Good album..we can thank the media nazi grunge people for this style of music being pushed out of the mainstream, if you watch VH1 and MTV now it's all about the "Yeah,Yeah"FoReal"Rap Crap and once and a while they play some rock. but it isn't enough!!! I think if you want rap, or hip hop turn to the BET channel. I think MTV should go back to being for rock music. But we can't have that, I guess that wouldn't be PC. All Rock and Metal fans should boycott MTV..what a concept

Maravilloso Biff Bifford!! q pedazo d version la del RIDE LIKE THE WIND!!

From: MAx Date: February 4, 2004 at 1:19
I can't Wait Anymore is one of the best AOR ballads ever. this coming from an otherwise great heavy metal machine.

From: K.K. Poland Date: February 15, 2004 at 5:27
yeah, I agree with MAX, I Can't Wait Anymore is one of the best AOR ballads ever, I love this song, great lyrics, catchy tunes, amazing harmonies, real incredible stuff here !!!!!!! Ride Like The Wind, S.O.S., Song For Emma, We Are Strong, fantastic AOR stuff, 10000/10

From: Mike P. - TX Date: April 5, 2004 at 2:02
I'm sorry, but I thought this one blew. I bought it 'cause all my prior Saxon titles were great. I was gravely disappointed. Remake a Christopher Cross song? Only good thing about this album is the cover. Avoid.

From: Christine Date: April 5, 2004 at 5:47
Actually, I kind of liked the cheesy video for "Ride Like The Wind"... so 80's!!!

From: Big Papa K Date: June 14, 2004 at 18:20
I know it is hard maintaning a site, but where is "Power And The Glory"? Not only is it the best album of this band, but all of their lesser known albums are included, and Saxon are a well known band, unlike a lot on the site. Regarding this album, the cover of "Ride Like The Wind" is surprisingly good, but the rest is weak hair metal. 3/10

weak hair metal?? Saxon - Destiny - Hair Metal????? I think this is hard rock with fantastic AOR, It's great album!

From: AOR freaky Date: July 24, 2004 at 14:18
Big Papa K : like K.K. Poland says : this hair metal ? ! Do you know what hair metal is, my friend ? ! Don't think so, certainly not this record ! O.K., it's not one of their more heavy records, which is metal, but this is still hardrock ! Think before you write something down. By the way, Saxon is a great act !!!

From: Big Papa K Date: July 24, 2004 at 18:58
Maybe you guys are right, this ir more hard rock than hair metal but it does have touches of hair metal in the recording. Nevertheless, this is a weak album by a good band.

From: Geoff Date: September 1, 2004 at 23:32
I am still taken by the song 'Can't wait anymore' and searched this CD down for that track alone. Beautiful song, and I really like 'Song for Emma' too. 'SOS' and 'Ride like the wind' are awesome too. Overall, I think this is a good hard rock disc. I like it alot!

From: vandervelde Date: September 16, 2004 at 21:00
I think in this album Saxon can't decide which road is the best to go. We have here some hair metal songs, some hard rock and some heavy metal...this hair metal cuts are simply the best...We Are Strong is hairmetal anthem, simply astonishing, check out keyboard here wow!!....I Can Wait No More is beautiful commercial sounding ballad....S.O.S. is very melodic heavy metal anthem....one or two songs are dissapointing but overall it's very good album 8.5/10

From: Max Date: September 27, 2004 at 22:13
I can't Wait Anymore is one of the best AOR ballads ever, and Saxon are not AOR,l although in this album they are a little, with this one and a couple of other tunes.

From: Max Date: September 27, 2004 at 22:15
Sorry, I knew I had said that before, but didn't remember. Anyway, let's not forget that Rider like the Wind is a Christopher Cross song, but Saxon make it their own here.

From: Propane Date: December 1, 2004 at 9:58
I hated Christofer Cross!!!(don't get me started) When I heard Saxon's version of 'Ride like the wind' I thought,"In your face"! I don't normally care for hard rock re-hashes of other peoples' songs but this one works, because the originator didn't do it right so someone had to. Rock on dudes, this one shines. 10/10.

From: Kim HP Date: February 5, 2005 at 12:38
This is a really good album if you like anthemic hard rock. More commercial than their earlier releases, but just as good; if even better, IMO. "Ride Like the Wind", "Song For Emma" and "S.O.S" are standout tracks, but you can play this from start to finish without any problems.

From: PAUL Date: September 17, 2005 at 13:52
I can't understand why when some HEAVY METAL/HARD ROCK bands use keyboards, softer rythm section and overall light sound, many people believe that they forgot their past, their old fans and released an album only for billboard.WRONG!For example many metalheads don't like "innocence is no excuse" or "destiny" cause are more commercial than their previous releases. For me,that's the reason why SAXON is a big name. They always offered good HEAVY METAL and HARD ROCK(with some AOR elements)albums.

From: PAUL Date: September 17, 2005 at 13:59
Also never released an average album,even today.Some similar cases are:JUDAS PRIEST-TURBO,IRON MAIDEN-SOMEWHERE IN TIME,DIO-SACRED HEART,LOUDNESS-HARRICANE EYES,Y.MALMSTEEN-ODYSSEY and some others...

From: Metal T Date: March 14, 2006 at 8:51
Saxon are an exceptional band, but "Destiny" was absolutely pathetic. When i first heard this thing i thought i had just tuned to some lame ass pop radio station.I have no problem with "Innocence Is No Excuse" it was more commerical sounding, but it at least had some decent stuff on it."Ride Like The Wind" etc ???? C'mon they tried to break the american market and failed.

From: poproxx2007 Date: March 28, 2006 at 16:12
how can anybody hate this??? I cant wait anymore, song for emma, we are strong are excellent songs!! This is great because of the keys and melodic arrangements. Biff's vocals are cleaner than ever! A must have!! Essential! 9/10

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: April 2, 2007 at 13:24

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: April 2, 2007 at 13:28

From: rick kerch vzla Date: April 8, 2007 at 12:08
...no comparto.

From: lalo r.o.c.k. Date: May 22, 2008 at 23:58

After the 'Rock The Nations' debacle, I was worried that it was the end, but thankfully, they pulled out all the stops on this one & whilst producing the most commercial Saxon album ever,it is one I regard very highly in their catologue. Back is the standard of songwriting you expect, although in come the keyboards & production gloss you don't. The most commercial tracks on here, namely 'Ride Like The Wind',the full on AOR Of 'I Can't Wait' & 'Song For Emma' work surprisingly well, but they are balanced out with some slightly tougher material of which 'Jericho Siren' & 'S.O.S' are both fine tracks. 'Destiny' didn't crack them in the US, which is strange, as this is a great melodic rock disc, & one that is much better than people say & some of the dross that was being peddled around at the time. Saying that,as a life long fan of the band, I am really glad that, with the turn of the decade, it saw the band rethink & return to more metal of old on the excellent 'Solid Ball Of Rock ' album.

From: petermexico Date: June 9, 2009 at 20:56
This is a great Saxon work, more comercial but still good!

From: shoemaker Date: October 14, 2009 at 12:00
SAXON goes AOR. Brilliant! Red Alert is the only heavy metal song on this and in my opinion the worst on this album. But in those days they shocked their fans, like KROKUS did with "Change of adress".

From: george_the_jack Date: October 14, 2009 at 13:03
Great album.I love Saxon and I always loved 'em.Don't care if it's an AOR album and it is indeed. What we have here, is briliant radio oriented rock anthems and one of the greatest AOR ballads ever emerged from the genre! 'I can't wait anymore'....95/10

From: hair metal again Date: April 3, 2011 at 10:49
magnificent release by the mighty SAXON!it has great sound, hard rock power and many great tunes.my favs are "cant wait anymore","we are strong"," song for emma" and "ride like the wind".really dont know why Biff says it isnt one of his fav releases and i dont care !i think i know better when i say that DESTINY is essential for a SAXON fan

From: edwithmj Date: September 12, 2011 at 18:15
A very 80s sounding release and by that I mean this sounds very hard rock as opposed to their classic heavy metal sound. It's certainly not a bad thing and songs like Ride Like The Wind, S.O.S. and We Are Strong have instant appeal. A decent release.

From: DonDefo Date: September 30, 2011 at 7:32
Definitely AOR album!! Yeah

From: rick kerch vzla Date: October 20, 2011 at 22:02
I wrote a comment in spanish way back in 2007 and well now is time to write it in english...the only time i have seen Saxon live in my life was during the Tour of this album Destiny(Hammersmith Odeon-support act,if my memory doesn't fail, was a band named Kooga)and what can i tell you...the concert blew my mind away!!!...even though this album according to some experts is one of the most commercial works the band have ever done, surely still has great rocking tracks but with the spark of "american FM radio" sticker on it...talking about the songs we have here excellent ones such as "Ride Like The Wind","I Can't Wait Anymore"(my all time fave off this album),"S.O.S.","For Whom The Bells Tolls","We Are Strong","Jericho Siren" & "Red Alert"(AORish)...for die hard of the bands probably a not so outstanding album,as for me goes...is a blast!!!...recommended...90/100

better late than never!receive this cd today (reissue with 6 bonus tracks 3 live).wow what a great surprise.on this record saxon have a very commercial approach.it s excellent.love this band from their start to forever free.after it s too metal for me not enough melodic.destiny is a killer album.a high class melodic hard rock record.the 6 bonus tracks are excellents with a perfect sound.i ve seen saxon 3 times in lyon (transbordeur).the first time they plays only metal it was boring.the second time it was for their 20 th anniversarry (doro in guest).it was fantastic they plays all their hits from the good period.the 3 th time it was a mix between old songs and new songs. a very great concert.don t miss destiny buy it!!!!!!
