I Remember Now..... HA-ha! I remember being absolutely blown away the first time I put the cassette for 'Operation:Mindcrime' in and listened to it;WOW! This melodic rock masterpiece weaves an intricate tale of mind control, drug use,and betrayal.Revolution Calling,Operation:Mindcrime,Breaking the Silence, I Don't Believe in Love, and Eyes of a Stranger are all stand-outs on this superb concept disc.10/10 Whiplash1972

From: WidoMakr Date: August 3, 2003 at 18:40
Whiplash..I am still in awe of this album 15+ yrs later.I havent listened to many CDs at all where EVERY song is great/no filler. Saw them in 88 with Whitesnake..awesome show, remember Scott R's drums suspended by chains..cool look..Geoff sounded amazing..Jason FAQ..it doesnt surprise me you dont like QR...If you said that based upon there last few albums I could maybe understand it..BUT to not give props for Op Mindcrime.say u dont like Geoff's voice..your a joke..Quote the WidoMakr..Never More

From: jason (FA - Q) Date: August 3, 2003 at 18:56
Let me inform you of something, WidoMakr. I have evey right to say the things I have said about Shitryche. I have all their CD's (except the last two), and I have seen the band live three times. You will just have to except what I have said, because I am well informed about the band, and there for I am definitely entitled to my opinion.

Obra maestra

From: Rycheage Date: August 9, 2003 at 21:00
The epitome of prog metal. Not a filler on the album. This is still as fresh as it was in 1988. 'Suite Sister Mary' is an awesome tune. High praise for this album. 10/10.

From: motley_69 Date: August 16, 2003 at 0:08
Wicked album from an awsome band. New cd rocks ass too. Here's my two cents worth, hey Jason, if you think Queensryche is Shitryche, then why do you own albums, and go to shows? Wierdo poser.

From: Ed Date: August 18, 2003 at 11:08
This is QUEENSRYCHE's best album! The band at their gloryous days. One of the best albums from the 1980's. This was 1988 to be specific. And I saidamn! I was only 4 years old when this album came. Now I'm 19 years old, but this album stood the test of time. everybody in my generation has to know about this band. Simply one of the bests. Jason, you fucking asshole... don't talk trash about one of the best lead singers. I don't care what you think of this band, so shut the hell up!

From: Ed Date: August 18, 2003 at 11:12
I said, damn. What with that face that appeared? lol

From: rene Date: August 18, 2003 at 15:00
A very good album but not the best QUEENRYCHE album in my opinion. I like RAGE FOR ORDER, THE WARNING and their first EP more. Today they are just shit and live they dont play many classic and thats what their fans like to listen to at a QUEENSRYCHE concert, no??????

From: Harvey Date: August 19, 2003 at 13:37
When this LP came out Queensryche were so far ahead of every other metal band that it was, frankly, embarassing. It absolutely screams of a band at the peak of their talents. It's not easy listening, because the subject matter is dark and highly politicised in a 1984/Clockwork Orange sort of way. I was only 17 when the album came out and, to be honest, it scared the shit out of me as it was released before the Berlin wall came down and the end of the cold war. A Very important LP.

From: RR-Finland Date: September 15, 2003 at 5:50
What a masterpiece! One of my all time top 5 albums. Very high professional music work and Geoff Tate´s great vocals. I just love those clips and intro/outros between tracks! If you just lay down and shut all the lights down, you can have journey to the world of music. VERY higly recommended album!

Talking about O.M.it is like i am talking about one of my best friends!what can i say;The songs can say it all!The most complete album i have ever heard!Music, lyrics, production, all perfect. The tragedy of Nikki, sweet Sister Mary, the frightening figure of Dr X,the rotten society, the lies of media and USA goverment are all hear.I remember now!Thank you mr Tate,De Garmo,Wilton,Jackson,Rockenfield.A REAL CLASSIC!

From: Metal T Date: December 17, 2003 at 15:40
I always felt that this band was a tad overrated.Tates' vocals were always great, but the band were nothing special musically. The first Ep and this one are without a doubt their best work.

From: Fat Freddy Date: January 2, 2004 at 11:51
Metal's answer to Pink Floyd's 'The Wall!' This album has captured my imagination for over fifteen (!) years now. I wore out two cassette copies over the years before finally upgrading to CD. Queensryche's crowning achievement, they haven't released anything since then that has come anywhere near this!

From: Edwin Date: January 2, 2004 at 19:10
The most incredible release from QUEENSRYCHE ever! It might be the best ever metal album, I dunno. But it surely set a new trend and opened a stream for intellectual bands. Sophisticated melody lines with awesome choirs. Pomp meets true metal. It has it all. The storyline is also still very up to date! This one can't be missing in anyone's metal collection! TOP! 10/10 PS: Shame the band (Tate) is steering clear of all of this nowadays..... music-wise as well as in his interviews!!!!!

From: mongoose Date: February 6, 2004 at 16:40
blew me away in 88 still blows me away in 2004.a movie of mindcrime with it as the soundtrack ,well that would have been awesome. One of the most played cds i own and i own more than 1000.spreading the disease, eyes of a stranger,i dont believe in love, the needle never lies are just some of the best tracks ever.no lows on here just highs all the way. an absolute classic if you dont own it WHY NOT ?just go out and buy it now. you wont regret it

Nja den duger väl!! Jag tycker att hela plattan dvs alla låtar nästan exakt likadant förutom de i mitt tycke häftiga ljudeffekterna.

From: Chris R. Date: April 8, 2004 at 15:08
This is the standard by which all other Metal albums should be judged. It is, quite simply, the best metal album ever recorded. In terms of musicianship and lyrical content Mindcrime has yet to be equalled.

From: Lynchomaniac Date: April 10, 2004 at 9:30
Probably the best album in my CD collection, it's brilliant! A must have for every Metal/Hardrock fan!

This is a great cd simply because it's not like every other one. It's astory of drugs, corrruption, and some political stuff, very cool. But the thing that makes this record is the musicians. Chris, Michael and Scott are great at what they do. Awesome solo's. I like to listen to this when I'm pissed off. Great disc a must own if you don't have it!!

From: mushmouth Date: June 2, 2004 at 6:33
Smeggin brilliant album... buying should be considered compulsory...one of the best of those metal beasts that are concept albums... still sounds as fresh 2day as back in 88...yes it is a concept album & probably the best album released by the 'Ryche...fantastic song writing/structure, gr8 vocals, superior musicianship...definitely better than subsequent releases...I'd be lost without this cd...do yourself a favor & buy it...NOW... go on...stop reading this & buy it

From: gubi Date: June 21, 2004 at 16:50
The best concept album ever released along with Dream Theater's Scenes from a memory, and also one of the best release in the '80, if not the best. Wow man, I'm so excited for they're playing in Germany in a couple of days.

From: Big Papa K Date: June 27, 2004 at 23:02
Quite possible the best metal concept album ever. I don't really care much about the concept, just the songs. And there are plenty of outstanding tunes on here; 'I Don't Believe In Love', 'Spreading The Disease', and 'Breaking The Silence'. The band at their peak. 9/10

From: Wotty Date: August 17, 2004 at 14:40
There is talk of a Mindcrime2 doing the rounds in the U.K.Can anyone shed any light on this rumour.Did Nicky really do Sister Mary,or was it....?

From: Wotty Date: August 17, 2004 at 20:27
Sheer perfection,I love this album with a passion.I have said previously there may be a long awaited follow-up to this, and if there is,the songwriting skills of the band must transcend anything they have done since perhaps,Empires.

From: Rycheage Date: August 18, 2004 at 23:31
Indeed they are going on a tour to play this in its entirety and then to the studio for Mindcrime 2. I for one can't wait. They gotta get DeGarmo back in the band somehow. They seem lost without his songwriting (his last couple of albums with them notwithstanding).

From: jack Date: August 20, 2004 at 2:19
Their music is quite 'strange'-its sometimes like maiden somtimes bon jovi or something????if i would to place them in classification of genre, they would be fefiy classification

From: Dean Date: August 20, 2004 at 13:10
Musical perfection. Easily one of the best cds ever made. Classic in every sense of the word. 11/10. BTW-Jack you have achieved the impossible-never in my life have i heard someone compare Queensryche to Bon Jovi. Your observations often leave me puzzled but this one pretty much beats 'em all. Kind of like saying Poison sounds like Slayer. 'fefiy classification' ????????????????????

From: Wotty Date: August 20, 2004 at 13:29
Even though I am a pure AOR lover,DEAN,your first three sentences define MINDCRIME perfectly....

From: Keith Date: August 23, 2004 at 10:52
Operation Mindcrime is one of the greatest albums of all time - it blows other progressive albums out of the water. The story is complex, but accessible and only gets better with repeated listening. Everytime i lsiten to mindcrime i find something else I had not noticed before - the story also feeds back on itself - it's plot is better realised than many films. If you like metal/rock/prog bands - it's an absolute must as this one defies the stereotype and rocks at the same time! 11/10

From: Wotty Date: August 23, 2004 at 11:05
Hi Keith.I have replied to comments about this classic before, and it is brilliant that people like yourself can praise this conceptual masterpiece to the max.Oh yes, I REMEMBER NOW.....

From: Nicolas Date: August 23, 2004 at 14:34
Uno de los mejores discos de los 80's, recomendado

From: gener8tr Date: September 2, 2004 at 17:56
You guys actually think this is a better conceptual album than KISS - THE ELDER??? Of course it is!!! This is one of the greatest recordings in rock history, and includes some of the best songwriting to ever. I wonder what Tate and Degarmo were thinking when they started writing is epic tale? I doubt their pens were as quick as their thoughts... paper had to be flying everywhere. I'd love to ask Tate that very question and see how he responds. Mindcrime 2 coming soon!

From: Wotty Date: September 8, 2004 at 9:24
To Jack.Your loyalty to this band does you credit. However, stop comparing them to any band you can think of.Bands always cite influences not comparisons.Plus, how many comparable bands have come close to producing a masterpiece like this?????.

From: jack Date: September 10, 2004 at 7:37
To be honest,in my opnion, only 2 i can think of-appetite of destruction and hysteria though both are not really in the same genre as queensryche. Nevertheless, this album is a must have for any fans of melodic or progressive hard rock. This album would easily be a big contender in the 80's best metal album. Killer hooks, raging riff, great solos, awesome songs, genius songwriting skill, pumping bass is what differenriate such perfect album from the others. ratings:9.5/10

From: Wotty Date: September 10, 2004 at 8:21
To Jack.Good response for this album. The other two you cited, although excellent, are not what you would call concept, but then its down to the individuals idea of conceptual.Makes you think doesnt it????.

Only one band could pull of the 'concept' album: Pink Floyd. Other bands have tried and failed, until Queensryche! Excellent job well done by the new concept kings. I burned this one out and kept going back for more until there was nothing left in the entire universe. 10/10!

From: MetalMania Date: December 1, 2004 at 23:38

From: jfox66 Date: March 10, 2005 at 21:05
Just Stop! Stop trying to compare MINDCRIME to anything else. Nothing else compares. This is one of the most awesome albums ever to come out of the Metal genre. I won't pick individual favorite tracks. That would do a disservice to this masterpiece. To all those who have slagged this album, LISTEN! Keep listening till ya get it.It may be beyond some listeners because there is so much intelligence behind this album, this band. If ya don't get it, go back to Poison and start over.

From: Chad Date: March 12, 2005 at 23:20
How Cool? How Melodic? How Perfect is this album? Not much better on this planet than this album. Essential starts with this album. Classic beyond Classic. Right up there with Back In Black, Highway To Hell, Slippery When Wet, Shout at the Devil, Van Halen S/T, Shake Your Moneymaker etc....get my drift? What an awesome album...

From: AOR freaky Date: March 13, 2005 at 11:18
Great record , but the others named as classics, dear Chad, as Shout At The Devil and especially the crap that's Shake Your Moneymaker calling classics, well . . . , can't agree ! The Black Crowes have exactly 0 out of 10 for their so called classic ! Tastes differ !

From: Chad Date: March 13, 2005 at 12:03

After the ultimate prog metal masterpiece 'rage for order' the metal gods from Seattle return with the best concept album in the history of heavy metal.Powerful melodies, haunting vocals, amazing musisianship once again from Queensryche one of the ten greatest US metal bands ever!!!!Its just simple as that...If anyone disagrees he must be deaf or an idiot.

From: juan carlos Date: August 6, 2005 at 19:41
I REMEMBER NOW! JAJAJAJAA.......

From: Geoff Date: August 25, 2005 at 22:08
No, sorry, missed the mark for me again. This was the first Queensryche album where I couldn't even find one track I enjoyed off it. I can appreciate the work and effort that went into this and why many hold it in high regards, but it looks as though I will never be one of those people. I don't dig the arrangements, vocals and overall songs. I guess I'll have to deal with being a simple man with simple tastes

From: SangreAzulForever Date: September 15, 2005 at 17:48
It´s by far the best Hard/Prog Rock album ever made. And probably, also one of the best albums made in the Rock n´Roll history. 10/10, absolutely awesome!!!

this could be the best conceptual album. Its got great songs, they are very melodic(i love that). My english is not so good,so i havent paid any attention to lyrics, but when i will have some more free time,i will listen (again) the whole album and also 'the story'.My personal favs:'Revolution Calling','I Don't Believe in Love' and 'Eyes of a Stranger'.Empire is great album too,but that one is much better.

From: fenixx Date: June 14, 2007 at 11:04
hi, this is for the contributors of this site: there are some albums in here that should´nt be commented by everyone. because such albums have gained the respect and the critical acclaim from all the midia envolved in heavy metal (people that know what are talking about). this album is one of those icons, it´s not for every ear! it´s a kind of music that takes several listening to get in to it and learn how to enjoy it. it´s similar maybe to... let´s say jazz or complex classic music. (cont.)...

From: fenixx Date: June 14, 2007 at 11:16
as i was saying: letting those guys comment on such master piece is a waste of space on the page, and , sorry for this...but, let´s say like: a donkey doing a comment about one of the 7th wonders of the world!!!LOL. about the album, all you guys that don´t know it and are intrested you´ll find a lot of info in the net. for me this one and empire opened a new prespective in music, i started listening to all types of music. so as you can see this is a teacher of the ear! (to who understands it)

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: June 30, 2007 at 20:35
MITICO!! I Don´t Believe In love' joyas extraordinarias. MARAVILLOSO

From: Figge Date: August 4, 2007 at 17:28
Easily one of the best metal albums of all time. This one shouldn't appeal as much as it does to me with it's progressive approach and I'm no fan of concept albums, but the quality can't be denied. The power and atmosphere in songs like Eyes Of A Stranger, Breaking The Silence and I Don't Believe In Love is just incredible and sheer class. A huge fav of mine. The only thing I could live without is the short intros and narrations which adds to the story but in the long run gets a little annoying.

From: Metzi Date: August 9, 2007 at 4:07
IMO the best concept album of all times! Nough said!

From: CS2007 Date: October 16, 2007 at 16:11
1988 was an excellent year for metal. Metallica - ...And Justice For All, Slayer - South of Heaven, Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Death - Leprosy, Riot - Thundersteel, etc., were all released. Queensrÿche released their best album ever, Operation: Mindcrime. This concept album weaves several themes together (religion, politics, violence, insanity, etc.) very well. Also, the musicianship is excellent and Geoff Tate's vocals are phenomenal as usual. One of the greatest albums ever.

From: keeper7k Date: October 31, 2007 at 7:32
My favorite album of all time and an absolute classic. This masterpiece introduced me to Queensryche, and made me a huge fan since then. Catchy riffs, memorable choruses great solos and a heartbreaking story, are the incredients of this excellent effort. 100/100 for sure.

From: Rob Date: March 31, 2009 at 23:11
The is one great concept album!! Not a filler in sight and unfortunately, they haven't even come close to equaling the quality of this!

From: WookieEnthal Date: July 11, 2009 at 21:43
I didn't read all of the reviews above but I'm assuming that someone said that it's probably one of, if not, THE best concept album ever recorded. There is not one weak song anywhere to be found on this amazing release but the best part is I couldn't stop listening because I was entranced by the storyline. That plus the songs = Greatness.

This is like reading a novel but in music instead of words!...Operation Mindcrime along with "Empire" have been the band's highest peak and up to now i don't recall albums done by the band that can reach the amount of greatness!(without discrediting their other albums).an album that you enjoy from head to toe!.92/100

This is their best album, and possibly the best concept album of all time.

Possibly the best metal concept album of all time. Great story, told through excellent lyrics, but the music - that is what makes this so special! Track after track are classics, but the standouts are: Anarchy X (awesome mood setting instrumental), Revolution Calling, Speak, I Don't Believe in Love, and the best track of all - Eyes of a Stranger. It's absolutely essential and is a deserved 99/100.

In short, a masterpiece.

One of the best concept albums of all time, in any genre, and certainly the best in metal. Queensryche succeeded where others have failed: they didn't forget to write songs that stood on their own, that didn't have to be absorbed as part of the story. A lot of bands get too wrapped up in the story, and the proggier the band, the worse they can be about it. Also, the sound on MindCrime is top-notch for '88, with the signature slicing guitars of DeGarmo and Wilton, Eddie Jackson's loud bass. Even Tate, not one of my favorite singers, puts on his best performance dripping with emotion. "Suite Sister Maryis the centerpiece of the album and its most progressive moment by far. But my favorite part is the final third, as "Nikki" goes from the palpable desperation of "Breaking The Silence" to the numb despair of "Eyes Of A Stranger."
