I agree with Scott, don't mind their ultra-glam image. This band knows how to rock. I even think that their blues-based hard rock could have survived the 90's alternative onslaught. Only their looks killed them.

'Cinderella'. A strange name for a glam band, but definitely a name that sticks with anyone who has heard it even once. There is nothing about the band's debut,'Night Songs', that is ground-breaking or earth-shattering. It is just a good rockin' album with not one cheesy ballad in sight. Having said that, let me say that there are dozens upon dozens of 80's bands that should have recieved more attention than Cinderella did but that's just how things went. Cinderella is a good band nevertheless.

richierocker-- I love Cinderella, but they are a bunch of lazy-asses. It has been eight years and these guys have yet to release new material. Poison is releasing a new cd TOMORROW. This tells us something. As far as I am concerned, Poison are much more dedicated to their fans than Cinderella have ever been and that is only part of the reason why Poison are so loved by their fans. The same goes for Tesla and Faster Pussycat--when are these lazy-asses going to release new material?

See now Dokken6008, You are going to get me started! Was Cinderella's album 'Live At The Key Club' from 8 years ago?....NO!...It was 1999! You may say that it is only a live album, but it's their 1st major U.S. release that was live. So they are entitled to call it an album. As far as Tesla goes, they all have been in new band over the past few years. Such as 'Bar 7' (J. Kieth,T. Skeoch), 'Moon Dog Mane' (F. Hannon) & 'Soul Motor' (B. Wheat). Besides, Cinderella & Tesla didn't have a record co.

Hey Dokken6008. Cinderella is definatly dedicated to their fans. I met Jeff Labar before a show in Boston, and he came out of the tour bus , we asked for his autograph and he said' hold on guys just let me take this phone call' He came back gave us autographs and realoly talked to us and listened to us, a really cool guy. Then the rest of the band came out and talked to us. These guys are dedicated and they arent lazy asses. Like I said before they rock harder than Poison they should headline.

I would say this is one of the best rock albums of the 80s. not one bad song and these guys had a unique sound to them that most bands didnt really have. I cant wait to see them again this summer. Until then people, rock on and live it up!!!

I'm down with everything that you guys are saying. I'm not trying to rile anyone up or anything, it just upsets me that we haven't heard any new studio material from Cinderella in such a long time. Yo, hbomb. I never claimed to be a 'professional reviewer' of any sort--I just love good fuckin' rock & roll. What's the problem with that? I think that a lot of material from bands such as Tesla or Cinderella is great. What I get most upset with is when a band continues touring every summer without having produced new material for several years and expects me to respect them for that. Let's make it simple: you either like the music or you don't. Does that make me 'irrational' now?

What I can say is that I am not a newcomer to good music and when I lay down twenty bucks for a cd that turns out to be pile & I am supposed to 'lighten up' on the musicians? You have it all backwards--it is not the fan's duty to remain 'loyal' to a band, it is the BANDS' duty to remain loyal to their fans. We as fans have been fucked over countless times from the likes of Def Lep, F.House, RATT and even DOKKEN. As fans, we have been sodomised, fucked over & thrown out the door too many times.

A must have, and I stress 'must have' because this is one of the best hair metal releases ever. This album is unbelievable! Everything about this album is good. The guitars ,vocals, bass, and drums. The whole nostalgic 80's vibe with attitude is in this album. It has to be in the top of its class, if you ask me. Im going to see these guys for the 4th and 5th times next week. They are a very raw band R.R., is Cinderella not? Just plug into an amp and play. No echo-effects, reverb, programmed sound effects, nothing. A really basic approach to playing live, am I right? At least that is the vibe I pick up when listening to 'Live At the Key Club'....

Great debut. Starts off strong but kind of fizzles out with the last 3 tracks. That said, Cinderella were and still are way ahead of the competition when it comes to making straight ahead rock & roll.

Es verdad que hay q respetar a vocalistas que son practicamente vitalicios en muchos grupos aunque su voz sea una 'perra en celo' y de aqu' sale cinderella.este disco es bueno pero la canci'n nobody's fool es un autentico delirio de grandeza.Recomendable

This has definitley got to be one of the best hair metal albums of the 80s, as well as the best hair metal band, Period! One thing I have always loved about cinderella is that you look at there image and you would expect another pansy ass pop metal hair group like poison, who by the way were the suckiest hair band of the whole decade, but you listen to there music and its heavy, bluesy, and kicks you square in the ass! I love it! This album smokes, from beginning to end. Long live Cinderella!

The cool thing about Cinderella is that they were glammy enough to get the girls, but they rocked hard enough that they appealed to a lot of metalheads as well. This first album is kind of derivative (especially of Bon Scott-era AC/DC) but it was ahead of the hair-band pack back then and it still sounds great now. As they progressed their hair got less puffy but the songs only got better. That's the sign of a good band.

This lot should have stuck to the day jobs at Wendys as they could all have become Crew Chiefs or something by now. Hanoi Rocks showed them how it should be done.

South american 80's heavy metal fan: I think this was a very good album by Cinderella. I really like it because it has all the energy of the 80's bands. The look of the 4 musicians is acording to their music, and the Tom Keifer's voice is great. However, Cinderella's music sounded a litte similar to AC/DC, but there is not a reason to think it could have been a copy of style. The song: 'Hell on wheels' makes me rock really hard. If I ever were to chose from any Cinderella release against any Bon Jovi release, I would choose Cinderella. Theyre far better. Not that BJ is bad, but theyre damn boring. Cinderella's music is straight forward, guitars between your knees Rock N Roll.

Well Im not a new listener, I have about 2500 cd's. More than 90 0s hard rock. Never said I didnt like Bon Jovi, I just find them too melodic, theyre too much of a 'mainstream' band and rely on making ballads. Sorry, thats my opinion, no offence. I have the BJ cd's you mention, but havent listened to them for a while. Theyre not bad, just not interesting. I have all Cinderella releases and listen to them frequently. About your last remark, I take that as a sign that youre really not that old.?

I agree with Great Dane here. Bon Jovi is good, definately will not turn it off if it's on the radio, but find it lacks a little something compared to the other big bands (say in this case Cinderella-which they're more rockin I think). I like 80's Jovi,and I know there are people that love him so much and will say no band of the era can touch them, but to me Cinderella gets the nod here for my musical tastes. By the way this is probably the best Cinderella record there is, followed by Long Cold.

Erhh, calling Bon Jovi a hard rock band isnt right in my world. theyre a soft rock band, but thats a matter of opinion. If I were to give an advise to a new listener of Hard Rock, I wouldnt mention BJ. But rather bands like Aerosmith, Van Halen, Kiss, Uriah Heep, Rainbow, and Whitesnake even Sweet & Slade. Bands who did it all many years before BJ. Dont misunderstand me, I LIKE BJ, but to me, theyre overrated. End of discussion.We will probably never aggree on this. Lets move on to other bands.

Bon Jovi found Cinderella, helped them get their record deal, took them on tour and helped break them. Had it nt been for Bon Jovi-Cinderella could easily have ended up 'also rans' in a big field. Just as Bon Jovi helped Skid Row-he also helped these. Don't be puzzled. Jon and Ritchie also appeared in the home video Cinderella put out showcasing the video's for Nightsongs

Heavier album than the cover would make you think. 'Somebody Save Me', 'Shake Me', and 'Push Push' are all great hard rockers while 'Nobody's Fool' is one of my favorite 80's power ballads. 7/10

This screams hard rock from the moment 'Night Songs' kicks into gear. Very AC/DC minded but not a clone mond you. They have their own identity and power. 'Someboby Save Me', 'Shake Me', 'Night Songs' and 'Push Push' are infectious rockers but the real crown jewel is the power ballad 'Nobody's Fool'. Recommended. 9.0/10.

Is there a better glam album? I think not. This was 'THE' album to have back when it was released, and these guys stiff perform the hell out of these tunes. I love this band. They define the 80's for me, and when I speak of the 80's, it's with nothing but fondness.

What make the difference with Cinderella is that there is real song writting, not only easy party music like. Kiefer is a song writer of quality. And he is a glam death vocalist. What ???? Yes, it is just to emphasize the fact that alternates closed throat and clear vocals. See what I mean ?

Sleaze glam??? Obviously it's some so called 'expert' who categorizes these things. Whatever. This is an EXTREMELY talented lot. I saw them once and I've been hoping to see them again for quite awhile. Hard working, true to their roots musicians. Buy everything that has their name onit, no matter what it is.

Great debut recording. I remember this (album) very well when it was first released in the Fall of 1986. Shake Me and Nobody's Fool are fantastic back-to-back tracks. However, Somebody Save Me and Push Push are my personal favorites. Take a trip down memory lane and revisit this one tonight!

Awesome debut! This is one of those discs you can put on and listen to every track without hassle. Killer hard rock riffs one after another. Not my fave vocalist, but when the music's this good we'll let is slide. 'Nobody's Fool' is a brilliant ballad and of the rest, 'Nuthin' For Nuthin', the killer 'Once Around The Ride', 'Hell On Wheels', the other real gem - 'Somebody Save Me' and 'Back Home Again' are some of my faves. But this is a great 80's hard rock disc.

I'm a big 80's hard rock fan, and I can't believe I've never really explored this band! This is some of the greatest stuff of the whole genre! I don't actually have this album yet, but I got their collection Rocked, Wired & Bluesed (my first Cinderella album) the other day and it begins with the three first tracks from this album. I just can't get the opening riff of 'Night Songs' out of my head!! And I love Kiefer's voice, it reminds me a bit of Brian Johnson, but not quite as raw. Excellent!!!

Another underated artist if there ever was one! This debut does have 4 of the best hard rock anthems you will hear, Shake Me, Push Push, Nobody's Fool and Somebody Save Me! Nothing like Bon Jovi, but discovered by them, these guys have more of a bluesy feel. However this is there most glam/hard rock album they released. I felt besides the 4 killer tracks, the rest of the album wasn't quite as good. But still a very worthy album in the collection. And a great debut! 8/10....

Man, I was 16 and headbangin' when this one came out. These guys to over the scene by storm (with a little help from Bon Jovi) and left you wanting for more. My favorites on this one are 'Somebody Save Me' and 'Nobody's Fool'. Classic stuff.

Their band-name and image might make you think this is straight-ahead glam, but once the guitars start cranking and Keifer starts rasping, you'll realize this is glam/hair-metal mixed with bona-fide hard rock, and easily one of the most-beloved debuts in 80s hard rock/metal history, though I personally think there's too many fillers to call this a classic. Still, strip away the fillers, and the remaining songs are stone-cold fantastic, sporting enough energy to rock you right through the night.

1st of all I HATE THE ALBUM COVER, it gives a wrong idea about the band. 2nd and most important I love the music herein.The first 3 songs are classic 80's hard rock, My favourite is 'Nothin' For Nothin''. '...Save Me' lyrics are make sense even today.I am a little dissaponted abot the fact that FRed Coury don't acualy played on the album and that some guitar tracks were recorded by some guy named Barry Benedetta. This is a great debut, but all in all I think 'Long Cold Winter' is their zenith.

First off for me, the Bon Jovi anything here, is the fact that Jon helped this band get going. That's really about it, because they sure as hell don't sound like Bon Jovi. This is more staight up rock n roll with an AC/DC flair. Sure it's not the most ground breaking debut of the 80's, but it does has some killer songs on it. 'Shake Me', 'Nobody's Fool', and 'Somebody Save Me' were all MTV and radio staples in their time. Shame the rest is so inconsistant. Could have been great. Instead just ok.

l liked that record when i first heard it, but now after all these times i just cant understand why i liked it soo much. this defenitely is not bad album, it has 4 great songs. there is superb power ballad 'Nobody's Fool',great rockers 'Shake Me' and 'Push, Push' and my personal fav. song by cinderella 'Somebody Save Me'. Other songs on that record are not so good, they are not so catchy and thats probably why i dont like it very much.their next 2 albums were much better.

As a comment on the cover I'd state the classic Hard Rock/Heavy Metal image is forever the best and about as cool as it gets. When done right. As in styled long hair, cool wardrobe, good locations and all. It's the makeup and feminine aspects of some of these looks that are the bad. The industry wrote the total off as lame once they started promoting other music and people followed. That's what you see in many comments throughout the 90's and the 00's. It is possible for a band to 1. make good music and 2. look cool. All look and empty music I can understand, sound comes first, but this one rocks all the way through. A classic.

guy's bon jovi is average and overrated to boot the only thing rock about him was his hair although he did take the cinderfella's out on tour but they have much more talent than him this is a great debut long cold winter was their finest moment the title track,shake me,nobody's foolonce around the ride and push push i love great album with a nice bluesy feel too

Interesting discussion . . . It sounds like a number grew up in the 80s -- I grew up in the 70s on the same music the band did -- my first album was Toys in the Attic. Van Halen II took me through tenth grade. I also listened to a lot of Rolling Stones, and some true metal. That said, Van Halen in the 80s, uh, not so good (to me). I don't hear Van Halen in Cinderalla at all. AC/DC is a good rock (not metal) band, but they have never "shook" me. I'm a girl and I don't have a single Bon Jovi album, and don't consider them "hard rock" at all. I somehow "missed" this album in 1986 -- I believe it was because I played Welcome to the Jungle for about 18 months straight. Heard hits on MTV though. Got the next two Cinderella albums which I like even more. The cover and looks, of course, suck. But if you notice, they even made Axl tease his hair for the first album cover. Re all the comments about laziness above -- google Keifer and voice. Good grief.

Keifer's voice issues are pretty well-documented, but all the while, they were still touring most years, and still no new music. Tom occasionally made noises about a solo album, but that never happened either. Supposedly, they had some legal issues that kept them from recording for a while, but those were squared away years ago. I just don't think they're at all motivated to do a new record, personally, just based on interviews I've seen adn read.

I'll be damned, I don't think I ever commented on this record. All right, I do hear a big AC/DC influence on songs like "Shake Me" and "Push Push," and obviously, there's Keifer's screechy voice. But basically, this is just stripped-down, East Coast hard rock, a la Kix, Dirty Looks, etc. "Nobody's Fool" takes a big bite out of "Bringin' On The Heartache" (I've heard a demo version that was quite different from the way they later recorded it for this album, though). Production's a little weird, not very bottom-heavy, and with drums that sound like they were recorded from across a large, empty room. But there really isn't a song on here that i don't like. Favorites would be the title track, "Shake Me," "Soembody Save Me" and the overlooked "Back Home Again."

True, what themartin said. Mr. Coury isn't on the album due to some strange politics I understand. Barry B. is an old friend of mine (I grew up in Broomall, PA too) and a very fine guitarist. I'm also a guitarist (and a good one), and we had the same guitar teacher as kids. Barry was not an 'outsider'though and was actually in Cinderella for a short stint, then joined Pete Way's Waysted. Anywhoo, Keifer is one great songwriter! Saw them 3 yrs. ago in Mountain View, CA and they still 'have it', though TK's voice did start to give out near the end of the show. Very fine musicians in that genre. Not bum song on any of their releases, IMHO.

I bought this when it first came out and I had it on vinyl. They immediately became my favourite band at the time. I bought the t'shirt and I went to see them at Donnington (then called Monsters of Rock) and they were fantastic. The AC/DC riffery and vocals make it sound dated now and 'Night Songs' sounds like a dirge it's so slow. Overall a good debut album, but not a patch on what was to come...

Tim resumed all in his comment way back in 2001...Fantastic album all the way through..highly recommended... and i wouldn't agree more...really a killer debut!!!...Jon Bon Jovi somehow was the mentor of this band,actually he discovered them and put them on the spotlight...Jeff Paris and Tony Mills participated as guest musicians on the album..."Night Songs" is a raw yet solid song,"Shake Me" & "Nobody's Fool" are both classics of the band already,"Nuthin' For Nuthin'" killer,"Once Around The Ride" & "Hell On Wheels" both songs are a** kickers ,"Somebody Save Me" reminds me of Dokken somehow & "In From The Outside" another hot shot...more???..find out by yourselves!!!.96/100

Saw these guys last year in Colorado. Warrant opened up for them. Fun show. Afterwards both band members were roaming around the place. Shook a couple of hands; they were nice and approachable. They played a bunch from this great album.

Another great debut. Night Songs is bluesy, Shake Me is very AC/DCish and one of their best, Nobody's Fool is a decent ballad which, again is quite bluesy, Nothin' For Nothin' is an explosive rocker and another favourite and my last pick from this is Somebody Save Me which has a decent rhythm. This isn't as good as the follow up but is still up there with other classic debuts of the genre.

Yes, Cinderella's debut album Night Songs, that sold an amazing 3 million copies, a result of good songs, videos and a very successful tour with legends Bon Jovi, is indeed a classic album. It was about perfect timing too, since '86 was a really good year for this type of band and videos. Jody Cortez obviously played all the drums on the recording, before Fred joined. And the only thing to complain about here is Andy Johns' production and mixing of the songs, and the mix of the rhythm section esp is really bad, indistinct bass and a tinny and plastic drum sound, not pleasant to listen to. The sound mixing of Heartbreak Station is a lot better (to give you a reference). Still a solid album.

This band may have looked all glam in their image on this album but the actual music is really bluesy hard rock. Tom Keifer's vocals are one of the selling points. He has a whisky-soaked rasp of a voice that sounds like he has spent a month at sea without talking. I dig it. "Shake Me" is one of those cool party rockers that you can automatically remember the tune just by stating the title. But the absolute classic is the ballad "Nobody's Fool" which has a masterful lyric and really is memorable. Definitely one of the best tracks of 1986 period and also of the entire genre. 91/100. Essential.

1986 and Sleaze Rock found a new hero in Philadelphia band, Cinderella. Incorrectly labelled "glam" probably cause of their look on the album cover, their debut features the unmistakable vocals of leader Tom Keifer. Some can't handle his raspy tones but I find it a feature. Shake Me is a sleazy party anthem. Nobody's Fool is a ballad that really hits home lyrically. Not sappy at all. Somebody Save Me is awesome as is the underrated Back Home Again. Cinderella would further refine their bluesy style on later releases but this is where is started. A sleaze rock classic. Rated A.

1986 was the year the new breed started coming out and replacing the likes of Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister. The two biggest releases of the year were Look What The Cat Dragged In (which I don't like at all except for the title track) and Slippery When Wet (which I never need to hear again, ever). Therefore, I'm going with Night Songs for my pick for '86. This was actually the second hard-rock album I ever owned, after Appetite For Destruction. The highs may be higher on Long Cold Winter, but for me, Night Songs is a more consistent listen all the way through. The title track might seem like a weird way to start the festivities, being slow and menacing, with that howling chorus, but it absolutely works! "Nobody's Fool" is a great ballad, although I've heard early semi-pro recordings that have more of an uptempo feel. In its official form, it sounds more than a little like "Bringin' On The Heartache" by Def Leppard.

There's also supposed to be a low-budget video for an early version of "Shake Me," from 1984—I'm guessing Philly must have had a local music-video show or something? AND! the band appeared in a TV commercial for a local place called, I believe, Al's Chili Dogs, from '83 or '84—I think it's still on YouTube somewhere. Anyway, back to the disc, there are hints of the bluesiness that would dominate the band's sound on future records, but even these trace elements set them apart from other bands at the time. And "Back Home Again" should have been a single!

A final note: drums are performed by one Jody Cortez. Andy Johns was not impressed by Fred Coury and brought this guy in for the sessions. As otherh pointed out, he got Cozy Powell and Denny Carmassi to do Long Cold Winter. Not sure why Fred doesn't play on Still Climbing.
