The arrival of Richie Kotzen resulted in the weakest Poison album ever. He`s songwriting skills is perhaps good, but it totally messed up this album. From beeing a great glam\hard rock band, Poison sounds like a tired rock band that is one the edge of beeing forgotten totally. 'Body Talk' is the only song worth mention.

Theatre of Soul is a great ballad. Listen, it talks of Bretts and C.C.'s break-up and could have been on Flesh and Blood. It even sounds like they tried to make it sound like C.C. was on Guitar. I agree, this album is weak with only three songs to remember off of it. Buy it at your own risk but if the price is right, the three songs are worth it.

I cannot believe the comments about this ablum. This is Poisons best release so far, its difinately got the blues at heart but this is a outstanding album of real quality in ever part, songs to make you dance cry and live your life by. To many good songs on this album to mention. One of my favourites.

This is one of my favorite albums by them. This doesn't sound like traditional poison but the songs are still great. The songs are a little more mature sounding than what they have done in the past. I think all of their albums are great but I got burned out listening to them. This is actually the only album I kept by them.

Kotzen:boring guitarist and this release is totally boring. Its boneless and it sound they lost their touch. Too bad....Glad that C.C is back coz he really brought the great sound to POISON. Kotzen had nothing to with Poison. Glad he was kicked out!!!!!!!

Even though it's true that Ritchie could play CC's stuff with his dick, I'm afraid Ritchie is not the right guy for Poison... he's way too good in technical terms but he lacks the right attitude... still, you'll find 4 or 5 very good tunes on this album, theater of the soul is probably the most inspired, it's just that it doesn't sound like Poison at all. 6,5 out of 10 to me

I will be probably the only one but I like this album very much! I'm agree with he other guys here, Ritchie destroyed Poison's style, but - something very strange for a Poison album - the musicianship of EVERYONE of the band here really shines!! It seems they improved their tecnique a lot! The songs are nice even if it seems to me hard to listen this album from the beginning till the end...

This album is a little darker and bluesier than anything they have ever done. It was a little hard on the first listen, but I've grown to really like this album. 'Ride Child Ride' is my favorite song on the album.

If this were a new band that was called Native Tongue and the album called Poison It would been accepted and liked by most. But since it is a Poison album it wasn't what most expected or wanted from them. Overall I say the album has good, solid tracks and suffers from poor track sequence. 7/10 with Ride Child Ride getting the highest mark for individual song, 9/10.

Heh, sure this is not 'classic' Poison, but have you guys actually listened to the album? This record has a great blues vibe, Richie's playing is brilliant, the arrangements are excellent, elaborate and fresh at the same time... I think we all should judge the album for what it is: a great bluesy hard rock album, with remarkable individual performances (Bret's voice is at its best), really good songs (Stand, The Scream, Until You Suffer Some, 7 Days Over You...) and an excellent production,too.

Yeah. Poison have got to get Richie Zito back in the studio producing their next LP in the near future. Not only did he make 'Native Tongue' sound great, but those five studio tracks he did on 'PTTP' were excellent, as well. That was Poison strutting their stuff into the new millennium with the original band back. 'Hollyweird'? Feh. Amateurish demos that hadn't been worked on long enough. Poison, I love you guys, but you gotta make up for the tragedy that was 'Hollyweird', as Soon as possibe.

Some of these reviews are insane. This album is fantastic. The guys turned a corner with this one. This album should of been huge but the record labels were in love with flannel shirts at the time. This band isn't Ac/Dc. Their sound does change and yeah it was risky but it worked big time. Every Poison fan should own this cd. No matter what the cost. If you have it put in in RIGHT NOW and listen to it. 10 out of 10. 'Nuff said!

Cool album. Kotzen is a much better techncal player than CC who sounds like every other 80s guitarist...but with Kotzen the style changed - and not to the worse...I like this album - it rocks. But I also like the old stuff...Just listen to Hollyweird and you know that even with CC they can bring out a very sucky album!

When I first heard this album, I thought it really sucked. But, I would throw it in every now and then and the more I heard it, the more it grew on me. I kind of dig this release now. But, yeah, they could've done a lot better. If you can get this one for under $5.00, sure, pick it up. But, it's really not worth more than that. It's a low point in their career. KOTZEN??? What's that? Sounds like a new brand of tampon. That's about what he amounted to on this album...a tampon. A used one at that!

I love this album 'cause it's real hard rock, with Stand , Fire and Ice, Theater of the Soul, as very emotional ballads. I know it's not the glam sound of Poison, but for me this is the best side of the band.

'Native Tongue' is to Poison what 'Load' is to Metallica. A change in direction but none the less a technecly sound and superb album. However, I dont miss Ritchie 'Kotex' Kotzen (get it?; see SPOTLIGHT's review). 'Poison is Rikki, Bobby, Bret, and C.C.'.... Bobby Dall even said so himself.

The reason for change of direction in style and sound for this cd is Mr. Michaels/Ego trip. He saw Richie play and after the show told him to audtion and blah blah he joined up but yeah Richie isnt totally original but he writes more shit than C.C. However they are differnt kinda players altogether. If you do hate this cd blame Bret because it was all his doing with the more serious blues vibe and to get Richie's differnt approach to this which all well,didnt work. It did go platinum though...

Kotzen is one of the greatest guitarists around, he can play almost everything from fusion to blues to funk to hard rock, and excel at it. He's a great songwriter too: I own all his solo records and I'd reccomend them to everyone. Besides this, N.T. is probably Poison's finest album, both songwriting-wise and production-wise. All the musicians are at their top. Bashing this album just because it's different from the previous ones is just plain stupid IMO.. This is great bluesy hard rock: get it!

The one thing this album did for me was to embarrass the hell out of C.C Deville, as despite being better suited to the Poison style he could never in a million years play guitar as well as this. This was a reasonable effort, but the band are just a joke these days and have only some humour value and nothing else to offer us. Sad.

Poison have great albums before Native Tongue, but this one is an absolute masterpiece! The songs are more mature and the arrangements, the interpretation, and the production are truly incredible. Probably the best Hard Rock cd from 1993!

Big style change here with Richie Kotzen in the band. One problem with this is that Poison all of a sudden try to act serious. Who can take them seriously? Sure there are some good songs such as 'Stand' and 'The Scream', but this is just the wrong band to pull off this style. 6/10

i understand the bad critics above because that's how i felted when i first listened to the album back in '93 ,expecting to hear another glam/happy/rock-party record Poison were so good at.But after a while i liked it a lot,c'mon guys it's a good album!Kotzen is so different from CC but very good at his own court,he made the band mature and express their overal musical influences(traditional blues/hard rock)and the result was damn good!Personal favs : Stand,Ride child ride,fire and ice.

I like this, and yeah of course Koetzen is technically a better guitarist than CC, but he is as suited to Poison as I am to having my balls chewed by wild and rabid bears. I love 'Fire and Ice' and the sensational 'Theatre of soul' as well as the killer 'Blind faith', the cool 'Aint that the truth' and 'Bring it home'. It's a very good CD, I admit, but not what Poison was all about. Still, good solid CD.

For me this is not a real Poison record as CC's playing is very distinctive (doesn't matter if you like it or not). But if I switch my mind off and forget about the "real Poison" I've to say that it's a very interesting work.

OK I've actually sort of gotten into this album a bit more. I listened to it a bit more after I got Richie Kotzen's Fever Dream. The best way to judge this album for me is as a Richie Kotzen album. I wouldn't class it as a Poison album. Anyway, Richie pulls off some good guitar on this one but Bret's voice doesn't do the songs justice. I'd prefer Richie's voice being sung on all the songs because his talent surpasses anyone else in the band. All the tracks are good Richie tracks but if you judge them as Poison you will be very disappointed if you like classic Poison that is.

Nope, dont get what you are saying at all. This album is nothing like Kotzens solo stuff, and is just a slightly more mature version of Poison. Richie is a great guitarist and has a great voice, but his solo stuff always came across as dull and uninspired, imo. This album, was not that different from Flesh & blood, musically, but did benefit from Richies backing vocals somewhat. Granted, if all you want from Poison is the glam of the first album, you will be disapointed, but any true fan will know this is not that different to their previous efforts.

What do you mean by "true fan". Are you referring to yourself? If so that's a bit conceited. Kotzen's solo stuff is a lot better than Native Tongue because on NT, Bret Michaels and the other Poison members are only good at making glam albums like Poison's first three. I've listened to a lot of Kotzen recently and after I heard this album I appreciated it a bit more.

They came down to my country(Venezuela)on this Tour supporting this release worldwide..such great memories of a memorable concert...the venue was up to the roof with people!!!...we where Poison starved ...for me this album showed a very good yet powerful melodic Hard Rock side of the band,leaving the Pop Glam of the previews releases and also marked the first record with a "new axeman" on board,Mr Richie Kotzen...great tracks such as the two mega hits "Stand" & "Until You Suffer Some(Fire & Ice)" plus "The Scream","Body Talk","Strike Up The Band","Ride Child Ride"(catchy) & "Blind Faith" undoubtebly show maturity and great composition skills of Bret Michaels & C.o.,an enjoyable and recommendable release...92/100

The record that most Poison fans hate. I am not among those fans. I actually hated the album until I listened to it, then I was blown away. It's not what Poison was known for during their heyday, but it's solid nonetheless. Songs like Ride Child Ride, The Scream, Bastard Son Of A Thousand Blues and Seven Days Over You are all top-notch and well worth a listen! Also, I was not a monster fan of Richie Kotzen, but he held his own with this album.

Well at least the Label got the singles right when deciding what to release to Video off this album..."Stand" is the Highlight..and "Fire and Ice" a close 2nd..Neither are Top 10 in the Poison Catalogue, but might be Top 20..The rest are just unmemorable to me...If I'm familiar with a Band and have listened to their release B4 and a Title of a song rings No Bells..then that's a sign that the song is filler at best..Basically great elevator music for 80's Metal Fan.. Nothing to shy away from, but nothing to search out.

excellent release for POISON once again with Richie giving the band a different bluesy approach,but still commercial and hard rocking!the production by mr Zito is fantastic and the songwriting really good with many rockers and 2 sensational ballads!enjoyed it much back in the day and revisiting it brings back great memories!essential
