Just as bad as number 2 but goes one better by including Live And Let Die, which has to be the worst cover version I have ever heard. Hearing this just makes me want to kick the living crap out of Axel.

From: Stu Date: June 13, 2001 at 23:33
Agree with MonkeyNuts,..,. My Favorite tracks are: 1,2,4,9,10,11,12,and 16.

From: Mike S. Date: June 23, 2001 at 18:01
I'd like kick the living crap out of MonkeyNuts as he has no idea what he's talking about. Although Use your illusion 2 is better, this is still good. BTW, the worst version of Live and Let Die you've ever heard? Please.

From: Dusty Date: July 11, 2001 at 20:45
I agree with Mike S MonkeyNuts you fucking suck.G'N'R rules Use Your Illusion 2 is kick ass but Use Your Illusion is more memorable.

From: LA LA LA Boy Date: October 9, 2001 at 20:12
Tracks 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 13, 14 and 15! Don't Damn Me roxxxxx!!!

From: Rockhead Date: October 11, 2001 at 19:47
They could have made 1 average cd out of both of these poor cd's. Over half the songs on both are just to fill the empty space.

From: jog Date: December 14, 2001 at 0:43
A very good rock album, they still show that they are they best rock outfit on the planet. They have developed since Appetite…into a much bigger band. I wouldn't be without this album. Many of these songs speak about the psyche of our times and it rocks as well!

From: koogles Date: January 3, 2002 at 7:51
Bloated and ambitious, had GnR combined the best tracks from Use Your Illusions I and II, they would have had a second masterpiece on their hands. As it stands, you have two good albums instead of one great one. I'll take II over I though, despite the fact that best track ('November Rain') is on this one.

From: pronto Date: January 12, 2002 at 10:45
You would have to use an illusion to make this album sound good.A great band gone bad.So sad.

From: el colebrom Date: July 6, 2002 at 14:21
este disco so ayuda a limpiar el culo!

From: Rockforever Date: July 24, 2002 at 13:30
Guns N' Roses returned in triumphant fashion 4 years after their fucking awesome debut (one of the best albums of all time) with a huge two-volume follow-up,the Use Your Illusions set. This rocks harder than II,but isn't as epic.Contrary to many critics, there is very very little filler here or on II.The only track I don't care for here is Garden of Eden.Other alleged fillers (The Garden,Bad Apples,Back Off Bitch) are all great tunes.Great playing (especially drums from Matt); great record.

From: Rockforever Date: July 24, 2002 at 13:34
Oh and by the way, this album also contains two of my favourite songs of all time, namely Coma and November Rain. Coma's riff is in my opinion quite Black Sabbath-influenced,while the song also had progressive elements. And a marvellous solo to boot. November Rain is awesome, clearly influenced by Elton John. Also slightly progressive, with excellent piano playing, and THREE

From: Rockforever Date: July 24, 2002 at 13:34
Yes, THREE great solos from axemeister Slash. Buy this fucking record.

From: Baris Date: September 13, 2002 at 8:38
For me both 'Use Your Illusion' albums unfortunately fall far behind the 'Appetite..'. No matter there are two CDs, even if there would be ten, 'Use Your Illusion' is a GNR MEDIOCRE. It's like they are telling their fans 'Hey, get these two and don't bother us anymore!'. Whatever how this is marketed I miss the first fantastic album and it was once-in-a-life-time stuff. Sorry friends, releasing two albums with indefinite number of songs at once doesn't necessarily mean GREATNESS or MASTERPIECE.

From: jarett r. Date: October 21, 2002 at 22:05
before guns'n'roses, dizzy reed was in the wild. does anyone here know whether or not the wild ever recorded?

From: MALLORCA´S ROCK Date: December 30, 2002 at 13:44

From: Slash Date: January 21, 2003 at 0:44
Guns N' Roses are by far the best band of all-time. Both these albums are great. UYI is the hard, fast, kick-ass album, while UYII is the slower, more subtle compliment to the first, but it's got some great song's. The only song I really don't like is 'My World', the rest are great. Slash has got to be one of the best and most talented guitarists to ever pick up a guitar, talk about explosive!

From: chris Date: March 25, 2003 at 18:41
gnr are fucking epic monkeynuts u dont have a clue, gnr have done some excellent stuff and use ur illusion is some of the best, jesus monkeynuts you must be elka u r a fucking sb londontings

From: John Date: August 14, 2003 at 14:00
Personally, I think 'Dead Horse' is the best song the band has ever done on any album. There's definitely some filler here, but this band was a leader, not a follower on most of this stuff. Innovative ideas, some of which stuck (November Rain & Coma) and some didn't (Perfect Crime & Double Talkin' Jive).

From: RR-Finland Date: September 2, 2003 at 14:52
I think this one is bit better than second 'Use'. Second album has 'Sweet Child..' and 'Civil War' and those are my fav songs, but this one has more solid tracklist. Right Next..,Live And Let Die, Back of Bitch, November Rain etc. Also Alice Cooper and Michael Monroe are good bonus for this record. November Rain has so f*ckin great guitar part in the end of that song, that I can´t keep my airguitar in it´s (air)case! Great releases both of these cd´s!

From: gnr rule Date: January 2, 2004 at 12:42
Both albums are fucking ace. Buy them, love them, listen to them always.

Why couldn't they have let that cover just live and let die? The Beatles' version even sucks donkey's balls. 1,4 and 10 are great songs, the rest, except for "Live...", are OK but just average.

From: jack Date: May 25, 2004 at 6:29
This album is the gun'n'roses's third best album after appetite and use your illusion 2. I think'live and let die'ruined this album. Axl sucks singing this type of songs.Paul mccartney is more suited for this song. But axl is much better singing hard rock/metallic songs like bad obsession and bad apples!Don't cry and november rain are two of the best hard rock/metal ballads in the early 90's. Gun'n'Roses may not be thebestband of the 90's but this album is one os thebest in that decade.

From: Big Papa K Date: June 26, 2004 at 23:55
Although another strong album, the two ballads "Don't Cry" and "November Rain" are so far ahead of everything else, that it is tough to remember much about the other songs. Most of the rockers are decent, but nothing special compared to "Appetite For Destruction". The cover is poor, and is a Paul McCartney solo track, not one by "The Beatles". 7/10

From: jack Date: July 21, 2004 at 4:48
Strange as it seem but i think most of the baalad released by hair or glam metal band always fared better whether in the charts or in the eyes of the fan, than their heavier and non-ballad song! There are countless no. of hit ballads than others. look at All the gun'n'roses's ballad, from sweet child o mine to november rain!

From: Metal Jay Date: August 3, 2004 at 19:33
In one of the earlier postings I saw someone say say take the best of both I and II and make a compilation. Funny, the CD I have is a compilation of I and II. I have never seen it anywhere else. Am I missing something? The cover is half the blue and purple and half the yellow and red. It's just called "Use Your Illusion" Any Ideas?

From: Joan Date: September 10, 2004 at 16:28

From: Propane Date: December 2, 2004 at 18:33
This one sucks and I can't stand the Beatles.

From: roses Date: December 23, 2004 at 19:56
Good album, love November Rain and Dont Cry, great guitar work and vocals.

From: Gunchick Date: December 23, 2004 at 19:58
Its worth getting this album just for november rain!

From: Geoff Date: February 16, 2005 at 4:29
This is the weaker of the two and I think most would agree that if the guys were thinking right they'd just have released a single disc of 'Use your illusion' and made another all time classic. 'November rain' is undoubtedly a stunning track and deserves it's high status, 'Back off bitch' is a cool hard rock track, 'Don't cry' is a highlight again, but all they needed were 10 tracks of these two albums to make one gem, IMO.

From: Rikki R Date: February 22, 2005 at 20:06
Blows away Illusion 2 out of the water because of the heavy songs - Coma, Don't Damn Me, Perfect Crime, Right Next Door, Double Talkin' Jive. Just to name a few. And Izzy had more contributions on this one than on part 2. The last song is the defining GN'R epic of all time. If they made one Illusion album that was sequenced to be the true APPETITE followup minus November Rain fluff, COMA would be the goddamn single! Radio would not have the balls to play it. But Lonn Friend did back in 1993!

From: MIGUEL GUNS Date: April 4, 2005 at 17:21
RECUERDO Q CUANDO ME COMPRE LOS DOS VOLUMENES Y LOS PUSE (PRIMERO EL I) FLIPE CON Right Next Door to Hell, LUEGO ME QUEDE DECEPCIONADO CON ALGUNAS CANCIONES, Q PARA MI NO ERAN EL SONIDO GN'R). PIENSO Q CON ESTOS DISCOS SE PIERDE LA CHISPA DEL APPETITE Y EL LIES. COMO DICEN POR ARRIBA DEBIO SER UN UNICO VOLUMEN Y COMO MUCHO METER LAS CANCIONES MAS FLOJAS COMO CARAS B. OTRA COSA, LAS VERSIONES MALAS MALAS, YA PODRIAN HABER METIDO DOWN ON THE FARM Y ATTITUDE AQUI Y LAS OTRAS PARA DIRECTOS.

From: mauricio Date: May 15, 2006 at 12:57

From: Scrounger Date: July 22, 2008 at 12:14
1, 5, 7 & 10. That's it. Utter garbage otherwise and extremely overrated. "Appetite..." was the be all, end all.

From: metalhead4life Date: December 13, 2008 at 19:57
I can't believe the low ratings for the Use Your Illusions and even Lies. GNR were unique with attitude. They also had some very good and kick ass songs on this one. They deserve more credit than a 71/100 that is for sure. 92/100 from me.

From: lancer2430 Date: April 27, 2010 at 1:24
Proof of Axl Rose's genius talen with Slash melodic and hard sound in this double Album. All songs capture a new spectrum of hard rock and harmony. Not a bad song to my taste. I probably will never find in my life a double album in this high level of quality and creativity. Among my top 20 album. I give it 10/10. Grab one or do anything to have this one.

From: Wardy Date: December 16, 2010 at 21:03
I purchased both these again recently to give it all another go but... ok Appetite was fine but tried too hard to push the image (I wasn't convinced by those alleged 'non dressed up' sleeve pics), yet the music managed to capture a hungry band & some of its tracks remain absolute classics no mistake... but both Illusions (reviewing I & II together here, II being the better), kinda pushed the other way, most accusing em of being overblown. But I think that was the draw card, the epics doing more than the rockers (of which there really are little, except say YouCouldBeMine & personal fave PrettyTiedUp & CivilWar knocks em all dead), but when it isn't on rare occasion rocking or blowing out on epic, it's mostly boogie & blues. Sure, lots to like, but had they say combined the two to make one then we'd have truly memorable. Hey, the novelty worked, they sold tons but for me Spread Eagle were doing the heavy better while Cinderella were doing the stadium blues better. Overrated? Perhaps!

From: rockhardrock Date: January 22, 2011 at 17:46
this one is closer to their debut sound than uyi part two but that doesn't mean that uyi part two is worse, I just want to say that this one has more hard rocking songs. my faves: live and let die, don't cry, back off bith, november rain and coma.

From: hair metal again Date: March 31, 2012 at 1:49
now what can you say about this one?pure hard rock perfection and surely an all time classic that was huge back in 91 and got big airplay !all the songs are unique, great groove ,excellent musicianship and fine hard rockin attitude!100/100

From: edwithmj Date: May 19, 2012 at 13:28
Slightly better than the second one but again, both could easily be condensed to one album if all the filler were removed. Live and Let Die is quite good but it sounds contrived coming from Axl, Don't Cry is a great ballad and shows what could've been achieved here. I can barely remember how the rest of the album goes despite having heard it several tens of times. Back off Bitch is OK and so is Double Talkin' Jive. November Rain is another great ballad and a real winner. The rest is pish with Coma being particularly awful. The two ballads are worth the album but the others are dreadful.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: May 19, 2012 at 18:10
Edwithmj: One reason "Don'tv Cry" is so much better than most of the rest is that it was actually one of the first songs the band ever wrote. You can hear it, in various forms, on bootlegs from '85 and '86. In any case, the Use Your Illlusion albums, released on the same day to a level of hype that was unheard of at the time, are about sixteen songs too long, as you, and maybe others, have pointed out. much less sleazy, much more overblown than Appetite For Destruction, and more's the pity. Axl aspires to a Queen-like level of bombast, with very mixed results. Without leaving out any of the songs that wound up being singles, my picks from this album are "Dust 'n' Bones," "Live And Let Die," 'Don't Cry," "Bad Obsession," "Back Off Bitch," "November Rain' (though not a personal favorite of mine--too fuckin' long!) and "Garden Of Eden."

From: titothetitan Date: October 19, 2017 at 15:38
The album looks like a collection of bad demos. And sixteen songs is too many. Most of the songs are boring and I get annoyed of Axl's voice after sometime. 'Don't Cry' and 'November Rain' are great. I can't remember the rest.
