L.A. GUNS......just the name make me hot... The debut album still remains one of the ROCK ALBUMS of the rock history... The sound is so raw...that you have to wash yourself after you listened it... No mercy, One more reason, Sex action will take you down on Sunset Strip.... sun, cigarettes, beer, black leather and rock & roll.... Their next lps will never be like this one....

From: MIke G. Date: July 26, 2001 at 7:51
Ho hum!! Just another dirty metal band!! Sure they were good, but not original!!!

From: metal_man73 Date: October 31, 2001 at 13:24
I have over 1300 tapes and 1200 cds and this one is in my top 10!!! Every song on this cd ROCKS! Do you need "One More Reason" to buy it???

From: Dragonfly Date: December 15, 2001 at 6:43
One of the top bands of the late 80's. Along with MOTLEY CRUE and such, they're all about sex, drugs and rock n roll.

From: RichieRocker Date: June 30, 2002 at 22:17
The name L.A.Guns just reeks of animalism. This album kicks major ass, its a must have for any fans of sleaze,Sunset Strip, and just partying until dawn!! Buy this album people you will be glad you did.

From: RichieRocker Date: July 1, 2002 at 21:25
Great raw sound, this is how rock music should sound. The energy is fierce, the vibe is cool, and the sound of the guitars and vocals is killer.

From: Kriz Date: July 7, 2002 at 5:34
yeah - la guns are alright, this one is my prefer album when i was 12 - good - when i drive my car or when i travel on the train, la guns music play very loud - bye

..it's wonderful to read what you wrote, guys.... ....some bands never die in the fans' mind... Rock and fuckin' Roll man!

From: ThunderDan Date: July 31, 2002 at 17:05
Found this one brand new just about 2 weeks ago, still can't believe I found it. Hard, heavy and raw, that's the sound this CD has. Too many great songs for me to pick a fave, although 'Electric Gypsy kicks my ass! And to everyone who has been raving about 'Man In The Moon', I can't agree more. Great album, but why isn't it here? Sure, the piece of crap known as 'American Hardcore' is here, but MITM isn't?? That's crazy! Who's in charge here??

From: Reno Date: August 1, 2002 at 9:05
Hey ThunderDan, Shrinking Violet was almost as bad as American Hardcore. Jizzy Pearl sounds like he has alot of jizzy stuck in his throat. Maybe thats why DiMartini and Blotzer hired him for Ratt?

From: TIM Date: August 1, 2002 at 9:33
ThunderDan, if you want Man In The Moon on here, go to add cd's and submit it. You can add any cd that fits on this site.

From: ThunderDan Date: August 1, 2002 at 14:27
Reno, I heard only negative things about SV. Needless to say, I won't bother w/ that one. Phil Lewis is the right too for this band. Tim, thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, I couldn't come up w/ enough info about the album to submit it. I d-loaded the whole ablum.

From: Reno Date: August 1, 2002 at 17:02
Hey ThunderDan, If you like Phil's voice, check out a band from 1985 called Torme. Phil was the vocalist along with Bernie Torme on guitars. Bernie was once the replacement for Randy Rhoads. Phil Lewis also sang for the glam band Girl in the early 80's. Phil Collin from Def Leppard was the Guitarist.

From: Reno Date: August 1, 2002 at 17:22
Here's a link to the band Girl if you want any more info on them. Phil Collen was in this band before he joined Def leppard. http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/reprazent/492/plewis/girl/girlmusic.htm

excellent album sleazy and fun i always thought l.a. guns never got the credit they deserved pity

From: RichieRocker Date: August 15, 2002 at 22:19
"Shoot For Thrills", "Electric Gypsy", are my favorites off this album. This is raw, intense in your face music. all the songs kick ass. grab it if you can find it.

From: dokken6008 Date: August 16, 2002 at 5:18
From a guy that has owned an advanced copy of upcoming L.A. Guns' 'Waking The Dead' cd for a month: If 'Man In The Moon' didn't quite do it for you, 'Waking The Dead' will. Seven of the ten tracks on the album are great rockin'. "Don't Look At Me That Way" is a future L.A. Guns classic. Andy Johns produced it (Led Zep, Cinderella, Black Sabbath)! Need I say more?

From: jarett r. Date: September 3, 2002 at 23:01
i've heard that axl rose was in l.a. guns before he was in guns'n'roses and before phil lewis was in l.a. guns. paul black was also in l.a. guns before phil lewis. i saw a photo of axl rose and paul black together.

From: HairMetalManiac Date: September 7, 2002 at 9:24
This album F'ing ROCKS. LA Guns kick ass and let's just be glad that Tracii Guns and A. Rose split, cause I'll take LA Guns over GNR any day of the week...Raw, Rocking, and Sleazy all the way!!...

From: Baris Date: September 12, 2002 at 2:30
yeah, this album is just SUPER SLEAZZZY. You can find fun, glam, melodic rock and a dirty party here. I also prefer Tracii Gun's music 100 times to that of Axl.

From: dokken6008 Date: September 15, 2002 at 2:28
Axl was just Guns 'n' Roses singer. The comparison is more of that to Slash and Tracii, they were the guitarists.

From: Baris Date: November 21, 2002 at 5:11
My comparison is in terms of song-writing, not guitar playing. Tracii is better, he developed his creativity and tried to overmatch himself through years but Axl gradually finished after the fantastic legendery "Appetite" album. So L.A. Guns and GNR followed the opposite paths in their releases, while the former began to rise the latter demised.

From: jarett r. Date: November 26, 2002 at 18:35
i've heard that l.a. guns first singer was axl rose, who was replaced by michael jagosz, who was replaced by paul black, who was replaced by phil lewis... well i could go on and on, till phil lewis came back.

From: jarett r. Date: December 4, 2002 at 19:41

This is second only to "Hollywood Vampires" as my favorite LAG album. Great songs, great attitude. Still holds up well to this day.

From: chris (wasp) Date: December 21, 2003 at 3:20
este disco representa lo mejor de esa epoca y ese estilo de vida ,es un disco fundamental,un pilar, una biblia de esa movida ...es inmortal.

From: Fat Freddy Date: January 2, 2004 at 12:38
I saw these guys open for AC/DC in 1988 (Blow Up Your Video Tour). Had never heard them but knew that the drummer, Steve Riley, used to be in WASP. (I think I was hoping they'd play a WASP song... duh!) Anyway, I was so impressed by their show that I bought this cassette the next day! Along with G&R's APPETITE and the first Love/Hate, this is the best example of dirty, L.A. sleaze rock.

From: Blue Charvel Date: January 28, 2004 at 16:18
Forgot how much I liked this, what a classic. I agree Freddy, this is right up there with the other obvious classics you mentioned. My band at the time was heavily influenced by this whole genre...but then we weren't nearly as successful...

From: Lullä Milanese Date: May 19, 2004 at 13:22
Instead of this shitty talking "Who's the best?" you should realise that their spit brought to the world two fuckin' great bands.

From: jack Date: May 24, 2004 at 6:41
This album is just an perfect example of pure,no-nonsense hard rock! They remind me of gun'n'roses and cinderella Although L.A guns were not as popular as both Gun'n'roses and cinderella, i think they are just as good as them, provided they are at their best,of course!

From: FYI Date: May 24, 2004 at 6:49
Tracy GUns formed Guns and Roses with Axl-hence the name. Is it really surprising then that the 2 bands sound alike?

From: jack Date: May 25, 2004 at 3:28
No wonder they sound just like gun'n'roses!what do u mean tracy formed LA Guns with axl?

From: FYI Date: May 25, 2004 at 4:08
Tract and Axl formed Guns N Roses, Hence the name. Tracy left to form LA Guns and Axl hied Slash and the others

From: jack Date: May 25, 2004 at 6:04
Well,as far as i know,i don't think tracii regret doing so. Gun'n'Roses may be a more popular and recognized band but that doesn't mean they are better than la guns. To me,they are both great bands.Axl and tracii are both good at their respective field and i wonder what would happen if both of them work together instead of apart. Ithink they would achieve things that not either bands would achieve alone just like what would happen if tony and jon bon jovi work together!but thats another story!

From: run2u Date: June 5, 2004 at 8:39
Dirty,Raw & Sleazy.SHOW NO MERCY!!(9/10) run2u69@hotmail.com

This CD has got to be on every 80's rock/metal lover's top 10 list. Tons of sceaming guitar licks and fast pace melodies! Nothing to Lose, which was never released as a single, is my favorite. You gotta get this one!

From: Big Papa K Date: August 19, 2004 at 14:59
Essential 80's hard rock here. Unlike a lot of other LA bands at the time, L.A. Guns go for a rawer sound and it works well with them. The first four tracks are all excellent, and side two is pretty good as well. 9/10

From: Geoff Date: August 19, 2004 at 21:36
Nothing at all wrong with this one. Killer hard rock one song after another. Great CD!

about the axl/tracii comments:i think was better that tracci left GNR coz now we got two great bands like L.A.guns and Guns n roses,i think l.a.guns is not better than GNR but GNR is not better than L.A.guns,two bands rules!!!!!!

From: Rene Date: August 28, 2004 at 13:26
Best La guns album ever in my opinion. Best songs:ONE MORE REASON AND SEX ACTION. Big hits in the late 80s and one of the best songs from all the glam/sleazy/hardrock movement back in the late 80s. BUY OR DIE fuckerssssss!!!!!

From: Propane Date: November 30, 2004 at 16:23
Never did catre for the "party garage band" sound, so I don't care for this kind of work at all. Just another band that tried to join the band wagon.

From: Geoff Date: December 1, 2004 at 1:41
Question Propane... you seem familiar with every LA Guns release, yet hate them all. Why the f*ck did you keep buying / listening to them after you realised at the start you didn't like them? They're a good band who have had some great moments and don't deserve the lame comments presented here. Fair enough if you don't like them, but why continue listening and have harsh words about EVERY one of their releases???

From: Propane Date: December 1, 2004 at 14:32
I didn't waste my money on them, I listened to these discs one by one at listening centers, hoping these guys would grow musically. This is a forum for critique, so that's what I'm doing, honestly. Please don't take offense, as some of the bands I love get some pretty gut wrenching reviews. Relax!

From: Geoff Date: December 1, 2004 at 20:02
No offense taken mate, just a little puzzled. I know if I heard about 2 or 3 albums, and definately by number 4 from a band and hated them all I'd give up on them right then and there... just me I guess. There's plenty of discs here I give my honest and sometimes unfavourable opinion of, but for example I hate Led Zepplin and Deep Purple, but didn't need to hear every album they made to know it. Again, I'm relaxed, just puzzled why you kept trying... and they're worse than Britny Fox w/Dizzy?

From: Propane Date: December 4, 2004 at 9:08
Different taste. I happen to think yours is bad, like you probably think mine is bad. Doesn't matter what you or anyone else thinks. I don't try to convert the nonconvertable, It's futile. You should find a chat room as this is not one of them.

From: sleazy come Date: December 16, 2004 at 22:07
This album is only for true sleazy hard rockers, everytime I listen to it brings me to the sunset strip boulevard in the 80's.

From: Azza Date: February 20, 2005 at 18:01
Ha some people are so naive... L.A. Guns unoriginal? L.A. Guns jumping on a bandwagon? Are you thick as shit or what. Sure the Sleaze genre contained alot of shit bands but L.A. Guns were so unique, there is not a band quite like them and they are musically one of the best rock n' roll bands ever. 10/10

From: ROCKER76 Date: February 23, 2005 at 14:26
It's ironic that these guys are labeled "sleaze glam" on this website but Faster Pussycat aren't. Oh well, just a thought....This is one of the better sleazy glam efforts I have heard. No Mercy, One More Reason, Cry No More (ballad), and Down In The City are the highlights even though there are no fillers to speak of. Can't go wrong here at all. All but essential to the collection (plus their next 2 albums which were also nicely done.)

From: Chad Date: March 11, 2005 at 23:18
Very rough, very gritty and very good. This is an awesome album. Phil, Tracii and the boys put out a stellar debut. I happen to enjoy the Cocked and Loaded album a bit more but this is a good collection of tunes. Get this one. It needs to be in everyone that calls themselves a fan of 80's, hard rock and sleaze.

From: Lennie Date: April 29, 2005 at 8:13
Their 2nd album was too polished, the 3rd crap...didnt bother after that. THIS however is a classic raw, menacing slab of sleaze rock which is one of the standout albums of the genre. Pity they could never surpass this achievement. A must have.

From: memole Date: August 2, 2005 at 8:22
A must have...nothing more,nothing less.

From: glamcityrocks Date: March 6, 2006 at 7:47
Absolutely a masterpiece, true sleaze, amazing glam rock with driven, loud & raw guitars,Super Punkglam attitude and a must have for all glamsters everywhere and hard rockers even punks. this debut should be in every home one of my top 5 ever albums in the whole rock history. I love this band,I love the image, I love these great guys and of course I love their songs, simply a pure legend and million times better than Guns fuckin' roses. LA Guns rules are makin justice. one more reason to live

From: Beikes Date: July 18, 2006 at 8:43
This is a very wicked debut! From start 'til finish it is utter brilliance! A very 'flat' sound in production, but that just makes the hole thing that much raunchier and authentic. One of the most original and well playing bands of all time, and even though i liked the next two efforts better, this is truly a debut masterpiece! 9.5/10

From: tssmf4lyfe Date: November 11, 2006 at 6:13
probably the best l.a. guns release except for the paul black demo's disc. very raw and sleazy. shoot for thrills is one catchy song too.

From: Rycheage Date: September 16, 2007 at 17:28
The raw sound just adds to the mystique. This some of the better LA glam/sleaze rock that I am not a fan of. But this is exquisite. From start to finish, this is in-your-face straight ahead glam rock of the first order.

From: Metal T Date: November 8, 2007 at 11:59

From: Buitre Date: December 18, 2007 at 7:16

A Very good Debut one by this band, worth getting.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: May 30, 2008 at 0:32
I don't know what it is, but I've never liked this album nearly as much as Cocked And Loaded. The production sucks, for one thing, and after the first four songs, which are great, there are some really unspectacular tunes. Really cool cover though, and necessary for the classics.

From: SLEEZEROCKER Date: September 27, 2010 at 12:24
great album...L.A Guns at the most sleazy time of their career...cocked is also great but not so dirty...

From: rockhardrock Date: February 2, 2011 at 15:39
their debut-this one is much more sleazier than all of their albums that followed. they made a decent job here. my faves: no mercy, sex action, electric gypsy and one more reason.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: April 12, 2011 at 16:12
Edgy glam rock is what we have in here...with some kind of punky feel at times..."No Mercy","Electric Gypsy","Down In The City" & "Bitch Is Back" ( :cool are my fave ones..tracks 2 & 9 are also pretty worth too...90/100

From: hair metal again Date: September 3, 2011 at 1:49
killer debut by the mighty LA GUNS right back when the Strip was hot!if you dont like this ,you dont like hard rock.this is sleazy, groovy, raw, hard rockin and full of attitude!it s all about being young and not be afraid of anything.amazing release and surely a must have for me."no mercy","sex action","one more reason" ,"electric gypsy" n "bitch is back " are classics

From: edwithmj Date: April 3, 2012 at 9:33
Another one of my favourite debut albums. The disc is unsurpassed by L.A. Guns in my opinion and stands out with a raw sound and hungry energy they've failed to recapture. Electric Gypsy is my favourite here followed closely by the very sleazy sounding Nothing To Lose and Bitch is Back. Other highlights are No Mercy and Hollywood Tease. Phil Lewis has a really good London-accented singing vocals which adds to the feel of the disc. A perfect debut.

From: Buitre Date: January 18, 2013 at 9:50
Sleazy and straight debut by the L.A. Guns. Despite of a poor production it offers a bunch of good songs. In my opinion a must have Cd. By the way, has anybody heard Hollywood Tease performed by Phil's previous band "Girl"? 85/100

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: May 18, 2014 at 19:04
Every time I listen to this disc on headphones, I start wondering if there's a wire loose on the left side. Tracii's guitar is loud and ... well, not clear, but at least you can hear it, on the right side. Mick's rhythm guitar, on the left side, sounds barely there, muted, dialed back both in volume and distortion. If ever an old classic screamed for a remix and remaster, it's this one. "Nothing To Lose," "Bitch Is Back" and "One Way Ticket" don't really move me, but "One More Reason," "Shoot For Thrills," and, much as Phil hates it, "Sex Action" are sleaze classics.

Back on Sunset Strip in the mid 80s the bands in the sleaze scene knew each other quite well. Tracking Guns used to play in the band with Axl and Izzy. Guns N Roses would hang out with Taime Downe of Faster Pussycat. LA Guns might have released their debut a year after in 1988 but they had been around just as long. If anything, the song Sex Action is less subtle in the sleaze than any other released at the time. No Mercy and One More Reason are just as catchy. But the rest of the tunes are no slackers. This is one downright dirty 80s hard rock festival! The best sleaze rock of 1988. Grade A.
