While there's no doubt which AC/DC album is my favorite ('Razor's Edge') I've never been able to decide which one ranks as second: 'Back in Black' or 'For Those About to Rock.' Both kick some serious hard rock butt, with snarling guitars, in-your-face riffs, and a whole lot of attitude. The title song is an 80s rock classic, and the tracks are great as well...just a string of fist-pumping rockers. AC/DC should be saluted for creating another masterpiece.

DID YOU KNOW........that this is the only AC/DC album to go #1 in the U.S.? The Razors Edge made it to #3.

Wow,I didnt know that. I would have bet money Back n Black did but I guess not.

Awesome! This sounds a lot like it's intended to be Back in Black Part 2. It's not quite as strong, but pretty close. Tracks 1 and 3 are respectively two of their strongest anthems and party songs. 'The moon is rising and so am I...' Great lyric!

Over-rated, baby. Sometimes I think that if not for two stellar tracks--title-track 'For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)' and 'Let's Get It Up--this album would have been as bad as 'Flick Of The Switch'. Those two songs alone I believe save this release from being one of the most boring-ass, least interesting AC/DC bucket full of leftovers cd. j., cool fact--pretty unbelievable. I guess everyone was expecting ANOTHER 'BIB' but I guess they never got it. 'TRE' on the other hand smokes ASS.

Dokken6008, you are forgetting about the best song on this album. You need to lissen to C.O.D. one more time! Do you really think that song is bad? Maybe you need to play it just a little louder next time.

j. I took your advice and listened to 'C.O.D.' (Call of the Devil) just 'one more time' and I still believe what I said previously. That song--and most of 'For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)'--is among AC/DC's blandest material of all after twenty plus years of great rockin' and rollin'.

From: jason (FA - Q) |

D-6008, Thats cool man! If C.O.D. don't hit your ear like it does mine, thats alright. To each his own. Just one thing...... It's not 'Call Of The Devil.'........... It's 'Care Of The Devil.' I'm not trying to make you look bad, I just what you to have it right, thats all.

Cool, j. 'Care Of The Devil'? Damn, I must be deaf!! Naw, I shouldn't be that hard on myself: I was punchy when I was listening to it. BUT, I know what I like and 'C.O.D.' just isn't my type of AC/DC song. No harm done in correcting me, dude. PEACE!!!!

How about 'Evil Walks'? That song is classic AC/DC. Great! 'Put the Finger on You' is really fun too.

Desslar, don't forget 'Snowballed.' Thats onther up beat rocker! You know, AC/DC must have been reading alot of books in 1980/81 because at least two song on here are named after books. For those about to rock was named after a book called 'For Those About To Die, We Salute You.' And the other song that was named after a book was 'Night Of The Long Knives.'
|
From: Desslar |
Date: July 2, 2002 at 14:53 |
'Snowballed' is pretty good too. An unusually fast song for AC/DC. I'm not familar with the book, but the Night of the Long Knives refers to the night in 1933 or '34 when Hitler's brownshirts murdered a great number of his political opponents.

The book 'For Those About To Die' is an old book about Roman gladiators.

From: jason (FA - Q) |

When AC/DC wrote the song 'Snowballed' it was about someone being conned or fooled. Angus said in an interview 'We figured we've been tricked enough in our time, so we came up with that. I could be the woman you're paying alimony to or anything.'
|
From: jason (FA - Q) |

Oops.... Not 'I could be the woman' but 'It could be the woman.' Sorry about that! I had a late one last night and it shows.

Great album!! Every song is solid, especially 'For those about to rock' Point the Finger', 'lets get it up' and a whole lot more. I love the part in 'Snowballed' when Brian Johnson starts screaming and the drums and guitars start really firing away towards the end of the song, its such a rush, Angus starts soloing like an animal and the intensity is picked up a notch, overall like I said before a solid release by one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

Amazing production and the tone is just out of this world. Snowballed is the best song on this album and, dare I say it, one of the band's best ever tunes. Has some filler tunes though.

This one is a big dissapointment for me. It would be impossible for them to top 'Back In Black', but this was quite the letdown. I have never been too big of a fan of the title track, but I do like 'Put The Finger On You' and 'Snowballed'. Seems like the album was rushed out too quickly to capitalize on their success. 6/10

The only song on this album I don't like is 'Breaking the Rules'. As for the rest of the album, it rocks pretty hard. The title track is simply awesome. 'Let's Get It Up' is the funkiest AC/DC song I've heard, 'Inject The Venom' and 'Evil Walks' are intense and menacing. 'Snowballed' is a real rocker with contrasts of manic energy and 'power groove' licks, and 'Night Of The Long Knives' has an incredibly catchy beat. I'd put this album right up there with something like Let There Be Rock.

For some reason, this one seems to get overloked, outside of the steller title track, but there is so much more going on here. This is almost as good as 'Back In Black'. While it will be hard to ever top that, this is a fine, fine follow-up and should get the respect it deserves. Songs like 'Inject The Venom', 'Evil Walks', 'COD', and 'Let's Get It Up' are just as good as anything on 'BIB'. Put this one back in, crank it up, and I think you'll find it's the perfect companion to 'BIB'!!!

Another great AC/DC - Album. Because it was the first album I ever bought back in 1981, it will always have a special place in my collection. The title track rules, but the other tracks are awesome too.

Odd bit of trivia here: For Those About To Rock was the first (and only, until Black Ice came out 27 years later) AC/DC albu to reach #1 on the U.S. Billboard album chart. That's a testament to the success of Back In Black more than the strength of this record here. I'm not alone in finding it more than a little disappointing. Sure, it sounds like nobody else but AC/DC, and Brian Johnson is still in fine voice, but the slower pace of over half the album really drags it down. The energy level is just way down, these songs just lumbering along like the band is already gettin fat. "Put The Finger On You" is the fastest song here, and it's one of the top highlights, along with "Let's Get It Up," "Snowballed," "Evil Walks" and "C.O.D." The title track has never been a particular favorite of mine, just because it seems to take so long to get going, but everybody else seems to love it, and it's been a huge concert staple since it's release.
