Bob Rock back on board was hoping for a return to a BeyondGood&Evil sound instead TheCult continue on not too far a departure from ChoiceOfWeapon but the material is overall stronger. Opener DarkEnergy easily the best Cult in eons, it's tasty riff encapsulates both the Electric and Self-titled eras (TheWitch comes to mind) yet no more so than GOAT which has Electric tucked into it's every note & Hinterland is prime-time Cult, Duffy's guitars during the chorus sounding both new and old, worth the price alone that one. While maybe not as instant tracks such as NoLoveLost Avalanche & Heathens demand repeats & DeeplyOrderedChaos is class in both music & lyric although at times Astbury's Doors / NickCave-isms might outstay their welcome!? Regardless, Hidden city is the most solid outing from TheCult in years. Killer songs, performances, huge sound, and LOVE the cover art! Rating a solid 8 perhaps an 8.5 hmmm... |

Another beer coaster...this makes 3 Cult frisbees in a row.Uninspired drivel. In 'No Love Lost' Astbury even manages to throw in some useless leftwinger propaganda :"Hands Up Don't Shoot"...lofl! Time to call it a day, stick a fork in em' they're DONE! |

Agreed: Beyond Good And Evil was the last remotely interesting Cult album (annd pretty good at that). But "Hands up, don't shoot." So ... how's that "left-winger propaganda?" Or is it just a hair-trigger knee-jerk on the part of one listener? |
