This could have been a great album ranking with the first three but the shortness of the songs and the fact that CC gets to sing three songs really brings the album down. When i listen to posion i want to hear Bret sing, CC burn on guitar, Bobby's bass in my face and Rikki's drums pulsating in the back. that is all i want plus one great ballad, which this does ont have, nothing less, nothing more. I give it a 8/10 for Bretts songs a -2 for c.c.singing

From: dokken6008 Date: May 29, 2002 at 3:17
I don't have a huge problem with Deville doing the lead vocals on maybe one track, but three is overkill. C.C.'s style is totally pop-punk (Blink 182, Green Day) and he is fun to listen to but I don't want too much of that on a Poison cd. I am a tad disappointed in 'Hollyweird'--I have been waiting for a long time for the their follow-up to 'PTTP' & my expectations where high. This album rocks like the 80's, though and most of it is along the lines of 'Open Up And Say...Ahh!',

From: dokken6008 Date: May 29, 2002 at 3:25
so that's not really a bad thing. By far, the 2 best songs on this rcrdng are the title-track 'Hollyweird', and 'Shooting Star'. Why they chose to release some B-side soundng cover song as their 1st single is beyond me. I think that that was the wrong step to take. Track #10 or even 'Get Ya Some' are more qualified as singles than their vrsion of 'Squeeze Box'. Of CC's 3 tunes, I'd say 'Emperor's New Clothes' ranks the highest. Overall, 'HW' is bitchin', but it will tke some time to grow on you.

The production is among the worst I've ever heard. The sound is very shallow with no depth. I like the Poison of old with the wall of sound. Hollyweird was a very cheaply put together record with piss poor songwriting. Even the 5 new songs on Power To The People were much better. I'm glad I downloaded the whole album to listen to first. I saved myself $15 that I can now spend on something worthwhile. I love Poison, but the new cd is a beercoaster. And to think I waited this long to hear this?

From: Tony Date: May 29, 2002 at 23:00
What the?!?! Man it's gotta suck for bands like this. Progress even a fraction and the fans are all over you but on the other hand stick with what you know and do well and the fans bitch anyways!!! This is a great Poison cd to me pure & simple. My only complaint is that the C.C. songs just sound so out of place here and while not horrible you'll find yourself skipping them on every listen. Kudos to these guys for sticking to their guns and making a great pop-metal album!!!!

From: laurie Date: May 30, 2002 at 5:04
this album rox pure amd simple. y have a ballad on it when the songs areas good as these.poison rock and this cd is great but the producer should be sacked. apart from that a great effort.

From: M. Allen Date: May 30, 2002 at 19:28
Sounds like POISON put their songwriting skills on cruise control for this one, because while (most of) the songs are good, none of them will go down as classics. Still, POISON at half-throttle is still better than most of the crap out there nowadays. No, it's not 'Flesh & Blood: Part II' like so many fans (myself included) hoped for, but it's still a pretty solid pop/hair-metal album from one of the few bands still waving that banner.

From: dokken6008 Date: May 31, 2002 at 22:37
I think that the engineering and mixing sucks. Thomas Panunzio himself is a good producer. He has produced everything from Black Sabbath to Hericane Alice to Motorhead. Don't place all the blame on the producer.

Maybe it's because 990f the 'modern rock' sucks, or maybe I'm 'trapped in the 80's',but I LOVE this CD. 'Get Ya Some' 'Shooting Star' & 'Living in the Now' (which CC does vox on)are the best cuts here. It's pretty simple, if you've ever been a Poison fan, you should like, possibly love this CD,as they really haven't deviated that much from the sound they had on Open Up, or Flesh & Blood.

From: jason Date: June 2, 2002 at 18:28
Wow!...C.C. is singing on this one???? That's a mistake. I haven't heard any but I have to imagine that C.C. sounds like Micky Mouse? I also wonder if he will sing live on stage? And if he does, what will Bret do during those songs? He might go back stage and shoot up with his needle collection or something. If this is what it took to keep Deville in the band than I say give him the boot (again)! Just knowing that he sings lead on this album makes me NOT want to buy it!

From: FAB' Date: June 3, 2002 at 16:41
Fabulous new album from the legends of the glam metal genre. They started it all in 1986.I bet with this one, they'll start again some HAIR METAL REVIVAL.All songs are good on this cd, it's true that's the production is not top-notch, but it just tends to proove that this is not the sound that make good songs. Some bands are overrated, just because they got a big budget and a huge sound. All you have to do with HOLLYWEIRD is turn your stereo a little bit LOUDER and enjoy each and every track!!!

From: Cotton C. Lover Date: June 8, 2002 at 2:16
Album rocks. CC singing does not suck (all of the tracks he sings on, especially 'emperor's new clothes', rock) Favorite track is still Wishful Thinkin'. Thanx to the band for putting out an awesome album (even though nobody who's not a glam fan will hear it).

From: ThunderDan Date: June 15, 2002 at 9:42
Back to basics on this one, and it sounds good to my ears. I agree with everyone else about the production, but was that the intent? Going back to '86? Sounds like it anyway. CC isn't a great singer, but I do enjoy 'Emperor's...'. Fave tune is probably Hollyweird.

From: RichieRocker Date: June 15, 2002 at 13:32
THUNDERDAN,I concur with your latest prognostication about Hollyweird. I opened a line of communication with some esteemed colleages who I do business with and say exactly what you said. I procured this album and I am quite flabbergasted by the recorded material. But in 86-88 that was the height of there commercial apex, and I dont think they will recapture it. I do agree with you, its a solid album that will please the auditory senses!!!! thank you kindly!

From: Reno Date: June 16, 2002 at 2:54
Hey people, check out this review of the new Poison cd. I thing this guy says it perfectly!!! http://www.melodicrock.com/reviews.html

From: dokken6008 Date: June 16, 2002 at 4:44
Reno, you got here before I did--I would have put the link up here for all of you to read as well. Melodicrock.com is a very reliable news source for all things rock (real rock and roll not that Drowning Pool/Sugar Ray bullshit) and the reviews are great as well. When I first read the review a few days back I couldn't have agreed more. Good songs, bucket-of-piss mixing and sound production.

From: Booper71 Date: July 12, 2002 at 2:56
If you take the new tracks from 'Power to the People' and add them to this disc and take away the CC sung songs - you have the best CD in years. Maybe they should've did that!

From: Federico Date: July 13, 2002 at 8:56
A good party glam album, Poison always know how to let the good times roll. I agree with Dok 6008, Deville better take care only about the guitar parts, It's true his vocal style really sound like Blink182. Also James is right, Where are the power ballads on this? However I like it and I'm happy they keep party rock alive. 8 out of 10 is my rating.

From: foghat Date: July 13, 2002 at 14:23
Not a great album, but still better than most of the crap out today. 'Shooting star' is one of the best songs I've heard in a while. Rock on!

From: dokken6008 Date: July 16, 2002 at 4:09
Right on, Federico.

From: SanityQueen Date: July 19, 2002 at 18:21
To me, this CD rocks! I can listen to every song on here. Even though many people seem to hate CC's singing, I do not mind it...sure, it is nasal and can get annoying, but the songs sound awesome. My personal favorites on the album are 'Hollyweird', 'Shooting Star', and 'Wasteland'. 'Stupid, Stoned, and Dumb', though corny, is awesome, too. There is one bone I do have to pick with this album: it's loaded with cliches and some cheesy lyrics. Still, I feel it is underappreciated. The music rules.

From: glamour boy Date: July 26, 2002 at 13:20
a great new cd long live poison !!!!!!!!!

From: jason (FA - Q) Date: July 29, 2002 at 19:24
I don't know how many of you out there watch NASCAR racing, but this last race that was just run yesterday had a Poison/Hollyweird race car. The driver of the car was Derrike Cope (winner of the 1990 Daytona 500) and the car number was 37. He only completed 58 of 175 laps. He had engine trouble and out of 43 cars, Derrike finished 35th place (he started 41st).

From: Chris Date: August 14, 2002 at 15:29
Are we back in 1986? No, just kidding, but give the band credit for sticking to what made them popular. CC's singing sucks and the songs sound like today's same old crap. Give him his dues though. Overall a good cd from a great, timeless band!

From: rocknutter2001 Date: August 15, 2002 at 9:36
this cd rocks give c.c. a break hes only trying to express himself and anyway if he decides to sing a couple of songs on stage bret could always play rythum guitar as he is very good and beef up c.c. songs a little bit anyway the rest of the cd is really cool it sounds like most of the poison albums good time party style rock n roll its great listening to a new album by a band that are proud to be glam

From: UKGlamgod Date: August 22, 2002 at 12:20
This band are the greatest rock n roll band of all time, 14 years ago they exploded into my life and they are the 2nd most important thing in my life, they have helped me shape my life and given me ambition and shown me that life aint no easy ride, but you can still have fun, i hope they are around for another 18 years cos i aint stopped having fun yet!!

From: UKGlamgod Date: August 22, 2002 at 12:23
Oh and by the way CC is predominantly a guitarist and singing was never his strongpoint but give the guy the praise he deserves, his voice may not be as strong as bret's but he puts everything into it!! i think you should listen to CC's band Samantha 7, this is r'n'r at is rawest and CC's voice isnt all that bad, and he can sing LIVE too!

From: WidoMakr Date: September 15, 2002 at 21:00
Well I got this CD 2 weeks ago...I have tried to listen to it with an open mind...THIS THING SUCKS! granted i have been accused of living in the 80's and all..but where are the Fallen Angel and Nothing But a Good Time (even Unskinny Bop)riffs...yes it is better than alot of crap out there but thats not saying much...I know the majority like it but damn I was dissapointed...Quote The WidoMakr....never more

Hello from Argentina Posion is the best and Cinderella too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: James Date: October 30, 2002 at 17:23
A thought occured to me today and i had to add it. You have to give it up to poison for not doing the gimick thing like having a bunch of special guest like limp bizkit, or matchbox 20 appear on their album to try to get sales by selling out to todays 'stars'. too many other's are inviting the stars of today to play on their albums to get sales.

From: Jay Date: November 2, 2002 at 5:03
This CD cost me a fortune since I bought it from Import, I actually think its pretty good I don't know why people think its so shit, In fact I think they have gone back to the old stuff, Okay its not 'Open up and say ahh' but it also isn't as appalling as that shitty CD with Ritchie Kotzen

From: Gar Date: November 29, 2002 at 2:47
Well... let's just say this isn't my favorite Poison album. The two versions of HOME was a bit of overkill. CC sings about two songs too many. The production sounds rushed. The lyrics to many of the songs are pretty lame. This album isn't all that terrible, but it kinda sounds like they didn't put that much effort into it.

From: Z lover Date: December 15, 2002 at 1:35
I've seen Poison 5 times in concert now. The first time I listened to C.C. sing (live) 'I hate every bone...' I thought I was listening to Green Day! Its different, but not necessarily bad. Though, how many times are they gonna remake Fallen Angel on this album? Shooting star & Wishful Thinking have the same basic theme as Fallen Angel. Stupid Stoned and Dumb is actually my favorite! At least its creative! I love Poison! If you havent seen them in concert, you're really missing out!

From: cole Date: January 2, 2003 at 12:51
this is their worst album ever. shame shame shame!!!

From: Anders (Sweden) Date: January 28, 2003 at 18:14

ESTE ALBUM ES UNA ***. COPIAN EL SONIDO ACTUAL PERDIENDO SU ESTILO Y ADEMAS C.C. CANTA, BUENO ESO ES UN DECIR. DONDE ESTAN AQUELLOS 4 MUSICOS REYES DEL GLAM? QUIENES SON ESTOS LIMP BITZ? UNA LASTIMA EL DINERO QUE GASTE EN LA COMPRA. THIS ALBUM IS BULL***.THEY´RE TRYING TO COPY THE NEW ROCK SOUND BUT THEY LOSE THEIR RAWS. WHAT ARE DOING C.C. SINGING? IT'S A FAKE. LIKE THEY SAID: LOOK WHAT THE CAT DRAGGED IN...

From: samolice Date: February 19, 2003 at 19:33
i don't want to be one of this ex-fans that disrespect the band. This album is pure rock'n roll and i like it. Long liev Poison. PS : please, let Michael sing all the tunes

From: Lendog Date: February 20, 2003 at 14:56
Being a huge Poison fan and eagerly anticipating this album, I was majorly disappointed. Power To The People puts this record to shame and it only has five new recordings. The guitar riffs are okay, but the lyrics are inane and hooks are non-existant. Go buy Bret's new solo album in April... it's what Hollyweird should have been (No coked-out freak singing lead vocals).

From: Audiorobb Date: February 25, 2003 at 6:08
Why did they replace the ballads with Samantha 7 songs? they could have used a couple of tracks from the Brett Micheals' 'Country Demos' Cd and left off that 'I wanna go home' crap and this would have been a great Poison CD. I dig Samantha 7 but not on a poison cd.

From: Ribap Date: March 5, 2003 at 11:46
I don't think it's that bad, i like it better than Power to the People. I like CC's songs, but the best song here is Hollyweird. The problem in this album is the production, i guess we should wait for a catchy riff poison album.

From: vikingo666 Date: March 5, 2003 at 15:06

This is a poorly produced good album from a great band. C.C. Banana should save the singing for Samantha 7. It's not my favorite and it doesn't have the great ballad that I was waiting for but I like it alot. They need help with production. They tried to do too much themselves on this one. I hope to god this isn't the last album.

From: diferaos Date: May 3, 2003 at 3:19

From: Metalhead Date: May 17, 2003 at 4:12
Listen to this album after listening to ANY of the other albums. It doesn't hold a CANDLE; the songwriting is weak (esp. the lyrics!) and the album is just boring. I loved the new songs on Power to the People, loved 'Crack a Smile' and 'Native Tongue' - and really loved the others. But this one blows. I don't see how people actually like it. I wish they'd take their time and write a good one!

From: Jimbo Date: May 17, 2003 at 19:54
Geez, this band sure gets over analyzed. It's Poison for pity sake! Is the production good? No, it sucks as bad as the production on Look What the Cat Dragged In. Do the songs make profound statements about the human condition and what it's like to be an emotional being? No, they're about sex and partying and making your way in the big city. Will this CD go down as a classic? No, but it's still a WAY above average Hair Metal album from perhaps the greatest Hair Metal band of all time. Snag one.

From: Great Dane Date: June 1, 2003 at 19:02
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, This is probably the worst cd I bought this year. They should have stayed apart. Sometimes reunions are catastrophies.

From: virgian noor Date: June 13, 2003 at 7:17
No power ballads? I think I'm not gonna buy this one. Except if I have money that I don't know what to have for. And this album have songs like 'so tell me why', 'flesh and blood', 'fallen angel'...

From: CHIRO Date: June 14, 2003 at 1:00

I bought this after going to their Hollyweird World Tour concert on June 18, 2002. I'm not all that impressed with it. It's OK, but not up to the quality of their first three CD's. Cinderella was at the concert too, and they blew Poison away. Cinderella should have been the headliners.

Great cd! C.C.'s vocals are pretty damned good (and the fact he double-tracked his voice provides an interesting effect). Bret's vocals are excelent as well. The two versions of 'Home' are just outstanding examples of poison's sense of humor!!!!! 'Hollywierd' is just great rock-n-roll!!!

From: Cavinatto Date: October 6, 2003 at 23:27
The best in this album is the cover. Ok, let's give a point to the guys to try to sound like in the 80's but... The songs ain't got the same quality. Just 'Shooting Star' rocks. Although to be a rerecord of 'Fallen Angel'...

Absolute garbage. A most heinous album ... that's the perfect follow-up to Power to the People - ie. total crap. Get CC Deville out of the band again, he's absolutely ruining them, turning Poison into a freakin pop-punk band like Blink 182. Man this freakin sucks - and whats with the basement-production? Shotgun Messiah's excellent Second Coming album had absolutely astounding production... and those guys were broke! I expect better from rich-boys like this. Oh and the songs suck too.

Breat which ihate the way he is in interviews and on VH-1 is just a ass kisser and such a loser who cares about him and his daddy stuff he sucks and cant sing anymore. This album was a major dissappointment. The production is awful. I had high hopes for this cd after the tracks from Power to the People. The best songs on the album are the C.C. Deville songs. C.C. needs to put out another solo album. They are still the best live band, but lets hope any further studio albums return to the true poison form.

i like this fukin album..of course cc should only care 'bout guitars but i like this shit much better than flesh and blood...rate 8,5

From: Rycheage Date: March 7, 2004 at 0:43
The title track “Hollyweird” is a great opener, with fist pumping, infectious riffs and lyrics reflective of the decadence of Hollywood, CA. The first single is a cover of The Who’s “Squeeze Box” where CC’s guitar is up front and in your face. “Shooting Star” could have easily been called Fallen Angel part 2. “Wishful Thinking “ is an anthem of misdirected teenage ambition and contains a riff comparable to that of J.Geils' “Love Stinks.” Good old fashioned 80’s rock, the way it should be.

This album does kick ass, I all was enjoy new music from the band

From: jack Date: May 28, 2004 at 5:44
Despite what other people say about poison, fans of hark rock/metal owe poison some.Their music may be 'pop'like or 'wussy' and all that, but they work hard and extremely loyal to their fans, right? They are the band that fuelled and keep hard rock alive, not some crap so-called hard rock band called the darkness! This album though not as good as the first three, its at least better than most of those nonsense nu-metal album produce nowadays! I SALUTE YOU,POISON-GLAM HERO!

From: Rockhead Date: May 28, 2004 at 5:53
I owe Poison nothing!! I wouldn't piss on em if they were on fire. Talentless, un original and totally overrated. Jack please stop force feeding your kack on everyone. The only loyalty shown to fans is if they are female and they can fuck em.They did not keep hard rock alive and these comments go against previous pearls of wisdom you have honoured us with. Make your mind up.

Well, one good thing i like about poison is they never jump or try to fit into the grunge or alternative scenes and music back when hard rock/metal were waning in the mid 90's unlike dokken, warrant and even motley crue. Apart from that, they produce average hard rock music and are exremely good at entertaining people and the band are full of charisma. No wonder they have so many fans!

From: jack Date: June 2, 2004 at 5:45
And i'm not saying this because i am their big fan..i 'm not even their number 500000 something fan.

i thinks this is a record that only old poion fans will listen, nobody more is interested in this shit, ithink even the new stuff of aerosmith, bon jovi or metallica is better than this thing, i havent lsiten to it(and dont want to)but for what i have lsiten it ispure shit and what i also have realized is that nobody want to listen it, only diehard fans form poison listen to it.

From: Jimbo Date: July 13, 2004 at 22:11
Thanks for the insightful review there, andrew. Do you work for Rolling Stone magazine? You should. As for the album, I'm not a diehard Poison fan and I still like it. But what do I know? I actually listened to the whole thing. Imagine.

From: jack Date: July 21, 2004 at 4:56
Jimbo, you are not a diehard poison fan but maybe you like them a little. Well,i think this album is better than bounce!

From: andrew Date: July 24, 2004 at 22:59
jejeje, maybe bounce is not a gem, but is better than this shit, and what i say...its true, i think yuo are the exceprtion, to give you an example i know a friend that is from colombia(latin american country if you dont know..)he said me that everyone knows 'everyday' (bon jovi's bounce track) but no one knows the last 5 works forom poison, the latest known track there is 'ride the wind' jejeje, and that is in much other places.oh i forget one little thing...roling stone magazine is the worst...

From: andrew Date: July 24, 2004 at 23:01
magazine ever...they say jack white (white stripes) is a good guitarrist. so dont expect me to work there jejejeje, the issue here is that everyone knows poison is crap.

From: jack Date: August 20, 2004 at 5:05
Can a band that scored 3 consecutive triple platinum in their first album considered crap? Look, look what the cat dragged in,open up and say.ah and flesh and blood are the best triple combination hard rock.metal album by the same artist in my opinion.

From: Geoff Date: August 22, 2004 at 5:24
Fact 1 - I love Poison, and all of their releases. Fact 2 - that was in a time before I heard this mess, pile of shit, round anus pad... whatever you want to call it. I hate this CD and this is not what Poison are about at all. I don't mind 'Shooting star' but it's a pathetic rip off of their own 'Fallen angel' and sounds 100 times worse. The band sound like a garage band at best and the songs are poor, uninspired pieces of crap. Do I still love Poison? Yes and I pray the next one will be better

WOW! geoff you took the words right out of my mouth! thanks! 1/10

From: andrew Date: September 17, 2004 at 23:31
for me this band sucks, bret michael sings like micky mouse with a cold, c.c deville is very mediocre(kotzen is wayyyy better),dont care for the bass player, and richie rocket is one of hte worst drummer i have ever listen to, he was only show and no action, poor drummer.posion sounds so cheesy and bad that i can get along with it,its simply bad.

From: guillermo Date: November 19, 2004 at 5:13
Puede que este album no sea tan grande como los primeros pero es cien veces mejor que el Crack a smile. Puro glam para disfrutar

From: P.C. Date: December 14, 2004 at 14:16
POISON reborn their sound from 86 . No , i think 84 , but with worst production and bad sound . Don´t do records like this . this one is shame for Poison name . 'Nothing but a good SOUND!'

From: glam_junkie Date: March 18, 2005 at 3:24
poison doing what they do best, cheesy, glammy rock. do take anything they do too seriously and you will undoubtdly enjoy it.

From: poproxx2007 Date: December 23, 2005 at 6:39
Its not the same. Its like something is missing. Like New Tatoo and the latest from Stryper-not great like everyone expected!

From: dudemetal1 Date: August 24, 2006 at 2:15
This release was ok, not their best by far. The sound quality is pretty bad though.

From: forza-orietto Date: October 15, 2006 at 19:03
their best released to be heard more times and to be appreciated! STELLAR

the best one after crack a smile i think poison is now a lot better then in the eighties hollyweird really rocks only 'shooting star' and 'devil woman' sucks 10/10

From: edwithmj Date: July 7, 2010 at 11:55
The three CC sung songs are really good. I like this album.

From: hair metal again Date: March 10, 2012 at 0:52
very good release once again by hair metal legends POISON.every time they do it ,its a celebration for hard rockers and it always feels good!C.C is one of the best guitar players around and the whole thing has a classic feel good vibe!'"shooting star","get ya some","rockstar" and "devil woman" are excellent songs!essential!

From: rick kerch vzla Date: April 5, 2012 at 16:37
Enjoyable album but far from being a "fantastic one"...nothing to do with some other really fine moments of the band, musically talking...my faves in here are "Hollyweird","Shooting Star"(AORish),"Devil Woman","Wasteland","Home"(in its two versions) & "Rockstar"...as i said...enjoyable...no more...82/100

From: Jay K Date: April 19, 2012 at 8:53
Hmmm...The original members are there, the riffs are there, the formulaic songwriting is there, so why does this album suck? They all sound completely bored.

From: JONBONPIGO Date: July 30, 2013 at 18:41
I've just listened to the album for the first time ever: Beginning to End... If you Love Poison then you will find something you like..as I did..While there is no song "Greatest Hits" worthy, my faves are "Shooting Star", "Stupid,Stoned and Dumb" and "Rockstar" The "Home (Bret's Story & C.C's Story)" as separate songs/lyrics was a cool idea/effort..I even liked "Livin' In the Now" with C.C. on Vocals...didn't sound at all like a Poison song, but is a pretty good tune standing on it's own.. I must agree with many of the above comments though, that the production quality/sound is far below top notch... Final Thoughts... Overall Album Grade... "C" Best Song Grade... "B minus" Either "Rockstar", "Shooting Star", or "Stupid,Stoned and Dumb"...I'll have to listen a few more times B4 I commit.. ROCK ON!! \m/ \m/

Not up to par with Poison's earlier releases, however, much better than Native Tongue.
