I've seen this cd around a couple times--anyone know what it sounds like or who the band sounds like and is it worth getting?

This is good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll. Big, open production, big John Bonham-like drum sound. Good tunes, lots of feeling. I'm not sure who I could compare them with, maybe Dan could make a couple samples... My only complaint about this band is I never thought the guitar player was all that good. But that has become less important to me as I listen more to the songwriting than the solos these days...

Bluesy lighter side of hard rock with varying sounds including Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, King's X and even some Violent Femmes influence. The lyrics are a little preachy. The guitarist plays like he's just happy to be there with a lot of the solo's sounding forced which is annoying. The lead singer has a decent voice but it's weak at times. The bass player really stands out though and makes several songs worth listening to just to hear his playing. Bruce Dickenson is listed as a producer.

They kinda remind me of a cross between Saigon Kick and Tesla. Blues based hard rock that doesn't necessarily stick to the formula. This is one cd that keeps getting better with each listen. Worth checking out.

Hey Gar! Not sure where you're hearing the Tesla. Personally, this one did nothing for me. Very forgettable stuff here.

Oddly intoxicating this one. As mentioned in previous reviews the singer isn't the strongest and the guitar seems forced. The lyrics are preachy without being overly smart, like somebody trying to sound smart just to get laid. Nonetheless, a few tunes are genuinely haunting. "Dawn Over Zero", with its unique vocal bridge is quality. Better to view this as a great indie and not a major label reach. Amazing the label let them do 2 albums. Fun to have but not a favorite.

I have a radio only promo CD single for the song, "Why Would You Lie to Yourself". A college radio DJ gave it to me when I was in high school back in 1992. The "Why Would You Lie to Yourself" radio only promo CD contains the album version and the remix version of "Why Would You Lie to Yourself" and two non-album tracks, "Love Turned to Hate" and "Children of the New Sun". That radio only promo CD is very rare! Law And Order rocked! The album should have been reissued by popular demand.

Actually... If you compare the second to the first cd, you'll see they were actually progressing. Their sound was starting to mature. Even though their first cd had a couple of songs that were local NorthEast favorites. I'm kind of partial to them. I knew them all. I heard the second cd even before it was released. I thought the sound back then, was different then what was out there at the time. They definitely gave a great live show.

I've never regretted for a second the moment I sold this CD, as I'd label this in the top 10 poorest hard rock CDs I've heard - probably - but reading Trick Taylor's review makes me want to hear that song and hear what the CD was like again. If it were dropped in my lap I know I'd flick it out the window like a frisbee, but for an instant it had me interested again. Very poor and hookless hard rock release, IMO.

This is a deeper listen than most..kinda like a mix of Zep,Soul Kitchen,and Saigon Kick...but those descriptions don't really give an idea of what is in store...not the best release...but a good one IMO.

I agree with Geoff above on this disc! One of the worst cds I ever owned! Couldn't wait to pawn it off! I felt the same way about the first release also. Just hookless and not my cup of tea! In my opinion, AVOID!

Damn good album IMO! I get the why's and how's this isn't this or that or wasn't up to hype etc, but if taken for what this was, simply a band playing good rock n roll with a slight difference, this one wins! IMO this remains credible even now, the opener Dawn Over Zero is tremendous, and the album features many strong compositions such as Why Would You Lie To Yourself, The Open Door, The Hope and the Hunger... all great tunes and there's more, but the one thing that clicked here for me is these guys didn't sound like everything else out there and managed to forge themselves an identity, a rather hard thing to do given the hair heavy times from which it came! An acquired taste fer sure but no hesitation throwing these guys on the stereo alongside the likes of the mighty Saigon Kick and Spread Eagle's of the same era! Must admit I initially struggled with em when this album first dropped (this being my first taste of L&O) but I persevered and its still paying the odd dividend

If I had to guess only according to the booklet and the year of publishing what the music would be like I would say something about sleazy or arena heavy rock in the vein of Sleeze Beez or Hardline. But after listening to this album I would be completely wrong. Just therefore I understand some people above they could have some problems to categorize this album because often the expectations don't equal reality. IMO the band I would compare this effort to is Pearl Jam because of the similar sound, style of vocals and guitar solos. Anyway not bad, but you know situations - seeing a beautiful? woman from behind but when she turns... Slight disappointment. 70/100.
