I *love* this CD. On almost every album I own there is at least one song I can't stand, not so with this album. It helps that Dio has played almost the entire album while on tour for this CD. These songs really shine live. Ronnie is an amazing performer and the band sounds comfortable with each other and tight. A great return to Ronnie's classic work.

i have been a huge fan of dio ever since ELF.only a fan knows what i'm talking about.i have every album the man ever sang on,love em all....but this one.WHAT THE HELL IS THIS SHIT???musically its not bad,but its a total waste of dio's vocal skills....i'm saddened.it will stay in my collection, but never leave the shelf again

Listened to this cd with the headphones yesterday and was reminded "F#@k this album is great". Goldy is fantastic and the thing with Dio is the guitarists are just always smoking!!! Great songs here and at the least an entertaining concept going on. What's sad is that I'm so used to this guys incredible voice that you almost take that voice for granted. It's so perfect for metal. It's too bad he doesn't get the accolades he deserves, he's earned it. Great album check it out!!!

From: Nortum Date: September 5, 2003 at 19:27

From: Rene Date: September 6, 2003 at 2:13
The try to sell this record like a 80s sounding DIO but its not like that, buy KILLING THE DRAGON, its 100%times better and pure 80s, yesssssssssss.

From: quini Date: October 10, 2003 at 6:14
magica sound more modern, less 80´s, but for my is a very good album, risky and heavyer ,for my Dio pass with Magica. Killing the dragon is more classic without risk. a support for Magica

From: Fat Freddy Date: January 2, 2004 at 11:01
Something of a departure for Dio, but still a solid piece of rock. Ronnie's been writing songs about good and evil and dragons and demons for years so it was only a matter of time till he put it all together in a conceptual piece. I hear his new album (due 2004) will be Magica Part II, and I for one am looking forward to it!

From: Big Papa K Date: June 26, 2004 at 2:04
This is one boring concept album. Even worse was having to see him perform almost the whole thing live in concert. It seems as I have not missed much of 90's Dio if this and "Lock Up the Wolves" are examples of what he has to offer. 4/10

From: Metal T Date: July 28, 2004 at 17:08
Though i thought the overall concept for "Magica" was a bit much, songs like "Fever Dreams" and "Lord Of The Last Day" are excellent stand alone songs and crank harder than freaking h*ll ! Was also nice to see Craig' back on guitar for this one,he's playing on the new one as well.Which i think will be entitled "Master Of The Moon" or something . ----

In my humble opinion this is one of the best Dio albums ever. My favorite Dio albums are: Holy Diver, The last In Line and this one. I have all of his albums and I think this was a great return to his glory days. I liked KTD but I like this one better and I think the melodies are a little smoother here. All in all a good return to form for the King of Rock in Roll.

I saw Dio on this tour (among others) and he apologized for these tunes when he got done performing them. HE DIDN'T HAVE TO APOLOGIZE! I went out the next day and swooped this up. Excellent piece of work.

Temas como "Fever Dreams", "Turn To Stone" "Challis" o esa "As Long as It's Not About Love" donde a Dio le sale un sentimiento único, y "Losing My Insanity" (con un aire a lo Rainbow) mis super-favoritas. Grande MAESTRO. 8.8/10

From: Socratic Methodist Date: November 11, 2010 at 14:32
Pretty much forgettable other than 'Fever Dreams', and 'Losing My Insanity'....3/10.

From: Wardy Date: May 18, 2013 at 5:49
After a swag of borderline releases from DIO Magica was not only a step in the right direction but an achievement in itself, & stands as one of DIO's most understood & underrated releases! Granted its on the slow side but its gets no more epic than opener Lord Of The Last Day \m/ in which of course DIO's vocal delivery is sublime! Elsewhere Fever Dreams and Turn To Stone deliver a swag of meaty riffs not surprising neither actually have the fastest legs but are attitude intact! Losing My Insanity gets up some more the tunes classy and the ballad As Long As It's Not About Love is a beauty! Overall this is an album best absorbed when listening from start to finish but most the tunes stand alone regardless, no easy task. Coulda done without the over indulgent story reading at albums end yet it shows the confidence RJD had in this release & sad Magica II & III weren't completed before his passing. A departure perhaps but an extremely worthy addition to any DIO collection! A solid rating 8

From: Wardy Date: May 18, 2013 at 5:52
EDIT - Sorry that should read; ... 'Magica' stands as one of DIO's most MISUNDERSTOOD & underrated releases!
