this is a very good album..but it never has gotten the respect it deserved..it came out in 94' and at that time if a band didn't sound like Pearl Jam radio and MTV dissed and ignored you...I will never forgive MTV for turning it's back on rock music..

Cinderella are a favourite band of mine and this album doesn't disappoint. Kind of between Long cold winter and Heartbreakstation, glad they made this one and hope they keep makin more. Hard rockin at its best.

Check out 'The Road's Still Long', 'Through The Rain', 'Still Climbing' and 'Freewheelin''--you won't be disappointed. 'Still Climbing' is A MUST for fans of Cinderella and eighties hard rock fanatics. 'Still..' really makes up for their lackluster 'Heartbreak Station' which had very few good songs on it--'Still Climbing', on the other hand, has a bunch. Buy it before it goes out of print (if it hasn't already). Good songs, solid playing, well-written songs and stellar production = an 8.6/10.

Good album that falls a bit short of greatness. 'All Comes Down' is a great, fun track, but the first single 'Bad Attitude Shuffle' is pretty dull. More rocking than the previous album, but still a bit tame compared to Long Cold Winter. The ballads are a bit sub-par given their previous efforts.

Four years after Heartbreak Station the boys turn the heat back up! I would say that this is Cinderella's most 'in your face' album since Night Songs. 'Bad Attitude Shuffle' really tells you the mood of this record. There is a few mellow tunes on here, but all in all it's a very hard hitting album.

Great Album but a really bad year to come out,it had the same faith than Winger's Pull, Tesla's Bust A Nut, L.A Guns's Vicious Circle and many others, you can blame 'Grunge Music ' here.

Better than 'Heartbreak Station'. I agree that it's an unlucky record relesed in grunge outbreak. So WRONG TIMING. In my opinion this should be released at just the beginning of 90s in stead of 'Heartbreak Station'.

This is Cinderella at their best. I took a chance when this one came out and bought it hoping it wasn't going to be another 'heartbreak' and i'm glad I did. Top notch blues rock from this album. If you enjoyed the first two cd's by this band you must get this one any way you can. It must be heard by everyone who got down after the Heartbreak fiasco

Man, did this album ever get buried when it came out. The label put absolutely no support behind it. Very good album though. Originally the band was supposed to do a nationwide search to replace Fred Coury on drums, but they ended up using studio vet Kenny Aronoff.

The above ratings are pretty spot on. Came out at just the WORST time imaginable and just got completely lost. Our gain though in that this is just a great album with Cinderella comfortable in who they are and just kicking out the jams. You can tell Tom was influenced by Skynrd and southern rock at the time ('Hard To Find..') and if you enjoyed their other cd's there's no reason you won't dig this one! One of those classics buried in the 'grunge' explosion.

By the time this album was released the hair metal/glam wave was long gone, so nobody listened. Too bad because this album was far superior to HEARTBREAK STATION, more in line with the first two albums. The diehards bought it but nobody else did. Shame, they missed out on some good stuff.

Absolutley KILLER! This cd is Cinderellas best. I thought Cinderella were losing it after Heartbreak Station that cd was so mellow it almost sounded like country in parts. Then this cd comes out it's like Night Songs but way heavier! Too bad this cd came out in 94, had it come out in 91 maybe 92 it would have been a hit. Grunge and mtv made it a failure now all Cinderella does is make live cds and greatest hits. At least I always have this cd for some cool in your face metal.

Big Papa K- Dig this out a give it a few spins, maybe at work. I find it helpful to have things play while I work so I'm not forced to have an opinion right away. This disc is book-ended by 2 typical hair tracks (Shuffle and Hot/Bothered) but the stuff between is incredible. 'All Comes Down', 'Talk is Cheap', and 'Freewheelin' are Cinderella fully realized. I too ignored this one for years, but am glad I decided to give it another try.

What an underrated album! It came out in the worst period for a hard rock band (1994, during the reign of grunge), but it remains one of the finest examples of Cinderella's songwriting and ability, more focused and mature than the already good 'Heartbreak Station'. Very well produced, too. If you manage to find it, it's worth the money!

Great album released at the wrong time. 'Blood From A Stone', 'Bad Attitude Shuffle', and 'Still Climbing' are excellent tunes that rock with the best from the band. 'Through The Rain' seems like a logical 'Don't Know What You Got' part II, but is done with class nonetheless. This doesn't seem to have a weak link on it. I highly recommend this regardless of when it was released. This is as far from grunge as you could get. Cinderella never jumped on the bandwagon. Great stuff.

playing rock in the same area as Cinderella, must of saw them over 100 times in small clubs, this album is a good one, probably next to Winter and the debut!!!! The cool thing on this album is that Hot and Bothered and Easy Come are early songs they used to play before they made it. BAttitude, Rain, Climbing and Road are great songs. I find that this is the Cinderella I play more than the others, great album!!!

Tom Kieffer is such an amazing song writer and guitar player. I saw them a few years ago on one of the hair band tours. They just plain kicked ass that night. I would love to see them again. Their music was made to be heard live. Just a great rock band period. I would love to hear some new stuff. I thought Kevin Valentine played drums on this.

Certainly more of a nod to hard rock than the last album Heartbreak Station. But they still haven't lost the knack of writing good songs. However, they aren't quite as strong as their earlier work. But that's being a tad picky! Still Climbing is a welcome return from these guys, and in the midst of grunge at the time, was a welcome record to hard rock! Hot And Bothered, Bad Attitude Shuffle and Through The Rain are the highlights! 8/10....

Released at a bad time, but don't you worry, hard rock is on the come back, fuck indie and whatever else MTV seems to be playing at the moment: Crashdiet, Sonic X, Loud 'N' Nasty, Avenged Sevenfold, Fahrenheit, Private Line - bands bringing real metal back. At the end of the day, there are alot of fans out there who still listen to 80's rock and the more bands out there doing it, the more chance of us seeing its return...so go out there, and make rock n roll bands and show them how its done.

Cinderella's 1st record was a blessing, their 2nd was a spellbinding masterpiece, and their 3rd was a cursed piece of crap, so what do they do for their 4th? Well, for starters, prove that sometimes the 4th time's the charm, as well as prove that they've still got their hard rock chops intact. Released when grunge was climbing the charts, this album failed to connect with most mainstream music buyers (f*ck 'em!), but was a welcome addition to the collection of loyal Cinderella fans everywhere.

This is better than the debut and the lacklustre, bluesy bollocks that was 'Heartbreak Station'. I haven't listened to it for a while, but that's not because it's not good, it is, I've just had other albums to listen to. It's definitely a return to the style of 'Long Cold Winter' and all the better for it. I suspect as well that it didn't sell awfully well on it's release, coming out in the middle of grunge and after such a poor album. Incidentally, it's such a pity to see their (relatively small) back catalogue plundered in the way that it has been. Rehashed 'best of' albums turn me cold and Cinderella seem to have suffered more than most. There you go, rant over.

One of the more overlooked albums of the hair era. Since it was released in late 1994, it got very little attention. Radio airplay was minimal, and according to the band, MTV flatly refused to promote it either. A shame, because you could argue that it's the band's best album. Definitely more in the vein of Long Cold Winter than the mellower Heartbreak Station, maybe kind of a mix between the two, soundwise. 'Bad Attitude Shuffle' was a poor choice for first single, mainly because the first 90 seconds sound like your radio station is fading out, but once it gets going, it's a good, upbeat rocker. Other good ones include 'All Comes Down,' 'Blood From A Stone' and 'Easy Come Easy Go.' 'Talk Is Cheap' and 'Freewheelin'' are leftovers from the early days. There are three ballads, all different, but all good, 'Through The Rain' being the most like the band's hits of old.

I read somewhere that Tom Keifer had to punch in his vocals one line at a time, as he was dealing with serious vocal issues at the time. His high-pitched voice actually sounds pretty good, but he's singing in a different, deeper voice than what you heard on old songs like 'Nobody's Fool' or 'Heartbreak Station.' The only weak track, or maybe one that just seems a little out of place, is 'Hot And Bothered,' originally from the Wayne's World soundtrack, and presumably a leftover from the previous album. I like the song, don't get me wrong, but it seems a bit more lighthearted and party-hearty than the other songs on this release.

'Buitre' makes a good point about lack of ambition by this band. They are still around today, but with no new material, unless you count Keifer's solo album, which took like forever to complete by all accounts.
|
From: Doghouse Reilly |
Date: August 30, 2013 at 17:28 |
I agree. The band have given various excuses over the years as to why they haven't produced any new material. Supposedly, they were working on a new album for John Kalodner's Portrait Records in '99, but Kalodner himself heard the songs and scrapped them. (I've heard that some of them have reappeared on TOm's solo record.) The band have cited everything from legal problems to Tom's voice as a reason, but by this point, it would seem both have been resolved years ago. They're just lazy, and in 2013, the window's long since closed. If they put out a new record tomorrow, nobody besides us diehards would give a shit. And I say that even with Tom getting on Jay Leno for his solo record, and getting limited airplay on WMMR in his hometown of Philly.

Doghouse Reilly I totally agree with you. They're turning into another Poison. Countless greatest hits and live albums, just packaged differently. I'd like to hear some new material, but I doubt it will ever happen now. Like you said the die-hards are the only ones who would care about it. They must be really lucky to make a living off of four studio albums. I wish that they would put out some new material, but I won't hold my breath.
|
From: Doghouse Reilly |
Date: April 2, 2015 at 19:58 |
Probably a good idea, Ghettonation, not holding your breath. Twenty years is too long to expect even diehards to wait. It would never live up to expectations, assuming one still cared enough to have any. At one point back there, the band sounded like they were waiting for a big label to sign them, because as one of them said, they weere stilll playing amphitheaters. Utterly ridiculous at the time, and completely out of the question now. Frontiers would probably sign 'em, but you know, it's 2015. I think the vast majority of us have found new bands to be excited about, or have given up entirely and just listen to our old cassettes and still hold a festering grudge against Kurt Cobain.

Still Climbing was released in November of 1994, a real tough time to be Cinderella. It was fully four years (almost to the day) since the last album, which was a commercial disappointment, as was the tour. Then Tom lost his voice and had to work very, very hard to get it back. And yet they turned in a damn good record. People who didn't care for Heartbreak Station should have been reassured. But again—November of '94. I remember they played Arizona's in Dover, Delaware, a country bar that had begun booking some rock shows (Dio, Kix, Foghat, the Guess Who, Steppenwolf). The show was on Super Bowl Sunday—had to be dispiriting. (Although, I dunno, I wasn't there—maybe they rocked the house anyway).
|
From: Doghouse Reilly |
Date: July 4, 2023 at 2:56 |
The day of the show, Tom called the local rock station, which had given a few cursory spins for "Bad Attitude Shuffle" (the night jock had some leeway, and liked them). The interview was conducted by a different DJ, who later became the program director and famously hated '80's metal (and most metal, really). He asked Tom what new bands he liked, and the poor guy was stumped (which was probably the intention), although he eventually said he thought Soundgarden were good. I think about those years now, the astronomical twilight of the party-rock years, and there must have been a real "last leaf on the tree" feeling, for fans and bands alike.
