It is wonderful to see believers proclaim their faith and be unashamed.

I personally wish bands like this wouldn't bring religion into there music, but I suppose it's there music and they can do anything with it. It just doesn't go, I mean you've got this hard rock attitude to there music and this pansy arse attitude to there vocals, it just doesn't add up. Bands like fear and Slaughter to a degree have ruined there music for us non believers!

My only comment to the above statement is.... Man, that's too bad.

The biggest problem is that Whitecross doesn't have strong enough lyrics--they are rather weak songwriters. More outside writers would have helped the Whitecross have a much better finished product. Again, music-wise the guys are awesome. It's kind of weird having a 'Christian RATT', if you will. The way Pearcy's voice has been going, I betcha that Wenzel could growl 'Lay It Down' better than Stephen himself can now!!

Even if i hate the silly christian lyrics this is an excellent album, with a lot of catchy tunes in the vain of RATT.Ignore the lyrics and listen to the music....Absolutely No Alternative...

ARXONTAS, I just can't look past the silly lyrics unfortunately. I really wish I could!

A couple of good songs on here. 'Attention Please' has some ripping guitar work! I also have to admit that I have a weakness for good acoustic playing, so 'Simple Man' does well in my book. But there's a little bit of sameness in a number of songs - and yes, the lyric writing isn't the best. I'd count this as a 7 out of 10, mainly for Rex's playing.

'Behold' and 'Simple Man' really hurt an otherwise great CD! But every other song is great!

Every bit as good as Hammer and Nail with improved production. Rex Carrol delights the listener with more of his phenomenal shredding and Scott Wenzel's voice is pretty cool too. Still don't care for either of the two ballads, but to their credit, they've got good lyrics. Great disc! Favorite Tracks: Attention Please, Stop Light, Straight Through The Heart.

I had the priviledge of seeing whitecross ( Vancouver B.C.) with Mike Elliot and Rick Armstrong who joined whitecross for this Album. That concert rocked the house and Rex did a 24 min Solo. That was one of the best heavy metal concerts Ive ever seen. Elliot was twirlin the sticks after every strike and Rick had a fantastic Bass Solo. Too Bad they couldnt keep with the Band. They were at their Height Here. Thanks for the awesome memory guys.Excellent Album. I heard Scott is Back from Missions!

I have every Whitecross album and this is my favorite. The first 3 songs crank. I love Christian Metal because you can listen to it and it leaves you with a smile. In a world of negative how about some positive.

I dont give a shit about the lirics. The music is just great. Melodic HEAVY METAL/HARD ROCK the way i like it. Together with STRYPER, ZION, BLOODGOOD, old BRIDE,old TORNIQUET, old GUARDIAN, old DELIVERANCE one of the best WHITE METAL BANDS OF ALL TIME.

There are so many rock bands singing bout the devil so why shouldnt some sing about god? Personally I`m an atheist but that doesnt stop me loving this album (My copy is called 'At their best' which must be the European version). Before I bought it it was described to me as the best album Ratt never made........they werent wrong, damn good stuff!

Actually it would appear the 'At their best' is a compilation with exactly the same cover!

A christian ratt? Now if that don't sound funny i don't know what does-both theoretically and literally. Seriously though-what is the best album to start on these guys with? I prefer the harder edged stuff myself so does anyone have any suggestions?

Actually this one would be a good start...Or perhaps 'Hammer & Nail'...And yes, it sounds a lot like Ratt at times. Especially the voice. A little heavier though...

OK- i just downloaded a few tunes of these guys and they've just been added to 'my gotta get list' The guitar playing is unbelievable. Doesn't anyone else hear a little Jeff Kieth in the vocals also? His delivery just totally reminds me of Tesla(without the bluesy edge)

I totally agree! Scott has one of those 'raw' vocals and yes, Rex Carroll is one helluva underrated shredder...
|
From: Scandinavia |
Date: January 19, 2004 at 6:21 |
But beware their 90s albums!! Generally the albums without Rex Carroll were a collection of wannabe-commercial-alt. Rock....Yes, hard to believe since their first 4-5 albums rock the hell out of you...

As a newbie to this band i simply can not believe that Rex Carroll is not regarded high in the ranks of Nuno,Lynch,Oz Fox, Demartini,Vito and the other top shredders in this genre- I really didn't think that just being in a christian band would alienate that many people to the point of ignorance. I mean I had never even heard of this guy and if you would look at my collection of shredders you would know why i am so puzzled.

My thoughts exactly Dean... Rex is one of the best I've ever heard, this guy knows how to shred, and the band is AWESOME too (well, their first 4 to 5 albums anyway, like stated before). Wenzel is about as cool as they get as well. RECOMMENDED.

If you liked other Whitecross albums you'll like this. Still in the Ratt sound. A little more diversity in the guitar work-which as always is incredible. Unfortunately it follows the same formula as the 2 previous albums making this one less memorable. Again they include a crappy ballad...It took until their 5th album before they figured out how to write a ballad that didn't completely suck!

Another good cd by Whitecross. Not as strong as their 1st or 2nd cd's. If you like early classic Ratt and Motley Crue sound then add this to your collection. Best songs are Red Light, Straight Through The Heart, Down and Heaven's Calling Tonight Rated 7/10.

good release by WHITE CROSS here.hard heavy music in the late 80 s.imagine cinderella in a heavier sound with christian lyrics and you have an idea of their sound.rex caroll is a capable guitarist and prooves it.all the songs are remarkable and especially "straight thru the heart", "down" and "heaven s calling tonight".respectable release

I would say that Whitecross here probably returned to their debut album's lyrics.Mike's drumming is better than Marks'.that is evidentally seen in the first song.lyrics as I said are great, especially for christians and also the music is superb.my favourite tracks:1,2,4,5,7,8 and 10. As for the end I would say that Flashpoint is probably my favourite instrumental piece by Rex.God bless all!!!
