LOVE this CD!!! Paul Laine's vocals SOAR on several cuts (Here Without You, especially)!!! The songwritering is superb (Even a bit 'tongue in cheek' in places lol...) Favorite songs for me are 'When Ya Gonna Break My Heart' and 'Get The Hell Outa My House' Thoroughly enjoyed this album, and imo, not a bad cut anywhere!! Easily one of my Top 10!!!

One of the worst CD's in history of music ! I hate this modern/aternative 'music' ! Nothing melodic, bad songs ! No, not my cup of tea at all ! Of course, on Atenzia records, known as the very, very worst record label ! No, Paul Laine is a great talent (see his own records, his Danger Danger commitment etc.), but this is awfull ! Very ,very bad ! A disaster ! Paul, go back to Danger Danger and give us a new, real melodic record !

'Shift' is one of my favorite CDs of 2003! It is a good combination of musical styles with the result being a CD of fresh sounding music. People who might think since Paul is involved that the album will be like that of D2 of solo projects, & I think with Shugaazer, Paul wants to step away from that 'tag' and be part of something totally different & original. Different is not always good, but in this case, different worked very well with a result of a great CD! -Rob www.theloudestrock.com

Yo Freaky, one day you will realise that your opinions aint the only ones that count. Stop being so goddamned opinionated & leave other peoples opinions alone! So you dont like this album, fine, but other people do so fucking live with it!

From start to finish, 'Shift' is an album crammed full of great songs that oozes class, individuality and diversity. In an all too homogenous modern rock scene, Shugaazer are a welcome, refreshing alternative. As Laine himself sings on 'Song For Lennon', this is the choice of a new generation. 'Shift' is that good and builds spectacularly on the modern rock tracks Paul Laine has contributed to Danger Danger over recent years to create one of the best rock albums of 2003 by some distance.

Are you serious Rycheage ?! C' mon, man, this is CRAP !!! No any selfrespecting AOR fan can listen to this ! Normally I agree with you, but this I can't understand ! Where are the true, real, pure AOR fans ? !

Freaky, as you stated, I usually agree with you also but I think you are a bit too closed minded. Open your mind and your ears a bit and you can hear some wonderous music. I try to stay out of the Freaky bashing so please do not think of this as bashing but you need to open up a little. I love the 80's too but I really love anything melodic and this is just right. Melodic but takes a chance.

See this is my point, this is a great album but because you dont like it Freaky, apparently I'm not a true rock/aor fan. Bullshit, dont try to lay your opinions on me & tell me what I am. Open your mind & realise other peoples opinions do count. I love this CD but I'm not telling you you're wrong for not liking it am I!

I'm somewhere in the middle with this one. I love Laine's voice, but this leaves me a little cold. I guess it depends on how you took to the latter day DD stuff, and I didn't really like 'Dawn' or '...Gildersleeves' much. It does sound great, and I love the lyrical content, but is not quite my bag style-wise. I'd sooner listen to the first DD or one of Laine's solo CDs, but each to their own.

P.s. But I do think that 'Something Worth Waiting For' is one of the songs of the year...

I believe it is 'Something worth waiting for' that blows my mind most, but this is an awesome CD the whole way through. The hooks are massive, the songs heartfelt and it's just a gem of a CD. A lot better than the songs Paul contributed to the last D2 CD and glad to ses this CD is full of great, hook filled modern rock, oozing class.

Well for anyone wondering who really was the writing force behind the last two D2 albums we now have our answer. THIS SUCKS!!! What a total waste of a great voice. Thank the Gods I got to listen to this before I bought it. On a positive note the guitar work can be nice if you can block out the rest of the garbage coming through the speakers.

Simply brilliant pop. I see that Freaky hates it so much that he felt compelled to comment thrice. I'd save a lot of dough if I only listened to one style of music and discarded everything else. Not liking a style is one thing, but openly slamming anyone else that may not agree with you looks pretty petty and actually weakens your arguments. 8/10

Sorry Mr Laine and others.....the title should not be SHIFT, but SHIT....this is not PL`s best work at all. Check out his first solo album, that`s much more of a masterpiece than this crap........Again sorry about the use of words.....

This is a great Paul Laine project. Not as good as his solo releases (which are my favs). Some of this stuff is better than his later Danger Danger releases. A lot of great hooks on this one. I really loved "Something Worth Waiting For". Great rockin tune.

yikes. I don't get the positive comments at all on this one. absolute garbage. I should have known from the bandname - pronounced Shoe-Gazer. I don't even care for Laine on this one and he's been a huge favorite vocalist of mine for the past year. If you like your rock melodic with big hooks and moving ballads, this isn't for you. If you like your music modern and perdictable with stupid lyrics with loads of unoriginality, then buy this one. 0.3/10
