A stunningly beautiful album that tells a haunting story. The concept is superbly created by Paul O'Neill and brilliantly performed. The whole album just flows along with some stunning tracks notably Morning Sun, the title track, the Hourglass and The Storm - an incredible instrumental containing the best guitar solo I've ever heard.

Great album. They have stuck to their roots on this one and that is very pleasing, especially when you look at how many bands sell out to fit in with the times. John R's comments sum this one up pretty good. There are some really great songs on this album. I kind of liked Paragons Of Innocense, Anymore, Stay, & Blackjack Guilotine the best, personally.

Zak's finest hour as Savatage's vocalist. Sadly it would be his last recording with the band (as well as Savatage's final release on a major label) but at least he went out on a high note. I still think STREETS is my favorite conceptual piece by this band, but MAGELLAN is a close second. This album shows the Zak Stevens lineup at the top of their game.

Overall, this makes for a fairly well put together offering. Savatage’s trade-mark piano and acoustic intros that explode into frenzied melodic riffs are complimented by a number of guitar and piano orientated instrumentals as well as vocal interplays and harmonisations. It's not surprising that the tunes get into your head and start humming those heavy but very melodic tracks.

Very good album. One of their best. Sound, production, style, talent, album cover and concept are all very high. Some mixture of melodic metal-hard rock and progressive elements. Zakk sings perfectly. My faves; Morning Sun, Paragons of Innocence, Complaint In The System, The Storm. Also the rythm-guitar base in Blackjack Guilliotine is perfect. Savatage is one of the few bands that have a characteristic of its own. Never became mass-popular but always stayed in a degree of quality.

This a fantastic album! Another great concept masterpiece from this incredible band. In the 90's Savatage bacame a "monstrous" symphonic rock band, with a very peculiar sound (their cannons are a true trademark). My favorites here are Morning Sun, Complaint In The System, Anymore and Hourglass. My only negative comment goes to certain elements of the story. Example: if the character Hector Del-Fuego Magellan is a Spaniard then why is half of his name in Spanish and Magellan appears in the...

(cont.)... English form? What a big confusion! Magallanes is the Spanish form. The original name is Magalhães. And if he's a direct descendant of Ferdinand Magellan wouldn't it be wiser to call him Portuguese? Of course Magellan could have descendants in Spain, but isn't this a typical case of thinking Portugal and Spain are the same? These kind of details matter when you write a story where you mention real characters. There's a lot of weird elements about this story. Good music though 9/10

Oh, and the song Wake of Magellan is great too. In fact, I'm listening to it right now and it is certainly one of the best moments out of this awesome work!

Como gana este grupo con Zak Stevens en la voz. Su mejor disco, y con Al Pitrelli espectacular en las seis cuerdas. Escuchad este tema: The Storm

Zak's last album with Savatage, & what a way to go out. A great story & some incredible musicianship make this one the strongest in the bands catalogue. Zak & Jon share lead vocals, & it works brilliantly. The title-track is just glorious, as is the power-ballad "Anymore" - & the instrumental piece "The Storm" is just haunting. This definitely needs listening to from start to finish, & is well worth the ride. However it was the last worthy Savatage album IMHO. 8.5/10.

Ummm...for me this is an album that just passed the test but in general terms can be quite dull IMO...even though Savatage has a master in recording great conceptual albums,this one is the weakest of them all...sorry guys but as a fan of Savatage i couldn't get through this one easily and i can consider myself a very flexible person when critics have to take place..."Turns to Me","Morning Sun","Paragons Of innocence,"The Wake Of Magellan" & "Somewhere In Time/Alone You Breathe" the ones that caught my attention...80/100
