I'm an enormous fan of Nashvillle Pussy, so it pains me to report that Pleased To Eat You falls into the lower half of their catalog. The production sounds like the remixed version of From Hell To Texas: raw, to go along with some undercooked songs. There are three covers here: "Testify" (George Clinton), "Woke Up This Morning" (Nazareth), and "CCKMP (Steve Earle). The first two are fun, if a little goofy, but the latter (which stands for Cocaine Cannot Kill My Pain") is dreadful, possibly the worst song this band has done (and Blaine sounds like he has the microphone right in his mouth, on this and several other songs, which is really annoying). "Endless Ride" is a plodding, wannabe southern-rock jam that just drones along, and a few others just feel tossed-off, and again, the production really lays bare some of the weaknesses. The best songs are "She Keeps Me Coming," the snide "We Want A War," "Just Another White Boy," "Low-Down Dirty Pig," "Drinkin' My Life Away," and the harmonica |

... laced, ZZ Top-esque "Hang Tight." I'm curious if the subject of "Go Home And Die" is long-departed original bassist Corey Parks (similarly immortalized in "You Give Drugs A Bad Name" from Say Something Nasty), or if it might be referring to former drummer Jeremy Thompson, who was replaced with very little fanfare in late 2016. |

After four years, this has become my least favorite Nashville Pussy album. You could say that Let Them Eat Pussy is worse from a technical and musical standpoint, but that album has it all over Pleased To Eat You in termsof wild-eyed, piss-and-vinegar spirit. This album just sounds tired, even down to its title. The songs aren't as catchy and the jokes mostly aren't as funny as they have been in the past, with most tracks coming of like the weaker ones from From Hell To Texas. It's like a whole album of "Ain't Your Business" and "Pray For The Devil." Blaine's very upfront vocals do him no favors either. Last year's live album, Eaten Alive, is actually quite good, though. |

I have been a fan of this band since the first album came out. Wouldn't exactly call myself a diehard though as they are not one of those bands that I rush out to buy as soon as they release a new album. As this is their most recent release it's kinda interesting to see how they have or have not changed since the debut. While the basic sound remains, they have over the years softened their sound somewhat from the early days with later albums being less raw, which is no bad thing. Really enjoyed this album, but the biggest surprise was Go home and die, which sounded like some kinda classic Alice Cooper track. Overall another worthy entry in their catalogue. |
