'The Voice of Rock' returns with another new studio album, an annual event at the moment, which is certainly no complaint. This was recorded mostly live in the studio and this has given the sound a fresh edge. JJ Marsh is one fine guitar player and is matched by the powerhouse drumming of 'Chilli Pepper' Chad Smith. After the rockier 'Songs In The Key' album last year, this is more of a return to the Funkier, Bluesy sound found on the earlier 'Feel' album. Another high quality GH album.

Big disappointment, once again from mr. Hughes. He has a fantastic voice, but on this CD he doesn't rock at all. Too much funk/soul ! The real funk rockers with class are Mother's Finest. Mr. Hughes can learn a lot of that great band. If he releases a pure (hard)rock CD, it's always quality, not if he gives us another soul/funk record. Wasted talent !

I Definately wouldn't say that this doesn't rock - This is one powerful sounding album in places, check out 'Let It Go', 'She Moves Ghostly' & 'Don't Let Me Bleed' for starters. Mothers Finest are a great band for sure, but certainly don't have the monopoly on all things 'Funky' by a long way. Certainly don't think GH needs to be taught anything about playing this type of stuff, after all he has been doing it on & off for the last 30 years.

Another great cd by one of the best. He mixes some funk to his rock on this one. Awsome players in the band. If you want to listen to the same sound forever and live in a box move on but for real music lovers check out the latest from the man. BTW, this is the original rock funkster. Everyone has learned from him.

I don't think this album doesn't rock! It's plenty of (funky)rock songs and for sure it's heavier than "Feel". However, this seems to me like a Red Hot Chili Peppers album with a great singer a little modern (post grunge) influences. Not bad, but "Songs in the key of rock" blew this one away!My favorites on this are "Soul Mover" and "Dark Star", the rest is average. 7/10

Great voice, but BAD CD ! It's funk, not rock !

From: henderson Date: March 25, 2005 at 15:09
AOR Freaky! You sound VERY boring ... It's a groovy, vivid and yes, rocking record, even if it's not pure rock. But who cares? It makes me wanna move my feet and bang my head. GREAT!

AOR Freaky ... where this guy comes from ? What a musical taste ....

From: Adam Blackheart Date: June 18, 2005 at 7:13
Album Of The Year. Glenn Hughes is that guy, who knows that music needs a soul, needs a heart... Soul Mover will kick your ass, shake your soul and steal your heart. And, you know, that's what I call HARD ROCK!!! Long Live Glenn Hughes, he's the only one...

From: Mudhawk Date: September 15, 2005 at 11:49
Haven't heard his one, but Hughes is an amazing talent. IMO I think he sounded best on Phenomena's 1st record and later on John Norum's CD Face the Truth (John was ex-Europe Guitarist)

I'm so far behind on CDs that I'll never catch up. I finally got this in the car stereo last week, and even though it took a while, the CD really grew on me. The first 5 songs are my favorites, and those along with "Land of the Livin'" and "Miss Little Insane" make this another fine addition to the Hughes discography.
