Great glam rock album, a must for anyones collection

From: Mike g. Date: June 26, 2001 at 10:08
This album RRRRRROCKS!!!!! If you took away Van Halen, Dokken, White Lion, etc, this would be the greatest guitar album-EVER!!!! There is so much talented guitar playing here, it is a shredders paradise!! If you love HOT guitar, GET IT-NOW!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

From: Rudy Hendro Date: June 30, 2001 at 7:34
One of the best album of 80...great guitars work from Mr.Cody..... But Where the hell is the band??????????

From: TIM Date: July 19, 2001 at 13:29
They sound like a blend of Accept and Faster Pussycat, except the guitar is far better. This album is fantastic all the way through-no chance to get bored. If you like glam, this album is cheap. Pick it up.

From: T-BONE Date: August 11, 2001 at 9:52
Harry Kody kills a guitar. Totally underrated!! This is a Must Have for any Hard Rock/Punk/Glam/Metal person! It's got it all!!

From: eddie Date: January 19, 2002 at 20:24
Definitley a must have great music buy it.

From: reebboy Date: February 12, 2002 at 22:11
This CD ripps. There is not one bad song on this platter. It doesn't get much better than this. Also check out their 'Violent New Breed' album which is absolutley killer.

From: Drag-in-Bones Date: March 4, 2002 at 1:38
They got the looks.Sorta, Wham Bam Thankyou mam,as the music matches the makeup in this explosive cocktail! There isn't a corner cut with this band.So you can cuff me to the wall and drown me Jack, cause bands like this are what I live for!!

From: FAB' Date: March 11, 2002 at 11:25
My FAVORITE band!!!It's a bloody shame they splitted! Still a BLAST to listen to, after all these years. The sound is totally and incredibly HUGE, Harry Cody must be from another planet.Back in 1989, it was one of the first imported vinyls i bought, i'm glad to have it on CD now. Each time i listen to it, it's still fresh and i'm a crazy teenager again (i'll always be).Who cares about depressive nu metal and grungeshit? SHOTGUN MESSIAH are PURE ENERGY, Teenage Rebellion,Razzle-Dazzle,FUN and Decad

From: David Date: April 3, 2002 at 21:51
I'm pleading with everyone to let me know what Harry Cody has been doing for the last 10 years because he is my equal favourite guitarist along side Nuno Bettencourt, Please!!!!!!!!!!!

From: Desslar Date: April 8, 2002 at 1:36
This rockz!!!! Great sleazy vocals and non-stop energy!

From: jason Date: May 7, 2002 at 21:54
Back in the day I really liked this album. I loved the screeching vocals and Harry is an outstanding guitarest. But those songs are pretty silly. Alot of thought went into the guitar riffs but very little went into the lyrics. If you are 15 and love hair bands than you will like this one. As for me, well...I like hair bands but I'm not 15.

From: David Date: May 8, 2002 at 0:56
'We get our kicks from rock'n'roll, but rocks not rock unless it's out of control'. You call them lyrics silly, I think your silly Jason!

From: Reno Date: May 8, 2002 at 6:15
Tim Tim (Tim Skold) went on to do his own solo cd and then did a cd with KMFDM. I knew Shotgun Messiah was heading down that path after their Second Coming cd. Get the first cd and Second Coming, but forget the 3rd unless you like Industrial music. The 3rd is like NIN and Rage Against The Machine combined.

From: jason Date: May 8, 2002 at 17:25
DON'T get me started DAVID! Stick to the issue or shut the hell up. If I wanted any of your lip, I would look in Reno's ass.

From: T-BONE Date: May 8, 2002 at 18:47
I think you're an idiot also jason. You're too immature to be leaving reviews. I shouldn't even say that...they're not even reviews. You're just here to instigate shit. Grow Up!!

From: jason Date: May 8, 2002 at 19:46
Okay T-BONE, What was so wrong about my review? I wasn't ripping anyone of you. It was a viewpiont, so why does David have to say anything about me. why does everybody think that a review has to kiss the bands ass? Again, this album is alright but I grew out of it. Now is that so 'silly'??

From: JACK Date: May 13, 2002 at 18:07
in my top ten heavy glam albums of the late eighties.Astounding sound!killer guitars!'NERVOUS' is my favorite, the lyrics are so strange.About a boy and his girlfriend lost in the night, in a car out of order, with rain pouring around, and something is waiting...in the DARK! AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

From: Cotton C. Lover Date: June 11, 2002 at 2:00
I heard that Tim (Tim) Skold is now in marilyn manson, taking twiggy's place.

From: David Date: June 11, 2002 at 2:10
Cotton C. Lover, Yes that true!

From: Cotton C. Lover Date: June 25, 2002 at 7:32
Awesome album, btw. And listen....do you hear it???? 9 rockers....no ballads. lol Actually, the sound on this was great. Lyrics a little pedestrian, but that's okay. Just out and out hair metal. Foot to the floor fun. Refreshing to hear from time to time (definitely more fun than that violent new breed thing..lol) They are able to make a song with the title 'shout it out' sound fresh. btw, anybody ever seen the video for this? Tim Tim (bet he hate that nic by now) looks baked or bored.

From: David Date: July 12, 2002 at 10:12
Just don't say a fuckin' bad word against these guys, or they will make a fool of you!!!!!!!

From: David Date: July 12, 2002 at 10:17
Harry Cody will shred you to pieces

From: jason (FA - Q) Date: July 12, 2002 at 11:00
I don't think Hary Cody is going to 'shred' me. He can BLOW ME!........... Blow me away at playing guitar, that is. I liked these guys and I think their 2nd album was their best!

From: TIM Date: September 5, 2002 at 11:49
What happened to Zinny J.? Was he kicked out for drug use or something?

From: David Date: September 5, 2002 at 17:12
TIM, Zinny J has just released a solo album. I haven't heard it but I want to.

From: TIM Date: September 5, 2002 at 18:32
Thanks David. I wasn't aware of that one.

From: Kim Date: September 9, 2002 at 15:14
Good stuff. Just as good as other bands playing the same style. Poison, Motley, LA.Guns and so on. DONT CARE ABOUT NOTHIN`is one of my alltime favorite tracks.

From: nitrodoll Date: September 9, 2002 at 17:21
party rock all the way...originaly known as Kingpin, they re released this disc in 1989 or so and made 2 videos for 'don't care about nothing' and 'shout it out'..very good debut but their follow up was pure rock magic... nitrodoll1974@hotmail.com the vocalist Zinny came from Easy action and after shotgun messiah, he made a disc with his band Zan Clan that wasn't very good to be honest..i did hear great things about this solo stuff (www.fastlanerecords.com) c ya

From: David Date: September 9, 2002 at 19:31
Nitrodoll, how about telling us all want we want to hear and tell us what the hell Harry Cody has done after Shotgun Messiah. I know he did a record with Stuart Hamm but what else?

From: nitrodoll Date: September 10, 2002 at 4:43
Hary Cody did a demo under the name 'Stark' but nothing happened with that...then he formed 'das cabal' if i'm correct but also nothing much is happening with that...i believe nowadays he's contributing music to movies....that's all i know ...

From: JDong Date: October 4, 2002 at 22:55
Personally, I think this album was the biggest piece of shit I heard. I got Second Coming before I bought this and was blown away. When I did get this one, it was very disappointing. Killer guitars, but nothing else. No wonder Tim sang on the second one.!

From: TIM Date: October 5, 2002 at 13:24
Sorry, Skold's voice did nothing for me.

From: The Rodster Date: December 14, 2002 at 10:06
Vocals suck (Jesus, where are the ear plugs?), lyrics suck (My 2 year old could write better songs), and alot of you guys highly overrate this guitarist (Who hell is he & what the hell else has he done?)! This CD is not very good....But to each his (or her) own!!! P.S. To Mike g., you obviously no nothing about guitar playing!!!!

From: ARXONTAS Date: January 11, 2003 at 9:20
What a fuckin great debut!Maybe some of you in the past liked that band and now you prefer Backsteet Boys.Thats ok. I dont have any problem about that.JUST,YOU MUST HAVE THE FUCKIN COURAGE TO ACCEPT IT!For true hard rockers only.10+ on ArxontaS scale...Absolutely No Alternative...

From: ROB GARCIA Date: January 21, 2003 at 16:07
one of the best glam rock albums ever.music played with a lot of balls and an attitude to go with it!!this album kicks some serious ass for sure!!.

From: mutha tricka Date: January 21, 2003 at 22:27
i got the video for shout it out on tape. just the band playing, nothing spectacular.

From: Kris M Date: January 24, 2003 at 22:37
This album is an absolute gem!!! Without a doubt the most underrated and overlooked glam album of that era.

From: Scott Date: February 12, 2003 at 20:26
High energy 90's powder puff hair metal. All guns are a blazin' on this disc however. Don't expect wimpy guitar riffs and solos. Take a listen to the full blown rocker 'Shout It Out' or the balls to the wall instrumental 'The Explorer' and any doubts about this band's chops will be squelched. OK, the lyrics are typical of the hairspray, leather and lace genre. After all, 'Squeezin' Teazin'' and 'Bop City' isn't exactly a title you'd see on a Priest or Maiden album, but otherwise a good disc.

Does anyone know where i can get a copy of the Kingpin stuff?

From: Lennie Date: March 4, 2003 at 6:11
I need to my hand on this first CD from shotgun messiah

From: HG Date: May 24, 2003 at 5:06
Killer CD. Cody is a very good guitarist, and San was an excellent singer. It's a good thing they had some talent back in the rhythm section, since Skold would have to move up to the mic when San left. Much more glammed-out than later albums.

From: Aero Force Mike Date: November 1, 2003 at 15:13
Pretty cool... but not amazing. The guitarwork is fantastic, and the gang background vocals often make for some fantastic sing-along choruses - however Zan's vocals are really rather amateur. The vocals work fine thanks to the bands sheer attitude, but don't make for any impressive melodies or impressive notes. But like i said, they get by on attitude and charisma and that's what gives the album its magic... but my recommendation is Second Coming, it's their masterpiece!

From: Jason Date: February 6, 2004 at 23:39
Harry Cody is a great guitar player. 'The Explorer' Wow!

From: Joey K Date: March 11, 2004 at 23:46
Well, where do I star??? My favorite band for sure. I am friends with most of the guys were in the band. in a nutshell, Zinny was canned/ left (it was a mutual splitting) over creative & personal differences. Bobby & Stix left for the same reason. (I know it all in great detail but don't wanna tarnish anyones image in the band so I'll leave it to the way I just put it.

From: Joey K Date: March 11, 2004 at 23:50
Tim is in Manson, taking a break after the extensive 'Golden age of grotesque' tour. harry works as a composer for 'Grove Addicts' an L.A. based talent agency that specializes in radio & tv ads. Stixx is in Skovde, Sweden, Shotguns' hometown, working for Volvo. Zinny has a new band & is to start recording tomorow as a matter a fact! Bands' name is 'The Zan Clan' but it is an all new line up/ not to be confused w/ Tha Zan Clan of the mid '90's I've got the demo's man it's gonna be KILLER!!!

From: Joey K Date: March 11, 2004 at 23:55
So keep an eye out 4 the 'Zan Clan' better yet,.. 2 www.zanclan.com the album is tennativly due out early May. Bobbys' band, U.N.I. is to start recording very soon & will be doing a summer tour. I'll post more info on that when he gives me the go ahead to let more info out. Bill Bruce 9 tour guitist on the V.N.B.tour is in Springfield, Missouri, he has his own studio where he produces a wide variety of music 4 a wide variety of bands. He also has an album coming out hopefully this summer.

From: Joey K Date: March 12, 2004 at 0:00
Bills' album is titled 'System'tic Overload. I've heard alot of his work, it's the sh*t! Harry taught him alot, that's 4 sure, Bills' just about as impressive as the master himself! There's alot of info on the band at our website: www.shotgun-messiah.com . Also, I'd like to respond to a comment that was said earlier that went along the lines of 'if Harry's so great, what has he done recently?' Harry does as Harry wants, if he doesn't want to put anything out there that's his choice.

From: Joey K Date: March 12, 2004 at 0:03
So he chooses to have a more conventional lifestyle, doesn't make him any less of a musician. He is a true master of the 6 string, amazing & I can't personally think of a better rock guitarist yet to this day. Granted,I've heard alot more of his work than the average person.

From: Bill Dick Date: April 7, 2004 at 12:06
I Have Just Picked Up A Vynl Copy Of Their First Album And It Completely Blew My Pants Off This Is One Hell Of A Find Hope I Can Get My Paws On The Other Three Who Knows I Might End Up Totally NAKED.

From: flypimper2000 Date: April 28, 2004 at 16:51
I just have to leave a comment for anyone putting down Harry K's guitar skills. I'm 27 years old & have been playing guitar since I was 13. I have a degree in commercial music & jazz studies. I remember one day in college our guitar teacher(badest guitar player in town) wanted us to all bring in a piece of music that people in the class probably haven't heard. I brought in 'The Explorer' I'll never forget the look on everyone's faces & the comments to follow bottom line The kid can fucking play!

From: heavymetalbill Date: June 8, 2004 at 23:36
This is the best Glam Metal cd no one has ever heard. It is a must for any 80's,90's metal fan. Best songs are: Don't Care About Nothin', Shout It Out and Bop City. I recommend the 2nd cd(Second Coming) as well.

From: Big Papa K Date: June 14, 2004 at 18:23
One of the last (maybe last?) great glam metal albums. Cody plays way over the top on this album, but that is what makes it stick out from other glam metal albums, besides the quality songs on here. Meant to be played loud! 9/10

From: Richierocker Date: August 7, 2004 at 18:21
Harry Cody kicks ass!! so many good songs and solos on this one. Don't care about nothin is my favorite, along with Shout it out and Squeezin Teasin. Great sound with an edge, a must procure for any hard rock fan especially of this genre.

From: Geoff Date: September 5, 2004 at 21:51
One of the best glam hard rock releases out there, ever. 'Don't care about nothin' and it's million dollar riff come struttin' across your ears and you know you're in glam rock heaven. Elsewhere, tracks like the killer 'Nowhere fast', 'I'm your love' (OH F*CK that guitar is good!) and the sensational 'Nervous' are my picks, but I love it all. The guitar is just mind boggling and this CD is a deadset killer!

From: Kryiis Karl Date: October 22, 2004 at 2:00
First time I heard this release I said to myself : "It must be Faster Pussycat with Steve Vai on guitars ???". Think guitar playing on this one makes the difference with hundred average glam bands of that period. Skold would sing after this first LP which is not a bad thing to my opinion. It won't be the only change though...

From: jessica96fish Date: October 27, 2004 at 3:13
this one reminded me of swedish eroticas blind mans justice.which is no bad thing.this album rocks big style.well worth picking up imho...

From: Endika Date: November 19, 2004 at 7:59
Dios, que discazo!!!!! De lo mejor que podras encontrar de hard rock sueco.Un disco de Glam rock cojonudo que es muy poco reconocido. 9,5/10

From: onemorecast Date: March 10, 2005 at 22:56
Man this was so cool. Shout it Out was one of the first rock/rap songs I ever remember. Too bad they fired the singer. Timm Timm sounded terrible as a lead singer on the next one.

From: Carmine Rose Date: March 24, 2005 at 18:04
A hair metal classic, nuff said!

From: aang Date: April 27, 2005 at 16:09
dear all , I am from Indonesia, now after decade the glam was back in the heart of indonesian youth, local band Seurieus http://www.seurieus.com was call that spirit (they sold almost 500,000 copies!!! this year). I remember the best decade in my life (80's), yes Shotgun Messiah was a gem that time, we wait you US people too break the wall of US Music Industry and MTV , rise up hair metal, for the info many Indonesian wnted the shotgun messiah 1st album, anyone have? 80's metal is HAPPY METAL

From: Lovedrive Date: May 17, 2005 at 9:17
DISCAZO!! Pero de donde ha salido este guitarrista? Menudo crack. Ha sido escuchar "The explorer" y quedarme con cara de tonto. Me recuerda mucho a L.A. Guns, pero mas sleazy si cabe. El cantante tiene un timbre peculiar, pero las canciones son vacilonas y rockeras, como tiene que ser.

From: Lovedrive Date: May 24, 2005 at 8:38
Lástima que el cantante tenga ese timbre tan raro.. eso le quita puntos

From: R-n-R-Appreci8r Date: July 19, 2005 at 16:00
I bought this album in L8 80`s - not long after it came out -

From: R-n-R-Appreci8r Date: July 19, 2005 at 16:32
I got cut off my original attempt at leaving a review, so i`ll carry on again - THIS ALBUM F**CKIN ROXX!!! Standout trax 4 me R `Dont Care Bout Nothin` and `Shout It Out`!! To U out there leaving stupid comments about Harry K`s guitar skills - GET A F**KIN LIFE! That guy can play BIG STYLE! Listen 2 the 2nd album by this band, its fantastic! The 3rd album, different kinda sound but still great - the 1st & 2nd albums R my fav`s. Wicked 1st album - A MUST 4 any1 who loves 80`s guitar driven rock -

From: DIKTATER66 Date: April 16, 2006 at 19:03
As with most cds- I must agree with Geoff. (By the way--I use a lot of Geoff's input on cds I haven't heard and haven't been lead wrong yet!) But this is just a fantastic cd! Got into Shotgun with the Second Coming cd so I had to get this. Shock? Suprise? A little of both. I would totally agree that the guitar work is genious! Choruses and melodies are unique and outstanding. Worth the price alone. Althoug I prefer the TIM fronted SM--this is some real attitude and really in a league of it's own

From: Fat Freddy Date: April 17, 2006 at 16:56
I just recently got both Shotgun Messiah's debut and "Second Coming" on disc and though I like them both, I gotta give the edge to "Second Coming." The debut has some cool stuff but I just prefer Tim Skold's voice. Once I digest this one a little further I will probably be able to comment a little more intelligently about it.

From: skuller Date: July 20, 2006 at 5:32

From: BIG-TIME Date: December 29, 2006 at 15:11
OoOoOoO Harry Cody what a guitarist great riffs cool tune's, Zinny NO WAY! why cant band's like this get a good singer. Surely one of them could have said "hey we have some great tune's here but we need someone who can sing, let's find a good singer" "hey no why don't we just use the one we got" NOOOOOOOOOOOOO...anyway there still rock...KEEP ROCKIN ALL!!!

From: z4roxx Date: March 23, 2007 at 11:40
Only the great bands can do 2 different and awesome works. This is another bomb and absolutely killer hard rock/glam release!!Why after the second one did change completely their style??That's unbelieveble for me....

From: Pave Date: October 7, 2008 at 14:02
Absolutely killer album! 100/100. Best songs: Don't Care 'Bout Nothin', Shout it Out and Nervous.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 17, 2011 at 21:02
Pleasant album...IMHO is not a killer release but as i said,is a pleasant one..my fave tracks are "Bop City" ,"Don't Care 'Bout Nothin'","Sqeeazin' Teazin'","Dirt Talk" & "Nervous"...these guys know hot to play Glam with an edgy sound that's 4 sure....85/100

From: Kralli Date: April 27, 2011 at 17:57
Good production, sleazy party songs, good performance by everyone accept Zinny who doesnt have much of a voice at all. Some really cheesy lyrics and some choruses that arent good enough. Two songs really stands out, and they really rocks: Don't Care 'Bout Nothin' and Nervous.

From: metalmaniac777 Date: October 13, 2011 at 10:49
While energetic enough to take you all the way to "Bop City" and back, the overall impression of this CD is unspectacular, unless you "Don't Care 'Bout Nothin'" except sizzling guitar work, 'cause Cody shreds it up. Some folks want to "Shout It Out" to the world that this is a top tier glam-metal album, but it's really just OK, solid enough to serve as background music while you do some "Squeezin' Teazin'" with your gal in the back of the car, but barely worth paying much attention to otherwise. Aside from the aforementioned guitars, this is Hair Metal 101 type stuff, done a thousand times before and done better. "The Explorer" who goes searching for something special on this CD will find himself going "Nowhere Fast." Perhaps you feel all the "Dirt Talk" about this album is unjustified, but this really is just a mediocre effort saved by some awesome guitar playing. Glam fans shouldn't be "Nervous" about picking this one up, but keep your expectations on a tight leash.

From: andi Date: October 16, 2011 at 17:38
Why did some people wrote a book from an album?Nobody is interested in it!!!Write shortly..Which style and similar.....to.....blablaba..that´s enough!!!

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: October 17, 2011 at 12:55
Oh, I don't know about that, Andi. It takes just as long to decipher your broken English. As for the disc, the flashy guitars keep it above the level of a Pretty Boy Floyd, but the lyrics are pretty moronic, and likely won't appeal to anyone old enough to actually do the things they sing about.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: October 17, 2011 at 21:44
I agree with ya Doghouse Reilly ....why DID some people WROTE...write shortly(yes i will )...WHICH STYLE(the band???)...glam metal andi, glam metal...)...and similar(yes probably similar to other acts, won't name any though )...it takes a couple of dictionaries to understand the profanity in andi's comments
