I bought this on vinyl in ' 82 after hearing Burning Heart and soon found out that the whole album completely kicked butt. I recently bought it on CD (Jap. import) for about $30 and wouldn't hesitate to do it again if something happened to this copy. Adrian's guitar work is excellent.

A solid release. Really there are no weak tunes here. Too bad they went in a poppier direction with their 2nd release. This one seems to be heavily influenced by Schenker-era UFO.

your love is in vain and burning heart are the standout tracks for sure on this one. this is a sorely overlooked record from a band that was great. if you like bad company, pat traver and fastway this is up your alley!!!!!!!

Good album that is a nice bridge between 70's hard rock and 80's metal. The UFO influences are obvious in particular Vandenberg's melodic soloing a la Schenker. To my ears though these guys on this album sound a lot like the Scorpions minus the big sing-a-long choruses. It is nice to hear albums like this where the musicians were top notch and performance was just as important as style. Good choice if you like a balance between hard rock and heavy metal.

I can't believe it... VH1Classic just played the video for 'Your Love Is In Vain!!!' Still such a great song, and I still get a kick out of Adrian's tiger suit w/the bow tie!

I happened upon this cassette in 1989 at A&A's in my hometown for I think $6.99. Good investment! After much searching I found their other two. Of course the reason I bought it is because I was a Whitesnake fan. I figured I was going to get your typical guitar hero album. Wrong! Great songwriting, vocals, arranging, melodies.. and the guitar playing isn't too shabby either. 'Burning Heart' is one of the greatest ballads, bar none.

And the best thing is: they're Dutch!! (yeah, i'm Dutch too...) Adrian played with Whitesnake last year when they did their dutch concert, very cool!

This is one of those excellent, overlooked albums that should have made the band famous. Adrian just plays guitar, flat out. They lost their way on the 2nd album which now sounds like a bad soundtrack to a bad '80s teem movie. If you ever have the oppostunity to buy this album, BUY IT!!!

this is the first and best Vandenberg release. this includes great songs like, YOUR LOVE IS IN VAIN, BACK ON MY FEET, WAIT, BURNING HEART, and TOO LATE. The best song on the cd and probably the best and most well-known Vandenberg song is BURNING HEART. it's a great power ballad with talented guitar playing. Who knows who Adrian Vandenberg was influenced by on the guitar? It sounds like he could have picked up on Eddie Van Halen in the 70's.

Vandenberg might just be the best Dutch band ever. Well, I do not know many others except for Golden Earring (pretty good themselves). This is as consistant as any hard rock album from the early 80's. 'Burning Heart' was a pretty big hit as a power ballad before rock bands were chruning them out at a rapid pace. And Vandenbergs guitar playing is excellent as expected. 10/10

I was sort of expecting more, especially looking at the song names which for a melodic rock lover could mostly turn into gold, but it's not really my thing. Understand this has some fans, but I prefer it a little more melodic than this. Good for what it is, but I won't need to hear again personally.

It doesn't really get any better than this. I expected this to be good and was surprised by just how good it was! Adrian Vandenberg shines throughout the whole album and Bert Heerink's vocals are spot on. Your Love Is In Vain, Back On My Feet (excellent riff), Burning Heart and Too Late are the best on here. This is essential stuff.

This is a killer album, This is great hard rock, pure and simple, but one of the best bands I heard in my life, Coll guitar, strong drums, and killer songs like Your Love is in Vain, Wait, Burning Heart, Lost in a City and Nothing to Lose. This is the best Adrian Vandenberg.

excellent debut for VANDENBERG back in 82 capturing the sound of the early 80s hard rock scene in a classy way!fine warm guitar driven sound with no fillers that wont disapoint you and Andrian offering a good performance with the comparisons with Michael Schenker being fair enough!a classic of that era for sure

Vandenberg are an early example of a heavy band sneaking into the Top 40 with a weepy ballad. Of course, this was the model for mainstream success in the latter half of the decade, but Vandenberg did it way back in '82. And it seemed like the band were mostly forgotten by the time I got into hard rock. Although I knew Adrian was in Whitesnake and had been somebody before that, I never actually heard his namesake band until well into the 21st century. And "Burning Heart" caused me to dismiss them as another sissy pomp/AOR band with metal pretensions, I only recently discovered their first two albums. Pretty cool! Shreddy guitars and strong melodic vocals that remind of Don Dokken at times. On the fast songs, like "Ready For You" and "Out On Streets," they're clearly going for a Van Halen sound, but like a lot of European bands back in the day, they can't quite nail that carefree, California sense of fun that characterized so much hair-metal.

The clunky production has the album stuck in the early '80's but so be it. Best song here is "Wait." Sometimes I like to imagine being young in 1982 (but older than I actually was), driving around at night, blasting music like this in a time just before it went truly mainstream (and none of the bullshit soft-rock of the day). A fun little thought-exercise.

Slight correction: "Burning Heart" spent two weeks just inside the U.S. Top 40 in March of 1983.
