I'll take a 30 year anniversary album of Mechanical Resonance (1986) over the last couple decades of Tesla music waste land. Of course these songs have the goods live, but Jeff's vocals with the hands of time haven't aged well and have been on a downward spiral for years, The band sounds worn-out at times- "time's making Changes". A person's life style (especially women) shows on their face/voice over time. Compare a woman who takes care of herself, and ages gracefully at 40 compared to another rocker chick who looks like she's been passed around like a joint at a Foghat concert. Everyone has to deal with the genetic hand they are dealt, but heavy smoker and singer don't go together. Personally I would have much rather the band strung together it's best vintage performances at their peak of powers live from 86'-90' and make a double album if they insist on doing current live versions. The album tosses in one new studio track "Save That Goodness" (not bad) by Phil Collen (Def Leppard).

LIVE albums are gamble in today's market...some perceive them as essential experiences to listen to as the years go on...and some feel they are cash grabs unless they offer something special and/or unique. TESLA's live release is a bit mixed bag here. Mechanical Resonance has always been a staple in TESLA's career as being one of the classic albums of the 80's. This live album is an attempt to remind fans of how this album originally is what TESLA is made of...however, it falls a bit short IMO. Tesla have always prided themselves in being a live band in and out of the studio... Though, Jeff's voice is a bit strained - but that comes with age I suppose. Its good - but he struggles in a few places (songs). It does offer "Save That Goodness" a new 2016 Studio Track - which is a great song by Leppard's Phil Collen...which brings back the true TESLA we know and love - 2 drawbacks:Tommy Skeoch gtr is missed & I wished it had the DVD show with it! HIGHLIGHT TRACK: #13. MY RATING: 79/100
