My favorite Dokken album. Just Got Lucky, Heartless Heart, Into The Fire, and Alone Again are awsome!!! George Lynch is superb!!!

This album is heavier and better than 'Breaking the chains'. I think that 'Tooth and nail' has more quality and its songs are stronger. It´s easy to realize the evolution of the Dokken´s music in comparison with 'Breaking the chains' because 'Tooth and nail' has more style. I´m from South América.

Probably one of the best albums from the Lynch era. It combines melodic and heavy elements perfectly; few other bands from the 80's could match it. There are very few songs that I don't like from this album, though 'Heartless Heart' and 'Bullets To Spare' are on the cheesy side. (10 out of 10)

An absolutely awesome CD from start to finish, I still enjoy it immensely after all these years! Heartless Heart would have been better if George had put a guitar solo in it but you really can't fault this one, it definitely stands the test of time!

Absolutely amazing album! I have been playing guitar since the age of 7 and if I could ever be 10% as good as George Lynch I would be a rock godess! DOKKEN is a very talented band with excellent songs. Im looking foward to collecting the rest of their albums.

Besides the GAY cover on the band's latter album ('Under Lock & Key'), it was a HUUUUGE improvement over 'Tooth & Nail' as cool as it is with George's bitchin' riffs and solos BEFORE he sold out and fucked over Dokken fans in the 90s. He is a total poser in my book, but he is a poser that possesses great talent. Whether he chooses to use it or not is his decision and from what I can tell so far, he chooses NOT to.

Pretty good album, with the classic ballad 9 and strong rockers 2 & 10. Some of the songs flow a bit awkwardly.

I have to agree Desslar, some did flow awkwardly. It's not a perfect album but the songs they did get right made up for it.

Although not being impressive as their latter two albums, it can be said that this album saves the day. It includes Dokken's first hit songs as 'Just Got Lucky' or 'Alone Again' which are also my favourites here. A typical the then flourishing melodic-rock sound of 80s. Dokken got renown with this album but for me their real shots came with 'Under Lock and Key' and 'Back For The Attack'. If you're not a pure Dokken fan or collector, those two albums will be enough for you.

I always was a big Dokken fan, and in the eighties they were one of my faves. But if I listen now, I have to say this is nothing special at all. The songs are not catchy enough and Don's voice is not the strongest. The only thing that still stands is the outstanding performance of George, one of the best guitarists ever ! But the record has aged !

Top-notch 80's metal! Songs like 'Just Got Lucky', 'Into the Fire' and the title track are just awesome... 'Alone Again' is also a very good power ballad, one of the best I've heard. Not every song is great, but this is still a very solid album. Too bad they don't do music like this anymore.

Dokken's second best release by just a hair; 'Back For the Attack' ranks just slightly better in my opinion. This disc features some of the most memorable melodic metal songs in history 'Into the Fire', and 'Just Got Lucky',not to mention a power ballad 'Alone Again' that still gets significant airplay on the weekly retro shows. Not a bad song here. Another 10/10!

I will have to admit, this was the the album that first turned me into a Dokken fan. The songs on here were a little cheesey, but the guitar work by Lynch was great. The band definetly progressed after this release, but I can still get into it on occasion. My favorite tracks on here are..Just Got Lucky, Into The Fire, and Alone Again..which had a really cool video back in the day. I give it a 7/10.

I think I still prefer 'Back For The Attack' over this album, but for me it was my first Dokken album so it holds a special place in my heart. 'When Heaven Comes Down' and 'Turn On The Action' were some of the heaviest songs Dokken ever did. And how can you argue with 'Alone Again?' Power ballad perfection!

great album, KEEP IT ROCKIN' turn it up loud!!!!!! I'm 22 and I wish rock music was popular like it was in the 80's, I'm so tired of all this rap and R&B stuff. It's time for a change. 80's Rock, some 90's rock, and todays rock ALL THE TIME...ROCK AND ROLL!!!! I really like the attitude of many of the 80's bands, sex, girls, beer of every sort, partys,an escape from the sorrows of the world. These days we need more of that.

I am a big fan of cinderella but not dokken. However, after listening to the this album, i think its not bad. Favourite song is into the fire, especially the chorus part where they sang 'into the fire(then guitar sound) te.te.te.te.te.te.....'. ALONE AGAIN is a perfectly employed ballad that is almost in the mould of NOBODY's FOOL in the night songs album by the great cinderella. HOWEVER, its not as empowering and devastating like nobody's fool. NO BALLAD IN THAT ERA(MID 80'S)IS!!!RATING:7.9/10

From: jack |

And i think tooth & nail(the song) is a bit similar to Ram it down and hard as iron by judas priest. THE CHORUS IS MORE A LIKE RAM IT DOWN WHILE THE FRONT PART IS MORE SIMILAR TO HARD AS IRON. THATS WHY I THINK TOOTH&NAIL IS A COOL AND GREAT SONGS. WONDER IF ROB HALFORD HAS HEARD THIS SON OR NOT?P.S I AM NOT SAYING JP COPY THIS SONG CAUSE THEY DON'T NEED TO..GREAT BAND DON'T!

Well I have to say I don't listen to this much anymore, but it's a pretty good record, when you compare it to the newer releases, like dysfunctional and shadowlife. I like without warning, and don't close your eyes. I would recomended it, except any self-respecting true dokken fan already owns it.

To Jake,no disrespect but i think the 90's rock sucks!Well, the one from the early 90's is good but from 1994 t0 1999,rock sucks:nirvana, stone temple pilot, green day, incubus, oasis, matchbox 20,limp bizkit,korn...uughhh!!!I'LL prefer the one from the 80'sokken,motley crue,cinderella,gun'n'roses,ratt,W.a.S.p and even poison and white lion to them any time and any place. Anyway, this album is one of the best melodic/heavy metal album,if not the best in the 80's.period!!

This album is not their best but it's not bad either. When they rock ('Just Got Lucky' and 'Into The Fire' to name 2), they rock. When they want to slow it down ('Alone Again') they do it with class. This is a good album but not what they were capable of.

Vast improvement over the debut. The songs sound a lot more developed, such as 'Just Got Lucky' and 'Alone Again'. 'Tooth and Nail' is a very good attempt at somewhat of a speed metal song. The filler tracks are also pretty adequate. 8/10
|
From: jack |
Date: August 11, 2004 at 6:35 |
Tooth and nail-speed metal? What would that make metallica's ride the lightning or medadeth's rattlehead the? More of a heavymetal mode like judas priest's ram it down. Speed/thrash metal is a lot more heavier and brutallic than that.
|
From: jack |
Date: August 30, 2004 at 4:29 |
Sorry, come to think of it,tooth and nail does resemblence some of the speed metal sounding(compare them to anthrax's fistful of metal album's songs like panic, death rider or soldier of metal). the bass and the drum is so quick and non stop throughout the song. The diferrence is those element are not there during the solo playing. I think this is the only dokken's song that is thrash metal like. wish they would play more like that!

Albums like this one really make you miss them these days. It's only when you really sit down and listen to the tracks you realise just how good this one is. 'Just got lucky' and 'Into the fire' are absolute gems of melodic hard rock, 'Alone again' is a great ballad, but tracks like 'Heartless heart' and 'Don't close your eyes' are so bloody good too! Great album! A classic for sure.

Dokken seemed to find their sound on this record, a more 'hair metal' effort than the debut for sure, but heavy and well crafted. Don's voice soars, George's guitar rumbles and screams and the choruses forge themselves into memorable melodies with the help of Jeff's backing vocals and a tight production. Probably the second best album of the Lynch era (see Back For the Attack for #1), Tooth and Nail bites and claws like nothing before it. A must have for anyone who likes American melodic metal.

Great cd. Under lock and key is also very good. I'd give these two 90/100, very good stuff. Production on this one is not quite as strong (drums sound dated). Good album, sure, but I can't understand why lots of people think this is Dokken's best album - in my book "Back for the attach" is the very best Dokken cd ever. By far. BFTA has the best songs (and many), is more consistent, has their best vocal and instrumental performance and top notch production. But all their 80s albums are good!

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT, SUPERB, AMAZING, FOR ME IS ONE OF THE MOST APPRECIATED AND LOVED MASTERPIECES OF ALL TIMES MUSIC. este disco no es normal, es mas q una obra maestra es algo fuera de serie.

DOKKEN4EVER IN MY HEART!

Way long overdue for a comment on this masterpiece...George caught fire on this one-he just ripped it up everywhere on here and Don was dealing big time! 'Tooth & Nail' and 'When Heaven Comes Down' were straight up metal songs. As far as 'Alone Again' goes if Dokken didn't invent the hardrock/metal ballad, they sure as hell perfected it-always a great f'n tune.Well crafted superb songs, solos and vox and don't forget about that horribly underrated rhythm section-indeed the back bone of any band.Classic...
