Man, I don't know about this one. I love L.A. Guns, not just the first three albums. I think they've put out some terrific music in the last ten years as well, but this latest one is not doing it for me so far. The production is weird, with Phil right up on the mic and the instruments competing for space (the drums seem overly loud and thudding, with a fill every four bars). More importantly, I just don't hear many hooks. "Lucky Motherfucker" is a good example, starting with a cool groove, but the chorus just seems very flat. "The Grinder" features a long, unnecessary scream from Phil that just sticks out as the most memorable thing about the track. Then there are some "experiments" like "Runaway Train" which Tracii says was inspired by old bluesmen like Blind Blake, but to me just sounds like a rockabilly novelty—just weird. "Hit And Run" is similar, with an unusually twangy guitar sound, but at least it's catchy, and winds up being one of the better songs. Others include "Taste It," |

... "Don't Gimme Away," "Follow The Money," and "If You Wanna." But don't get me wrong, none of these are top-drawer L.A. Guns songs overall. |
