EUROPE establishes their heavy metal sound in this second album.Maybe that's their most complete recording as it has everything. From piano- and acoustic-ballads,hard- and heavy-rockers to instrumental("Aphasia") and one eventually thrash-like cut("Scream Of Anger").Apart from these however the best song of the album ,for me, is the slow-rocker "Treated Bad Again".Music at its peak by EUROPE as after this, they changed to pop-metal tunes. One thing to point is Reno's drums which are simply great.

The best Europe album ever.

From: DRAGONFLY Date: December 12, 2001 at 9:05
The song SCREAM OF ANGER is worth buying this release alone. It rocks from track 1 to track 10.

Unicamente prefiero el final countdown al out of this world.

Great cd....Weird ,I always thought these guys were wussies...If you hated the proceeding cds, buy this one.

From: magicmandala Date: May 13, 2003 at 20:42
I just downloaded all the mp3s from kazaa and i'd have to say that there's a huge difference between the two first albums and The Final Countdown. I was somewhat shocked to hear the Song Scream of Anger never would you think that Europe had some hard rock/metal edge to them I always thought they where melodic rock. Was I ever wrong. I agree with Blitzkill on his comments because i was sure to hear The Final Countdown "wussiness" to them but this is a rollercoaster ride compared to that. Buy it..

From: Great Dane Date: May 13, 2003 at 21:07
Europe were a superb band, until they released The Final Countdown. That album ' killed' them. This is a fantastic album. Highly recomendable

From: kim Date: June 28, 2003 at 10:48
Mic Michaeli don't play keyboards on this album. Is JOEY!!! Close your eyes, listen "Dreamer" and fly! "Stormwind" forever!

From: RR-Finland Date: August 27, 2003 at 16:30
If you have heard only one track from Europe and that is final countdown, you might think that the rest is bullshit. You´re WRONG!! This one can make you say yourself Europe is good heavy band, whithout laughing yourself!

From: robert Date: September 1, 2003 at 9:39

From: pablo Date: September 20, 2003 at 11:19

From: AstonJac Date: January 8, 2004 at 23:27
Is a fantastic album, even Arch Enamy have recorded scream of anger find it on the net

From: holyroller Date: January 16, 2004 at 23:34
Europe, like Winger, will forever be one of the hard rock bands that were good enough bands, but whose image has tainted them to the point where people forget their music. Admittedly, we all got sick of listening to The Final Countdown. But this album stands up for me. I remember getting TFC in '88 (a little late, I know) and just happening upon this album on cassette in a $4.99 bin. Good investment. Years later I was able to find it on CD. Great Euro Metal.

From: Rene Date: April 4, 2004 at 14:43
In my opinion(and Joey Tempest agree), this is the best EUROPE album ever. Its just a cool and pure melodic metal album. This album and the first Europe album are my favorite but the other ones are not bad of course, just different.

From: Rycheage Date: April 4, 2004 at 20:08
'Wings Of Tomorrow' displays such potential in the metal area, that it's almost painful to imagine what Europe could have done with it if they had continued in a heavier vein. "Stormwind" is excellent melodic metal and "Dance The Night Away" reaches Gary Moore riff territory. This caps off Norum's breakout performance as one of the finest I've heard. They softened their approach later and as a result Norum left.

From: jack Date: May 24, 2004 at 6:12
If you are into dokken or winger, buy this album!!Pure rocking but little melodic sound!!

From: Jose Spain Date: June 11, 2004 at 15:57

From: Big Papa K Date: June 13, 2004 at 0:26
The sound of their future albums starts to show up here, but tracks like "Scream Of Anger" and "Stormwind" remind me of the debut. I like this version of "Open Your Heart" better than the remake on "Out Of This World" as well. 8/10

From: jack Date: July 20, 2004 at 3:23
Big Papa K-I agree. Scream of anger and storm wind is just like 7 doors hotel and in the future to come! And by the way, About open your heart,Whats the diference between the one here and the one on out of this world?

From: Big Papa K Date: July 21, 2004 at 0:14
The version of "Open Your Heart" is a little more raw sounding than the version from "Out Of This World".

From: jack Date: August 30, 2004 at 4:53
Hey,does anyone here beside me who think that this is europe's best album? Most people i know say the countdown album is the best. People who are more into the metal side like their first album more while people who like modern rock are more into the prisoners album. people who are more into aor or melodic rock like out of this world better.

From: run2u Date: August 30, 2004 at 12:55
Para mí,"Final...","Out Of This World"&"Prisoners..."son los grandes trabajos de Europe.

From: run2u Date: August 30, 2004 at 12:56

That is very cool.U are using the same comment for all the albums they made.Very clever indeed.Less work....cool....less work is not to write too....even better no?my respects fella.

From: Geoff Date: August 31, 2004 at 9:10
Unfortunately I only really liked 'Lyin' eyes' off this one. I like the song 'Open your heart' but prefer the remake, so I sold this CD. Criminal to some, but I just never felt like listening to it...

From: Hairspray Date: November 11, 2004 at 5:05
Maintaining their harder sound (funny how people are slagging off their harder edge on Start From the Dark). For me this fairs better than their debut. "Stormwind" "Scream of Anger" and "Dance the Night Away" are just great. I prefer the remake of "Open Your Heart", I feel they drew out the full potential of this classic song. Good work fellas

From: Metalhead66 Date: December 22, 2004 at 12:58
Europe were never my Fav,but this one is Really Good. The band always seem a little fluffy, boy was I wrong. They are true Players( John Norum is very under-rated).Nice suprise! That is one Great thing about this website,You can Look at others Opinions and get some insight to something new.9/10

From: Geoff Date: February 28, 2005 at 21:41
Already commented on this disc, and I don't like this or the debut, but as Hairspray says, it's funny to see people slagging off the 'Start in the dark' disc, when in essence it is the closest thing to sounding like the "true" Europe that they have done since this CD. May not be for everyone, but people should remember Europe were a much heavier hard rock band before the commercial side of the late 80's early 90's, and it's where they stem from.

From: TIM (2) Date: March 1, 2005 at 2:42
This bears ABSOLUTELY no resemblance to "Start..." whatsoever. Okay so they're both heavy on the guitar, but that's where the similarity ends. This album has song structures and actual hard rock choruses - instead of just the song-title repeated 8 times. Also the guitar sounds are a million miles apart, despite being the same musician. Norum's latest appaling solo effort shows who had the biggest influence in Europe circa 2005.

From: Geoff Date: March 1, 2005 at 5:16
I agree that it is John Norum and he alone who fucks up the latest Europe album (as I said on that page), and I am not saying this is identical to the new disc, but I think the newest disc is closer to this than the keyboard driven 'Final Countdown' or highly melodic gems like 'Out of this world' and 'Prisoners in paradise'. The new disc has hard rock song structures and hard rock choruses and is purely fucked up by Norum, not an inability to still write good hard rock songs.

From: GLAM FAN Date: April 18, 2005 at 6:44
Definitely my favourite europe album! With songs like stormwind, dance the night away, the title track and of course scream of anger(europe's best song),this album is head and shoulder above their next 2 release. I never really like john norum(never forgiven him for leaving the band) but i gotta admit he is a fantastic guitarist. He can play fast/speedy tempo guitar better than most guitarist. A good album that stands somewhere between dokken's breaking the chain or ratt's invasion of your privacy

From: GLAM FAN Date: April 18, 2005 at 6:45
Enough said! Just buy this album if you love european metal. ratings:8/10

From: Mediaab Date: December 7, 2005 at 9:26
With songs like Dreamer, Scream of anger, Stormwind and of course Open your heart, this album is a true winner!! Joey Tempest has later said that this is his favourite Europe album, even though he likes them all. This album is both quite heavy in places, yet very melodic. Great album!!

After the cold steel of the brilliant debut,EUROPE change direction and go for a clunking take on early 80`s SCORPION`s style hard rock with a bass heavy production and a lumpen drum sound all but killing this release.Maybe this was part of the master plan towards global domination and truck loads of money but it leaves me cold and disappointed after the elegance and sophistication of the self titled debut.6/10

From: Nightrain Date: August 15, 2007 at 2:45
Just listened again this morning after all this years, and found that this CD is pretty good. "Stormwind" and "Scream of Anger" are one hell of a heavy metal track, EUROPE is really heavy back then with Norum. "Open Your Heart" and "Dreamer" are also good ballads, "Lyin Eyes" is bloody fantastic, the rest are quite OK with a couple fillers, not really essential but very nice album.

From: VICE Date: October 14, 2007 at 14:17
My favourite album by the boys! Tony Reno's a underated drummer. He beats the shit out of the drums! Too sad he didn't show up too much anywhere else after Europe... John Norum & Joey Tempest are fabulous too while John Levén sounds like usual, steady as a rock on the bass guitar.

From: Dante Date: September 14, 2008 at 19:10
Definitely their best album. All songs are very good and I agree that it has a Scorpions feel to it. Unfortunately, after this one, keyboards and big bucks started to kick in and the records started to lose quality. It's a shame as this was my entrance in the metal world.

From: edwithmj Date: February 19, 2010 at 5:55
I got this free as someone was chucking it out and I must say it's better than the debut. The version of Open Your Heart is better than the remake in my opinion although the remake is still good. Stormwind and Wasted Time are the best songs here.

From: MikeTuinstra Date: November 27, 2010 at 18:06
Good stuff, some classic material here. Most of TFC might have less Metal speed, but it's definitely quality. It's not to be compared to the throwaway products the sham industry sells in the form of the Biebers and Soulja Boys. While I feel the first two albums are building up to that level of quality, this is indeed great for the faster tempoed harder edge that would return with PIP. Hey, I dig it all. A classic for that.

From: pibe Date: March 31, 2013 at 4:38

From: Metal Fox Date: September 25, 2016 at 2:43
This whole album smokes! Not a bad track on this one at all. This is Europe at their hardest and most heaviest. Highlights on here are "Scream of Anger", "Treated Bad Again", "Wasted Time", "Lyin' Eyes" and even "Aphasia" (the instrumental) is phenomenal. If you're a new fan of Europe, this is a pretty good album to start with. I'll give it a 100/100 because every song on here is AWESOME!

From: titothetitan Date: October 31, 2017 at 14:19
The production is better than the debut, but the songs aren't as good. Only the two ballads caught my attention, one was re-recorded for their 4th album. Very average imho.
