This is the album where Extreme lost it for me. I hated this one.

From: TT Date: November 21, 2001 at 9:20
I actually enjoyed the variety on this album. Nuno showed how talented he is and they took on a concept style approach showing their Queen influences. I still like the first and Pornograffitti, but the musicianship here was excellent. A talented band none the less at this point in their career.

From: WidoMakr Date: January 9, 2002 at 5:19
I have to agree..this album is where Extreme went way downhill...again why do bands go away from gave them their fan base...they have to explore different music...BS!!!! its the music before that made me a fan stay with what u do best...not this crap....terrible album....again terrible album....people wanting the true extreme get the first 2 albums...not this crap

From: Wade Date: January 21, 2002 at 12:55
TOO SELF-ENDULGENT!!!! THIS IS EXACTLY WHY THE GENRE DIED NO EDGE!!!!!!!!!!!! CHERONE STILL SUCKS DOES ANYONE REMBER VAN HALE LAST ALBUM!!!

From: Nuno(Hollywood) Date: April 24, 2002 at 13:12
Another masterpiece. An album to made history n' bring some sense to all the 90's crap.Rise N' Shine is one of the best Extreme songs n' all the others are nuthin' but great...Kneel down suckers this is the album!!

From: Tony Date: May 2, 2002 at 19:57
NOT a good follow-up to Pornograffitti!! Sounds a little too self-indulgent and comes across preachy and whiny instead of intelligent. I remember an interview early in their career with Nuno where he stated that no one simply wrote good "songs" anymore. I think this cd is the end result of forgetting that and maybe just trying to be a tad too clever. For any other band this would have been a masterpiece but these guys are WAY better than this.

From: jens Date: July 20, 2002 at 0:45
pornograffitti was good. perhaps great! and then this: melodic all through, variety... an album perhaps not loved by all (see comments above) but IF you don't mind the style, you will find it to be one of those few albums where EVERY SINGLE song is cherished, looked forward to! your hand will never be on the fast forward button. i enjoyed this immensly, especially since they did not go back to hard rock as successfully as e.g. skid row.

From: jens Date: July 20, 2002 at 0:45
i saw them in concert afterwards - and while good, they were not the same after three sides.

From: SrFloppy5 Date: October 21, 2002 at 18:42
Capullos! Bastards! This one is the best rock album ever! El mejorQQ Vaya producción! Vaya guitarreos (vale, here are less guitar solos than in the other albums), vaya funky, vaya maravilla de canción de 21 minutos, hay de todo funk, pop, rock. sólo echo en falta alguna balada

From: robert Date: October 21, 2002 at 19:08
bueno , bueno, pero me quedo con el 2º.

A little bit boring...isn't it?

From: FM Date: March 17, 2003 at 2:54
Cherone sucks?? Man, are you joking? You must not know many good singers, do you? This is easily Gary's best performance ever. Absolutely brilliant. Nuno's talent shines through this album too. Yeah, it might be a little too self-indulgent, and maybe the band lost the focus with an album that is not sure what direction to take. But the quality is undeniable nonetheless, and if you like Extreme you'll like this one too.

From: gubi Date: July 13, 2003 at 6:52
When i heard this one, I was amazed. Still thinking it's one of the greatest albums ever done, a truly masterpiece, brilliant from start to finish, divided into three defined parts, and ending with a fantastic trilogy. Oh my God, that is art.

From: John Date: August 5, 2003 at 9:42
As a guitarist, for me this was the perfect progression from Pornograffitti. Nuno's playing on this album is perfection. The harmonies are perfection. People who expected Porno part II and hate this either don't play, or aren't listening. Or bitter.

From: keebler Date: October 8, 2003 at 2:00
i bought this cd but i don't listen to it much i seem to grab pornograffitti instead.

From: Gar Date: January 28, 2004 at 15:00
I don't really see why the people who loved "Pornograffitti" hated this. It's really not that far from its predecessor musically. There are some fantastic songs on this. I guess the only problem I have with it is that a few of the tracks go on a bit too long. But that's only a minor complaint. Extreme always stood out among the sea of similar bands of the era. It's a shame people only seemed to care about their first 2 albums when the following 2 were just as good in their own right.

From: Fat Freddy Date: January 28, 2004 at 15:52
I don't hate this album, but it's not nearly as fun as "Pornograffiti" in my book. Did anybody see Extreme on VH1's "Bands Reunited" last night? Pat Badger and Paul Geary were all for it, but Cherone was very non-committal and Nuno flat-out refused to take part, so no big Extreme reunion gig at the end of the show. Bummer. Maybe Nuno just didn't want to play "More Than Words" for the zillionth time?

From: Fat Freddy Date: January 28, 2004 at 15:56
Oh, and just for the record... loved the first Extreme album, loved "Pornograffiti," thought this one was just OK, and hated "Waiting For The Punchline" so much that I traded it away after only owning it for about a week.

From: rockinmyassoff Date: January 28, 2004 at 16:28
In knew going in that Nuno would not do it. Pat, the alpaca farmer, was my favorite from last night's show. He seemed like a pretty cool and down-to-earth guy and wanted to get back together. As for this cd, I have it but haven't listened to it in years and could not tell you one thing about it...obviously, it didn't leave any impression on me.

From: Fat Freddy Date: January 28, 2004 at 18:40
Yeah, Pat the alpaca farmer was pretty funny... those things are cute, too, aren't they? I didn't know that Geary is now managing Godsmack, Cold and other nu-metal bands... I would assume that means he's probably making WAY more money than he ever did in Extreme...

From: Jester Date: February 18, 2004 at 16:07
I think this is one of Extreme's better albums. I like Pornograffitti, but I find myself skipping more songs on that one than this one. More Than Words, When I First Kissed You, Song For Love are all "skippers" in my book. I only skip Seven Sundays off this one, I hate that song. It's wayyyy too cheesy. The last 3 subsongs are some of their best work. Far beyond any hair band, and far beyond anything done on Pornograffitti.

From: red Date: February 29, 2004 at 1:26
Very good album, I didn't think it was that different from Pornograffiti. Very stylish, I think it was their best written album. It came out at the wrong time. The first two came out when metal/hard rock was still strong and this one came almost a year after grunge had started to push metal bands out of the way.

The Best Extreme Album!! and as for self indulgent, Most all Muscians are self indulgent. They are into it for thier own musical likes. I Love this album and it was done very well...Cherone is one of the best singers ever! He has a Voice (although he was not good with Van Halen)and Bettencourt is Excellent! IMHO they went downhill after this album!

The album is admirably ambitious, and I like the unique title track, but overall this is rather tame next to the rocking debut album.

From: Bundy Date: March 10, 2004 at 0:44
This was an excellent album. The only people Extreme lost by making this concept album, were the ridiculous masses that could only latch on to the mindless drivel ballads "More Than Words" or "Hole Hearted" or radio friendly songs like "Get the Funk Out". This album was more representative of what the band is actually about. Intelligent and introspective with the high points being "Peacemaker Die"(The solo still gives me goosebumps),"Tragic Comic"(A brilliantly crafted tune. It should have been

From: John Date: March 10, 2004 at 18:18
Ditto on what Bundy said.

From: Date: April 3, 2004 at 8:32
Bad album, production was just awful... if a good song has poor production... it has poor impact, this isn't really the Extreme sound. It's... Unextreme.

From: PJMuso Date: April 3, 2004 at 10:32
production bad?? Different ears here different things! lol. I personally feel Extreme took a flyer with this one...a lot more experimental. There are some killer tunes on this if only you allow them to develop long enough. Not as instant as Pornografitti but there's more scope on offer here. The last 3 tracks for me,"Everything under the sun" are just an awesome concept. I can listen to these over & over again. Arty...maybe but they were brave enough to showcase their talents with this album.

From: Big Papa K Date: June 13, 2004 at 0:37
Well this album has one thing going for it. You get a lot (80+ plus minutes) for a little (usually can be bought used for a couple dollars). Actually, the rock songs are all very strong with some good lyrics. The ballads, like the last album are either pretty good or pretty bad. The final track is a little too self indulgent. 7/10

From: me Date: July 3, 2004 at 10:42
great cd!!

From: jack Date: July 20, 2004 at 3:30
While i have to admit nuno is one hell of a guitarist, maybe almost as good as my favourite guitarist, george lynch but Extreme still is only an average band in my book. Come on ,lets face it ,the singer is terrible. I would prefer bret michaels to GARY any day and bret is one of my least favourite vocalist. I'll never listen to another of extreme's album again!

From: jack Date: July 20, 2004 at 3:33
Well, maybe i'll just give it a few more try!Its not everyday u can find such a talented and good guitarist.

From: howe Date: January 12, 2005 at 19:47
Out of this world!!! This album is unique and unparalleled. Very eccletic. 10/10

From: John Date: February 3, 2005 at 12:02
Not as immediate as its predecessor. Nuno and company concentrate on comples arrangements and themes that are off the beaten path. That said, Nuno absolutely shreds on this album without ever wandering into the 'wank' zone that some guitarist enter. This is an opus with something new to hear on each spin. Solid 10/10.

From: Geoff Date: March 1, 2005 at 6:02
More great guitar sounds, but IMO even worse songs than the other two discs. An original and unique band, but I never got into them and only bought this because I found it for a couple of dollars. I sold it and hated it... just poor songs, IMO.

From: Harry Date: March 6, 2005 at 18:14
Poor songs??? Man, this is one of those classic albums, like Mr Big's Bump Ahead, Queensryche's Empire, Dream Theater's Images and Words... No foolish party hard rock with ridiculous lyrics and worn out formulas! Many people hate these kind of albums because they make you think, not just shake your head! 10/10

From: John Date: March 7, 2005 at 10:46
Dead on Harry. Anyone that doesn't appreciate this album's songs can be easily categorized as someone who likes their AOR/Hard Rock safe and formulaic. The songs on this album are brilliant and people that don't hear it aren't listening. Some of Extreme's best background vocals are on 'Color Me Blind'. This is Nuno's shining moment as far as a musician, but more importantly, as a songwriter. it's a masterpiece plain and simple. 11/10

From: JF Date: May 5, 2006 at 17:17

From: christian Date: June 27, 2006 at 12:13
Extreme!!!!! The best funky metal band of the world. This album is a masterpiece. I know about a reunion of the band....EUREKA. by Italy

From: juan carlos Date: April 28, 2007 at 19:05

From: z4roxx Date: July 22, 2007 at 11:24
Where is masterpiece here? This is boring, full of fillers of the baddest type, yes well played and produced but this isn't all in an album guys...Sincerely I don't if hold or sell this one,too few decent song for my tastes,6/10.

From: girapolli Date: July 24, 2007 at 19:30
agree with mr. z4roxx about it, very boring release and that's too long seems to be same way van halen fall down in their musical career...after a couple of strong efforts 6,5/10

From: ninjapeter Date: January 3, 2009 at 21:01
This is a good one but this is a lot more mellow than the previous two which I prefer. Mellow isn't a bad thing but this one has a bit too much mellow on it. It has the tendency to put me to sleep mentally. Unlike other mellow songs from other bands I find this a bit boring. I rate this a 75/100.

From: hair metal again Date: February 17, 2010 at 8:43
i guess you cant ask for something more.this is so perfect, it has always been.thanks guys

From: rockhardrock Date: January 22, 2011 at 16:00
my second favourite record by extreme. these guys really deserved to be famous but unfurtunately only as a one hit wonder with the song more than words. this one has like their 2 previous albums all you want and need, hard rockers and ballads. my personal faves: rest in peace, warheads, am I ever gonna change and stop the world.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: May 10, 2011 at 15:29
Many mixed comments above(good and bad ones)which i entirely respect...IMHO this album is a monster!!!...not in a bad but in a good way!!! ...great songs(some of them were "hits" back in the day) such as "Warheads"(Kick a**),"Rest In Peace","Color Me Blind"(great!),"Cupid's Dead"(great!),"Our Father"(great!)& "Everything Under The Sun"(lovely kinda epic track!)...Gary Cherone doing great vocally talking & Nuno Bettencourt playing his guitar the way he does that perfectly fixed into Badger & Geary...it matched really well this team in here...my rate is gonna be great...95/100

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: May 17, 2013 at 14:55
Not as heavy or fun as the first two albums, as the band adds strings, more horns, some softer guitar tones, and a big "concept" about something or other. "Warheads," "Rest In Peace," and "Color Me Blind" still retain some swagger, and "Stop The World" and "Am I Ever Gonna Change" are nice mellower moments. As a whole though, the album is just trying to do a little too much.

From: Auslander Date: April 7, 2020 at 22:52
I played this album to death when it first came out. Some great tracks on it. Rest in Peace, Tragic Comic, Stop the World and my all time favourite Extreme track: Am I Ever Gonna Change. Apparently it was a concept album but I never worried about that. I just liked the music. How would I describe it? Intelligent hard rock? Pop metal for Pink Floyd fans? I see a lot of people here didn't like it, that's cool. But, for some reason, I loved this album, and still do.
