There are 5 new tracks here and 11 huge live tracks recorded over five years between 1992 and 1997. Great to hear some of the old tunes getting a spin and the live recording is excellent. The new tunes are much like one would expect. nothing has changed for Helix and Brian sounds in particular good vocal touch. All fans of Helix should have this. |

Man do I enjoy live releases recorded in a club type atmosphere. Helix's new songs aren't great, but they're still better than what you'd get from most other bands that play this style. The live setlist is awesome. The spontenaiety is obvious and Vollmer's vocals transfer to the live show quite admirably. I'm not a ballad guy, but 'Good To The Last Drop' always gets me humming. |

Since this CD contains both new studio tracks and live ones, the band undoubtedly thought they were being oh so clever by naming it "Half Alive," but while they may be good rock musicians, they kind of suck at math, because a more accurate album title would be "Two Thirds Alive," since only 5 of the 16 songs are studio tracks. Personally, I hate live albums like a cop hates missing his morning donut, but the new tunes are pretty good, about what you would expect from Helix. The album title still bugs me though...what ever happened to truth in advertising? |
