Anybody like this one? I don't remember being overwhelmed, but I'll pull it out again. |
From: Carsten | Date: March 13, 2004 at 3:17 |
Yes, very good disc. Remember buying it way back in '91 when it was still fresh on the scene. Described to me as being like Malmsteen, I found it to be more like Dokken with some excellent guitar work. Cool singer too! Can anyone help me if they own an original? I'm thinking I was sold a bootleg pressing by someone in the recent past (New England States) and would like to bust them down if I can verify the legitimate encoding sku(s) from the cd. |

The Dokken comparison is dead-on, and I do think of Yngwie during some of Chapman's solos. Gordon's voice makes me think of a "lighter" Bruce Dickinson at times, and then sometimes he sounds a bit like Geoff Tate to me; it's kind of hard to peg an exact comparison. Excellent melodic hard rock CD that I'd recommend for fans of Dokken,Talon, and the euro bands like Jaded Heart,Wicked Sensation, etc..Tracks 4 & 5 are my personal faves, but I find the whole disc to be quite enjoyable! |

Overrated! Damn, I was so looking forward to it, too... I guess the can't all be as good and as suprising as Blue Tears. |

I agree with gener8er here. This CD is SO highly talked up by collectors and experts in the genre, and for about a year this was my most wanted CD. Well, I got it and it's decent well played AOR, but possibly the most overrated CD I ever heard. I could easily do without it and pick out a dozen better CDs from any lot of 15 from my collection at any given time. Not awful, but if you don't have it don't worry. You're really not missing much, IMO. Decent at best. |

Maybe I say that I like a lot this band because class melodick metal is one of my fave genre.Ok,not the most expression of ideas ever heard but IMO this is pretty solid and melodick, there aren't fillers even if miss a real killer track, but there are many remarkable hooks to me...8/10 |

Have to agree with Frank and Geoff on this one. |

No way you can call this AOR. It's something between melodic metal and hard rock with lots of great Malmsteen-like fretwork. All songs are quite good but I have to agree it's difficult to pick a real standout track. Maybe Memories would do. Anyway, it's surprisingly good regarding it's rarity! |

I mostly agree with Carsten and Whiplash1972, Very Good Melodic HardRock/Metal and yep: Gordon's voice reminds me of Bruce Dickinson. My favorite song is "When We Rock" but the whole album is perfect for me, btw "Suite Donna" is an instrumental song. Recommended. 8.5/10 |

I guess it's a matter of taste, but it never seems to amaze me when I hear what some consider exceptional & others average or lame. This is EXCEPTIONAL Melodic Hard Rock that is considered a mega rarity (seen for $80+ in Europe. Indies DO NOT get much better than this. The production is stellar as well as all instruments (ironically lead vocalist Gordon Chapman plays most of the bass, & guitars as well as being producer) with John Gorman on drums. And whether this was a project band of Gordon's or not, the fact of the matter was that it was high-class all the way through & through. Those who like vocals combining Dickinson, Tate & even Col Sergeant (RANKELSON)with music comparable to DOKKEN, TESLA, WICKED SENSATION, FIFTH ANGEL & "Empire"-era QUEENSRYCHE (and on par with those bands)will have NO problem adding this to their collections. |

The guitar playin' on this is quite good.Fans of Yngwie,James Byrd and even Vito Brata should dig this strat-y sounding lead work.Although not my preference his vox are good kinda sounds like a tamer David Taylor (Jacob's Dream) with the Tate/Dickinson-ish flare going on.Impressive recording from what seems to have been a one-off from a guy from Michigan. |
