There's only one way to say it. Don's voice has further fallen and it's not getting up. I listened to this album several times and I just felt sad. Remembering back in the 80s as a kid getting excited when a new Dokken album hit the record stores. 11 years ago I gave a semi positive review for Broken Bones (2012) as Don had the man behind the curtain (Mark Boals) helping out his voice. Don's vox has deteriorated so much in the last decade that it can't be masked anymore. All the tracks tempo cater to Don's limitations. Don is 70 with health problems, including a paralyzed right arm post surgery. Original drummer Mick Brown is retired. IMO this should have been released as a Don Dokken solo album, to not degrade the Dokken legacy. The singer said in 2023. "If I can't sing the way they remember me, then just don't come to the show. I've got no problem with that." Message received loud and clear Don, as I haven't been to a Dokken concert since the 90s with the original line-up.

You know what, this isn't as bad as I was expecting. Yes, Don can't hit any upper range notes but that's not what this is about at 70. Let that sink in......70! Don, actually, does a pretty remarkable job and the songs are really good thanks to Jon Levin. Very 80's feel with good / very good production minus drums. Vocal harmonies are fantastic with Mark Boals. Overall, I'm very happy with this last memory and will take it for what it is and not for what it is not. 85 / 100

Man, I dunno stallion, yea , his vox are autotuned, and he can’t sing like he cou, but the song writing is strong and Jon leven smokes in guitar, and to me that’s all that matters!!

https://noisecreep.com/ixp/366/p/don-dokken-responds-vocal-criticism/ Don gives a candid interview about his voice and dishes some funny dirt on Lynch jacked on steroids challenging him to a fight. Don mentions Ronnie James Dio, and Glenn Hughes who sang great in their 60s. I would add Dave Meniketti of Y&T to that list.Of course Don doesn't mention with a cigarette dangling in his mouth in the interview how smoking can drastically affect a singers voice. Of course there is a generic factor but IMO if a singer can't remotely come close to delivering a vocal performance, compared to their prime they shouldn't be up there. Don gives a tour of his house in NM. and repeatedly says he doesn't need the money. With his paralyzed hand and leg he says this is the last record. But he will keep touring until he gets a sign its time to quit.

Some guys will just do the lemmy thing and basically die on stage!! Sad!!

I'm reminded of a recent interview with Kelly Hansen, talking about Foreigner's (supposed) farewell tour. He's a decade younger than Don, yet he says, "Every year, I have to give up more and more to be able to sing the way I need to." Contrast this with Don, who said prior to Broken Bones that a throat doctor who specializes in working with singers told him he had to quit smoking, but that he, Don, just plain didn't want to. It struck me then that he framed it as not wanting to quit, rather than not being able to, even to protect his instrument.

This one was a 'grower'.Really liked the first 2 songs that dropped pre release :'Fugitive' and 'Gypsy'.Spun it a couple times after getting the disc and it just felt lackluster and thought production was lacking, then came back to the record and it really took hold. For what Don no longer has range/power wise to his credit he still has alot of character/feel in the voice and can still pull off some of his trademark emotive singing (I Remember)..(I'll Never Give Up)...(Just Like A Rose)...People can make alot of criticisms of Don and some are justified but IMO Don pulled off a pretty decent record here all things considered.
