The first MSG album I bought. Love it still to this day. The production is not the best, but you get to hear the future of Michael Schenker, what a guitarist. Good, but Assault Attack is the best

Essential Michael Schenker at it's best. You won't be sorry with this one. Gary Barden's great also.

This record is phenomenal! Anyone who does not know Michael Schenker is very deprived-he is the best guitarist in the world. Van Halen would not want to plug in if he were in the same room as Michael. This guy set the trend for hard rock players when VH and Vai were still picking their noses. Check out "Into The Arena" Awesome!!! Michael, its unfair to compare anyone to you, because that player is sure to be embarrassed. You Rule!!!

Great album. Good songs and Gary Braden is great on it. Suffers from a very dry production but still rocks hard. Lost Horizons is a classic.

Weak production by Deep Purple's Roger Glover. First 2 tracks are bonfide classics, but the album kinda peters out after that. Schenker rips himself off on "Tales of Mystery". The music is identical to UFO's "Arbory Hill".

Difficult to find a more melodic guitarist than Schenker. Don't know that I'd compare him to Van Halen or Vai- different styles altogether. The production, as mentioned, is not the greatest, but run through a good EQ and you'll find what you're looking for. I listened to Schenker for years in UFO and find his solo efforts refreshing. Barden is a good front-man for this album and Schenker's guitar work is very tight. Definitely worthy for fans of classically oriented Euro-based rock.

A strong release! But where oh where is the CLASSIC 'Assault Attack'?? That is the best in my opinion.

"Van Halen would not want to plug in if he were in the same room as Michael." Now, now, let's not over do it huh??? I think Schenker and Van Halen could make beautiful music together

Everyone knows that Joe Satriani could play all of VH, Vai (he taught him) and Schenker's styles of guitar. Go Joe.

From: gener8tr Date: November 17, 2004 at 21:41
Oh yeah, well I think CC Deville destroys all of the aformentioned guitarists... When it comes to makeup, that is. Schenker rocks with the best of them, and his brother shreds, too.

HOLD ME BACK! The brains behind this is a genious. Slash my head off and kick it down the gutter with this one. Most excellent job.

From: Remastered Reason Date: January 16, 2006 at 13:16
Schenker storms out the gate into his solo career with a sensational song full of expectation on overload. "Armed & Ready" delivers an immense groove that will quickly impress. Also, any fan would note the presence of a few moody sci-fi rockers which were characteristic of UFO. Really this cd is an extension of his heyday with Mogg & company.

From: Alternia Date: September 22, 2006 at 19:02
MSG First album, a rock classic. Armed & Ready is the perfect song to start a concert, cry for the nations is a concert favorite (minus the intro), victim of illusion is very solid too, Bijou Pleasurette is a beautiful instrumental, into the arena is another classic Schenker live, tales of mystery is the complete song for a short instrumental that is in the UFO-Obssesion album. Lost Horizons is another fan favorite. One of the best Schenker (the melodic guitar God) Efforts.

excellent debut for MSG with great hard rockin songs, astonishing guitar work and great vocs by Gary Barden!the production is nt bad and the whole vibe is quite hard rockin!"feels like a good thing","tales of mystery" and "armed and ready" are the highlights!fine release!

From: Doug Date: April 5, 2012 at 15:26
A great album from my college days! "Armed and Ready" just rocks!

From: rick kerch vzla Date: March 12, 2016 at 22:35
Lovely album to me ...best cuts on this are tracks "Victim Of Illusion" & "Feels Like A Good Thing"...some other fine ones are tracks 1,2 & 6...83/100

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: March 8, 2024 at 12:08
After an acrimonious split with UFO, Michael Schenker strikes out on his own with an album that sounds like a more metal version of his previous band. This music is very much of its time, but is also very heavy for 1980 on highlights like "Armed And Ready," "Victim Of Illusion," "Feels Like A Good Thing," the instrumental "Into The Arena," and especially "Lost Horizon." Frankly, the other four songs pale next to these. More AOR-ISH fare like "Cry For The Nations" and "Looking Out From Nowhere" suffer from Gary Barden's voice and a lack of really sharp hooks. Schenker is great at what he does, and his solos really explode out of an otherwise flat production, but he just doesn't have the best ear for pop melodies and catchy choruses like his former bandmates. And I just plain don't like the other instrumental "Bijou Pleasurette" or the ballad "tales Of Mystery."
