so Kal is a one dimensional vocalist? Coverdale is one of my favorite singers. His band particulary the Sykes era have an influnce on Lion from a certain stand point. However if your such a true fan of Mr.Coverdale than you can clearly see that he writes very one track minded. As almost all of his songs have the word "love" and he's hurt by a woman or whatever in every damn song and it gets annoying after awhile. but you attak Lion a band that does not really at all resmeble Whitesnake Th

I don't understand all the positive reviews. This is just another run of the mill hard rock album. Doug Aldrich is no doubt an excellent guitarist, but Kal Swan is one of the most boring singers from 80's rock. He just sings flat the entire song. 5/10

From: Dean Date: July 4, 2004 at 1:30
Big Papa K-no offense dude, but no fricken way. This album seriously jams. I know several of you prefer singers like Coverdale but to me Coverdale is the epitome of boring(except for the Purple stuff). Either way it's just personal taste but i really dug Kai Swan's vocals esp on "Powerlove" Plus Doug Alrich is one seriously under rated guitarist. His solos and riffs always complement the songs first and foremost.

Pure melodic rock with some stunning axework form Aldrich. This is melodic rock in epic proportions which never seem to realize it's potential to be a huge seller. "Fatal Attraction", "In The Name Of Love" and "Power Love" all have killer hooks which get into your head and just don't leave. Great barnstorming stuff that deserves all the accolades it gets.

I just want to say that this album kicks ass!!! Armed and Dangerous reminds me of seeing hair bands in L.A. around '87-'88 when the party scene was gettin' into gear. They remind me alot of Leatherwolf, Y&T, Sister, Crue,Dokken, White Lion, Warrant, New York, basically whatever was going on in Hollywood-L.A at the time!! I wish we were still in that era!! Rock on all!!!

Oh MY ! This IS the hard rock band ! I think that LION is absolutely the most underrated band in the 80's metal world. A real CLASSIC !

From: Endika Date: December 29, 2004 at 7:27

Average cd. Nothin really stands out on this release. Swans vocals are good but nothing earth shattering. The cd gets better the more you listen to it. Not worth the $40 is goes for on ebay, but if you like rare 80's rock pick this one up. Best song by these guys is found on Transformers the Movie Soundtrack, great tune!

Hey Widowmakr, if you haven't already, check out these bands in the style you're looking for: Kuni (Lookin' for Action), Bonfire("Fireworks") - you will not be disappointed with those two. Also, Keel (S/T), Grim Reaper (Rock You To Hell), and if you like 80's traditional/power metal with higher than hell vocals, and killer guitars, check out Crimson Glory (S/T).

One blast of an album!!!.Excelent melodic/hard rock songs with that unique sound that the "voice" of Mr Kal Swan delivered along with the rest of the musicians. The first time i listened to Kal's voice was when i bought an album of a band named Tyrant ("Rough Justice" is the name of the album and also a highly recommend one),he is definetely one hell of a singer!!!.The whole album is good but the highlights here probably are "Fatal Attraction","Armed & Dangerous","In The Name Of Love" & "Hard and Heavy".Get it!!!.90/100

This sucker comes roaring from the speakers like a jaguar on steroids and you will instantly realize that you are listening to a full-throttle 80s metal album. We all know how great a guitarist Doug Aldrich is and he unleashes an impressive display of six-string sizzle here, laying down some scorching riffs and badass power chords, backed by huge hooks sharp enough to cut your throat--or ears--with. It's not hard to see why so many hard rock fans are attracted to this album.

From: hair metal again Date: December 4, 2012 at 11:45
very good release by LION with guitar driven ,hard edged tunes and fine songs all over! i d prefer a more commercial approach and i d like 1or 2 big songs in it,but this is also enjoyable!"fatal attraction","hard n heavy" and "after the fire " are the highlights!i love that Scotti Brosss vinyl!

Great Album,,Awesome Riff guitar,,,same league than Keel,,Hurricane,,Icon,,But damn it,the only problem is the Singer,!!!! i pay top dollars for the 2 albums,,But i very can't stand this singer and that is sad,,,put Ron Keel on this and that is a Bomb,!!!! The guy is Flat,!!! Same tonality,!!! never a big moment,,,i hate to say this,,,but the album is so Great,,,7 on the scale of 10,,,

From: Mindcrime Date: July 21, 2018 at 1:51
I don't get the attacks on Kal's vocals! His style of singing totally suits the mood of this, and the 2nd album's mood and tone. Back when this was released, which was before a lot of the posters time on here, he was one of the best, most recognisable vocalists. Score the album/vocals for the time it was released, NOT when you actually took an interest!
