A superb sophomore effort, almost as good as the band's phenomenal debut. The album's opening track ("Rock Steady") immediately reveals that HEAVENS EDGE still knows what great melodic metal is all about. No modern flavoring here, just sizzling guitars, lots of hooks, catchy choruses, and layers of backing vocals, complete with a clean, sharp production. For melodic hard rock lovers, this band will definitely take you to the edge of heaven...

From: James Date: February 21, 2002 at 17:59
Not near as good as the first cd but it is still ok. The first song is really great and Just Another Fire is an awesome ballad

superb sophomore cd from this very overlooked, very talented band. this cd continues where their debut left off. marks vocals are still top-notched and reggie can still jam. rating:9+

From: Tony Date: July 2, 2002 at 11:03
I can understand why melodic rock fans go ape-s@#t over these guys. This album is just well written perfectly excecuted pop-metal. The guitar playing is tremendous here and it's really hard to find a "filler" track because they're all pretty solid. If you dig stuff in the Danger Danger, Steelheart vein you'll love this cd.

From: Shoemaker Date: July 3, 2002 at 12:32
But if you know their first strike you´ll hate this one!

From: Steve T Date: September 4, 2002 at 10:58
Apart from Rock Steady, which was from the debut album's sessions, this is nowhere near as good. Why bother to release demo's and sub standard product when it will, ultimately, detract from their world class debut album? Rock Steady is enormous and just shows the potential these guys had back then....wasted by record company politics.

Dejan patente todo su talento en el primer tema, realmente alucinante, para luego caer en picado en el resto de temas.ROCK STEADY: SI,RESTO:NO.

From: John Date: January 15, 2003 at 18:36
I'm stunned they agreed to release this. It is produced terribly. I like a couple of tracks like 'Jackie' & 'Some Other Place', but the rest sounds like some stoner produced it with the emphasis on the bass and kick drum. Bummer, because the S/T sounds awesome.

From: Beau Date: January 16, 2003 at 1:55
I agree with John (comment prior to mine). I was really disappointed with this release. The bad production makes your speakers sound like they're blown

From: REXX HAVIK Date: May 14, 2003 at 18:58
I agree that parts of this album are underproduced, but most of it(9 of the first 10 tracks) are demo's left over from the first album...Rock Steady was actually dropped from the first album & they were told by label management they could no longer do the song live. Jacky, Jump on it, & just another fire were live staples for years & were supposed to be on the 2nd album before Columbia lost their balls & bet on grunge

From: REXX HAVIK Date: May 14, 2003 at 19:00
By The way, the Heaven's Edge version of Motley's "Don't go away mad" is worth tracking down

From: Eugene "Waite" Date: May 30, 2003 at 4:42
Rexx!!! Where can I find that version? I didnt knew they covered that song....Gotta find that man!!! And by the way this album is just superb, plese skip the comparations with ths S/T because this is a different thing. Maybe is not as strong and sound-tighted as teh first one but in it´s own way is a masterpice!!!!

From: Rycheage Date: June 23, 2003 at 18:33
This album has hooks, bridges and choruses embedded everywhere. Lead vocalist Mark Evens has a great voice pitched somewhere between Honeymoon Suite and Firehouse. The title track is a great up tempo acoustic backed rocker that grows on you with every play, as indeed does the rest of the album.

From: Chris Date: July 2, 2003 at 19:42
Overall a great solid melodic rock album with enough hooks for the AOR fans and enough of the good ol' hard rocking 80's for the die hards. If you own the debut album, this will be much loved.

From: Great Dane Date: September 15, 2003 at 11:45
..............And then get this. The track Rock Steady is superb, and the rest is one pile of good rock tunes. Highly recomended, and underrated.

From: wicked man Date: May 21, 2004 at 10:39
I have to disagree Great Dane; Rock Steady is superb but the rest is a pile of SH*T!!! And the crappy production makes everything worse. Apart of the first track the rest of this CD is really boring, noway close to their first.4/10

From: Geoff Date: August 25, 2004 at 8:38
Unfortunately the sound is poor and nowhere near that of the debut, but on the fortunate side of things the songs here are much more consistent and I actually prefer this release due to the quality of songs. 'Rock steady' is a monsterously perfect opener,'Some other place' is melodic bliss,'Jacky' is probably my fave and simply perfect melodic hard rock,'Jump on it','Backseat driver' and 'call my name' are all flawless bits of great catchy commercial hard rock, 'Cuts both ways' is cool hard rock

From: Geoff Date: August 25, 2004 at 8:41
...'Roller coaster' is a great hard rocker and 'Just another fire' is a magical ballad. The only track I dislike is 'Just can't cry anymore'. I don't dislike it - it's okay but detracts from an otherwise perfect album. The last 6 tracks - the new ones, are shabby at best, though I love 'Take me by the hand' and 'Every inch a woman'. The 10 song follow-up to the debut with a sound similar to the debut would have blown my mind though and killed the debut!

From: cook_jaime Date: January 24, 2005 at 14:22
When I popped this CD in I immediately thought they sounded just like they did on their first album (a good thing.) My excitement lowered a little bit as the album went on though. Not bad, but not as good as their first. Give it 6/10. BTW - is the singer just about the ugliest guy you've ever seen??? Bet he still got the ladies though.

From: LUST Date: April 22, 2005 at 18:08
I haven't heard their debut but it has to be better than this. Horrible production and only a couple of songs are strong. Weak arangement, vocals and lyrics on all other tracks. I'm still going to give their debut a shot based on previous comments. I would pass on this one if I had to do it over again though.

From: Swriter Date: April 22, 2005 at 18:27
this is cool to have for completist only, these were leftovers with a not so great production. a fw great songs but the bad production ruins it for me. GET THE DEBUT(if u can find it), ONE OF THE BEST HARD ROCK/AOR RELEASES!!!

From: TIM (2) Date: April 23, 2005 at 5:11
The trouble with demos is you can't polish over all the mistakes or flaws, and they're here for all to see. IMO the debut had a few fillers on it, but Neil Kernon managed to make them still sound awesome with his crystal-clear production job. Vocally this sounds a touch weak, and the songs are very ordinary with simple-structures. The title track is good, as is "Just Another Fire", but there's nothing close to the incredible "Find Another Way" from the debut. Okay, but nothing special IMO. 6/10.

This is damn good considering what it is. The stuff from the first sessions is quite good, and extremely catchy. The last bunch you can really hear the possibilities (and they are GOOD), but that demo production just makes them almost unlistenable for me. A real shame there was never a chnace for them to finish up and release this stuff. They were never my favorite band, but always a great fallback when I just wanted, no-holds barred, hook laden hard rock. I give an 8/10 for what could've been.

From: juan carlos Date: May 14, 2006 at 16:33

From: manicmurderdoll Date: May 14, 2006 at 19:22
I wanna, but I can't seem to warm to this second release...The first album I can play start to finish in a loop, I love it more than words can even say. The radio station I listen to played "every inch a woman" earlier ...It doesn't sound like them to me. I'm not saying it's bad because it's not. It's just...good in such a bland doesn't-knock-my-socks-off way.I almost feel bad saying it, because I do so like the first album. I've given it awhile and it just isn't connecting with me.

From: wzcj02 Date: June 21, 2007 at 12:09
Rock Steady rocks....and a couple of others tracks pass but mostly this album is a let down. Pay the extra for the first album. secondspin.com often has it.

From: cooldude Date: January 19, 2009 at 12:56
this band is terrible. no power, no hooks, just fill, fill, fill. the singer is very weak. reggie can play and thats it.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: October 21, 2012 at 17:44
Respecting all the comments above that say this album ain't no good well for me it is,not as solid as the band's debut but yeah guys, quite good indeed IMO,in fact, remember that some of these songs are demos so do not expect crystal clear sound or majesty all around..."Rock Steady" is a killer opener and could be easily the highlight of the release..some other moments in here are "Some Other Place,Some Other Time"(nice),"Jacky","Back Seat Driver","Call My Name"(AOR feel),"Just Can't Cry Anymore"(great!),"Every Inch A Woman"(cool)& "Nice And Easy"(cool)...recommended stuff to listen to...87/100

From: hair metal again Date: September 18, 2013 at 6:24
excellent release by HEAVENS EDGE that should have been out back in the day by Columbia but....anyway this is top notch commercial hard rock music with killer songs like "rock steady","back seat driver" and great ballads and mid tempos like "just another fire","cry" and "some other place-some other time"!Marks vocs are warm and clear and the guitar work astonishing!essential once again

From: Ydol eM Date: May 31, 2015 at 13:30
Some songs would really deserve better production, some songs would even deserve not to be here (#7 should have been "cut out as a whole") and the cheap front cover - it isn't worth to comment. But on the other side of this low-budget album here are mostly well-written&performed songs quite similar to those from the first album. After due consideration (I hope)- still very good (arena) hard aor rock reminding me eg Harem Scarem. 85/100.

From: CC Date: February 24, 2018 at 6:57
Kind of annoying that I did not know that two different labels released this and the different covers reflect this. The awful boring black cover was the Perris release, and features 16 tracks. The MTM version with the better cover stops at track 10 (Rollercoaster). Personally I think its a decent album and would have preferred to get the version with more tracks on, but I dont like it enough to buy it again for the other 6 tracks.
