Surprisingly, despite the length of time Monaco was vocalist and now Chip, this is actually the first full length EZN album without Donnie on vocals. Also surprisingly it is not a bad album. Now do not get me wrong, it is not a patch on the older albums, but it is certainly has that classic EZN sound. I do think that Chip should really be releasing this as a solo album, but I get it that the name is what will sell most copies of this, so no way is he giving up on that. Chip has always had a very similar vocal style to Donnie, with it just being somewhat rougher, so his vocals also give it that classic sound. The only gripe is the amount of effects on the vocals (probably to make him sound even more like Donnie). I know the claim will be that it gives it more of that "trippy" 60s vibe, but the honest answer is it is to cover for the fact he is not a natural front man vocally. If you can get past those effects though, this is a good release. Better than Question mark for sure. |

I agree, this is a decent album, but to think if Donnie was on vocals, how stellar this album would be. I agree with CC that the production tries hard to capture that Donnie sound, but it's not the real thing. Admittedly, I am biased since Donnie Vie is one of my all time favorite vocalist. Just my two cents... |

Just heard the new Donnie Vie solo album "Beautiful things" which will be released soon, and my good does it blow this one away. As said, this is a decent album, but Donnie's does so much more to recapture that classic EZN sound. Like his previous albums, it is a mix and match of styles, but several tracks on it could easily fit on any EZN album. Absolutely love it. |
