No comments yet?!? A great, great debut from one of the best bands ever! Just listen to Never Surrender or Play It Loud! And the next albums keep up the pace!

From: Gar Date: August 20, 2003 at 13:19
Actually, this wasn't their debut. I believe it was their 3rd album. And a good one at that, too. Favorite track is "Princess of the Night". Great stuff!

This was Saxon's 4th album after The Self titled debut, Wheels Of Steel & Strong Arm Of The Law.

From: visitor Date: August 22, 2003 at 9:46
Oops, I didn´t know that... Were the first three all full size albums or shorter ones like ep´s? Or why did they have the same songs on the following album? Well, I like this anyway.

The first three Saxon albums were all full length. If you are new to Saxon then the 'Wheels Of Steel' album is classic and still their best release to this day . 'Strong Arm Of The Law'& the'S/T' are pretty good aswell.

a classic in every sense of the word. Simply one of the finest albums to come out of the NWOBHM movement. "Denim & Leather" is an anthem to metalheads everywhere.

I think I am going to have to go home and blast this one tonight. The title cut is just unstoppable, foot-stomping, shout-it-out metal! 'Princess..' is incredible, the song that first brought me to Saxon. Never Surrender is great, Midnight Rider, etc. Now I have most of their stuff, which means I am still missing about 10 albums! (LOL). Saxon rules. Crank it LOUD, it deserves that honor.

Kick-Ass Album!--"Denim And Leather" brought us all together"---Right ? He,He,He ...

Saxon is a band who wield axes and take no prisoners. This album is no exception either, having etched it's place into the world of metaldom, certainly not to be forgotten. 10/10.

Denim & Leather is a call to arms for metalheads worldwide. This CD is a classic! Saxon were at the top of their game here. "Princess of the Night" is one of their best songs ever. "Denim & Leather" is an anthem to leather clad, concert t-shirt wearing, metalheads everywhere. Sadly heavy metal is being redifined by the current crop of crap, while the guys who actually spawned the genre, like Saxon and Priest are being re-labeled as hard rock. What a crock! www.nolifetilmetal.com/saxon.htm

Scott, you hit the nail right on the fuckin head..Amen brotha. This release kicks ass....Metal 4 ever!!!!!!!

From: swriter Date: August 10, 2005 at 21:07
if I have to pick one Saxon, this would be it, one of the early bands responsible for the metal explosion, these guys were out in the mid 70's along with Scorps, and r very underrated in my opinion, and still playing today!!!! I would go for the first 5 Saxon, my favs on this are Princess, Band, Fire, and Denim, what a great one, then get Wheels and Power !!!

From: meradona Date: August 20, 2005 at 4:54

hehehe now my eye falls down on this as it was the 1st approach to heavy metal on 1981...it could be nostalgic thinking but this one is eternal as you keep on listening and always love it! 9,5/10

Album 4 & still going strong,'Denim & Leather' was released the following year to 'Wheels Of Steel' & the 'Strong Arm Of The Law' albums, making that 3 real quality albums within virtually a year of each other. Of the 3, I would say that this is the slightly weaker of them, but there are still loads of quality songs on here and I think that this was the last really virtually filler free Saxon album for many years to come. The most famous track on here would have to be the excellent 'And The Bands Played On', written about the first 'Monsters Of Rock' gig back in 1980, of which they were famously part of the line up. Other choice tracks include 'Princess Of The Night' & 'Never Surrender, all of which, unbelievably today, made the top 40 over here in the UK,their last songs ever to do so, ending the most successful couple of years for the band to this day. 'Play It Loud' isn't a great song to be honest, and this for me was the first sign of cracks appearing in the songwriting department.

IMO,the best Saxon album, and an essential in every heavy metal collection. All songs are absolute classic heavy metal anthems. My faves are "Princess Of The Night", "Midnight Rider" "And the Bands Played On" & "Never Surrender".
